“Don’t see any bite marks.” The man stated.

Jermaine smiled back at the man and replied. “I cut it off so that I wouldn’t turn.”

“What the hell did you use to cut it off?”

  “A circular saw.” Jermaine replied.

“You let one of these folks cut your arm off with a circular saw?” The man asked shocked.

“No, not one of them. I cut it off.” Jermaine replied stressing the I.

Finishing his inspection, and only pausing briefly by Virginia and the dogs, the man turned to the others. “They can pass. Someone take the gentleman on the end to see Doctor Tybor and let him see if he can clean up that mess he did to himself.” Turning back around with a big smile he announced. “Welcome to the town of Nusha, you will all be safe here for as long as you chose to stay. Keep your weapons if you choose too, if you can fight, we can sure use your help either as watchers on the wall or helping reclaim sections of where people coming in like yourself can take up a house and live.” Turning back toward the bus blocking the road he ordered. “Captain of the guard, kindly let these good folks in and direct them to the welcome center for orientation.”

“Yes sir, Major! Open the gate.” Replied the Captain.

“Opening the gate.” Another voice yelled as the bus came to life with a puff of black smoke. It slowly rolled backward, opening the road.

Charlie drove the RV through the gate slow so that they could all take in the town. If there were any signs of trouble, he wanted to be able to find a way back out. The armed man in front of them led the way, walking down the middle of the street, then directed Charlie to turn right on a side street. Coming up to the window he said. “If you go down about two blocks you will see the old Post office, that is now the welcome center for new arrivals. You will probably all be there for an hour or maybe two, depends on if Agnes is the one giving the talk or MaryAnn. Agnes is quick while MaryAnn will cover every possible thing like the Creator himself was passing it on to you. Just smile as she talks knowing that you only have to go through it once.” He said laughing. “After that, one of them will give you a map that will take you back up here to Main Street. From here you will head South until you see Belmont Street, you turn left there, and you will find the houses they will give you to pick from. They may still be a mess, just to warn you ahead of time but they will be zombie free.”

Charlie nodded his head that he understood when the man added. “Just so you know, we have a gal here that has a son just like the boy you have with ya. They might like to meet each other sometime.”

“Thanks Sir, I am sure that Todd would love that.” Charlie replied as he pressed the gas pedal making the turn.

“Looks like we have found a home.” Zoe said smiling. “Wish my Albert could have seen this day.”

“Doc would have been in heaven being able to work with other Doctors.” Tressa added.

“He would have been in heaven just seeing this place.” Charlie added. “This is what he thought Rivers Crossing would turn into.”

Charlie pulled up in front of the Post office and turned the motor off.

“Looks like it is time for us to start our new lives.” Jermaine said as he climbed out of the RV.

Charlie and Virginia were the last to leave the RV. Sitting there, watching children play along the street and in the yards, was just a little too much for him to take in all at once.

“You know eventually I will go find my sister. Or at the very least try to find her.” Virginia stated as she moved up to the passenger seat.

“I don’t even know where to begin looking.” Charlie said. “By the time we could get back to that place where the highways intersected the snow will be melted.”

“Maybe, but then again I think we know where she is going.” Virginia replied. “If I know Lori, she will go home for a while. Especially now that she doesn’t think anything can happen to her. Not like she can get infected again.”

“Let’s just lay up here for some time and let both you and Jermaine heal. We can use this place as a home base when we go out and look for Lori. Might be nice knowing that we have a place to come back to.” Charlie said. “If we do that that, I think we have a better chance of surviving out there than you do by yourself with the dogs.”

“As long as we don’t forget and that is the plan.” Virginia replied.
