Willow's Dragon: Dragon Mates: A BBW Paranormal Romance
Page 15
“Nothing left but you.”
How could she, the runner be the last person standing? Not that she thought she would be standing for long. Javon took her hand making her heart that was beating double time slow down.
“You don’t think I’m going to let you get away with this?”
That’s how to handle him.
“If you have something better to say I’ll channel it for you.” She waited, but nothing was forthcoming.
“I think I’m more disappointed in you than I am in them. You were born with a head full of white hair. You were the hope the dragons whispered about. Then I met you, and you were—.”
“A child. I went crying to my mother, and you laughed. The big bad evil shadow scaring the three-year-old. Yeah, I was only three.”
“You were the white-haired dragon's mate. Age shouldn’t have mattered.”
“You obviously didn’t get out enough. What did I know about dragons or mates? I was carrying my doll and having the time of my life.”
“You should still be carrying that doll because you never grew up. All you did was run.”
Javon’s hand tightened on hers. Mutufa threw his signature black lightning at them, and it passed right through.
“What?”
“It’s the weird thing about running. Eventually, you learn how to do it while standing still.”
“A parlor trick not one filled with power.”
“I agree.”
He threw several spears of power at them. She raised a shield to protect them.
“Let’s take this fight elsewhere.” Javon raised his hands, and the scenery changed.
“That was hot,” she whispered in his ear before they materialized.
“Where are we?” Mutufa demanded.
“A graveyard.”
He led Willow around stopping at certain grave.
“This is Mutufa’s daughter. He never knew she existed or that he killed her.”
“You’re lying.”
“Check it out for yourself.”
They moved out of the way, and he came and knelt by the grave reading the name on the tombstone before picking up a black shining ball.
“What’s that?”
“It’s the memory of the person in the grave.”
His screams colored the sky with pain.
“What happened?”
“His people were many things, both good and bad. One of the things about childbirth hindered them, though. I think in the beginning it was supposed to make sure they lived and thrived but in the end, it killed them. The females needed the father of the child to be present during the birth. She needed the energy only he could give to her and the child. The more powerful the father, the more they needed him. When she sent him an urgent message he chose to ignore it to fight with my brothers and me.”
Her heart broke for him. She couldn’t afford to feel pity, but her heart didn’t care. At this moment, he was a male that lost the most important thing in his life.
When he stood, he was clothed in bitterness.
“We didn’t know any more than you knew. You can stop this right here, reverse this.”
Mutufa’s hand raised picking up Javon and throwing him. He changed midair blowing fire at him. He swooped down, and Willow caught hold off him and hung on for dear life as he moved upward leaving Mutufa grounded.
When he leveled out, she climbed fully onto his back.
“Love, I’m beginning to think I won’t need Mutufa to kill me. One more ride like that should do it.”
“You handled that just fine.”
“What are we going to do?”
“You’re going to find a way to get him through the door to my plane.”
“Javon, did you hear that?”
“I did.”
“Good, I thought I was going crazy for a minute.”
“So, all we have to do is push him through your door.”
The voice that she knew belonged to George laughed. “I do love your sense of humor.”
“Wait, where’s the door?” He was gone. “If I throw him overboard a cruise ship would you think bad of me?”
“No, I would help you.”
Just another reason I love him.
“What are we waiting for?”
“To see if Mutufa can become a dragon. He had a spell that worked on his shadow form but will it work on his human form.”
“Why is the sun redder here than yellow?”
“This isn’t the human plane. This is his home plane, where his people retreated to when we pushed him onto serenities plane.”
“You didn’t know.”
He flew higher and arched his body in the warm rays of the sun.
“It should have been a priority.”
“That’s just it. The priority in war is staying alive. We protect our side, and they protect their side, and we meet on the battlefield wondering why in hell we couldn’t work it out before it went this far.”
“It never happens like that. Here he comes.”
A pale dragon rose up to meet them.
“You don’t look healthy like that.”
“Strong enough to win this war. Once I’m done, I’ll never need to become a dragon again.”
“You can’t feel sorry for him. He’ll pick up on it and use it to his advantage.”
She knew he was right, but her heart ached for him. He cured it by throwing a bolt of lightning at Javon’s heart. She made a shield that protected him and redirected the lightning back to Mutufa.
Javon dipped heading straight for the ground and pulling up at the last minute. Mutufa almost hit the ground before he was able to stop. He hovered over the ground before he directed his nose upward. Willow pulled out sparks of lightning that tore into his flank and made him retreat.
“There’s a little fight within you, still not what I expected but you're holding your own.”
“Is your speech part of your battle strategy? You enflame your opponent into making a mistake?”
He threw a lightning strike. They exchanged battle strikes with no one taking a fatal hit.
