Shadow's Dilemma (Wild Kings MC: Dander Falls Book 4)

“I love it! I love Dylan’s room too. You did such a good job, babe,” I tell him, wrapping my arms around his neck and pulling his head down to mine. “How about you show me our room?” I ask against his lips before kissing him.
Shadow doesn’t break the kiss as he picks me up and carries me down the hall to the last door. I don’t give a shit what the room looks like right now. The only thing I care about is getting to the bed; if there’s one in the room. I don’t have to wonder very long as I feel a soft landing when Shadow leans down.
“Gonna be hard and fast,” he says, reminding me that we have to get back to the clubhouse for Dylan.
I nod my head and reach down to undo his belt. After undoing his jeans and lowering them just enough to free his hard cock, I struggle out of the leggings I threw on this morning. Shadow helps me get them off before making sure that I’m wet. He runs his fingers through my already wet center before leaning down and taking my mouth again.
Once he’s satisfied that I’m wet enough for him, he doesn’t waste any time entering me. In one thrust, he’s in me and giving me only a second to adjust to him. Instead of starting out slow like usual, Shadow sets a punishing pace. He said hard and fast and that’s what I’m getting. I love it though.
It doesn’t take long before I feel my body tense up as my orgasm begins to build in my body. Shadow starts shaking with not only the impact of his body meeting mine, but the closeness to his release. Reaching between us, he pinches and rubs my clit so that I can reach that magical cliff before he does. There’s no warning as my orgasm reaches the end of its build-up and explodes. My body goes tight and I scream out.
“James!” comes out on a yell as wave after wave crashes over me.
Shadow quickly follows me over the edge. With a roar, I feel his body still before he slumps down over me. Rolling us to the side, he rubs my back as we both try to catch our breath and come down from our release. I rub my hand up and down his side at the same time.
“I’m sorry it was so fast,” he says, standing up and pulling his pants up. “Are you okay?”
“I’m great!” I answer, standing up after taking his outstretched hand. “What are the plans now?”
“I figured we’d go get Dylan, go shopping for some food and other essentials before coming back here and spending a quiet night in our new home,” he answers, wrapping an arm around my waist before leading me out of the house.
Shadow puts a code in the alarm system, making sure that I watch him. It won’t be hard to remember considering its Dylan’s birthday. When we get to the clubhouse and inform the girls what’s happening, they decide that it needs to be a club trip. Including Wild Wilma who showed up while we were gone. Harley’s reasoning is that we can get everything we need before going home. I see her point in not having to make multiple trips to the store, but I don’t want them to feel like they have to go with us. But it looks like that’s a fight I’m not going to win as everyone leaves the clubhouse and pulls into different trucks and SUVs. The only one not going is Wayne who’s still watching over Jennifer.
Shadow
Well, I wanted to go to the store and have a quiet night at home. Instead, everyone went with us and we bought a ton more than what I intended on buying right now. It’s not that I don’t have the money to buy it all, but I wanted to do this as a family. Yeah, everyone in the club is my family, but I wanted it to be the three of us. I should’ve realized that when it comes to shopping the girls will look for any excuse to go.
We’ve gotten everything we could need and now everyone is making trip after trip from the vehicles to unload everything. The girls are directing traffic while Renee puts the kitchen together. Darcy is helping her put food and dishes away while Wilma is making sure that everything is washed. She’s even managed to get a load going with all the towels and stuff we bought. I don’t know how that lady finds the energy to accomplish everything she does in such a short amount of time. Honestly, I’m grateful to them all. And to show them we appreciate their help, Renee got everything we’ll need for a cookout.
So, I find myself outside at the grill with Gage and Steel as soon as the trucks and SUVs are unloaded. We’ve got cold beer in our hands, the kids are playing with the new toys and swing set that I made sure was set up, and the girls are doing their thing in the house. Soon, we’ll have the food on the table so that the rest of the night is for Renee, Dylan, and me. That’s what I’m waiting for.
