"I'm so sorry," I blushed.
"Don't be," he said as he kissed me softly.
Holding me close to him, he pressed his hand onto me and felt my wetness in his hand. Before I could react his fingers were pulling my panties to the side and stroking at my hot and swollen lips. I cried out as he brushed my clitoris, burrowed my head into his chest and grasped at his shirt.
He was working fast but gently, pinching my clit between his thumb and forefinger and rubbing it. Then his fingers were inside me, one then two, pulsing in and out as they hit my g-spot over and over again. I climaxed fast, contracting onto his fingers as a steady stream of juice trickled down the inside of his wrist.
For a long while we lay in silence, my head on his chest and his body half slumped against the sofa. Around us the night settled in, cloaking us in its veil of darkness. My eyes grew heavy and I closed them as the rhythm of his chest rising and falling lulled me to sleep. As everything around me drifted away, I felt his hand grab mine and with the last of my strength I looked up and saw he too was falling asleep. The last thing I saw were the clouds as they covered the crescent moon, its silvery light casting shapes across the office.
Chapter Seven
"Wake up."
I opened my eyes. It was still dark outside. Trevor was whispering, gently shaking my shoulder.
"Hey, sweetheart. Wake up."
Letting out a big yawn, I looked up to him.
"What's wrong? Do I have to leave?"
As soon as I finished speaking I knew that's not what he wanted. I felt it first, his hard cock that was pressing up against the inside of my thigh.
"I need you so much," he grunted.
Feeling myself grow wet once again, but still feeling dazed and sleepy, I rolled over onto my side and let him pull my leg up high. I felt exposed and vulnerable as my knee touched the side of my face. I had never been contorted into such a position before and tensed up as he pushed his tip in between my lips.
"Are you ok?" he asked, his eyes staring into mine.
I nodded.
"Do you want me to stop?"
"No," I said. "Just don't be too rough."
I felt myself grow loose as he pushed into me. He was slow as he moved, his shaft only half entering me.
"Oh, God."
I closed my eyes and let the pleasure wash over me. It came in waves each time he thrust. I listened to the sound our bodies made, the way his breath got faster and more desperate and how our skin stuck together, damp with sweat. Then his hands were on my hips, his voice becoming louder. I knew it was the moment he was going to push himself all the way in.
All I could do was scream as I surrendered my body to him. He was soon rolling on top of me, grinding me down into the sofa. I leaned up and bit into his chest, the taste of his sweat mingling with the sharp, metallic tang of his blood. He let out an angry snarl and grabbed my hands, holding them above my head. I watched as a bead of blood ran down his chest, ruby red and thick.
“Fuck.”
His voice was so low it was almost a growl.
“You’re so beautiful.”
He moved faster, his hips reaching a steady and frantic rhythm as the sofa creaked beneath us. Then our eyes were boring into each other’s, our faces twisted and open mouthed as we reached orgasm. He held me close as we came in unison, his body tremoring as he ejaculated.
Then he was silent with his head resting on my breasts. I reached down and stroked the back of his head, feeling the soft strands of dark hair between my fingers. I could see where the single drop of blood had run down his body to meet mine before falling down my waist and into the white upholstery. It looked like an exploding hibiscus flower.
I’d never been happier.
Chapter Eight
I still didn’t know what I was meant to be doing in my office. Occasionally, Karen would enter with that scowling face of hers and give me some menial task.
“Here, photocopy these,” she’d say before dumping a pile of paper on my desk.
But it somehow didn’t seem like much of a job. It was all too easy and there were long periods of time spent where all I had to do was stare out the window. I’d look into the offices of neighboring towers and wonder if there were other girls who were as bored as me, other interns who had no idea what they were doing and were caught up in a filthy, impetuous affair with their bosses.
This morning I had woken up in Trevor’s office with a sore neck and an even sorer feeling down below. But it had been worth it. I couldn’t stop thinking about the way he looked down at me as he came almost as if he was worshipping me. Despite me showering and changing, I could still smell his skin on mine, could still pick up the occasional hint of his cologne in my hair.
I swiveled around in my chair and faced the world. If you tuned out all the noise and focused only on the rectangular shapes on the skyline, it was easy to imagine that none of it was real. It could have been a model set, a child’s Lego dream world or a flimsy movie set. I tapped my fingers against the glass and imagined the buildings dropping to the ground as though they were made of cardboard.
The building in front of me, a great big shard of concrete, steel and glass was only taller than Wylde Tower by a measly two floors. Apparently, they were both built at the same time and the contractors were in an endless battle to build the tallest building. It was a sort of rich man’s pissing contest, a ridiculous game of who could build the biggest phallus.
As far as I knew it was a financial center, a place most likely filled with offices just like this one. For a brief moment, the sun pierced through a patch of cloud and illumined the floor that was level with mine, giving me an insight into the lives of my peers across the street. Fluorescent lights lined the ceilings. Below people were trapped up in a sedentary, cyber chain gain, their hands psychologically tethered to their keyboards. Nearest to me was a boy about my age. I squinted and saw his tie was loose around his neck, his shirt unbuttoned at the top and his hair fluffed up into a tuft as though he’d been tugging at it. I was just about to look away when he turned his head. He was looking right at me. Or at least I thought he was. For all I know he could have been looking at the room next to mine or he was just staring into space. I raised my hand and waved. He waved back. I could see the white strip between his lips of where he was smiling.
