“Oh my goodness!” The nurse exclaimed. “I mean, how may I help you, Miss?”

“My name is Baylynn Hansberry and I got into a fight with my boyfriend. I think my wrist might be broken.” She sobbed and held up her hand.

“I’ll get you some help right away.”

  “Thank you.”

The nurse grabbed the first doctor she seen and telling him about Baylynn. The doctor took one look at her, put her in a wheelchair and rushed her to the back to an empty room. Once she was in the room, the doctor told her to put on a hospital gown and someone will be back in shortly. As instructed, she slipped on the gown and laid in the bed. Minutes later, a medical assistant came in to check her vitals before asking Baylynn what happened. She put on the performance of a lifetime as she made up a lie about what happened to her.

After listening to her story, the medical assistant showed empathy for her. The medical assistant treated Bay with tender loving care as the medical assistant wheeled her to the x-ray room to see if her arm was broken then wheeling her back. As she waited for the doctor to come in with the pictures of her x-ray, a satisfying smiled crept on her face.

“Ms. Hansberry?” the doctor called out to her.

  “Yes?”

“I’m Doctor Warrick. How are feeling today?”

“My face and wrist hurt. I’m just happy to be alive.”

“I understand. Well, I have the pictures from your x-ray and your wrist is indeed fractured. We’re going to put a hard cast on your wrist and in about four to six weeks, the cast can be removed if it’s healed.” The doctor smiled.

  “Okay.” Baylynn nodded her head.

“Ms. Hansberry, before I go, I just want to inform you that when someone is involved in domestic violence, the police have to be notified. I just wanted to let you know so you wouldn't be alarmed when the cops came to question you.”

  “Thank you, Doctor Warrick.”

“No problem. Someone will be in to be put your cast on and treat those bruises,” the Doctor said before he left.

A couple of hours later, her arm was wrapped and her bruises were bandaged. When the cops came to question her, she was a little woozy from the medication they had given her to treat the pain but she managed to give the cops a full report as well as Ramsey’s full name and address. Baylynn also added that he was a well-known drug dealer and that he kept drugs at his house. The cops promised that her attacker would be taken care of and that was music to her ears as she drifted off to sleep.

Ramsey and his mother drove to a banquet hall in West Chester where Cassi’s party was being held. He had many things on his mind as he drove for almost an hour to the banquet hall but his main thoughts were of Cassi and Cashmere. Every other weekend for the past few months that Ramsey had Cassi, he thought back to when she was first born and how he felt an instant connection with her that he didn't feel with Brandi. Thoughts had crossed his mind that Cassi might not be his but every time he looked into his daughter’s eyes, his doubts quickly vanished. The love he felt for Cassi was something he could no longer question.

After the gathering Ramsey had at his house, his relationship with Cashmere was making progress but he was ready for their relationship to get back to where it used to be. He missed being inside her wet pussy and the way he used to dick her down but what he missed the most was the bond that they had. Ramsey knew it was going to be awhile before he was fully back in her good graces but he was going to do whatever it took to win her heart again.

When they arrived at their destination, he was surprised that everyone had made it there before him but he figured better late than never. Finding a parking spot close to the entrance, he popped the trunk after killing the engine. Renee grabbed as many gifts as she could while he grabbed the rest, closed the trunk and went inside. They walked straight ahead to the room that had yellow and white balloons on each side of the open door. He quickly walked inside sitting the gifts on the gift table before he was greeted by Cash who was holding a happy Cassi.

“It’s about time you got here.” She hugged him before passing him Cassi.

“Man, blame Renee. She wanted to take forever to get ready.” He shook his head. “Happy birthday princess.” He kissed his daughter’s cheek.

“So, what do you think of the room?”

“It looks nice. I know you didn't do all this by yaself.”

“Hell no. My sister, Ryan and Tiff helped. That’s why they’re here so early.”

  “Your sister?”

“Damn, I never told about you her. She called me while we were in Aruba. When I moved out here, we met up and were working on our relationship.” Cash smiled before she walked off.

His eyes followed Cash over to the table where a woman that looked like her was sitting with Ryan, Tiff and Randall. He watched as she pulled her sister up from the table dragging her over to where he was standing.

“Ramsey, this is my older sister, Tamia. Tamia, this is my baby daddy, Ramsey.”

“So, I’m just ya baby daddy now, huh?” he smirked.

“Until we get back to where we used to be, yes.”

“It’s nice to finally meet you, Ramsey. I heard a lot about you,” Tamia said with a smile and extended hand.”

“Same here.” He shook her hand in return. “So, I guess this is everybody that’s comin’?”

“You know Cassi don't have no friends. Plus, she’s only one. She doesn’t need a big party, Rams.”

“I mean for all the money you spent to rent this room, you coulda had this party at my crib. Shit.”

“I had the party out here because it’s closer to my apartment and I wouldn't have a long drive home when it was over.”

  “You live out here?”

  “Yes, I do.”

