  Denis was sure that the moment Amy would find out that he loved her, she would get scared and run away. If there was one thing Denis feared was loneliness. He could not imagine his life without Amy. He was pleased to have her there whenever he needed to talk to someone. She was the person who knew almost all his secrets. In an attempt to make her jealous, he also described his affairs with various women. Unfortunately, instead of showing any signs of jealousy, Amy was just amused.

  His parents died fighting some other shapeshifters. Ever since that horrible day, Denis swore to find the shifters responsible and make them pay. Secretly Amy hoped that he would never find them. She was scared that he could get killed too. Denis was a great fighter and he was one of the strongest shifters. Even so, fighting against a group of shifters was dangerous.

  One day, Amy found out by mistake who the shifters that killed his parents were. She heard about it in her neighborhood and she didn’t know what to do with that important information. The right thing to do was to tell Denis about it and let him decide what he was going to do. However, if she told him, it could put his life in danger. By now she knew Denis well enough to guess what he would do. He would hurry to kill those shifters without any help. He would let his feelings take over him and this would lead to wrong and dangerous decisions.

  She did not tell him anything and she tried to convince herself that she was doing the right thing. It was for his own protection. As time went on, she almost forgot all about it and things got back to normal. Unfortunately, someone asked him one day if she told him about it. It was the same shifter that gave her the information. When he heard about it, he could not believe that she could betray him that way. In his mind, she was protecting the shifters who murdered his parents. This was something could never forgive.

  He just stormed into her house without knocking and started to scream at her. She didn’t even have a chance to defend herself. After all what could she say? He knew well enough that she was scared for his safety. He knew how much she cared about him. At that moment though, all he could see was her betrayal. He told her that he never want to see her again.

  Amy hoped that after he cooled off, he was going to call her again and things could get back to normal. A week later, when she still didn’t hear from him, she tried to call him. All she could hear was the machine saying that the number was no longer in use. At that moment, she realized that he was serious about getting her out of his life. This broke her heart but more than anything, she was scared that something bad happened to him. Amy decided to find him and make sure he didn’t start a dangerous fight with the shifters that murdered his parents. She started to ask around. Most shifters knew her and they liked her because unlike other humans, she didn’t avoid them and she was nice to them.

  Denis spent most of his time alone or with Amy. He had no idea just how loved he was in the shifter community. When Amy asked for their help, she got an impressive number of volunteers willing to help her find Denis. That was not all they were ready to do. They also promised to help Denis fight and get his revenge.

  They started looking for him and they found him just in time. He was outside the building where the shifters he was looking for were living. He had some weapons with him and he was about to attack on his own. Just when he did it, he was surrounded by all the shifters that were in that building. Even with his supernatural powers, he was outnumbered and it would had been impossible to get out of there alive. In a strange way, he didn’t care about dying anymore. He lost his parents and the one person he loved. Nothing else mattered for him.

  The shifters that Amy brought saved him just in time and they killed all the rival shifters. Denis was grateful and he was really glad to see Amy again. The shifters who ruined his life by killing his parents were dead now too. He thanked everybody and then left. He was too confused and emotional to talk to Amy. He knew that he couldn’t stay mad at her forever. Even if she hadn’t saved him, he still knew that what she did was because she cared about him. She hated violence and even so, she just gathered a small army of shifters and she saved him.

  When Amy thought that Denis was in danger, she realized that what she felt for him was more than just friendship. When he disappeared from her life for an entire week, she knew that she was deeply in love. She could not believe why it took her so long to realize that she loved Denis. It was like she had a veil over her eyes and just now she could see clearly. She could also understand that he loved her too. All those looks he gave her, the hugs and kisses on the forehead, were more than just friendly gestures. Amy was mad at herself for taking so long to realize it.

  Denis finally got back in touch with her and he wanted to see her. Amy was really excited about it because it was her chance to tell him that she loved him too. It was like a new beginning for both of them. The beginning of an amazing love story. She waited for them at they place. This was on a bench in a park. There were almost no people there and this is why they both loved it.

  Amy could not stand still because she was very excited and nervous. When she saw him coming, she could see that he was not alone. A beautiful woman was holding his hand. When they got closer, she could see that she was human just like she was. He obviously seduced her and this was a normal thing for him. She always knew that he was a player. What she didn’t understand was why he brought her at their meeting. It was supposed to be just the two of them. With that woman there, she couldn’t tell him that she loved him. When he introduced the girl as his girlfriend, she was jealous for the first time.