“Sorry to crash your day, Shadow,” Gage says, taking a sip of his beer before flipping the burgers and hotdogs on the grill.
“It’s all good. Renee had a good time and Dylan loves playin’ with the other kids. Now, we can spend the next few days gettin’ everythin’ where it goes and be done with the house,” I respond, taking a seat in one of the chairs I bought for out here.
“I see Pops got you the nursery set,” Steel says, taking a gulp of his beer. “He know it’s goin’ to be used sooner than you thought?”
“No. I haven’t had a chance to call him yet. I’ll do that later on when we’re alone. I’m sure Alice will wanna talk to Doc,” I answer, standing up so that I can help Gage get the meat off the grill and wrangle the kids inside.
Everyone’s eaten, the dishes are cleaned and food put away, Renee has Dylan upstairs taking his bath, and I’m walking the last of our guests out. After we ate, I walked Gage and Riley over to the house behind ours and they fell in love with it. They’ll end up moving in there at some point. He did talk to me about building more houses inside the compound so that there’s room for everyone. We’ll end up being like the club in Clifton Falls as far as all the members having houses right there. I think it’s a good idea. The houses that they have now, we can use for the domestic violence program.
Now, it’s time for Renee and I to relax. Dylan is more than ready for bed. He’s been cranky for the last hour. It won’t be long before he’s passed out in his new room so that we can go to bed. Instead of looking forward to sitting down and watching a movie with my girl, I’m ready to head to bed. Tomorrow’s going to be another long ass day for both of us. So, I walk through the house and make sure that everything is locked up before setting the alarm.
Walking in the bedroom, I stop dead in my tracks as I see Renee sleeping already. She’s not even fully on the damn bed. Her clothes are on with wet spots from our son playing in the tub, and I know she’s going to wake up sore. So, I gently pick her up and put her to bed. As soon as I strip down, I pull the blanket from the bottom of the bed over us and bring Renee closer to me. Wrapping my arms around her, I whisper that I love her, and let sleep claim me.
Chapter Eleven
Renee
I’M BACK IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM AFTER spending the last week on the maternity floor. I missed the fast pace while I was up there, but it’s good to be there and help bring a new life into the world after all the heartbreak and pain you see in the ER. At this point, I think I’ll be switching back and forth every week. That will be an adjustment. But I love my job and I’ll go wherever I’m needed.
Today has been pretty slow with just a few rooms currently occupied. Just as I go to take my lunch break, an ambulance pulls in that I didn’t realize was coming in. Instead of lunch, I rush to one of the empty rooms and try to make the necessary preparations as I listen to the EMTs describing the patient’s condition.
Apparently, it’s a young female that has been badly assaulted. A little boy is sitting with the cops that followed the ambulance in. my back is to the stretcher that’s wheeled into the room, so I don’t see who the patient is at first. The EMTs are currently calling her Jane Doe. Turning around from gathering the supplies to start an IV, I gasp and almost drop everything in my hands. Doctor Montgomery looks at me and asks if I’m okay.
“That’s not a Jane Doe. Where’s the little boy?” I question, needing to know that Wade is okay. He’s just a fucking baby!
“Do you know this woman?” the doctor I’m working with asks.
“Yes
, I do. She’s living in one of the domestic violence houses that the Wild Kings have. Please, tell me where Jennifer’s son is. I have people that will pick him up and take care of him while she’s in here,” I plead with the EMTs and lone police officer that followed them in. “Do you know what happened to her?”
“She was shopping and the young man that was with her went to the bathroom. By the time he came out, she had been attacked just outside the store. We’re not sure who did this to her just yet, but that will come when she wakes up,” the police officer tells me. “As far as her son goes, do you know who his father is? He’s going to have to go to a family member until she wakes up and is able to care for him again.”
“No, I don’t,” I respond as my heart breaks that Wade is most likely going to go into foster care while Jennifer is in the hospital. “Please, let me talk to child services or something. I’ll take her son into my care if at all possible.”
