My interview was with an older woman but now I was going to have my final interview with Derek Jones himself. He was the dream billionaire who really had it all. He looked like he spent all day lifting weights and he had charm and intelligence too. I had a secret crush on him ever since I first saw him in an interview on TV. I could not imagine working so close to such a fascinating man.
I prayed for him not to be so hot in real life, but unfortunately for me, he was even hotter. On TV I could not see that naughty light in his eyes that made my knees go a little weak. The fact that I could see his muscles through his shirt wasn’t helping either. I was never that type of girl who was attracted by the way a man looked. I was more drawn to a man’s intelligence and charm. However, Derek had it all. No wonder he was so successful in business and with women.
“Be professional Ana!” My subcontinent kept reminding me whenever I pictured how it would feel like to melt in his arms.
At the end of the interview I asked if I should expect a phone call. This was the procedure with all the other job interviews I’ve been to. Some of them called for a second interview, and all called eventually to let me know that I did not get the job.
“That will not be necessary.” He answered and I felt my cheeks going red. Great, now I was getting rejections to my face. This one hurt the most because I really wanted that job. I really wanted to get to see him again too and working for him was my only chance.
“Ow, okay, I understand. Have a nice day and thank you for taking the time to interview me.” I said trying to sound like he didn’t just crush my dreams.
“Wait, you did not let me finish. That won’t be necessary because you are hired. You can start on Monday morning.” He said.
I could not help myself and I did a little jump of joy. I quickly realized that I was behaving like a child and I thanked him by shaking his hand. He looked really amused and congratulated me.
I called Jenny and my mom to give them the good news. They were so relieved to hear that I was finally excited about something again. I was totally over Michael but the strange thing was that he was not ready to let go. He kept on showing up unannounced at my house with different excuses. Last night he came because he just bought a DVD with a movie he knew I would like. While I enjoy his friendship and it feels familiar and safe, I also do not want to give him fake hopes. He has a new girlfriend now and I was not the old Ana from before the accident.
I tried to talk to him about this and he assured me that all he wanted was my company and friendship. Jenny tried to warn me that things will eventually get messy. She did not believe in an honest friendship with someone you once had feelings for. I disagreed because I did not want to believe her. It felt good to have Michael in my life.
At work, Derek was spending a lot of time helping me get started. I thought it was strange that a billionaire boss was wasting his time with me. For sure he had other employees who could train me. I was not complaining though because that was exactly what I wanted. It did not take long for him to kiss me.
I knew it was wrong and it was possible putting my job at risk but I did not care. I could always find another job if things did not work out between us. However, I could never find another man like him. Jenny was away with work and I had no other friend to talk to except for Michael. I thought that since he had his own relationship, it was okay for me to talk about Derek.
I was wrong. He got very jealous and told me that most probably Derek was just using me. He thought that all billionaires are the same and I should stay away from him. At that moment, I realized that he was still in love with me. When I confronted him about it, he admitted it. He said that his relationship was over and he wanted me back. This was very confusing but I knew what I had to do. I refused him because my feelings for him were not love. I cared about him like a friend or bother.
One year later I am the wife of a hot billionaire and I never felt happier. This is the anniversary of the day I woke up from the comma and we are having a big party. That was the day that I was born again and I will always have 2 birthdays. I have no regrets because I know that if it wasn’t for the accident, I never would had been so happy today.