Mutufa flew around Javon aiming for his side. At the last minute, he directed the bolt of energy to Willow’s back. She screamed as pain poured through her. She fell off Javon’s back the ground rushing up to meet her.
Mutufa flew into Javon’s side as he went after Willow. His claws tearing chunks out of his flank. Javon flailed his voice leaving sounds of pain in the air as he called Willow’s name.
He fell to the ground hard searching for his mate. She was lying not far from where he fell. When she saw him, she rose on unsteady legs and made her way to him.
“You’re alive.”
“I’m beginning to think my gift is a bad ass, she also talks too much, but is determined we live as long as possible. She made a balloon cushion with the air current. For anything more technical you’ll have to talk to her.”
Her hands were all over him looking for what was wrong.
“I’ve wanted your hands on me mate, and you wait to do it in the middle of war.” He tried to make his voice light, but pain colored every word. “Move back, so I can change.”
His change was slower, painful, and it made her mad. She wanted to ring Mutufa’s neck.
“Your leg.” Anger made her whole body vibrate. She checked the skies but didn’t see him.
“He took a large chunk of it.”
She moved closer to him and raised her hands until they glowed, then she laid them on his wound. He screamed, but his secret was safe with her. She cauterized it and then watched as it began to mend together in front of her eyes.
“That’s a powerful gift you have.” He told her as he struggled to stay conscious.
“We have to get off this plane.”
“I can travel. Take the coordinate of where we have to go from my mind. You can do it. I trust you.”
He trusted her. That warm feeling she had whenever he was around was back. He was just simple and straight forward when
it came to her. She didn’t have to guess what he was feeling, and that made her feel good. The coordinates were right there waiting for her. The power she always kept in check sprang forth filling her. There was no more running or hiding her power, she let it flow through her body as they moved through the planes.
They landed where they started off. Nothing had changed. The scene told the story of the battle that was but was never finished.
“It’s all over. You are the last two. When your frozen this battle will go down in the history books, if I let there be history books. I’ll call it the battle of the mates who couldn’t. Almost sounds like a fairy tale.”
“What will you call it when we win?”
“A dream.”
She glanced back at Javon who was favoring his right side. The left side was still mending. It didn’t matter to him he was still feeding her power. That was his role in this war to feed her as much power as possible. It was the only thing they were missing, power.
“You drained them, didn’t you?”
“As many as possible. They knew that they may have to die for the glorious new world order to become a reality, I simply cashed in early.”
He was riding a high of power. How was she supposed to beat that? What was she supposed to do? The Oracles told her there was no help for her, nothing they could tell her to help. Then Samantha said to accept it all. Accept what? That she wasn’t good enough, smart enough, fast enough? Accept that she and everyone around her would die? What was she supposed to accept?
Jillian called her a linchpin if only she understood. Mutufa stood with his hands outstretched, and she knew what was coming next. She could fight it, but why? Samantha was right it was time to accept it all. The Oracles were there floating in the air watching her while sitting Indian style. They had obviously mastered a level in yoga she didn’t know existed.
She moved, placing her body at the tip of the arrow they formed. Syn and Alexa, along with Maceo and Nadia were on her right. On her left was Selena and then Zeno and Skye. Each dragon was touching his mate feeding her power. Each mate had a weapon in her hand or leaving her hands. Willow raised her hands as Javon placed his hand on her back. They got in place right as he sent out his ice to freeze them.
Nothing moved, and Mutufa crowed his victory.
“Are you frozen?”
“No, and neither are you. So, what do we do next?”
“I think I know. Just hold on.”
“Yes Love, I’ll maintain this awkward position as if I were frozen.”
There was laughter in his voice, but she moved quickly.
Chapter Twenty-five
She moved the last obstacle in her way. Several years ago, she stopped examining what was inside of her afraid of what she would find. This time she walked boldly into the place that was her mind, heart, and soul. She looked around reminding herself that her life was on line not to mention Javon’s life.
She was imaging this place like a café. One of the one’s that served any flavor coffee you wanted or brandy. It was small and expensive, and the people were dressed in their best but still comfortable clothes.
“We missed you, Willow.” Sitting in the corner was a midnight dark male. His smile made her feel welcome.
“Glad to have you back.” That was spoken by a bright red female.
When she was little, she didn’t know what to do with this much power, so she made them friends gave them personalities and faces. And that’s how she kept them under control. That’s why she never went crazy or almost lost her gifts because they were with her from the minute she was born.
Then one day she ran, not because she wanted to but because they demanded she run. ‘No one can know’ they whispered to her continually, until she started to run.