  It was the first time he called any of those women a “girlfriend”. The fact that he showed up with her meant that he was serious about her too. Amy tried to talk with him but she didn’t dare to mention anything important. It was too late…

  Denis was not in love with that new woman he had in his life. He only referred at her as girlfriend because he was hoping to get Amy out of his heart. He thought that she would never look at him the way he wanted. Denis didn’t dare to hope that she could love him.

  Since they were trying to be friends again, Amy visited him often and they had diner together like they used too. After eating they usually liked to watch a movie and she would often fall asleep on his couch. This was exactly what happened one night. While she was asleep, he couldn’t help himself and he just watched her. Hoping she wouldn’t wake up, he gave her a soft kiss on the lips. That was when she opened her eyes and to his surprised, she wrapped her hands around his head and pulled him closer. He was now above her and they were kissing like there was no tomorrow.

  They made love and the next morning Amy confessed to him that she loved him. She also told him that she understands if the previous night was just a mistake and that they could go back to being just friends. He listened to her without saying a word. He had a big smile on his face. When she asked him what was so funny, he told her that he loved her more than he could say in words. He also told Amy that he didn’t are about the new girl and that he was going to break up with her that afternoon.

  They had a new life ahead of them and they were happier than ever. Denis and Amy knew that they still had a lot of problems to face together. They had the shifters that saved his life as friends now but humans were still against a marriage between a human and a shifter. Amy didn’t care about that. She felt sorry for the people who could not see the good and the beauty in shifters.

  He wanted to support Amy and to start a family together. For that he was in desperate need of a job and he knew this was almost impossible to obtain as a shifter. Luckily, his parents left him some money and he could start a business. Now he didn’t need to depend on any human or shifter. A couple of months after the wedding, Amy gave Denis the great news. She was expecting their first baby. He took her into his arms and started to cry of happiness.

  Never too late

  The room is getting dark and I can hear my own heart beating faster and faster. I look at the watch hanging on the wall. He is alrea
dy two hours late. He should have been here by now or at least called. My mind goes to dark places trying to imagine what happened to him.

  First, I picture him dead on the street. A car accident maybe…This image brings tears to my eyes but it’s nothing compared to my other guess. The other image is with him making love to another woman.

  To my surprise, this last variant gets me even sadder than the first one. It also fills me with anger. At this point I could just kill him with my own hands. The result would be the same…

  One Month Earlier

  I have to meet my friend Clara at a coffee shop nearby. She is my best friend and my biggest rival at the same time. We’ve been friends ever since we were children and we’ve been competing with one another since then.

  Unfortunately for me, she always won. I was always jealous on her good looks and charming personality. Everybody loved Clara and I did too. However, I also hated her. The day she introduced me to her new boyfriend, my envy and hate reached a new high. He was everything I dreamt in a man.

  A tall, handsome man with blue eyes that could be easily confused with the sea or the sky. My knees got weak the first time he gave me a hug. It was just a goodbye friendly hug but for me it meant the world. I knew then that we belonged together.

  For the first time in my life I had to be better than her. I had to win…It was all or nothing because my life could never be the same after meeting the man of my life. I knew that I preferred to die than to lose him to her.

  I couldn’t let Clara know about my feelings for her boyfriend. She trusted me completely and she always asked for my opinion when it came to men. I made sure to make her believe that I really didn’t like Daniel.

  This was bad news for her because she was really close to me but at the same time she was starting to fall in love with her boyfriend.

  Clara really needed the two of us to be friends and she tried to get us together as often as she could. This is how I got to be present to almost most of their dates. I acted like I was doing it as a favor to her but in reality that was exactly what I wanted.

  I wanted to spend as much time as possible with Daniel even if it was in Clara’s presence. In my mind, I was having a date with him. Clara was just an annoying voice in the background.

  The only bad thing was the affection they showed in public. I made a big effort to stop myself from slapping her. The jealousy was clouding my judgement and I could not hide it.

  “What is wrong, honey?” Asked Clara.

  “Nothing, just a headache.” I lied.

  One day I had the brilliant idea to meet with Daniel by myself. Clara knew all about it. She agreed to let me meet him and work things out. It was her last attempt to make us like each other.

  Daniel had absolutely no problem with me but he hated to know that someone did not like him. He was a good looking guy with a charming personality and he was used to have everybody like him. I played my role very well and I made him believe that I could not stand him. He agreed to meet me at my house and talk about our problem.

  As soon as he arrived, he started talking. I wasn’t interested in having a conversation. I listened to him for a few minutes and pretended to be interested in what he was saying. To be honest, I only heard a few words. I was too fascinated by his sensual lips.

  I imagined how it would feel to have those lips all over my body. I think he was saying something about how much he would love for us to be friends. I excused myself and went to the bathroom. I got undressed and got back to the living room. When he saw me standing there, naked, he almost dropped his drink.

