“Adina, once you have confirmed that the mining town is willing to host people Sisera and Caritha have volunteered to help, as well. We need to make the move quickly though because we must seek out Apophis again. Sisera and I will accompany Caritha back and consult with the Alpha. That was a hard blow we took. We need to be better prepared if it happens again and Apophis can help. She may even have an idea on what happened to Raven.”

Amelia sighed. “Well, it should be a simple task to move what is needed. There isn’t much left, and some people won’t be returning. They have already left, we won’t have to worry about finding temporary homes for them.”

Kai watched as Amelia accepted Isabella’s commands. Kai had thought she would put up more resistance. She was clearly disturbed by her daughter running off on again but she was trying hard to not protest against it. And she hadn’t argued tried to continue the argument about where they would live. Kai felt bad for her. It must be hard for a former queen to have to accept her child’s word instead of her own instincts.

“We wish to leave in a few days,” Isabella said sternly. “The dragons will transport whatever gear you need them to. Adina, I suggest you send word to your friends that a pair of dragons will be visiting them, lest we have another incident.

Hamza, you and your men will help mother organize what is left of the village. Any villagers that remain can help you. Mara won’t be a shanty town. We grew too big too fast. The village must be defensible and orderly.”

Hamza nodded. “It will be done. What should we do with the abandoned homes?”

“Destroy them. All new construction in Mara will be controlled by us. It is a hassle, but we’ve seen how dangerous it is to let newcomers go unchecked.”

Kai was a little surprised at the commanding attitude that Isabella was displaying, and from what he could tell by looking around was that everyone else did too. He could not help but feel his chest puff out with pride. She had found her voice and her presence. He could tell she was serious because her scales had taken on a reddish hue. Kai and the others exchanged inquisitive looks and nodding shrugs as they waited for her to continue. Her plan was straight forward enough although it seemed, perhaps, too simple.

“We need to find Raven,” Isabella said, still facing away. “And we can’t do that if we are plagued with disturbances. We must all work together. I know she is alive and I know that we can save her. I don’t know how I know. I just know.”

Isabella turned around and Kai could the tears building up around her eyes. He knew what Raven meant to her. It must have been torture for the young girl to see her protector in that condition. It made him uncomfortable to remember how wild and savage she had looked.

“Kai, you and Jaime need to go to Droll and find Oshri. If anyone is going to have an idea where Raven and Shayla are it is Oshri or the witches. Jaime, you need to ask Oshri and the witches about the magic the Sacred Blood used to defeat us. Bring Oshri back. Kai, follow whatever leads you find.”

Kai nodded. It was a long shot, but what other options did they have? If anyone would know what type of strange magic had happened when the crystals fell it would be Oshri or his witch friends. He would go wherever it took to find Raven. Without Raven he still might be the town drunk back in Shelby. He owed her, and he would do everything in his power to find her and bring her home.

“We won the fight but this does not feel like a victory. Two of our friends have vanished into who knows what and taken who knows where. Caritha lost her bonded, which is more painful than I can even imagine. Many of our friends are dead, although who knows how many of them were actually our friends. We regained our tower but at a great cost. These don’t feel like victories to me. There is a larger battle coming and we are not prepared for it. That is what we can take away and learn from all of this. The next time the Sacred Blood or anyone else who wants to declare themselves our enemy comes calling they will find us better prepared. We will not cower from anyone.”

Kai was enthralled with the young girl, although, Isabella no longer appeared as a young girl. What he now saw before his eyes was something previously unimaginable. The dragon scale now covered most of her visible skin, masking any innocence her face still portrayed. The light reflecting off her scales also gave her a slight glow, which lent her a divine appearance.

Kai put his hand on Rosalie’s leg to steady himself as he lowered one knee to the ground. Isabella gave them a truly noble purpose. They were there to serve the Dragon Princess and so they would.

  Author’s Notes

Thank you for reading Sisera’s Gift 2: SACRED BLOOD the second book in the Sisera’s Gift Trilogy. Look for the third book this summer.

Also coming in May is the second Lyric’s Curse book. Lyric’s Curse is the same world and time as Sisera’s Gift but focuses on other dragons and dragonbloods. In the future, the storylines will merge into one series but for now each storyline deserves its own book. Both series will be trilogies.

For readers of the Hanna Halfblood Series and the Stoneblood Sagas you will start to recognize some of the territories are the same. Actually, all three series share one map and world (The Bloodlands). Hanna Halfblood is set a few years before the other stories but after that they are very close in timeline. In the Stoneblood Series dragons are first sighted in book four. But unlike the more eastern countries, Solotine was a land of giants. Dragons and giants don’t mix well.
