Fighting Fate Page 19

by Barbara Speak

I was dreaming about what it would feel like to be intimate with Mike again. How good it felt when he kissed me passionately and didn't have to hold back. How much I loved when he would run his hands all over my body. All of a sudden I woke up only to feel Mike was really kissing up my neck.

"Best way to wake up ever."

He didn't respond. He just continued to turn me on, which wasn't hard to do after the dream I just had. My pain level was finally tolerable enough that I was ready and willing for whatever he had planned.

Mike looked at me with a devil’s grin making me more excited than anything of what was coming. I hoped more than anything it would be me. He slowly slid back down the bed kissing me again, this time on my stomach. Flattening his palms against my skin he lifted my shirt up while his tongue followed. Goose bumps took over my body when I felt his mouth hit the underside of my breast. I missed him this way. We had only had a few chances and they were cut short for one reason or another.

"Are you cold, Daisy? I can warm you up."

His voice was still raspy from sleep which only made it that much sexier. I couldn't respond. Everything in me wanted him to keep going higher. Sure enough, my shirt rose over my breasts, exposing my now very erect nipples. The closer his tongue got to touching one of them, the louder my voice carried until he took the entire thing in his mouth.

  "Oh my God!"

I practically had an orgasm the second his mouth closed around it. He rolled his tongue and then let me go for the sole purpose of torturing me when he blew across it.

  "Mike!"

"You have to calm down. You're bucking and screaming, getting me all worked up and there isn't much more we can do."

  "I need you."

"Please, Daisy, you know we can't. You're just making this that much harder on me."

  I sat straight up.

"I'm making it harder? You just ran your tongue all over my body and then told me we can't. You're the one making this harder."

"I know I did and I shouldn't have." His hands went to his face, rubbing them up and down, only to let them drop seconds later to his lap. "It's just torture. You've been in my bed every night for weeks and all I can think about is to feel you, kiss you, pleasure you. I'm getting weak."

"Okay, maybe we could just use our mouths."

"WHAT? You can't say things like that!"

  "Like what?"

"We can't do anything at all right now and the thought of me in your mouth is more than I can handle. Stop, please!"

He got up and went to brush his teeth. After I heard the water turn off I moved to the edge of the bed and grabbed my brace, strapping it on.

I was almost through the door when Mike turned and grabbed me, forcing me to land on the counter.

"I need you too. What are we going to do?"

"I already told you. You just won't let me say it anymore."

"Tonight. We will find a way tonight. Right now I have to get in the shower and get going. I haven't been to the gym in almost a week."

Mike had a fight coming up he had to train for, so things needed to change whether we wanted it to or not.

  "Tonight it is stud."

"Don't talk like that, it's getting impossible to not want to bend you over and do everything I've been dreaming of."

"Get in the shower, Mike, and make sure its cold water."

He slapped my butt and then let his shorts drop to the floor.

"How do you like it?" He took it in his hand and stroked it. "Does it look good to you?"

"What are you doing and why?"

"Do you like what you see?"

I covered my eyes and yelled, "Stop it!"

"Now you know how it feels for any guy that looks at you. They want it, but can't have it. It's frustrating. More so than I ever thought."

"Are you prepared to break your rule already? Because you know I am."

"Get out! I need to get away from you as soon as I can or I'm going to do things I promised myself we were going to wait for."

"You put me up here, so I guess I'm staying."

I drug my shirt over my breasts and then yawned intentionally as I lifted my arms to pull it off.

"Looks like I can play this game too."

  "That’s it!"

He came over and lifted me off the counter with one hand, tearing my panties off with the other. I was in complete shock. So much so that I couldn't do anything but sit there after he sat me back down and dropped to his knees between my legs. His hands pulled my thighs apart and then his mouth came crashing down on me. I couldn't believe how good it felt. His tongue dove in and then his fingers joined. Once they were inside me, I knew it wasn't going to be long before I came all over his mouth.

"I'm so close. Oh my God, Mike, please don't stop."

He never took me from his mouth but dove his fingers in harder, pressing against the one spot that sent me over the edge. I screamed at the top of my lungs as I contracted continuously.

When he pulled back I was panting, unable to catch my breath more or less say something.

  "Do you feel better now?"

Still unable to respond, I just nodded my head and "Uh huh" came out mumbled.

"Glad I could leave you speechless."

He stood back up and set me down from the counter, not realizing my leg was still weak to have to carry the weight of my whole body. He must have seen me wobble a bit because the next thing I knew he was grabbing on to me.

  "Whoa, hold on there."

  "Thank you."

It was the first thing I was able to say but I wasn't sure I made it clear that I was thanking him for everything.

He held onto me until I was confident I wasn't going to fall over, then gave me a quick kiss.

"I'd do anything for you, girl." He winked. I guess he knew it after all.

  "What about you?"

"Don't worry about me. I gotta get going anyway. Tonight will come soon enough."

