Invisible Me Page 8

by Chrissie Keighery

It’s time to go to school. We get up from the bench. Hazel does a detour to check out Leo’s graffiti on the wall.

‘Hey, over here,’ she calls. We backtrack over to the graffiti wall.

‘Check this out,’ Hazel says, pointing. There’s a lot of graffiti up there. It’s a while before I see it, next to Alec’s picture of Barney. It’s Cricket! I know as soon as I see it. He’s captured the way she often has one ear up and one down. She’s leaping in the air, and under her is a caption: You make my heart leap!

He’s done it just for me. Without me even trying, without me being somebody other than who I really am. Which makes it feel even more like a gift.

‘Looks like there’s a new graffiti artist around here,’ Hazel says.

They all look at me, grinning. We link arms. The four of us. And we’re still linking arms when we walk into the school gates. Together.

I Heart You, Archie de Souza

Edi lives a weird double life. At school it seems like everyone loves her, but at home her parents barely notice she exists – except when her marks aren’t good enough.

So when Edi hooks up with her crush Archie, she can hardly believe her luck. Archie is super cute, and his family are warm and welcoming. Edi wants to spend every waking minute with Archie, even if it means letting her friends and schoolwork slide. But does Archie feel the same way?

  How To Boost Your Profile

Anya needs some serious cheering up. She’s been dumped by a nerd, her parents are splitting up, and her mum’s idea of a first bra is going to ruin her life!

But then Anya discovers a way to get what she wants. Yes, it’s against the rules, but surely she bend them, just to give herself a boost? It’s not like she’s hurting anyone ….

  Waiting For It

When the boys at school put up a list of the hottest girls in her year, Hazel is ranked halfway down. It figures. Even on something as stupid as a hot list, Hazel is stuck in the middle.

She’s sick of being nearly-but-not-quite grown-up, kind-of popular, almost good-looking. And she’s sick of waiting for things to change. It’s time to take matters into her own hands!

  It’s Not Me, It’s You

Erin doesn’t know exactly when it happened, but it happened. Boys started being boyfriends. Girls started wearing make-up to school. And her big sister started keeping secrets about her love-life.

It seems like everyone is changing around Erin, and yet she’s still the same. She’s fine doing her own thing, but she never thought she’d be deliberately left out. How can Erin grow up and just be herself?

  Things I Don’t Know

Leni doesn’t understand her friends or family at all. Why does Anya want to start a dumb kissing competition? Why won’t her grandmother quit smoking? And why is her athletics buddy Adam acting like a big weirdo around her?

The Leni meets Jo … the new girl at school. She's cool and fun, and totally on Leni's wavelength. But as their friendship grows, Leni finds she has questions about Jo too. Or maybe they are questions about herself. Whatever it is, she doesn't know the answers!
