Holy shit! Oh my god! Nooo!

I felt sick to my stomach. I turned to Charlie for support, but he had this look of resignation on his face. I wasn’t sure if I could accept what we both now knew.

Our daughter was a baby sucker.

Fast-forward ten years after Black October. Kate leads a happy life in Bullsbrook with Charlie and their daughter Sue. For years they have been hiding the true identity of their daughter, and nobody but her closest friends know their secret.

One dark day, Kate invites a colleague into her home, and Sue is exposed for what she truly is.

The situation quickly spirals downhill from there.

Can Kate keep her family and her wits together?

  Acknowledgements

First of all, I would like to thank my children, Catherine and Thomas, who encouraged me to write down my dream, the root of this story. Without them, I wouldn’t have begun writing and wouldn’t have known the enjoyment it gives me. I also thank them for putting up with me since I began on this writing journey, sitting behind my computer for hours on end. Love you guys!

I would like to thank Ruth Morris, who proofread the first chapters and pointed out to me that there are no ‘pound stores’ in America. She made me realize the story needed to happen in a proper American setting instead of in a mismatch of a European, American, and Australian setting, with matching proper American English.

A big thank you to my friends Suzie, Bob, Chris, and my mother, who all proofread my first draft and encouraged me to keep writing.

I couldn’t have delivered the first publication without my official proofreader, Dr. Chloe Alexander, Academic Skills Adviser (Academic Writing) at the University of Aberdeen. She taught me a lot about the English language.

Thank you to all my friends at the One Stop Fiction Authors’ Resource Facebook Group. You know who you are! They have been a tremendous help and a source of encouragement, keeping me sane throughout the months. I am so glad I’m not alone on this indie writer’s journey! This fourth publication wouldn’t be what it is today without the help of my special friend Stephanie Sansom. Her critique and suggestions have been invaluable. She made me think like a normal person and wasn’t afraid to tell me when my writing was $#!t .

Last but not least, I couldn’t have done any of this without the perpetual tolerance and love of my husband. He is finally realizing this is not just another hobby, and he puts up with my minimal (renovation) activity in our house, my dismal cooking efforts, and little attention to his needs. Your never-fading belief in me is inspiring. I love you.
