Oh no, what is he doing? Ari wondered, suddenly afraid. Another wave of nausea washed over her, and she thought for a moment that she might actually be sick everywhere.

  “My fellow countrymen… I am a werewolf.”

Ari could see all the senators that she knew to be vampires and werewolves gasping in shock. The rest of the human attendees sat in silence for a moment, and a small ripple of laughter eventually broke out amongst them. Remy shushed them, and continued to speak.

“This is not a joke. I assure you that my kind are very real.”

With that, his eyes began to glow amber, and Ari’s hand flew to her mouth. What the hell is he doing?

Remy suddenly transformed into a wolf right in front of everyone, proudly displaying his silky grey fur and sharp fangs before returning to his usual human state. The crowd was dead silent, and no one moved.

“I know that you are all deeply shocked and probably disturbed by this, so while you are digesting what you just saw, I’d like to explain why I have chosen to finally reveal the existence of werewolves to the general human public.”

He began to outline the general history of humans, vampires, and werewolves, before moving on to the problems that they had faced at the hands of the vampires, and still faced today. The crowd sat in shock, staring up at him as he spoke, unable to believe what was unfolding in front of their eyes.

“I know that we are not doing enough to fix the problems in the world. It is a very long, hard task, and beginning to fix all of our problems is guaranteed to take a very long time. It might not even happen in my lifetime, though I am trying my damned best to help the situation. I realize that you may not be happy with a werewolf as President, so if need be, I will resign.”

A few people gasped, and Remy continued.

“However, I would beg you to realize how dangerous our world is becoming with all the vampires that are in power now. They want to enslave us, and I will not allow that to happen. I love this country, and the rest of the world. We deserve freedom and equality. With vampires in power, this will never happen.”

He paused for several minutes, allowing the enormous amount of new information to sink in. Ari closed her eyes, knowing that the crowd would soon erupt. What if they hurt him? She was right; seconds later, the crowd began to roar, and she opened her eyes, expecting to see utter pandemonium breaking out around her.

Instead, she realized that the roaring sound was almost every single person in the room standing, clapping and cheering wildly as Remy stood at the podium. The only people still sitting down were all of the vampires, and Ari herself. Damien Xavier’s lips pressed into a defeated grimace as his eyes glowed an angry deep red, and he stalked out of the room, along with the rest of the vampires.

Once the crowd had settled down, Remy smiled and spoke again.

“Thank you for your support. This is not something that I had ever thought would happen. With all the ignorance and intolerance in our world today, I was half-expecting to be chased out of the White House tonight.”

To Ari’s surprise everyone laughed, and he continued.

“While I have everyone’s attention, I’d like to make a special announcement. I have been involved with a beautiful woman for a while now, and I would like to make our relationship public. Ari, please come up here.”

Beth grinned and nudged Ari, and every face in the room turned to her. She felt her face turning pink, and her legs felt like jelly as she rose and slowly walked through the crowd and up onto the raised platform.

“This is Ari Mills,” Remy said. “But I’d like for her to be Ari Armstrong, unless of course, she chooses to keep her own last name.”

What? Ari looked down in shock and realized that Remy was on one knee in front of her, holding out a beautiful ring.

“Will you marry me, Ari?” he asked, his eyes flashing yellow again as he stared up at her.

Ari burst into tears. She couldn’t help it.

“Yes!” she finally managed to choke out.

A wide grin crept across his face.

“For a minute, I thought she was crying because she really didn’t want to marry me,” he said, turning and addressing the crowd. “But that’s a yes, in case you didn’t hear.”

The crowd erupted in wild applause again, and Remy stood up and wrapped his arms around her. Ari felt as if she were being carried away on a cloud of happiness, still half-unable to believe that all of this wasn’t just a dream.

“I love you,” he murmured. “So very much.”

Two months later, everything was finally starting to die down. The public had accepted the existence of werewolves and vampires, and Remy remained as President of the United States. Ari had gone back to working at the White House in her new paid position with Ross and Beth.

Now that their relationship was public, Ari could finally accompany Remy everywhere, and they had spent almost every minute together that they could manage with their busy schedules.

Worldwide, almost every single vampire that had been involved in politics had resigned their position, so Remy’s speech had already begun to help a great deal. The vampires seemed to have realized that they would be in great danger if they retained their powerful positions, now that the world knew their real agenda.

Right now, it was nine o’clock at night, and Ari was admiring the view of the full moon from her kitchen window as Remy cooked dinner.

“You know, I never knew that you could cook,” she said.

“Well, I’m the President. I don’t normally have to. Besides, it’s a lot easier when I have my Secret Service guys out the front. I can just get them to order any ingredients that we’re missing and have them brought straight here.”

“I suppose being the President does have a few perks,” she teased, before affecting a more serious tone.

“Remy, I need to tell you something.”

His eyes twinkled as he stared at her, as if he already knew what she was going to say.

  “What is it?”

“Well… umm… I’m pregnant,” she said, casting her eyes to the floor.

She was uncertain as to what his reaction would be like, but all of her fears were swept away in an instant as he wrapped his arms around her and scooped her up.

“I knew it,” he murmured. “I knew that you were going to tell me that.”

  “How?” she asked.

“Look out of the window. It’s a full moon.”

  “I know. So what?”

He grinned and kissed her forehead before pulling back slightly and staring down at her.

“Do you not remember what I told you? Nothing bad ever happens on a full moon.”
