“And I guess she forgave you?”

Katie smirked, “Quite vigorously, forgave him.”

  Bria snickered.

  He blushed.

Sadie bit her lip and smiled.

They finished up breakfast, then headed toward Katie’s workroom. They used simple silver rods about an inch in diameter and six inches long, with a diamond set in the end. She had several of them premade and ready to be enchanted. His spell was only three runes. One to set the intent and word for a huge ball lightning, the second word and intent in the rune was for it to split when it hit something into four separate balls to increase the range, then the last word and intent for those four balls would lightning strike any aliens nearby to kill them.

If he used it in a room that was less than fifty feet, it would still work, as the four balls hit the corners and started to kill every alien in the room. Of course, that would be overkill, he doubted he’d find a hundred aliens in one living room. The enchantment would also be worthless once the aliens were done with, the targeting was based off their alien feel to the magic and life.

It only took the two of them about twenty minutes, and they were ready to go hunting.

Bria said, “Can you stop smiling please?”

He laughed, “Not sure that I can. I can focus on the job at hand and not get distracted, but the ridiculous joy is here to stay for a while.”

Katie and he exchanged beaming grins. It really was a joyful and exciting thing for him. He’d never truly loved before, not like he did Katie, and it was… exciting in a way he’d never experienced before.

Bria sighed, “Fine, but it’s disturbing, we are on a hunt you know.”

They were lying down and peaking over the roof’s edge from a house around the block. There were fifty aliens inside of two houses, all female, while the forty males and other sixty females were sprawled out in the two yards, except for a handful of this group which were looting houses about three blocks over. He’d already briefed them all on it, right before Bria took exception to the naked joy on his face.

He really couldn’t stop smiling. He’d tried, but whenever he focused on something else, anything else, it came back subconsciously, so he’d stopped fighting it. Last night had been the best night of his life after all.

“Alright, how do we get them to all stand in the street in formation for us.”

Katie giggled, “They may make it more challenging than that. If you shot your enchantment in the middle of the two houses, would the four balls reach the front and back of both houses?”

He nodded slowly, “Yes. Just barely.”

She said, “Alright, I’m going to take out the ones in the yards, Bria’s going to set the houses on fire, while you activate your spell. The lightning balls should just hang there until they run out of power, so they’ll be striking the ones running out the front and back of the house dead. If they don’t run out, Bria’s fire will kill them when the house burns down around them. Then we’ll hunt down and take care of the last five three blocks over, I’ll do a small spell to take them out.”

He frowned, “Let me, if you wouldn’t mind. That’ll kill the magic left in my bracers, and I can do my first reload of the day?”

  She nodded, “That’s fine.”

She aimed her rod at the fence between the two yards, and then activated the enchantment. A whirlpool of magic was sucked into the device, and fire flared out the end and grew quickly as it flew forward.

“Wow,” he said softly, as the damned thing grew into white hot sun with a six-foot diameter. As soon as it struck the fence, it went straight up about twenty feet, then split into six smaller suns in six different directions, then they all split six more times into thirty six, then all thirty-six split six more times, for a grand total of two hundred and sixteen white hot suns the size of a handball.

Then one hundred of them slammed down onto the hundred alien’s heads, and they exploded with that same intense but highly contained explosions, making sure all that energy went into cooking and melting their heads. The other hundred and sixteen just sort of fizzled out.

She smirked at the look of shock on his face, “I told you to go for overkill.”

Yeah, he had, but not over-overkill, like she had. She’d made hers able to kill a whole group, while he’d gone for just more than half.

It was quite sensational, and he was sure there was alarm in both houses. That’s when Bria set the houses aflame and he activated his enchanted rod. A lightning ball the size of a medicine ball went out, then split into four that raced to the front and back corner of each house. Each one within range of either a front or back door.

The aliens didn’t run out right away, but he imagined they were being overcome by smoke inhalation when they finally tried to break out of the houses. Some poured out the doors, other’s jumped through windows, some from the second story. Every single one of them was killed with a lightning strike to the head as soon as they left the house. The scent of burned and cooked flesh was awful.

  Sadie said, “That was impressive.”

When it was all over, Bria said, “Huh, Katie has bigger balls than you do.”

  He snorted a laugh.

Katie said in amusement, “Let’s go.”

They climbed back in the window from the roof, and they went down to the first floor. The last of the aliens in that group were six blocks away, but with his mile reach and Katie’s even larger detection area for magic they had no trouble finding the bastards. They took cover behind the house next door, and they waited for the five to leave. The five aliens didn’t even see it coming, they were leisurely walking to the next house with bags of loot over their shoulders when he launched the small sized ball lightning spell and took them out.

He took a moment to recharge his bracers.

Sadie said slyly, “She has a bigger stick too.”

Bria laughed so hard she almost fell over, and Sadie put a mock innocent look on her face as she pointed mock innocently at Katie’s six-foot staff.

He let out a long-suffering sigh at the teasing, but he gave Sadie a smile despite himself.

Katie smirked, “Maybe longer, but certainly not wider. What’s next?”

  Sadie giggled.