Now she knew they were staying away from Mutufa pretending she was weak. If she were weak, he had no reason to come after her. She was strong, stronger than all the others because she had the ability to do what they couldn’t do. It was only given to the white-haired dragon's mate.
“Are you ready?”
“We’ve been waiting all of our lives for today.” They came together as one. One color mixed with another color until they were a rainbow. If they wanted to win, it would take them all. They melded into her until she vibrated with the power they gave her, then she opened her eyes.
“Impossible.” He screamed when he saw her move. He turned his power into a knife and tried to cut her in half. It dropped at her feet.
“They always say it’s the quiet ones. The ones like me.”
“You’re not powerful, I looked at you, I looked into you. All you have is imaginary people.”
“What have I told you about making judgments against children?”
She reached out and took hold of Alexa’s power and drew it in close. Then she reached for Nadia’s power and brought it in. They throbbed in her hand twisting and turning in their desire to get to Mutufa.
With her other hand, she reached out and stroked Selena’s power before she caught it close. Finally, she took Skye’s power. She was humming with power now. She could feel each dragon draining himself for his mate.
“It won’t matter. You’re not powerful enough to beat me.”
Javon’s power was flowing through her. He had been caged for centuries, all the charge he was never able to get rid of was pouring into her.
She supercharged every gift in her hands and then let them fly. Each hit him banging against the shield he erected until it shattered. The gifts attacked him until he was unable to fight them. They surround him wanting to end his life, but she pulled them back. If they killed him, they would be in the same predicament.
They surrounded him instead making sure he couldn’t move. That’s when the door opened. She lifted her hand watching as he rose and pushed forward shoving him into another plane where he screamed for mercy. The door closed and disappeared.
She fell to the ground drained. Each couple followed her down.
*~*~*~*
“Willow.”
“Five more minutes, please.”
“You need to wake up Willow, you’ve been asleep for a week.”
“That’s impossible.”
“That’s what I said, but you wouldn’t wake up.”
She opened an eye to see that she was in their room. Their room? Yes, they were mated. They were victorious or had it all been a dream?
“We got rid of him?”
“We did. He’s locked on a plane he can’t get away from.”
“I did that, we did that.”
“Yes and yes. We couldn’t do it without you.”
“I’m not really a runner.” She opened the second eye to see a corner full of bags and other items. “What’s that?”
“I bought some things that you have been talking about, but we can always send what you don’t like back.”
Her lips quirked in a smile. “The others, what happened to them?
“All of them are well. They slept for about three days before they woke.”
“Selena and the dead?”
“Selena is fine. She’s reunited with her family and says she owes you a lifetime of service. If you have a need and she can do it, she will.”
“I knew she was good.”
“My brothers are fine and have been coming here every day hounding me. They say they will come until you wake up and they can see you with their own eyes.”
“They like me.”
“No, they love you like a little sister. Zeno’s all for it, he’s tired of being the youngest.”
“What about us?”
He slid into the bed next to her. “I see us growing old together with children around us grossing out every time I kiss you.”
“I like that.” Her voice was husky, and she opened up when he leaned down to kiss her. He gathered her into his arms and held her close.
“You need to be looked at. I want to make sure you’re okay.”
“I know a way to make sure my heart is fin
e.”
He smacked her on her thigh before he rubbed it.
“Be good I’m just a male. I don’t have a lot of willpower where you're concerned.”
She leaned over and bit him on his shoulder then groaned when the doorbell rang. He got up and went to see who was there.
“What do you want?”
“Is she up. Never mind that look on your face tells it all. Open up.”
“Syn and the rest are here. I think we need to get up.”
She laughed and got up. She staggard and would have hit the floor if Javon hadn’t caught her.
“A little light headed and dizzy. I think I need to eat.”
“All I could get was fluid in you. I think we’ll take a shower together.”
“We need a new shower.”
“I already have someone to draw up the new plans whenever you’re ready.”
“You think of everything.”
He took her in the shower and washed her, she was having a hard enough time standing on her own.
“I can’t believe I’m so weak.” They were in the elevator, and she was leaning against his side.
“You drained yourself. Your energy will come back.”
When the door opened to the kitchen, they were all there talking at once.
“You’re a real bad ass,” Nadia whispered as she hugged her.
Alexa moved in and hugged her next. “I know still waters run deep. I wasn’t surprised at all.”
Skye came up and hugged her. “I always wanted to be there when you let loose. So glad I was able to see it.”
“We all did. Not sure how it happened, it was like a large television screen was in front of us, and we could see what you were doing. When you took my power in your hands, I could see it. It was amazing because it was still connected to Zeno and me. He was still feeding it, and then you gave it a super charge, and it was beautiful. I knew Mutufa was a goner.”
Javon moved her over to a chair after his brothers each got a turn to hug her.