I smiled back then opened my legs. His jaw dropped and he nudged his friend beside him. I slid a hand between my legs and began rubbing myself, bringing myself to the brink of orgasm as I thought about last night. I imagined the way Trevor held me, relived the moment he flung his head back as he climaxed. Soon there was a crowd of people watching. Some were shaking their heads as though they were disgusted while others were holding up their phones, eager to video a keepsake of the sordid moment.
Behind me, the click of the door handle startled me and I spun around and crossed my legs just in time for Karen to walk in clutching another pile of paper. She had a weird expression on her face as he looked over the top of my head.
“What are all those guys doing down there?” she asked.
I glanced over my shoulder.
“What guys?”
“All of them across there?” she pointed. “They look as though they’re looking right in here. Wait, are they filming us?”
I bit the inside of my cheek to stifle a giggle.
“I can’t see anything,” I said.
She crumpled up her forehead.
“Hmmm…”
“Something the matter Karen?”
She lingered for a moment with her wary eyes on me.
“I don’t know,” she narrowed her eyes. “You’re up to something aren’t you?”
I didn’t say a word, just took the files from her wrinkled hands and set about filing them away.
“Bring me a macchiato, will you?” I asked without looking up.
She loitered for another few seconds, her eyes darting from me to the crowd across the street. Then she turned on her heel as she huffed. The do
or slammed shut and I burst out laughing. I turned back around and gave the guys a cheeky wave then I pulled the blinds shut.

The day was almost over. I was staring at the clock hoping the last ten minutes would hurry up and pass but the longer I watched the minutes tick by, the slower it seemed to go. I sighed and leaned against my hand. I didn’t know why I was waiting exactly, after all, it wasn’t as though I’d get in trouble if I left early but I didn’t want to have to explain myself to Karen. She was already annoyed with me and full of snide comments every time she came in with a coffee. I imagined her in the back kitchen spitting into each espresso she poured.
I checked my phone. I was hoping to have a message from Trevor but there was nothing. Just a text from my mom asking me to phone her but I didn’t feel much like doing that. Since I left home it was a relief to not hear her shrieking voice as it reverberated around the house. I pushed my phone into my purse and gathered my things to leave. Heading for the door, I looked forward to a hot bath and a glass of wine. I thought about snuggling up in my pajamas and maybe putting a movie on and making a pizza. I had my whole night planned out, and then my phone rang. Looking at the screen, I saw it was a number I didn’t recognize and my heart began to thud. Ignoring it, I strode out the office. It rang again, then again and again. By the fifth time I felt as though I had no choice but to answer it.
“Hello? Who is this?”
“Tammy?”
“Stephen?”
“Hey… It took you freakin’ ages to answer!”
“Sorry, I didn’t know it was you! Where are you calling from?”
“A payphone,” he answered.
He sounded stressed. In the background, there was a cacophony of loud noises and car horns.
“Where the hell are you?” I asked worriedly.
“Erm… I’m not sure. Somewhere on the edge of New Jersey, I think.
“What?”
“I jumped on a bus Tammy. You said I could visit when you were settled.”
“Are you fucking serious?”
I walked back into the office and slumped down in my seat. Looking out the window I saw the sky turn a stormy gray. My little brother was out there in the cold somewhere far away from home.
“I’m sorry, sis. It’s just that I couldn’t take it anymore. The fighting, the yelling. It all went to shit as soon as you left, got so much worse. Dad… he….”
He was choking back tears, coughing on his own words.
“Calm down,” I tried to soothe him although my own hands were shaking. “Tell me what happened.”
“He hit her,” he sobbed. “I saw it. He actually lashed out and slapped her across the face.”
“Bastard!”
“It’s never been like this before. I just didn’t know what to do. I ran upstairs and grabbed Dad’s wallet and headed to the bus station. I jumped on the first one to New York. I’m an idiot Tammy! I’m so confused. You gotta help me. I don’t know what’s going on. Dad’s probably gonna kill me. What if he kills Mom?”
I could hear his tears fall into the receiver making his voice muffled. This was bad, really bad. I was supposed to be the adult in this situation, was supposed to make sure my little brother was safe. But what about my parents?
“Shit… this is a nightmare,” was all I could say as tears began to prick my eyes. “He was always a bit of a psycho, a dick that lost his temper but he’s never hurt her before.”
Stephen was now sobbing wildly. He sounded like a kid and in more ways than one that’s all he was. A beep interrupted us, a strange robotic whir down the line.
“Fuck, my money’s running out. I’m supposed to be arriving in New York at ten. You’ll be there won’t you?”
“Sure,” I said. “But-“
The line went dead. I tried to call it back but there was no answer. I pushed my forehead onto my desk and let the tears drip onto the wood.
