Capturing a Renegade's Heart

Neve panted, “I need to push,” she growled and then proceeded to push. The midwife pulled back the sheet that Ryder had made sure had so far stayed in place. He glanced at Griff who smirked back at Ryder’s obvious discomfort to having him in the room. He’d been just as surprised when Neve had asked him but he’d felt a sense of pride. He loved his niece, Harlee, and his nephew, Alfie, but this baby was going to be special, this one he’d been a huge part of and he loved Neve for giving him that.

“You stay up this end,” warned Ryder. Griff saluted him, laughing.

“Both of you stay this end,” growled Neve, grabbing Ryder by the arm and pulling him towards her as she screamed through another contraction.

“One more push and this baby will be here,” warned the midwife.

“That was quick Siren,” said Griff, glancing at Neve’s parted legs.

“Eyes,” growled Ryder, “Eyes up here.”

“Chill Ryder, I don’t want to look at your wife’s butchered vagina,” he grinned.

Suddenly, a babies cry filled the room and Ryder watched the midwife lift a screaming bundle, and place it on Neve’s chest. “Congratulations, you have a baby boy,” she announced. “And,” she added, looking at her watch, “It’s the first baby of the year for this hospital, it’s twelve-o-nine in the morning.”

“Happy new year man,” grinned Griff, slapping Ryder on the shoulder, “You have another boy.”

Ryder was too entranced at the beautiful scene before him. Neve was a natural, she had his son at her breast already and he was feeding away like a pro. “You did amazing Neve, you’re like a warrior or something,” continued Griff.

“Amazing,” mumbled Ryder, lost for words.

Neve smiled up at him, he committed that picture to memory, her smiling and his son feeding from her. “So, names?” she asked.

She’d let the guys argue the names out, she could think of plenty girl’s names but struggled with the boys and so she’d made a deal, if it was a boy, they could choose.

The brothers exchanged a look and Ryder smiled, “Diesel.”

“Really?” asked Neve, screwing up her face, “You want to call him Diesel, this precious tiny baby, it sounds like a dog’s name.”

“You said we could choose,” shrugged Griff.

“Diesel,” she repeated, looking down at her baby boy. “Sorry Diesel, I should have thought it through better, but on the plus side, no one will bully you because you have loads of big uncles to protect you.”

“This kid will kick ass, he won’t need protection.” Ryder had been waiting patiently for Diesel to stop feeding and the second he did, he took him from Neve and held him to his chest. She smiled lovingly at the pair, her eyes drifting closed every so often. “You did good mama. You handled that like a badass,” said Ryder placing a kiss on Neve’s head. “I love you so much.”

“I love you too. Happy new year baby,” she mumbled.
