It’s Alyssa: “Heeyy love. I went with the band to their next gig. You totally have to come! Let me know if you need directions.”

  Jewel rolls her eyes.

Jewel: “Not a good idea. Quitting musicians, remember?”

Alyssa: “It’s only an hour away, and you don’t work today!”

What does that have to do with anything?! She knows I don’t want to get involved. Jewel hesitates as she lets out another frustrated sigh.

She knows if I go back I won’t be able to cut the ties to him this time. Why does she do this to me? Jewel punches her pillow as she finishes complaining to herself.

Jewel: “So what? It’s a nice day. I just want to relax.”

Alyssa: “It might be your last chance to see Ash again. He’s been asking about you.”

That makes her heart skip a beat. She holds her phone to her chest and breathes in deeply before giving herself a stern and out loud, “No.”

  Jewel: “And?”

Alyssa: “And I told him that you’d be here.”

  Jewel: “Alyssa, I can’t.”

Alyssa: “C’mon. You owe me a ride home.”

With an annoyed, “Fine,” Jewel responds and tosses her phone across the room.

How in the world Alyssa’s adventures require me to put my own heart on the line, I have no idea. How selfish. With another moment, Jewel pauses and calms herself down.

Being angry and starting a fight with Alyssa won’t do either one of us any good. They’ve been great friends for a long time, and she knows that she should expect this much from Alyssa. As she finally relaxes, she accepts that she needs to be there for her friend.

Or are you just caving in, as usual?

  CHAPTER NINE

Reluctantly, Jewel pulls into the parking lot in front of The Phoenix, the club where Seven Ravens are going to be rocking out tonight. She’s way early. There are only a few other cars around. After Jewel parks, she texts Alyssa and lets her know that she has arrived. By the time Jewel gets to the door, Alyssa lets her in. When Jewel sees her, she’s in a different dress than before. This one is beige and more revealing than the last one. It leaves little to the imagination, but that doesn’t really surprise Jewel.

“I’m so glad you came!” Alyssa and gives Jewel a hug.

Jewel hugs her back, but mostly to be friendly. The expression on her face doesn’t match. Seeing Alyssa brings back a bit of the annoyed feelings from before, but Jewel does her best to dismiss them.

  “Where’d you get the dress?”

“Oh, Vincent got it for me this morning. Come on, they’re doing the soundcheck,” Alyssa says as she grabs Jewel. She drags her through the large pink front door and toward the side of the stage.

“Alyssa, I was wondering. Why wasn’t there a band that opened for them last night? Will there be an opener tonight?” Jewel inquires.

“Actually, I asked Vincent that, too. He said that other bands are pussies and are scared of Seven Ravens. Maybe they have a reputation?”

Jewel can already hear the instruments before she gets onto the floor, but once she’s there she can hear Ash testing out the mics. She can’t help but to be impressed. His voice is raspy and soulful, enough to make her want to melt all over again. Enough to bring back some of the same desires as before, and knowing how he made love to her last time, she has to swallow hard to escape the feelings.

Once the band is satisfied they head off to the dressing room. Jewel and Alyssa follow. This room is just as fancy as the last one, but when they enter, it’s clear that the last band had partied a little too hard and someone had punched a hole through one of the walls. There is fresh plaster covering it, but the rest of the clean-up hasn’t been completed yet, so it stands out from the rest of the wall. This room, like the last one, has a fully stocked refrigerator.

As the band starts to relax, Alyssa gravitates toward the man she slept with last night, Vincent. It doesn’t surprise Jewel. Alyssa likes to get the most out of a man before he inevitably moves on to the next city. The big acts always move on. Alyssa, much like Jewel, is mostly into musicians, but unlike Jewel, Alyssa isn’t very picky.

While Jewel stands back she realizes that the man Alyssa has been with is the lead guitar player, but the rest of the band doesn’t refer to him as Vincent. Instead, they call him Hunt or Huntsman. Jewel can only raise her eyebrow at it. It’s peculiar, but she shrugs it off. It’s not unusual for members of a band to have nicknames.

