“Yeah, so why do you look like he just ran over your dog?”
“I don’t know. I guess I was just willing to take this all at face value, that it was just an offer to do something that kind of helps all of us,” I said, thinking it through at last. He had said he cared about me a lot, maybe even loved me. But in love?
“You realize it’s traditional for the bride and groom to love each other when they decide to get married, right?” Angel said sarcastically. “I mean, at least in this country?”
“I know that,” I said, sighing in frustration. “I just… I hadn’t planned on him loving me—as much as I love him, I mean.”
