Hybrid's Love

Rising from the bed, Wren shrugged into the clothes she’d retrieved and pulled the VID file from the wall unit. She hid it above the door, placing it flat on the small ledge that surrounded it. Stepping out into the corridor, she headed for helm. Lexian and Kyr were already there. She wanted them for a moment, noting how well they worked together, the ease and comfort they had with one another. Just looking at them made her mouth go dry.
“We need to change course,” she said.
“Is there a problem?” Kyr asked.
“We’re going in the wrong direction... Lexian’s mate is on Ralfar,” she said.
Lexian’s jaw tightened. “Ralfar is desolate and brutal. She may not even be alive.”
“She’s alive. I can feel her.”
“How, Wren?” Kyr asked.
The knowledge was there, somehow unlocked in her mind along with all of her memories. “Because that’s what I was created to do. Telepathy is a byproduct, Kyr, for my true purpose. I was to be a locator for all the Sentinels. That is why the Commander had me taken to Earth, as far from the rest of you as possible.... We need to hurry, Lexian. She needs us. She needs you.”
Lexian entered new coordinates into the ship’s navigation system. “And you’re certain she is my mate?”
Wren smiled. “I’m certain of everything now. And yes.... Avony was always intended for you. She was my best friend.”
Kyr took her in his arms then, sensing her sadness. “We will find them, Wren. We will find them all.”
Wren allowed him to hold her, to give her the comfort that she so desperately needed. The knowledge that infused her was filled with ugly truths and horrible realizations. They had all suffered, and it was time for each of them to have what she had found with Kyr, someone to love and support them, to cherish and protect them. However it had come to be, it was still the most perfect thing she’d ever known in her life.
“I love you,” she said, softly.
“And I love you,” he whispered, his voice a gentle breath against her ear.
She smiled into the warmth of his chest and thanked the stars that he had found her and claimed her. Nothing could have ever prepared her for the wonder that was a hybrid’s love.