Once Ash makes his way into the dressing room, his eyes don’t get past Jewel. He immediately comes to her. He grabs her plump behind as he draws in her in for a kiss. He smells like cigarettes and beer, but she can’t help but keep her lips pressed against his until he pulls away.

Shit… she thinks as she takes a deep breath in, trying to get her wits about her. I can’t sleep with him again. I have to stand my ground.

It’ll be difficult because she already knows what a giver he is in bed, but she silently reassures herself that has the willpower to stay away.

For the rest of the time in the dressing room, Ash stays near Jewel. Only occasionally, but with confidence, does he brush his hand across her bosom, or her behind. Each time he does so it sends shivers up Jewel’s spine and she has to bite her tongue. While the banter continues with the rest of the guys, she tries to focus on their words instead of the feelings that Ash elicits.

A few groupie women come in, flirting heavily with the guys. Each time she sees the skinny, slutty women she feels disgust, as if these girls have a total disregard for themselves and others. In a moment of clarity, Jewel reasons with herself that her disgust is probably just due to her recent breakup. Hanging around this band, though, she has to admit that there are more bigger women that get backstage with the Seven Ravens than the other bands she’s hung out with. Usually, she’s just an exception.

While the members of the band are starting to get rowdy with each other, Wolfe walks in. They all stop what they’re doing and they seem to straighten up a bit at his presence. Ash hasn’t left Jewel. Currently, his arm is around her back with his hand on her waist. She can’t help but to think of the night they had. It makes it all the much harder for Jewel to mentally reinforce her need to not sleep with Ash again. While the guys straighten up the young females start to get bored. They begin to play and bicker with each other on the other side of the room.

Just shut up, she thinks to herself. She knows they’re just doing it in a lame attempt to get attention from the men. Sometimes, groupie girls are so obvious.

Jewel turns her attention to Wolfe, who is wearing a biker vest. It has a darkly designed grim reaper on it, which seems familiar. As she looks at it longer, she begins to recognize it from somewhere, but she can’t quite place where. It takes a few moments before it comes to mind, but then it clicks that that she’s seen it on the news before. Then it hits her… she had scrolled passed this same image earlier today while she was Googling Ash Steele!

Jewel glances at Ash, but now he’s busy looking at Wolfe. Occasionally, his hand moves from her waist to her back, then to her breast and back to her waist. Each time it caresses her body she gets goosebumps and a weakness in her knees, letting her know that she may have gotten in over her head once again.

  CHAPTER TEN

After Wolfe gets settled in and has a few beers, he starts to eye all of the women. He walks through the small crowd smacking asses and passing winks around. He’s not quite sure which one he wants, but the women aren’t offended. They just laugh like he’s playing a game and they join in.

Finally, he chooses one of the girls that is about Jewel’s size. She’s the last larger woman left that’s not already preoccupied with a band member.

Now that everyone has their woman, the band starts to get into a discussion about what Jewel can only make sense as nursery rhyme characters and fairy tales, though they talk like they are actually people they know, instead of just fictional characters.

Did they all smoke something be
fore this? she wonders.

They begin to talk about the Three Little Pigs, Sleeping Beauty and even the Frog Prince. They refer to Rapunzel, Snow White, and the Grimms.

She recognizes that one. It’s a known biker gang on the West Coast, the same one she saw on TV with the reference to the Grim Reaper symbol. As time continues on, it becomes much more obvious that they’re talking about women they had slept with in previous cities and people they hang out with. The women were the Rapunzels and Snow Whites, but the band members burst into laughter after referring to several of the women.

The conversation about all the women they’ve slept with starts to make Jewel uncomfortable. Again, as if reading her mind, Ash pulls her over to one of the couches and guides her onto his lap. When she sits down she can’t help but feel her body temperature rise, the same flustered feeling taking over her. There is just something about Ash that gets to her. But sitting with Ash temporarily distracts Jewel from the conversations the other members of the band are having.