I felt bad being the only one who got relief, but I knew that tonight was going to be amazing. I was going to make sure of it.

  ***

I heard a knock at the door several hours after Mike left for the day, knowing it had to be Chris. Before I could get to it I heard the door open and then "Hello".

  "You didn't have to knock."

I was getting around a lot better with the new brace. It allowed me to bend my knee but answering the door wasn't a speedy task being that it was across the house from the living room.

  "What if you were naked?"

"Well first, you didn't waste any time opening the door after you knocked if I was and second, you're gay, it wouldn't matter."

"You want me to see you naked?"

"What? No! I was just saying you wouldn't mind."

He started laughing and said, "You're right about that but Mike would for sure."

  "Good point."

"Are you ready? I need to get to work, I have a few patients ahead of you."

"Yeah, let me grab my bags."

  "Bags?"

"Mike made lunch and a few snacks that I had to promise him I would eat."

  "Are you kidding me?"

I walked over to the counter in the kitchen and grabbed one of the bags holding it up for Chris to see.

  "Does it look like it?"

"My God, you would think the dude never had a girlfriend before."

  "He hasn't."

  "Shut up!"

  "Really, I'm the first."

"Well, that explains a lot. You, poor thing, are getting swallowed up. He's so controlling over you."

  "He just cares."

"A little too much if you ask me."

  "What's that supposed to mean?"

"You might love it now but it will grow old fast. My boyfriend in high school tried that too, it didn't work out too well for us obviously."

"Well, we're different. He is perfect just the way he is."

"Uh huh. You about ready? We need to get going."

He walked over to the co
unter, grabbed my bags for me and then turned to walk out the door, holding it open for me to pass through. He obviously didn't believe me that Mike and I were going to be fine and it bothered me enough to say something.

"You don't think we can make it?"

"I think sometimes when things are too strong they become fragile and can crumble to pieces with just one blow."

I didn't have a comeback to that. He made perfect sense but that wasn't Mike and me. We were as good as it gets in my head.

I walked past him going straight for his car without a word.

"Don't get me wrong, Marissa, I have never seen him this happy and I have you to thank for that."

He opened my car door and waited for me to have a hold of the door before walking away. I sat down and buckled myself in without responding. He still didn't believe in us and it bothered me.

Once he was seated and we were pulling out onto the street he broke the silence.

"Are you mad at me? I didn't mean to upset you. I just want it to work with you guys and I feel like some space will be a good thing once you’re a little better. But that's just my opinion, I'm not God. I can't predict the future."

I remained quiet. I knew he had our best interest at heart but I didn't want to hear any negative side to our situation. Mike and I hadn't had it easy so far but we were stronger now than ever.

"Do I just keep putting my foot in my mouth with you or what? Don't listen to anything I have to say. I talk out of my ass a lot."

I smiled, still looking down at my lap.

"Well, at least I earned a smile."

He patted my leg and then we continued to drive until we got to his office in silence.

After we pulled in, Chris asked me to stay put so he could get my door. I knew I needed to get over it but I guess my fear was that he was right and it didn't sit well with me at all.

My door opened and Chris held out his hand for me to take stopping my train of thought.

"You have to stop moping. Mike will kill me if he knew that I upset you. What can I do to make it right?"

I reached for his hand letting him pull me from the car.

"You didn't do anything wrong. You just said what you feel."

"Honey, I should have kept it to myself. You are amazingly beautiful. Mike has every reason to be scared he could lose you in a minute flat. As long as you can handle that you will be just fine."

"I can and know we will."

"Let's get you inside. I have a patient probably waiting on me already."

When we walked in the door I found Chad sitting at the appointment desk and his wife Kara standing next to him holding their son Alex.

"Look at you! Kate told me what happened. How are you feeling?"

"I'm okay. I can't wait to get this brace off though. How are you guys?"

"We're good. But girl, you know as long as you need help Mike will be spoiling you rotten. Stay that way as long as you can."

"Neither of us can wait until I can chuck this thing."

"I can't believe you two are finally together. I remember back when Kate got married how much you two looked at each other. What the hell took so long?"

Chad sat straight up in his chair.

  "Kara! Leave her alone."

"Don't correct me. You know full well they should have done this years ago. Shit or get off the pot if you ask me."

"Nobody asked you. And watch your mouth around our son."

"Oh, kiss it, Chad. Alex, you know Mommy has a potty mouth don't you?" She tickled his belly making him laugh. "You just can't say what Mommy does until you're a big boy, got it?"

  "Got it, Momma."

Alex was the same age as Brooklyn but his speech was far better than even the twins which worried me. Kara could tell him all she wants that he can't say those words but he was going to be running around screaming “fuck” in no time.

"How are Kate and Tony? I haven't seen anybody since the hospital. To tell you the truth, I can't believe nobody has come to visit."

"You do know Mike wouldn't let them right?"

  "What?"

Chris cleared his throat before he said, "I'm going to start getting ready. I'll see you guys later."