Ramsey was about to go in on her until his mother came over interrupting them. Taking Cassi from her son, Renee hit the dance floor with her granddaughter. When the wobble came on, all the ladies hit the floor while the men sat down and watched the women work. Ramsey’s focus remained on his baby mama as he stalked her on the dance floor. He was feeling some type of way that she moved all the way to West Chester just to get away from him. It was bad enough that she just gave him her new number the night of the gathering but to learn that she lived an hour and some change away from him messed him up inside.

After the women danced for a few songs, Cash figured that they would say happy birthday, eat and open gifts. Ramsey held Cassi as they sung happy birthday and they helped Cassi blow out her candles. Ryan and Tamia made plates for everyone and cut slices of cake as well. Ramsey tried to feed his baby girl some of his fried chicken, potato salad and greens but she refused to eat. When she dug her hands into his slice of cake that was in of them, he laughed and so did everyone else.

When it was time to open gifts, Cassi was fighting to keep her eyes open. So, they decided to just end the party and take the gifts to Cash’s house. There were so many gifts that everyone with a car had to take some gifts and load them in their cars. Ryan and Renee stayed behind to clean up as everyone else took the gifts to Cash’s house, which was twenty minutes away.

Ramsey admired her nicely furnished three-bedroom apartment after carrying all the gifts from his car to his daughter’s room where he found Cashmere putting Cassi in her crib. He stood next to Cash as they stared at their one-year old baby girl that was knocked out.

“It feels like yesterday I was just giving birth to her and today she turned one. I can’t believe it.” She smiled.

“Yeah, I was thinkin’ about the first time I held her in my arms. That’s when I realized that I loved somebody more than myself and gave my life more meanin’.”

“More meaning than being a street nigga?”

“Yeah. I mean, I love my money and the streets but I know that the streets don't love nobody and that everythin’ I have can be taken away at any second. I wouldn't know what to do with my life if I wasn’t in the game no more but I know one thing for sure. I can
t stay in the game forever.”

“If you weren’t so busy living a double life and opened your eyes to what was in front of you, you would have saw that I was trying to give you something more than the street life, which was a happy home, family and real love, Ramsey.”

They stared at each other for a few seconds before she turned away.

“Cash, can you promise me somethin’?”

  “What’s that?”

“That if I get booked, that you will be in my corner no matter how much time I get and if I die, that you will let my daughter know who I was and how much I loved her.”

Cashmere looked in his eyes to see if he was serious and he was.

  “Yes Ramsey. I promise.”

Pulling her close to him, he kissed her lips passionately before hugging her. He grabbed her hand leading her to the front door and kissed her again before he left and returned to the hall to pick up his mother. Renee kissed everyone good-bye before jumping in the car and heading home. Ramsey ignored his mother as she rambled on about how nice the party was. He thought about what he asked Cashmere to promise him as he searched for a reason why but he couldn’t find one. The closer he got to his house, the more he began to feel uneasy.

As he approached his house, he was confused as to why there were two police cars parked in front of his house with their lights flashing. Pulling into the driveway, he jumped out of the car with engine still running and Renee followed suit.

“Excuse me? What the hell is goin’ on here?” He approached the two officers standing in front of his door.

“And who are you?” the young black officer asked.

“I’m the owner of this house.”

  “You’re Ramsey Miller?”

  “Yeah.”

“The victim you assaulted told us that you had drugs stashed in your house. We have a warrant to search your home.”

“What the fuck you mean the victim I assaulted? I didn't assault no damn body! And as far as the drugs, my house is the fuck clean!”

“We’ll see in a minute but in the meantime, I’m going to have to arrest you for the assault of Baylynn Hansberry.” The young officer unhooked the cuffs from his belt and walked towards Ramsey.

“Hold up one damn minute! My son hasn’t seen that hoe in months! What the fuck did she tell y’all?”

The officers ignored Renee and proceeded to arrest her son but he wouldn't cooperate. The young black officer called his partner over to help arrest Ramsey but he wasn't going down without a fight. He punched the young black officer and his partner in the face before he was hit in his back with a blackjack, which caused him to fall to the ground. The young black officer quickly handcuffed him and his partner assisted him with putting him in the back of the cop car. He struggled to get free but the more he struggled, the tighter the cuffs got. Laying his head back on the chair, he tried to process all the bull shit that was going down. The mention of Baylynn’s name sent him into a rage as he thought about all the possible things she could have told the cops.

As he watched the cops from the back seat of the cop car, Ramsey saw an officer carrying a duffle bag out of the house. The young black officer hopped behind the wheel of the cop car while his partner got in on the passenger side. As the cop pulled off, he saw the officer carrying the duffle bag pull out a brick of cocaine. He cursed under his breath and his anger began to build as the reality of the situation sunk in. Baylynn set him up and only one thing that occupied his mind was how he was going to kill her when he caught her.

Once Ramsey was gone, Cashmere walked into the kitchen and removed a wine glass from the cabinet and a bottle of cranberry juice from the fridge. She filled her glass to brim and sipped it down before carrying the bottle and the glass with her to the living room with her. Since she couldn't drink because of her pregnancy, Cashmere would fill her wine glass with juice and imagined it was real wine she was drinking. The apartment was quiet as she sipped her imaginary wine and thought about the conversation she had with Ramsey.