That is, until someone gestures towards Ash and calls him “Prince Charming.” The nickname catches Jewel by surprise, but she has to agree.

Jewel continues to have a hard time focusing on their conversation after that because she can feel Ash’s hands around her. There’s no doubt about it; he’s horny. The caressing doesn’t help the warm sensation that’s taking over her body, and she’s getting quite turned on. Her body melts in his hands. It is hard for her to resist him, even just sitting here. His hand reaches up and feels the soft of her boob. He turns it slowly in his hand before she feels the warmth of his hand travelling down to her thigh. From there he strokes the inside of her thigh up and out to her hip, her waist, her stomach and back up to her breasts. It sends a familiar shiver throughout her body.

For a second she closes her eyes, taking in the feeling that is Ash, but after a few moments she realizes what’s going on. As reality sets in, she tries to get Alyssa’s attention. She notices that Alyssa is in the same position with Vincent, and she is too distracted to even notice Jewel.

Soon, Jewel is ignoring the room as she allows her senses to focus on Ash’s hands again. As he is feeling her up she can sense his erection growing under her, despite the denim jeans that are covering it. It turns Jewel on to know that he is turned on by her.

In the next moment, Ash tells everyone to clear the room. They are all taken aback, momentarily surprised, but then they acquiesce and exit anyway.

Once everyone has left Ash moves Jewel from his lap. In a swift motion, he pins her to the couch. It takes her by surprise. Before she has time to get her breath back, he kisses her. The kiss is slow at first, their lips moving over each other like the ocean’s waves lapping at the shore, but as they continue he draws her in, kissing her intently and passionately until she is biting his bottom lip and can feel that he’s ready to ravish her.

Ash begins on her neck, kissing it slowly and teasingly, knowing that he’s building her sensitivity up. Then he begins to suck on it gently and nibble. As he moves up her neck he kisses her jawline, pressing his pelvis against hers, and as he moves further up to nibble on her ear, she begins to squirm from the sensations. The more she squirms, the harder he presses his pelvis against her. In the heat of the moment, she wishes their clothes were already off and that he would just slide into her, but she tries to maintain her patience as she enjoys each wave of desire that washes over her.

For a moment, she comes back to her senses.

You have to stop him. Mmm. Oh. Hm. No. No, you can stop him now. Just…

It’s hard to focus her mind. It’s even harder to convince herself to make him stop. Now she wants it just as badly as he does. As he continues to tease her she gives in to the warmth of their bodies together, the desire building in her. She’s ready to rip his clothes off once again, but as she starts to retaliate she feels his body weight disappear. He’s standing beside the couch, offering her a hand up.

As they stand, he kisses her lips before grabbing her and taking her into the next room. This one isn’t as fancy, but it has a king size bed that Ash confidently throws her onto. He takes articles of clothing off one by one, and helps her out of her own. The warmth of their skin together entices Jewel.

He rubs his firm cock against her entrance, up and down her clit multiple times before she’s trying to pull him inside her. He shakes his head no as his kisses travel down her body. She’s moaning at the warmth and movement of his mouth. She’s squirming and grabbing the bed but he doesn’t quit. He continues to tease her until she’s begging for him to enter her already.

Just as Jewel thinks he’s finally going to let her have it, he stands up.

“I just wanted a taste. Gotta save my energy for the show. Are you going to stick around?”

“Seriously, Ash? Come on, baby, fuck me!”

“I’m good for now. I need to go out there and perform for my fans. I want to save my dessert for later. But I can help you out a little.”

With that, Ash gets down on his knees and pulls Jewel over to the side of the bed. He begins to softly kiss the insides of her thighs while his hands roam up and down her long legs.

Once Ash reaches Jewel’s wet mound he gives her a few deep kisses there, sending her into overdrive.

  “Is that nice, baby?”

“Yes, Ash. More, please. I want you to eat my pussy.”

Before Ash gives her his tongue, he slides a finger inside. His tongue probes her clit softly as his finger presses up into her.

