When Bae's a Boss 2

“Oh, that explains the make-up and the cute outfit. Hmp, I’m glad that boy is finally getting his act together. Let me go get that sweet baby.” She said, heading towards the back.
I stood in the foyer and admired Chelly’s house. Her house always gave me this cozy, at-home feeling and smelt delicious with all the meals she loved to prepare. It was amazing at how well she had everything organized and color coordinated. She had an eye for interior designing, even though she never made a career out of it. It was her who came in and helped me decorate my apartment.
“Mommy!!” Tyreek beamed, running towards me.
“Hey, big man!” I smiled, bending over to pick him up.
“Chile, don’t break your back trying to pick up this solid child.” Chelly laughed.
“Mommy missed you so much!” I kissed him all over the face.
“I miss you too, Mommy…. Where is Daddy?” He asked, looking around.
“Daddy is at home waiting for us.”
“Ok.” He smiled.
“Come give Ma-Chell some sugar before you leave.” Chelly pouted.
“Don’t be sad, Ma-Chell. I be back.” Tyreek sweetly said, before hugging her.
“You will?” Chelly asked, in a child-like voice.
“Yes!” He confirmed, before bursting into a fit of giggles.
“Ok, Ma-Chell gon’ be waiting on you. Be good for mommy.”
“I will.”
“Drive safe nah, Ty, and call me when you get home.”
“I will. Thank you, Ma.”
“Anytime. Send my knucklehead daughter my way. She ain’t been here since I jumped on her ass about having some damn babies!” Chelly sucked her teeth.
“I’ll talk to her.” I laughed, before walking to the car.
After strapping Tyreek in his car seat, we headed home. I was praying we made it home before Jerecho, because I didn’t feel like fighting in front of Tyreek. Looking at my baby through the visor, I watched as he innocently played with his miniature Spider-Man. From his wild hair, bright skin tone, and green eyes, he was a clone of Jerecho. I just prayed that I had the ability to raise him to be a better man than his father.
I breathed a sigh of relief when I made it home and he wasn’t there.
“Where’s Daddy?” Tyreek asked, looking around for Jerecho’s car.
“He probably just stepped out for a bit. We can call him when we get inside.” I replied, feeling guilty for lying to my baby.
Inside the house, Tyreek and I were settled on the couch while I called Jerecho. When the phone went straight to voicemail for the second time, I could see the sad look on Tyreek’s face, and it broke my heart. Tyreek worshiped the ground his father walked on; they had this father-son bond that was stronger than gorilla glue holding a hood chick’s lashes in place.
“Daddy probably got caught up in some work. You want to bake him some cookies for when he comes home?” I said, trying to lighten the mood.
“Yes, Mommy.” He smiled, displaying the mini-gap he had between his two front teeth.
“Then let’s Baker Tyreek.” I said tickling him.
“Ok… mommmy… ok.” He laughed, flaring his little arms in the air. “Mommy?”
“Yes, Tyreek.” I answered, helping him off the couch.
“Why is your hair like that?” He asked, running his fingers through my hair.
“Mommy wanted to try something new. Do you like it?”
“Yes!” He smiled. “You always look pretty mommy.”
“Aww, thank you handsome boy.” I gushed.
“I’m handsome like my daddy.” He blushed.
“Yes you are.” I replied, smiling down at him.
Tyreek was my proud and joy. Despite having him early, I couldn’t imagine my life without him. Every time I looked at his small face, it reminded me of the good times Jerecho and I shared. The memories that I needed to desperately hold on to in hopes that things would return that way.
