Catching the Pitch
Reviews
“Catching the Pitch, with its sly double entendre title, has totally captured my two greatest loves: baseball and M/M romance and sex. This is an incredibly well written book that truly gets what it's like to be a minor league baseball player waiting for the magical moment when you're called up to the show, along with falling in love for the first time.”
“…written with both love and knowledge of the game. I follow baseball only casually, but I truly enjoyed the game parts. They are instrumental to the romantic arc development. And the romance takes place in a natural way - even though there are obstacles and conflicts. Neither guy acts stupid, there are no dumb misunderstandings.”
“Left me smiling, which is always a win for me.”

“He never knew what he really needed was a man.”
Eric Steiner is one of the top major league baseball prospects in the country. He was drafted #10 out of college and assigned to an A-level minor league team as a stepping stone to the big leagues. All of the pieces were falling into place except for personal relationships. Eric’s teammates think his most intimate connections are with his catcher’s mitt.
“Why are you sending me to Madison, Wisconsin? Was it something I did?
Sports photographer Theo Bachman is no stranger to the vagabond life. In fact, when he was growing up, he went to eight different schools before high school graduation. Now, he only sets down roots long enough to complete the latest assignment. It could be Toronto, San Francisco, or New York City, but Wisconsin? Theo thinks he’s been demoted to a second class assignment until he meets the Madison Pintails catcher.
When Eric Steiner finds out Theo Bachman has been assigned to him for a sports journalism profile, something about the name rings a distant bell. When the pair finally meet, the connection is electric. Soon they are creating heat in the bedroom and trouble for their careers.

“I felt as though I made some new friends.”
“Hudson was made for Lincoln, he gets the game, is understanding and supportive and no one has to give up their own dreams to be together. This was an awesome read.”
“Declan Rhodes has done an outstanding job of mingling baseball and love, and the main characters Hudson and Linc, will truly engage your heart. Both characters bring out the best in each other, and a moment of tragedy solidifies the growing love that they have for each other, despite their different careers and locations.”

“The perfect game, when it happens, is the only perfect thing in baseball.”
Lincoln Kirby has accomplished nearly everything a major league baseball rookie can hope to accomplish. He even won Rookie of the Year honors. Unfortunately, that one perfect thing, the perfect game, eluded him. He pitched one in high school with his father as coach, and his father hopes to see one in the big leagues. With that weight on his shoulders, Lincoln Kirby returns home at the request of the new coach.
“Those who can’t play, coach.”
It’s a cliche, but for Hudson Wiley, there is some truth. He was always just one step away from real success in baseball. Now he has taken on a high school team with a legacy as its new coach. The team produced the current Rookie of the Year in the major leagues.
“I’m not good at relationships. In fact, they may be my Achilles heel.”
Lincoln Kirby returns home and can’t take his eyes off the new coach. He checks for the ring, and then he checks for more key details. Hudson Wiley is a real prospect, but does he deserve the roller coaster ride of a relationship with Lincoln Kirby?
The Imperfect Game is a 50,000 word steamy romance set in the same world as Catching the Pitch and can easily be read as a standalone. It has a happily ever after ending.

“I have read other romantic stories centered around baseball, but none quite like this. I loved the idea of making one of the guys a student of sabermetrics. As someone who is not a die hard baseball fan it helped me understand sabermetrics a bit better. It makes the story that much more real for me. The developing relationship between the two is so heartfelt and uplifting.”
“While things start heating up between them, Kyle also wants to keep their relationship a secret. He's heard and seen enough negativity to believe that he should keep some things to himself. Seeing how they come to terms with their feelings was emotional and well drawn out by author Declan Rhodes. Sweet and thought-provoking.”
“This is a good story as we have come to expect from Declan Rhodes and it does not disappoint. His characters are well balanced and you can feel their emotions all the way through.”

He is hoping for two or three more years out of his aging arm when a locker room altercation with a homophobic rookie results in an injured shoulder. Intensive physical therapy gets him back to the big leagues, but his performance is only mediocre.
"Sometimes out is the only way up."
Duncan Poole has been solving problems for others through statistical calculations in his head since childhood. After a stellar college career in mathematics, he enters the infant field of sabermetrics helping major league baseball teams by analyzing performance statistics.
After meeting, Duncan agrees to help Kyle and the pair discover there is more than baseball between the rising statistician and the aging pitcher. Romance blossoms, but Duncan rebels against the idea of years in the closet. A deal is struck. He will guide Kyle's comeback season and pursue the romantic relationship if Kyle promises to come out before the season ends.