  “Yes, give it to me!”

“You taste amazing, Jewel. Cum for me.”

Ash continues, lightly flicking her clit with his tongue and fucking her with two fingers now. Jewel explodes is an intense orgasm, rocking her hips up and down. Ash can feel her hard contractions squeezing his fingers. Jewel beckons him to join her on the bed.

  CHAPTER ELEVEN

Jewel is still breathing heavily, but lying here with Ash, she can’t get the last couple days out of her head. The band’s excess wealth, their ability to so easily intimidate the club managers, the creepy patch on Wolfe’s vest and the weird nicknames. It just doesn’t add up, and it’s really starting to bug Jewel.

She lets out a sigh and starts to scheme a way to get information from Ash. She can’t be too obvious, but she has to know what she’s getting herself into.

She doesn’t start questioning him right away. She waits, thinking about the best way to ask and how to go about bringing up the topic. As she lies there with him, she enjoys the feeling of their skin touching and him caressing her gently. She can see herself being his only girl after every show. She would watch him on stage and it would turn her on. After it was over he would come to her, and only her.

Don’t get too excited, Jewel. You’re thinking too much. It’s just sex, she reminds herself. At that thought, she’s truly disappointed. She doesn’t want it to be just sex. Not anymore.

“I noticed that Wolfe has a grim reaper patch on his vest... isn’t that for the Grimms? Like the gang?” she blurts out.

“Yeah...” Ash responds as he rubs her shoulder.

“So… is that like the Big Bad Wolf from the fairytale, then? I know the band was talking about a bunch of names like that earlier… you’re Prince Charming, aren’t you?”

Ash stops rubbing her shoulder as she speaks. He’s starting to see where she’s going with this.

“What’s with all the damn questions?” he asks sharply.

Jewel is taken aback by his response. She fumbles over her words as she begins to speak, to provide him with an answer.

“Uh. I mean…” She fails to string a full sentence together at the change of his demeanor.

“Yeah.” He responds angrily, “Look, I’m a member of the Grimms, all right? What do you want from me?” His voice is no longer raspy and soulful, but instead curt and annoyed.

“I got addicted to drugs, real bad. I blew all my money on them.”

  He hesitates.

  “At first it
was just a little here, a little there each time I got a paycheck, but I needed more and more. What I had was never enough. I couldn’t stay away. I was practically living on the damn streets after a while. I didn’t care if I lived or died.”

As Ash speaks, he doesn’t even look at Jewel. He stops touching her. He rolls out of bed to get dressed, the anger still present in his voice.

“I had nothing. I hit rock fucking bottom. Instead of eating I blew money on drugs. Do you know what that shit does to you? I borrowed money from the Grimms, and other people. People that don’t play around.”

Ash shook his head, fully dressed now, standing near the door.

“That’s when Wolfe came looking for me. I owed him a shit ton of money, and he was collecting the debt. Debt-collecting bikers like him aren’t daisies, as I’m sure you can imagine. I couldn’t pay him, and I thought he was going to kill me. But he gave me a choice… I could face the same fate all the other idiots who borrowed and couldn’t pay up... or I could do this. I could join his band. Seven Ravens. Join and pay off my debts that way.”

The words are practically jump out of Ash’s mouth. He shakes his head as he continues.

“Wolfe introduced me to the other Grimms who could play. I could sing, and I was already kinda famous. I got to sing my own songs. Shit, now they’re my brothers. Life isn’t so bad. I’m not eating shit anymore, and I’m clean. I even have a career now. These guys saved my life.”

After listening to Ash speak, Jewel doesn’t know what to say. His anger for her prying slowly dissipates, but she still feels bad. She didn’t know that about him, but running with a gang is a risky business. She just stays silent, not quite ready to look him in the eye.

There is an uncomfortable silence before Ash speaks.

“I want you there tonight.” he says, flipping her a new hotel key from his pocket. “I’ll come back alone, but only for tonight.”
