Rise of the Seventh Reich

Both of us were startled when someone knocked on the door. Our little private investigation business was more a front for the family’s daemon hunting. No one actually came to hire us.
Until now.
Into our office walked a blonde lady, adorned in the silver, white, and blue clothing that an Inquisitor from the church would wear. She had no weapons from what I could see and her green eyes had the slight look of fear. Good, I thought.
You should be afraid.
“What does the church want with us?” Radu hissed.
“We signed the treaty, the bloodshed has ended,” I added.
“I would be excommunicated if they knew I was here,” she said, looking all around. “Yet, I had nowhere else to turn.”
There was a slight touch of an accent, but not enough of it stuck out to place it. Oh well, it was New York City, everyone was an immigrant, including me.
“Spit it out,” I snapped.
“I’m here to recruit you on a mission the church has strictly forbidden me to undertake. They do not believe me but the signs are plain to see.”
“And you need us because…”
“Because Nathaniel Brinza, Vlad Dracul walks the Earth once more!”
Neither of us spoke; her words chilled me to the bone. “And that’s not all,” she continued. “Your father, Castor, Vlad is after him. Castor is the key to his entire plan.”
That earned a derisive snort from me. “My father’s dead; your church made sure of that.”
“Nathaniel, let’s hear her out,” Radu said, very seriously.
“Vlad needs Castor, he still carries his powers as the Antichrist. If we don’t find him first, the End of Days will begin,” she said with a shudder.
I knew that about my dad; I didn’t think others had that knowledge. “You come in here flapping your lips about stuff that you have no business with, yet don’t even tell us your name. Where are your manners?”
She bowed her head low. “Many pardons,” she apologized rather regally. “I am Lieutenant Inquisitor Leena Koenig, at your service.”
