Elven Doom (Death Before Dragons Book 4)

I knew I should object to the idea of him bossing around my relatives and forcing them to teach me, but warm magic flowed from his fingers again, making my entire body tingle. I wanted very much to mate with Zav. Or, as we said on Earth, drag him into my bedroom for hot, passionate, illegal-in-seventeen-states sex.
As long as I was with him when he was talking to the elves, I could frame things more diplomatically, couldn’t I? Of course I could. A porcupine flinging quills couldn’t be less diplomatic than a dragon.
“We could look into it,” I said casually, refusing to let him know how much I liked this idea and wanted it to come to pass, and not only for reasons related to horniness. He was already full of himself.
“Yes.” Zav lowered his hand with noticeable reluctance and stepped back. “I must capture more criminals before taking a break, but once I have turned in more than all of my brothers have, we will take a trip and speak to your people.” He glanced toward my shoulder. “You should also see the dwarves and learn about your sword.”
A lump threatened to form in my throat. I knew his primary motivation was wanting to have sex, but he could have used his power to stamp his compulsion on top of any that a lesser species might put on me, which would have prevented me from being a danger to him. But he understood that I didn’t want that, and he actually cared. He wanted to help me become strong enough to fend off enemies on my own.
I clasped his hands and tamped down my tendencies toward sarcasm to say, “You’re an amazing dragon, Zav. I’m glad you’re here on Earth with me.”
“Good.” He nodded firmly. “I will pick you up at your domicile tomorrow, and you will have researched the kelpie and know her location.”
“Really?” This return to the practical brought my sarcasm back out. “You’re giving me an entire night to find our next nemesis?”
“I am.”
“I’m honored to be working with such an understanding and magnanimous partner.”
“As you should be. Few lesser species are blessed with a dragon for an ally.”
“I’ll be ready for you in the morning, but there’s something you need to know.”
“Yes?”
“My superintendent put up a sign in the apartment building requesting information on whoever keeps destroying the chairs on the rooftop deck. He’s talking about installing a camera to catch the culprit on video next time. You may not want to land up there anymore since you can’t fit without squishing things.”
“If the chairs were placed to the side of the landing pad instead of in the middle, they would not be damaged.”
“It’s a deck, not a landing pad.”
“A dragon lands where a dragon wishes.”
Zav inclined his head, then slipped out, and I had a feeling the next batch of deck chairs would end up as flat as the first two. What would my landlord think when the camera revealed the culprit?