Chapter Nine
The bus station was crowded and I was soon lost in a sea of winter travelers, their bobbled hats and hooded jackets blocking my view of the terminals. Somewhere in the distance, among the hubbub of chattering voices, I thought I heard someone call my name. Reaching up on tip toes, I tried to see Stephen but it was hopeless. There were a hundred teenage boys with blonde hair, all of them looking just like him until I took a moment to look closer.
“Tammy!”
I craned my neck to see over a group of Japanese tourists.
“Tammy!”
A hand shoved me in the back.
“Hey!”
“Tammy for Christ’s sake I’ve been calling you forever.”
“Sorry. I couldn’t see you.”
He rolled his eyes.
“You look strange,” he said.
“Oh, thanks. You’re a real charmer.”
“Shut up. I mean you look different. Like all grown up. Since when did you wear power suits like some crazy assassin from an eighties movie?”
“Like an assassin from an eighties movie…” I repeated with a deadpan expression. “Anyway, you have some explaining to do. I can’t believe you’re here!”
I linked my arm into his and led him out to the curb where we hailed a cab.
“A real yellow, New York cab,” he gasped.
“Yeah, they’re terrific but listen to me. You ran away from home and with Dad’s wallet! They’ll be furious. It’s a miracle they haven’t called the police yet.”
The driver gave us a shifty look in the rearview mirror, obviously entertained by our conversation. I lowered my voice.
“I mean Mom texted me but I didn’t think it was important.”
“Oh did she?” Stephen raised an eyebrow.
“And what am I supposed to do? Call the cops on Dad?”
Stephen shrugged and raised his hands in despair.
“This is a fucking nightmare!”
I cradled my head in my hands and suddenly felt out of my depth. Meanwhile, Stephen was looking out the window as if he was having the time of his life. His eyes lit up as central New York passed him by. Out the corner of my eye, I saw the turn off for the Vault and all the memories of Sebastian came back to me. It was almost Saturday. Would he be waiting for me?
“How can you look so bored?” Stephen asked as he playfully punched me in the arm.
“I’m not bored,” I said. “I’m just worried.”
“You look bored like you’ve been living here your whole life.”
“I’m not bored!”
“Fine, whatever.”
At last, we were parked at the foot of the Windermere. Stepping out, Stephen whistled as he looked to the roof top.
“You live here?”
“Yeah,” I pulled out my keys. “You’ll love it. I’ve got a spare room you can have. For now…”
His mouth was dropped open the whole time until we reached my front door and I physically had to close it with a pretend uppercut to his jaw.
“You’ll stay like that if the wind changes,” I said.
“Oh… You think you’re so funny now.”
Jesus, what was with his attitude? I pushed him through the door and watched as he threw his bags to the floor and began running from room to room like an over excited child.
“This place is amazing! I can’t believe you live here!”
“Ok, Stephen. Settle down.”
“But seriously,” he panted as he continued to run. “I bet you have all sorts of crazy parties in here!”
“Sure. Yeah. Anyway, will you just sit down! I’ll get us some food.”
He slumped on the couch in a little pretend sulk.
“Yes… Moooom!”
“Urgh... Don’t call me that.”
I looked through the cupboards and found nothing that I thought he would like. Eventually, I grabbed a bag of chips and threw them to him.
“Here. Bon Appetit.”
“So you speak French now. La di dah!”
He wiggled his fingers in my face. He was driving me nut
s already.
“Right. Listen to me. I’m going to call Mom and I’m going to tell here that you’re here and that you’re fine. She’s probably freakin’ apoplectic right now. Then we’re going to post Dad’s wallet back to him with the money you took for the bus fare.”
He was blushing as his cheeks grew chubby with food.
“Fine,” he nodded his head. “But I still wanna kick his ass.”
I grabbed my phone and waited to be screamed at.
“Wait!”
Stephen suddenly grabbed my wrist, his eyes wild and scared.
“If you call she’ll demand to speak to me. Send her a text and then leave it.”
“Ok but… What are we to do about Dad?”
We both sat in silence with nothing but the sound of him crunching potato chips punctuating the quiet.
“I have no idea,” I eventually blurted out. “Let’s just hope he doesn’t do it again.”
“That’s a terrible idea!”
“Well… Isn’t it up to Mom if she wants to press charges?”
“Isn’t it up to us to protect her?” Stephen argued.
“If you wanted to protect her so much why did you run away?”
The bag of chips began to crumple in between his angry hands. I saw his fingers were burning red with white forming across his knuckles. He was raging mad and I’d never seen him like it.
“Because I’m a coward,” he said. “Because Dad has always scared me and I took off like an moron.”
Tears began to dribble out the corners of his eyes.
“Come here,” I hugged him tight. “We’re in this together.”
He let the chips fall the floor before wrapping his arms around me as he sobbed. Poor guy, I thought. He’s a just a scared, little kid.
Chapter Ten
"Yo, Stephen."
I was shaking him as hard as I could but he still wasn't waking up.
"Are you fucking dead?"
A low grumble came from beneath the covers.
"Stephen? Get the hell up?"
He rolled over and opened his eyes. For a second he looked terrified like he had no idea where he was or what I was doing beside him. Then something flickered in his eyes and he remembered.
