Burning Desire Page 21

“You trust me that I have no diseases?”

She looked straight into his eyes. “Yes.”

Holy shit. He hadn’t gone without a condom since Trojan was first a company. He dropped the package and climbed on top of her. “Oh, Babs.”

She smiled up at him and spread her legs. He settled between them and carefully entered her. His eyes rolled to the back of his head. She was warm, wet and wonderful.

  “Oh.”

He stroked in and out. Her body rose up to meet his every time. He nipped at her neck with his fangs. Gently. No need to puncture her. He wanted to mark her. She was his. He didn’t want to think that after his last heartbreak, cut some part of his soul knew it.

She moaned under him and he was close to losing it. For more than three hundred years he’d been able to hold off as long as possible. He was so good at this that God screamed his name. Right now, he was about to come too quickly.

What magic has this woman woven around him?

  Chapter Four

Babs wanted to scream. Well, she probably would ultimately, but somehow this man was keeping her just on the edge of her orgasm. She shifted her hips, but he moved with her.

  “You’re doing it on purpose.”

He looked at her wide-eyed, but she knew he was no innocent soul. “What?”

“You are keeping me just on the edge.”

He smiled and it looked feral. For a moment she thought he had fangs. She blinked. Must be her pre-orgasmic haze. She tightened her grip on him, her nails digging into his back. His eyes bore into her and she could see clear to his soul. It was an old soul for sure.

She didn’t care. She just wanted to come. Then he shifted and he hit that right spot. Oh. My. God.

She screamed as she came. He grunted while he thrusted into her his speed faster than humanly possible. Her body arched and her ovaries sang and it lasted and lasted until she was boneless underneath him.

He rested on his elbow, looking down at her.

  “Holy shit, Elias.”

He smiled. Then he kissed her. With a passion she didn’t think possible after that session of sex. This man was a machine.

He rolled off her and snugged her close to him. His front against her back. How did he move her around like she was a doll? He was taller than any man she’d ever met and stronger.

“You are something else,” she said.

He stiffened. “What do you mean?”

“You carry me up a long flight of steps and just move me around like I weight nothing. I haven’t had that sensation since I was a little girl.”

  “Does it bother you?”

“No, it makes me feel safe. I feel as if nothing can hurt me when I’m in our arms.”

He snugged her tight. “Nothing can hurt you.”

She sighed. Darkness had fallen while they’d been busy. Then she remembered her dinner. “I never cleaned up the kitchen.”

“It can wait a few minutes. I’m not ready to get up.”

“I’m not sure I can get up.”

He chuckled by her ear and it send a thrill through her body. She wasn’t sure how she was still conscious. How was he still conscious? That had been a pretty vigorous session.

“Can I ask you a question?”

  “Sure,” he said.

“What do you do in your lab?”

He let out a breath. “I’d have to show you, but I’m not ready to reveal that yet. Can you trust me to tell you at some point?”

Could she trust him? Her heart was all for it. Her vagina had a positive vote. It was her head that needed convincing. “Okay.”

“Thanks. I promise I’ll tell you. Especially if you tell me who broke your heart?”

“How do you know my heart is broken?”

“Because I can see it in your eyes. You have a sadness that you can’t seem to shake.”

She didn’t know what to say.

  ***

Elias had dodged the bullet of telling her he was a vampire, but that was only temporary. He had to reveal it. Or could he wait. She said she was leaving when her debt was paid off. Should he pay it for her?

Except. He didn’t want her to leave.

He wanted her to stay. As long as she could as a mortal. He’d be sad when she died, but in his three plus centuries no one had made him feel this good.

She was lively and smart and sexy.

“Who broke your heart,” he said again.

He’d kick some ass, but if that person had treated Babs properly she wouldn’t be here.

  “My last boyfriend, Jeff.”

She’d said that quietly and he knew it still smarted. “I’m glad he hurt you.”

  “Glad?”

“Wait that came out wrong. I’m glad he didn’t know enough to treat you right. Otherwise you wouldn’t be here.”

She shifted to look at him. “That’s sweet.”

She smiled up at him and his whole world seemed brighter. The sting of his last girlfriend’s rejection became a distant memory. He smiled back.

  “You need sleep?”

“I need to finish my dinner.”

Her stomach rumbled at that moment. She tried to get up.

  “No, I’ll get it.”

“You’re still my employer,” she said.

“But I’m also your lover. I’ll just be a second.”

He raced down the steps and grabbed her meal and was back. He pause at the door to compose himself.

She blinked when he entered. “That was fast.”

  “I know a shortcut.”

She sat up, pulling the covers with her. “Is it okay if I eat in your bed?”

“Yes. As long as you stay in there naked, please eat in my bed.”

She laughed. “Okay. You want some?”

“No. I don’t need much food.”

She looked him up and down. “I would have thought that just to be upright you’d need a certain about of calories.”

  “Yes, you’d think.”

He didn’t eat. Some vamps ate. He didn’t enjoy it, but he could stomach a little. He might have to to appease her until he was ready to reveal himself.

She finished her food then put the plate on the nightstand. He’d sat on the edge of the bed. She wasn’t intimidated by his nakedness. This scene was as if they were an old married couple.

  “I’ll take this downstairs.”

“You really like your place clean and neat.”

  “Yes, I do.”

He was back in a flash. Or almost a flash. He didn’t know how it seemed to Babs. She had thrown off the coves and had adopted a sexy pose. Though any pose she adopted would be sexy.

  “You ready again, big boy?”

As if on cue, his dick stood at attention. Her eyes looked they could bug out.

“Did I say some magic word that makes that thing work?”