  “What are you doing??” He asked trying to find his words.

  Suddenly, he felt dizzy and had to sit down. What he didn’t know was that I mixed something special into his drink to make him fall asleep. As soon as he was asleep, I carried him to the bedroom.

  I am an athletic girl but I still had some difficulty carrying such a big man. After I finally placed him on my bed, I took his clothes off too and got under the sheets with him. Now all I had to do was to wait until the next morning. When he woke up he assumed of course that something happened between us.

  “I am so sorry…this was a big mistake. I think I drank too much. Please don’t tell Clara about this.” He said while trying to get dressed.

  “Don’t worry about it. I know it was just a moment of pleasure. There is no point in hurting Clara. She will never know about us. It will be our little secret.”

  He left in a hurry but it didn’t matter. I had all I wanted from him for now. While he was asleep, I made some photos of the two of us together. This was the proof I needed to make him do whatever I want.

  A few weeks went by and I let him believe that I forgot about our night together. Little did he know that I had a plan. One day I called him and I pretended to cry on the phone.

  “I don’t understand a word you are saying. I am coming over to your house. Try to calm down. I am sure that whatever it is, it has a solution.”

  When he arrived he found me holding a pregnancy test. I had tears on my face and he knew as soon as he saw me. I was pregnant with his child. Of course this was not true at all. We just slept next to each other and nothing ever happened between us. However, because of the sleeping drug I mixed in his drink that night, he had no idea. He believed whatever I told him and my plan was working perfectly.

  Daniel got into panic mode and he could not stop asking for forgiveness. He thought that it was all his fault and that he destroyed my life. He was also worried for Clara because he knew that something like this could break her heart. She would lose her boyfriend and her best friend at the same time.

  I didn’t care about Clara at all. She was the last thing on my mind. She was as important to me as some dust in the wind.

  All I cared for was Daniel. I didn’t feel guilty at all for doing this to him because in the end, I knew that I could offer him a lot of love. I could make him happy. If I had to tell a few lies in order to make that happen, no problem. I was ready to do anything for him.

  He told me that I had his support no matter what I decided to do. I already knew this. I knew what kind of man he was. It was one of the reasons I loved him so much. Daniel was a man any woman could count on. I could tell that he hoped that I would end the pregnancy but I wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction.

  I wanted to make him believe that I was going to keep the baby. This was going to convince him to leave Clara and be with me. I was already picturing our wedding day.

  I played my role so well that I was actually believing myself. To be a good liar you have to believe it yourself first. Daniel left straight to Clara’s house. He asked me if I wanted to tell her together but I declined. Ii wasn’t in a mood to deal with all that drama. Clara loves to make everything about herself.

  After he confessed everything to Carla, as I expected, she broke up the relationship. It was exactly what I wanted. She tried to call me but I didn’t bother to pick up the phone. The last thing I wanted was to hear her crying over the phone and telling me what I bad friend I am.

  After a couple of days, I informed Daniel that I decided to keep the baby. My idea was to trick him for a few weeks, and in the meantime start a relationship with him. I was hoping to get pregnant for real soon enough. This way he would never find out the truth. I asked him to come over to talk about this.

  One Month Later

  I am waiting for Daniel to come over and bring me some strawberries. I still haven’t told him the truth and time is running out. For now he refuses to start a relationship.

  He said he just wants us to be friends and raise the baby together. This was not at all what I wanted especially since there was no baby. He acts all mysterious and he told me that he has something important to tell me. I can hear the door. He is finally here.

  “Daniel, you are two hours late! I was so worried!”

  “I have something to tell you. You are not the only one with a secret.”

  “What are you talking about?? I hav
e no secrets.”

  “Ow really? What about your fake pregnancy??”

  I am speechless. How could he know? I suspect he is just guessing so I stick to my story and refuse to admit that I lied to him. Suddenly, I see a strong light. It almost blinds me and I cannot see a thing. When the light gets back to normal, Daniel is gone. Instead of him, I have a werewolf in my house. I look into the werewolf’s eyes and I understand that’s Daniel.

  “Are you…a shapeshifter??”

  “Yes, I am! That is how I know the truth. At first I believed every word you said to me. Clara helped me see the real you though. After my chat with her, I followed you around and I used my special powers to see the past. I know now that we never even slept together.”

  “What are you going to do to me…?”

  My voice is trembling. I am terrified because I know werewolf shifters are capable of anything. He could just end my life in one second.

  “You don’t deserve anymore of my time. I am not going to do anything to you. For now…just stay away from me and Clara!”

  He left and I am on the floor crying. I cannot believe I lost the love of my life…