“We’ll see what happens. Mrs. Copeland has been called and is on her way here now,” the cop responds, jotting down some notes in the pad he’s removed from his coat pocket.
Doctor Montgomery gives me instructions to go make sure that Wade is okay while he brings Liz into help him. “Make sure that you stay with that little boy as long as you can. Take him in the next room to give him an exam before the caseworker arrives,” he says, knowing Mrs. Copeland. As far as doctors go, he’s one of my favorites to work with because he truly cares what happens to the patients he sees.
“Yes sir. Thank you,” I reply, knowing that this isn’t the usual protocol. “I’m going to have to make a phone call too. I have to let the Wild Kings know what’s happened since they were in their care.”
Doctor Montgomery nods his head as he continues to work on Jennifer. Liz passes me in the hallway and tells me that she kept the next room available for the baby. I walk to the nurse’s station and see a police officer trying to calm a very upset Wade. He’s not even a year old and has been through a lot in his young life. Jennifer has been doing an amazing job with him and done everything in her power to make sure that he has food and a roof over his head. Since moving into the Wild Kings house, she’s gone back to school to finish her accounting degree. I’m extremely proud of her and can’t wait to see where her life takes her.
Pulling out my phone as I get to the officer holding Wade, I tell him to take him into the exam room next to Jennifer. He nods to me and begins making his way there. I make the phone call to Shadow so that I can let him know what’s going on. And to tell him that I volunteered to take Wade on if Mrs. Copeland will allow it.
“Hey Doc, everythin’ okay?” he asks, picking up immediately.
“No, it’s not. Jennifer was just brought in. She’s beaten pretty bad and I’m getting ready to do an exam on Wade. Shadow, I told the officer that we would take him if they couldn’t find any family. I’ve never heard her mention any. That little guy can’t go into the system, so she has to fight like hell to get him back when she leaves here,” I say, letting how upset I am show in my voice.
“Okay baby. I’m leavin’ the job site now. I’ll let Gage and everyone else know what’s goin’ on. Where’s Wayne?” he asks, as I hear movement on his end of the line.
“I don’t know. I haven’t seen him yet, but I don’t have time to go out and look. I need to get in there with Wade. The doctor on duty wants me to stay with him as long as possible,” I inform him, as I begin to walk toward the room, he’s in.
“Okay. I’ll find out as much as I can and be there soon. Love you, Doc,” he says before hanging up.
Walking in the room, I see the officer holding Wade against his chest. The baby has finally calmed down and is starting to fall asleep. I hate to wake him up to do an exam on him, but we need to make sure that he wasn’t harmed in the attack on his mom.
“Thank you,” I say, walking up and taking Wade from the officer. “I assume that you’ll be in here with me until Mrs. Copeland arrives. Just sit in the chair while I exam him please.”
The cop nods his head and sits back farther in the chair. It’s almost unnerving the way that he watches me work. But I know that he has to make sure that I’m not hurting the baby under my care. As I complete a full exam on Wade, I find that no injuries were made to him. Everything happened to his poor mama.
“We meet again Miss Jackson,” Mrs. Copeland says, walking into the room after a quick knock on the door. “How is the little guy here?”
“He’s fine. Nothing was done to him in the attack on his mom,” I respond, continuing to hold the baby in my arms.
“I’ve talked to the officer that was in with her. She’s down for imaging right now to make sure that there’s no internal injuries. I’ll let Dr. Montgomery fill you in on her injuries when all the testing is done. Now, he did inform me that you’re willing to take Wade in until she can be released from the hospital,” she says, pulling a folder out of her bag and sitting down.
“Yes, I did. My boyfriend is on his way here now. I’m not sure if you’re aware but Steel helped her out of a bad situation and they’ve been living in one of their houses ever since. She’s been doing really good and has even started going back to school,” I say, holding Wade just a little bit closer to me in an act of protection.