He walked away and then I turned back to Kara.

"Mike told people not to come see me?"

"Kara, don't get in the middle of this."

She set Alex down and gave Chad a dirty look before coming over to me.

"He just wanted time alone with you."

"Don't you think he could have shared this little bit of info with me?"

"Call him. I'm sure he will explain."

I pulled my phone out of my purse and dialed. It rang and rang until he answered, "What's wrong? Is something the matter? I'm on my way."

He didn't give me the chance to say a word before I could hear him walking fast.

  "Stop! I'm fine."

  "Are you sure?"

"Well, not really. Did you tell all of my friends to not come see me?"

  Quiet.

  "Did you?"

  More silence

  "MIKE!"

"Fine. Yes, I did. But only because I didn't want a bunch of people over nonstop and not letting you rest."

"That's no fair and you know it. I should be able to see them. They're like family. You had no right making that call for me."

"We will talk about this later."

"No we will talk about this now. Apologize!"

"For what? Caring about you? Never."

"That wasn't caring. That was pure selfishness. You wanted me to yourself just say it."

"I'm not going to fight with you, Daisy, so stop."

  "Oh, I'll stop."

I hung up. I wanted to throw my phone across the room I was so mad.

  "No apology, huh?"

Kara knew full well he hadn't.

  "Not even close to one."

My phone started to ring but I didn't answer it. Chad looked at me with one eyebrow raised. "You might want to answer that and get it over with."

"I could but I'm not going to."

It stopped only to start again seconds later.

"WHAT?" I lied, okay. He wasn't going to quit calling. I had to answer.

"Listen to me right now. Do not ever hang up on me again. Do you understand?"

  Click.

I brought the phone down onto the desk top and said, "You might want to tell him to stop calling. It will upset your patients."

Chad held up his hands. "I'm not getting in this."

It began to ring again when Kara grabbed the phone and hit answer. "Sorry, I didn't know that you didn't tell her."

"No, she doesn't want to talk to you right now.

"I don't think that would be a good idea either.

"Do what you want, but you know what I think?"

I stood there staring at her as she rolled her eyes but when she pointed to the ground I knew she meant he was coming there. I jerked the phone from her yelling into it, "I'm mad at you and want space. Don't you get that?"

His voice was now low. His temper must have worn down.

"Listen to me, Daisy. I am sorry I made that choice, but I'm not sorry I got that time with you. You need to calm down and don't you ever hang up on me again—"

"Don't tell me what I can and can't do. You can keep your sorry if it comes with strings attached."

"Are you just trying to keep this argument going? I said I was sorry! I'm not going to kiss your ass for days over it."

  "You know what?"

  "What?"

"We're going to have a party tonight. You can do all the cooking and cleaning. I am inviting everyone. My friends, our friends, all of them, and you will do it with a smile."

He stayed quiet. I looked over at Kara and Chad. She was smiling huge while he looked confused.

"Fine! I will be there in three hours to pick you up. Goodbye.

  "Goodbye."

Kara walked over and raised her hands in the air. "That was awesome! Party time!"

I didn't feel awesome. I felt awful, actually. Nothing about yelling and being mad at him made me feel good. He had no right making that decision for me but I knew it came from a good place. And maybe he was right. If Sadie and Heather had their way, they would have camped out at the foot of the bed with me. What kind of time would I have gotten to have with him? The only thing he should have done differently was talked to me about it.

"Kara you can stop celebrating now. Look at her, she's not happy about this."

Chad was right but it would all be fixed tonight. I may have spoken too soon about the party but I promised him tonight would be special and I was determined to make sure it would be.

After Chris saw his morning appointments we worked on my therapy again.

"Your doctor is going to be very impressed with your range of motion all ready. I know I am. You just might end up losing this brace sooner than later."

  "Really? That would be fantastic."

  "Yes, really."

We did a few more stretches before I asked, "So, are you coming to the party tonight?"

"You're really going to hold him to that?"

"Yes, I am. I haven't seen anybody in weeks. This gives us the opportunity to still be together but spend time with all of them too. Win, win. So, are you coming?"

"Yeah, I'll be there, but you might want to tread lightly with him."

  "Chris?"

  "Yes."

"Please stop. I appreciate your advice but can you give it to me when I ask for it?"

He looked shocked and to tell you the truth I was too. It was rude and I could have said it better.

"I'm sorry. That came out wrong."

"No, it didn't. You're right. I have no business telling you how to make a relationship work when I haven't figured it out myself."

  "Let's just change the subject."

"Sounds good to me. So, tell me about school. Has it been hard keeping up on your work since you haven't been to class?"

  "Thank you."

  "For what."

  "Making that easy."

"I wasn't doing that. I really want to know about your grades."

He was smiling and I knew then why Kate and Mike respected him so much. He really was a great guy.

"I bet you do," I said, laughing. "But to answer your question, school has always been easy for me. I'm no genius but I get through it okay."