They were going to kill him. He caught himself reaching out to touch Katie, but that kind of thing could wait until the job was done. He didn’t need to distract her, or himself, despite Bria’s and Sadie’s banter putting his mind in the gutter.

“Umm, similar situation, but they’re all in a much larger house, and a single backyard. There’s also no good vantage point, the place has a large yard, several acres. There’re some bushes I can put us behind. It looks like all hundred and sixty females are in the large house, and the males are in the back yard. The house is much wider than fifty feet, so the same trick won’t work. My spell also wouldn’t last long enough to take out a hundred and sixty females running out.”

Katie asked, “Suggestions? It sounds like we need to be ready with a plan when we get there with no concealment. We can also identify looting groups away from the main group at that time.”

Bria said, “Reverse it, since your spell is better. I’ll set the house on fire while Ryan takes out the fifty in the yard. Once they run out, you hit them with your sunburst spell.”

Katie replied, “Mine kills more, but its immediate in effect. It won’t kill them as they come out like his does, it fizzles if there’s no available targets. If I wait for all of them to clear the house, some could escape before the rest are clear.”

He said, “After taking out the fifty in the back yard, mine will kill up to seventy more as they come running out the back.”

Katie nodded, “Right. You’re going to have to use your spell twice. Once to take out the backyard, then shoot it into the front yard as well. We need to appear along one of the sides of the house, so you have line of sight on both. If we’re lucky, that will get all of them along with Bria’s fire. I can use my rod twice when it makes sense too,
hopefully it will even out.”

He said, “There’s some groups not in houses and on the move, so your spell would kill them all. We can get a couple of groups that way at the end of the day if you still have magic to burn?”

Katie smiled, “Perfect. If too many run in the back, or even out the front, I’ll take down whatever’s left with a smaller personal spell.”

  “Sounds good… Katie.”

He’d almost called her love. He’d have to talk to her about pet names. He’d almost called her baby and gorgeous once or twice already that day as well. He knew she’d enjoy it behind closed doors, but he suspected she’d rather not when they were on a mission. He wasn’t entirely sure though, because usually when that kind of thing annoyed her in her past, the men in question had also been stepping on her authority at the time.

He picked a spot through his bird, “We ready?”

Katie looked around at the three of them, likely to see if they had further input, then nodded at him.

The plan went really well. He activated the enchantment right away, and as the medicine sized lightning ball hit the ground, and exploded into four smaller ones, he turned the rod to the front yard and activated it again. While he did that, the first spell started to cook the alien’s brains and Bria set the house on fire with a blast of magic.

The forty in the backyard died quickly, and the hundred and sixty females ran into his two spells and cooked as soon as they left the house. Almost ninety of them ran out the back door, but before the last nine living aliens could get anywhere Katie used her small sunburst spell to take them out. It was almost too easy, but he didn’t imagine they’d all go so well.

Katie said, “I don’t feel any pulls in the area, or feel any aliens within range of my magic. They must’ve all been in the mansion.”

They moved on after that, and they continued to hunt down the alien beings who didn’t belong on Gaia’s Earth. Those who threatened the balance, and who would try to kill every human they found if left alone to regain their feet. He didn’t feel any guilt at all, and their daily magic limit lasted for twelve groups thanks to his enchanting idea. There were a few challenges, on how to handle things with the least amount of magic use, but they continued to have surprise on their side and didn’t have any other close calls like the night before, thanks to his birds.

There were only thirteen groups of two hundred left when they headed back to Katie’s sanctuary later that early afternoon. They’d moved quickly and decisively, and despite having a lot more day left they were out of magic for the moment.

  Chapter Nine

The bed was comfortable, and Katie’s hot sweaty body pasted against his felt like heaven as his heartbeat slowed. They’d been vigilant and focused all day, but that hadn’t stopped the sexual tension from building up between each other all day. As soon as they’d gotten back in the sanctuary, he’d taken charge of her, and she’d been breathlessly happy about that as he rocked her world and she rocked his.

It was a new relationship, shiny, and he loved her. As a result, he didn’t think he’d ever get enough of her sexy body quivering, and of her beautiful face lost in the throes of ecstasy, or the way sweet sounds of pleasure dropped from her full lips while he pleasured her with mouth, hands, or cock.

He spoke softly, while running little circles on her back with his fingertips, for the moment completely sated. For the moment.

“Pet names. I almost called you love, gorgeous, baby, and beautiful several times today.”

She giggled, “Behind closed doors at home, and in this room, you can call me whatever you want, as long as it isn’t demeaning. And no, baby isn’t demeaning to me. When we’re on a mission I’d prefer my name. I probably wouldn’t mind in front of Bria and Sadie, since they’re friends, but in front of the elven council, others we might work with or visit, it could be… unprofessional. I’m worried if you get used to using a pet name in the field you might slip in other company.”

  “Anything?”

  She giggled, “Not degrading.”

“So, my sexy vixen goddess of pleasure and love works?”

She snickered, “It’s a bit of a mouthful, but if you say it with love it’ll make my heart melt. You should know that.”