“I am aware of everything she’s been doing. I’m not here to take Wade away from her. I just want to make sure he’s in the best place for him until she’s on her feet again. I don’t see a problem with placing him in your care as long as you can take a short leave of absence to be there for him and I can get the judge to sign off on the temporary placement,” she says, making some notes in the file. “I will talk to your boss to arrange any necessary leave that you’ll need and as soon as there’s an update on Jennifer, I’ll head to the courthouse so that I can get right in to the judge. There will be visits to your home and I’ll have to talk to you boyfriend as well.”
“I’ll do whatever it takes,” I say, sitting down on the bed as we wait for any news on Jennifer.
Shadow
After placing the call to Gage, I left the job site and made my way to the hospital. Gage is going to call Wood and Boy Scout, so they know what’s going on and then meet me at the hospital. There’s no doubt in my mind that Renee will do whatever she has to in order to make sure that Wade comes home with us. It’s a good thing the nursery is done and there’s already a crib in there for him to sleep. I’ll be happy to take on the little guy until Jennifer is released. Then, I can guarantee that she’ll be making a move of her own.
Pulling up to the hospital, I see that there’s any empty space right next to Renee’s SUV. As soon as I park, I make my way into the emergency room and tell the desk nurse that I’m looking for Renee. She tells me that she’ll call the room she’s in to see what my girl wants to do. There’s no way I’m not going back there when Renee, Wade, and Jennifer are in the room.
Wayne comes rushing in the waiting room as I wait for the nurse to follow protocol. He doesn’t hesitate as he sees me and rushes forward. I can see the dread and regret on his face and I know what he’s feeling. I’ve been in his position before and it’s not a good place to be.
“I’m so sorry, Shadow. I had to go to the bathroom. But I told Jennifer to stay in the store. I don’t know why she left,” he says, hanging his head down. “How is she?”
“I don’t know anythin’ yet. I got here right before you did. I’m waitin’ to go back to Renee. She’s with Wade,” I answer, looking at the lady sitting before me.
“Is he okay? Tell me they didn’t do anythin’ to that little boy,” he says, picking his head to show the panic on his face.
“As far as I know he’s okay. Jennifer wasn’t awake when they brought her in. As far as I know she’s still down gettin’ testin’ done,’ I tell him, placing a hand on his shoulder to let him know that it’s going to be okay.
Finally, the damn woman behind the counter tells me to go back to the room Renee’s in. I tell Wayne to wait in the waiting room since I
m sure that more guys will be showing up. Especially if Wood and Boy Scout are being called. I can already see the waiting room being filled to capacity with not only the Wild Kings, but the Phantom Bastards as well.
Stopping in the doorway of the room, I see Renee sitting back on the hospital stretcher with Wade sleeping on her chest. There’s a cop and another lady in the room. As soon as they notice me standing there, the lady stands from the chair and asks me to follow her. I’m not sure what this is about, but I’ll find out soon.
“Thank you for coming in Mr. Patrick. I understand that you are with Miss Jackson. She’s said that you two would be willing to take Jennifer’s son home with you. How do you feel about that?” she asks as soon as we get into one of the private rooms the hospital uses for conferences and whatnot.
“I’m more than happy to take Wade home with us. His mother and him have been in our care for a while now. We have more than enough help to take care of both of them,” I answer, taking a seat across from her.
“Well, you do realize that I appreciate what your club does for victims that you come across. Do you have a job outside the club?” she asks, getting right down to business.
“I do. I own a construction company. We have projects lined up for over a year now. And I’ve been workin’ on makin’ sure that more houses are ready for the victims we help. I will do anythin’ you want us to do in order to make sure that Wade doesn’t end up in the system,” I assure her making sure that she knows I’m willing to do what I can.
“That’s good to know. I’ve helped Miss Jackson arrange a leave of absence for the time being. She’ll need to be there for the baby. Are you good with that?” she questions, finally looking up at me.
“Like I said, I’ll do whatever I have to in order to make sure that Wade is with us. Has anyone heard anythin’ about Jennifer?” I ask a question of my own.
