As the daughter of one tier and the daughter-in-law of another, finding the address had been simple. One phone call and done. Her new Tesla delivered her to the front door of the condo in question in less than ten minutes.

Now came the hard part. Only, as Kat rang the doorbell, she didn’t feel one bit nervous. She felt exhilarated.

Nadia opened the door wearing nothing but a flimsy negligee. Typical.

The Nordic beauty’s eyes widened in surprise at the sight of Katrina standing on her doorstep. Surprise was quickly replaced with suspicion. Yet through it all, she smiled.

“Katrina. What a lovely surprise.” She dipped one shoulder low enough a strap fell down one creamy shoulder. Clearly, practiced.

“May I come in?” Katrina asked and then, without waiting for an answer, pushed past the woman into her large living room.

“Of course,” she purred, closing the door behind Kat.

“You have a lovely place,” Katrina cooed, taking inventory of the white leather couches and glass tables. It looked like half the model homes in real estate brochures.

“I choose my decorators quite carefully.” Nadia’s tone seemed to imply Kat didn’t. “I’d be happy to give you some names. Of course, Alex’s place is already beautifully decorated so I’m sure you don’t need them.”

Kat didn’t even bristle at the comment meant to imply Nadia knew his place as well or better than his own wife. Last night had been a turning point in their relationship, and Kat felt secure in the knowledge that Alex had never loved anyone before her. He could have kept all the furniture, if she’d realized it sooner, but the gesture had touched her beyond words.

“Shame you have to move,” Kat said idly, running a finger along the back of a cream suede chair. “But you’ll have time to pack up most of it. Probably.”

“Move?” Nadia laughed, no doubt incredulous at Kat’s stupidity. “Sweetie, why on earth would I move?”

Kat turned, the fake smile falling away from her face and her tone turning to steel. “Because you have twenty-four hours to leave town.”

A flicker of alarm flashed in Nadia’s eyes, but she did her best to maintain her dignity and what she thought was dominance. “What are you talking about, silly? I’m not going anywhere.”

Kat shrugged her indifference. “That’s certainly your decision, but I wouldn’t recommend staying. I mean, just imagine what the newly merged clan would do once they hear about how you tried to break up my marriage and ruin our very tentative peace.”

Nadia’s ice blue eyes widened in alarm. “You wouldn’t!”

Kat ignored her. “Of course, nothing the clan members could do would match the hell I’ll wreak upon you if you ever contact my husband again.”

Nadia opened her mouth to reply, but she didn’t get the chance. Without warning, Katrina rushed at her, fangs and claws extended, and pinned her against the wall.

“Twenty-four hours,” Kat growled into the other woman’s shocked face, “and then I rip you to shreds…sweetie.”

Two days ago, Kat had no doubt Nadia would have acted defiant, even tried to fight back, but now — after Kat had fully accepted and relished her status — the woman dipped her head in submission and whined.

  “I’ll go,” Nadia whimpered.

Without another word, Katrina walked out, leaving the door open behind her.

Twenty minutes later, she kicked open the door to their apartment. “I’m home!”

Alex rushed to her, grabbing the box of donuts and paper cups of coffee from her overloaded arms. “Wow! Breakfast delivered? What a sweet wife I have.”

He kissed her cheek and quickly retreated to the kitchen. Some women might have wanted a more lavish show of appreciation — maybe some French kissing or a throw-down right there against the door — but Kat knew they would have plenty of time for all of that. Simply knowing they belonged to each other was enough for her.

“I had an errand to run too,” she said as she followed him, “but that’s been handled and I’m all yours for the rest of the day.”

“Good. What would you like to do today?”

She couldn’t help laughing at the way he waggled his eyebrows.

“Definitely some of that. But I think we should also talk names.”

“Names?” Alex asked as he dropped a maple bar on a plate.

Kat waited until he turned to face her. When he saw how she held her hand on her tummy, his eyes widened. Then he grinned bigger than she’d ever seen and love filled her down to her toes.

  “Names.”