Cashmere couldn't recall Ramsey making her promise to anything and the promise he asked her to make that night, scared her. Even though she wasn't fully aware of Ramsey’s activities, she never thought that he would be killed or put in jail behind it. Cashmere knew that he was smart and he wouldn't allow himself to get caught up. So, she really had nothing to worry about but if something were to happen to the man she loved, Cashmere would keep the promise that she made to him.

As Cashmere continued to sip her juice, a text came through on her phone from Ryan telling her to open the door and she did. Ryan and Tamia came in carrying pans of food and they placed them in the kitchen. When they noticed the wine glass full of juice, Ryan and Tamia grabbed some wine glasses joining Cashmere on the couch. After their glasses were filled, the three of them sipped their cranberry juice quietly until Ryan broke the silence moments later.

“That was a nice little party for Cassi, Cash.”

“Yeah, it was. She seemed to enjoy herself,” Tamia added.

“Thanks. I can’t believe she’s one already.” Cash shook her head before sipping from her glass. “She’s growing up too fast for me.”

“You do know they don't stay babies forever,” Ryan chuckled.”

“Yeah. I know but that doesn’t mean I have to like it,” Cash stated making them laugh.

Cashmere’s phone chimed again and she snatched her phone off the coffee table to check it. She rolled her eyes when she saw it was from Darren.

“Is that Ramsey texting you?” Tamia smiled.

“No. It’s Darren.” Cash answered dryly.

“Y’all were cool a few weeks ago. What happened?” Ryan asked.

“The day I came to the gathering at Ramsey’s, Darren came to my store and brought me something to eat. I told him about my pregnancy and how I wanted to work things out with Ramsey, he went off on me. He called me stupid because I wanted to give Ramsey another chance but before I could cuss his ass out, Ramsey walked in and Darren left.”

“How the hell is he going to be mad because you want to work things out with your baby daddy? That nigga got some nerve.” Ryan angrily expressed.

“I’m not tripping on Darren. I just want him to stay away from me,” Cash sighed. “I just want to focus on making things right with my baby so we can finally be a family.”

The women talked for another hour or so before they decided to call it a night. The women said their good-byes and Cashmere locked the door behind them. Clearing the glasses from the table, Cashmere put the juice back in the fridge before she walked to the bathroom and ran the water for her shower. After checking on Cassi and her phone to see if she had any other messages besides Darren, Cashmere undressed and got in the shower. She let the warm water massage her body before pouring her Dove body wash on her rag and washing her body multiple times. After rinsing the soap off her body, Cashmere turned the water off and wrapped a towel around her.

Cashmere walked into her bedroom and grabbed a pair of pajamas from her drawer and put them on once she dried off. Turning on the TV, she climbed in bed and surf through the channels until she came across Good Times, which was her favorite oldies show. Thoughts of Ramsey entered her mind as she continued to watch TV. She missed how they would watch television together as they talked about whatever came to mind. Cashmere couldn't deny that she missed Ramsey and she only hopped that they would get back on track soon.

Cashmere picked up her phone to call Ramsey but before she could, a call came through from Ryan and she answered quickly.

  “What’s going on, girl?”

“I just got off the phone with my mother and she said that Ramsey was arrested.”

“What the fuck? Arrested for what?”

“We don't know all the charges yet. My mom told me that the cops were at his house when they pulled up and they accused him of assaulting Baylynn which is some bullshit. She also told me that the cops found a duffle bag full of c
ocaine in his house and I know my brother wouldn't do no shit like that. I think that bitch set my brother up.”

“I can’t believe this shit! Ramsey can’t go to jail, Ryan. He just can’t! We’re about to have another child. What the hell am I supposed to do without him here with me?” Cash rambled.

“Cash, girl, just calm down. Okay? Trust me when I tell you that we’re going to get to the bottom of this. My mother and brother are at the precinct now trying to find out what’s going on. I’m going to keep you posted about what’s going on but in the meantime, I just want you to stay calm and try not to worry.”

  “I’ll try.”

When the call ended, Cashmere couldn't stop the tears from streaming down her face. She couldn't believe that Ramsey had actually been arrested but the shit that they arrested him for was more disturbing than that. Cashmere knew that Ramsey wouldn't have drugs at his house because that was a rookie mistake and he’d been in the streets for years and Ramsey wasn’t the type of man that put his hands on women. So, all of these accusations weren’t adding up but the one thing that did make sense was the fact that Baylynn’s name was in the mix of all of this. Cashmere couldn't stand her ass before and knowing that she might be the cause of Ramsey’s arrest turned her dislike for Baylynn into hate. Cashmere wasn't the violent type but the next time she came across Baylynn, she had an ass whooping with her name on it.

After spending a couple of days in the hospital, Baylynn was relieved when her doctor told that she would be released. She was going home with a bruised face and fractured wrist but that was cool with her because her mission was accomplished. The day after she came to the hospital, the police informed Baylynn that her attacker had been taken into custody and they thanked her for the information she had given them. She was satisfied with the outcome of her stunt and was happy that Ramsey would be in jail for a while.