He nodded, “I do, but I wasn’t sure about the field. I’ll stick to when we’re at home, how about dates though. Can I introduce you as my sexy vixen goddess of pleasure and love at a party?”

Katie whapped his chest as she giggled, and he swatted her ass firmly.

She wiggled up against him and let out a contented sigh, “Goddess, you do everything perfect, it’s not fair.”

He grinned. He knew just how hard to spank her to turn her on, so the sting and heat was delicious and not on the wrong side of the pleasure and pain threshold. She didn’t like it rough at all, just a tiny sting from a firm but not harsh swat was her cup of tea.

He said, “Feel free to explore my body’s reactions, and ask me anything. If I could, I’d let you read me to make things even, love. Plus, I really enjoy the fact I know how to bring you so much pleasure.”

Katie quivered at that endearment, and then kissed his shoulder.

He wasn’t sure what pet name he’d settle on. He kind of liked all of them, except the ridiculously long one, which he was just teasing her with.

Katie nodded, “There’re sorcerous spells that’ll do that, but I’d prefer not to. They can be… addicting.”

He replied, “What do you want to know?”

“What will you do when this is over?”

He asked, “The aliens?” and when he felt her nod, he said, “Well, I have an invitation to study in a great sorceress’s library. She’s also pretty amazing, so I also have plans to woo said sorceress by dragging her off to dates, spoiling her in bed, and earning her love. I’m going to attempt not to smother her with my possessiveness too, so we’ll see how it goes.”

She giggled, “I see, I’ll let you know if I need space to breathe, but right now I’m very content. We should spend some time apart though… just… not at night.”

He grinned, “I can get behind that. I should visit family, and of course I won’t be hounding you while you’re working on magic and learning, and I’ll be doing the same things. Right now is kind of unique I think, since we’re on the same mission and focused on that.”

She nodded, “Don’t worry about it, it will work out, I think. I hope. So, just like that, what else are you going to do besides study? You need more than that, like when you travelled from town to town. I can’t be your whole life.”

He said, “No, I never said you could. Study, time with you, helping you with the balance, we’ll be apart while you’re working in the library, or testing or improving magic, while I… that’s a good question. I can still do what I’ve been doing on some days. But instead of riding between towns I can just teleport there where my animals see a problem, take out the trash, and be home by dinner. That way I’ll continue to do good separate from us, and also keep increasing my life force stash.

“That said, I’m in no hurry to do any of it, at the moment. No more than I see you running for the library right now.”

She smirked, and looked up into his eyes, “Point, we can get a little lost in each other in the beginning, but we still have to live our lives, or at least the higher priority parts. Like hunting aliens, or the balance, or protecting a community on your part. The rest of it can take a backseat for a while.”

He agreed, “I agree, get a little lost in each other, but life or death situations take priority, and the library will be there when we need a breath, when we’re ready to establish a true routine and life balance.”

She giggled, “We’re both worried about the same thing, smothering the other, but I’m pretty sure neither of us should be worried.”

He nuzzled her nose, and then gave her a soft and lingering kiss.

“I don’t know what else I want to do. Improve my magic, help my baby keep the world safe, and continue w
hat I was doing, taking out the trash. I have no ultimate goal past being useful, and in making lives better and safer outside my father’s territory. Visit family, but I may drag my woman along with me when I do that.”

She snickered, “Your woman? Is that what I am?”

He nodded confidently, and nipped her bottom lip, getting a little lost in her warm hazel eyes so close to his.

She blushed, “I suppose I am. That sounds perfect to me. I just wanted to make sure you weren’t going to give up your old life completely, that’s not healthy. I made similar mistakes when I was… younger. But I shouldn’t have presumed you would, or worried about it at all, you’re far more of a man raised in this new world than men ten years older than you acted in the old world.”

He snorted, “Right, so when you were about my age then?”

She asked, “Does that bother you at all?”

He shook his head, “No. Not even a little bit. You’re young, vivacious, and beautiful to me, you always have been, gorgeous. The fact that you’re also wise and experienced is just a bonus. My only worry that way was what I could offer you, but I’m over that already. Love, companionship, passion in magic, and more.”

She blushed, “I still don’t feel wise, but you’re right, you do bring a lot to the table, both shallow and deep.”

He nodded, “I know you are wise, which is all that counts, what else do you want to know. Before I love you again and take you to dinner.”

She raised an eyebrow at his presumption, but he was almost positive she was just testing him or teasing.

He swatted her ass firmly, “You’re mine until you say otherwise, my love. Especially in this room.”

The look of lust his swat and bold confident statement put on her face blew his mind. She really was his, now all he had to do was be himself and not fuck up, so she’d fall for him.

She whispered, “Why does only your opinion count? Me being wise I mean.”

He smiled, “That’s easy. Because it means I won’t ever make the mistake all the other men in your life have. It’s why I follow your lead so easily, your battle plans, your overall mission. I won’t ever make the mistake of thinking I’m wiser, or you should have to listen to me, even when I do catch up that way I’ll never lose that respect and admiration I feel for what you do, and who you are. You’re also sexy as hell.”