He laughed. “No, you’re just naked and in my bed.”

She laughed. He slid into the bed beside her. She smelled of wine and meat and those were not bad smells. He felt a slight craving for blood, but as he was an old vampire, he wouldn’t need to feed for long.

But her scent told him where she was in her cycle. She couldn’t have a baby, not that he would be turned on to see her pregnant with his child. Too bad, he couldn’t sire anyone this way. Only with a bite.

  Chapter Five

Babs couldn’t believe he was ready all over again. She was too, now that she’d eaten. He looked at her as if she were the only woman in the universe and Babs’ heart woke up. It held some hoped that maybe she would get past the pain of Jeff and love again.

She didn’t want to hope, but her heart could be an optimist.

“Babs Willem, you are a sexy, gorgeous woman. And I’m going to enjoy you as long as you let me.”

She blinked. What a sweet thing to say. Her heart filled with joy, but she wasn’t sure where this was all going. She knew it was short term. She had to remember that. She was off to her next adventure when her debt was paid. Th
at should only take two months at the salary he was paying her.

“Let’s just be in the now.”

Something crossed his face then he smiled. “Okay. And now I need to fuck you again.”

She laughed at his vulgarity. That was what they were doing. Fucking.

“I’m going to put my face in your crotch and do things to your pussy. I want you to tell me what is good and what isn’t.”

“I think your face down there is pretty good.”

“I want this to be better than pretty good.”

  “Okay. I’ll tell you.”

He slid down her body and settled himself between her thighs. He opened them as far as they could go. She was a fat girl who did yoga so she would stretch better than most.

He started slowly with his tongue.

  “A little to the right.”

  “My right or yours.”

  “Mine.”

He moved his tongue in that direction. An electric jolt went through her. “Right. There.”

He pressed a little harder with his tongue. Her body bucked and he lost contact for a moment. He found the spot again. Thankfully. That would have sucked if he’d had to find it again.

  Well, maybe not.

Then he pushed even harder and her body went into overdrive. She stiffened and the anticipation almost made her explode. Then she did explode. Lights flashed behind her eyelids. Her body hummed then sang an aria. The aftershocks went on for so long she’d thought she’d never be still again.

  “I’m guessing that was good.”

  “Well, it was okay.”

He laughed. “My tongue might fall out if I try any harder.”

“That would be bad. So very bad for me.”

He kissed her inner thigh. Then nipped at it. Then licked it. He was only touching her thigh and she was ready to combust.

  ***

Elias could spend the whole night between her thighs. He didn’t need much sleep, but Babs would. He wanted her one more time before she drifted off. He slid up her body, placing his dick right at her entrance.

He entered her in one bold stroke. Then he stopped as he enjoyed the sensation of her surrounding him. Sex was such a magnificent thing. Two people joined together in mutual pleasure.

Life did not get any better.

He set up a rhythm. Random again, to drive her wild. Her gasps and moans told him he was doing his job. He could do this all night. He’d gotten his stamina back. Maybe he just needed to feed more than he thought.

Well, he thought he had control. Babs wiggled her hips then he almost went off like a rocket. How does she do that?

  “You’re driving me nuts, Elias.”

“I’m trying to. Holding off the orgasm makes it better.”

  “But I can have more.”

He laughed. Yes, women had that advantage. Not that he couldn’t recover quickly.

  Oh, okay.”

He sped up and plunged into her repeatedly. Her moans made him hard a visceral level. On a spiritual level. What was it about this woman? She was going to be his Kryptonite and he was in no position to get rid of her.

She let out a loud yell when she came this time. There was no mistaking her climax and it made Elias want to yell when he came.

  So he did.

And she laughed and smiled at him. “Makes it all that much better.”

He slumped over onto her. “You’re right. It does.”

Damn. He was going to get addicted to her. He either had to push her away now or find a way to keep her. Keep her here?

No one, but his watcher had ever been around. And they could only be in his life for seventy or eighty years. Until the next generation.

No one had ever stayed. No one.

They were either repulsed by him or they’d died. Would Babs be into eternal life? Living forever with him? And why had it taken him three hundred and fifty years to find his soul mate?

He rolled off of her. She followed and snuggled up against him. She’d be asleep soon and he could go to his lab. He could work on a cure for what he was. Then Babs could stay.

  If she wanted.

She yawned. “I’m going to fall asleep.”

“That’s fine, honey. Go to sleep.”

She snuggled into him more and he’d have a time getting out from under her, but he loved the human contact. He loved her warmth and softness. A few minutes later, she was snoring.

He extricated himself from her. He shifted the covers onto her then tiptoed out. He needed to find a cure. A way to reverse what had happened to him. He thought he was close.

But first, he poured himself a glass of blood.

  Chapter Six

Babs woke up and knew that Elias was not in bed with her. She’d had enough one night stands to know that he wasn’t even in the room. Sigh.

Had he gotten a good look at her in the little bit of daylight that peeked through the window. She looked around his bedroom. It was a dour place. Browns and dark greens. Like a men’s cigar room. This reflected the man she first worked for. It didn’t reflect the lover who’d brought her to this bed last night.

Where was he? She didn’t smell coffee, but the damn house was so big that the kitchen could be on fire and she probably couldn’t smell it.

She pulled on the shirt that Elias had worn yesterday. It smelled of him. Soap and water. Nice and simple.

She doubted he was a simple man, but he was an incredible lover. Best she’d ever had. She was surprised she could walk today. Muscles were sore that she hadn’t used in awhile.

Jeff hadn’t been a vigorous lover. He’d been just okay, but she’d loved him so that made up for the deficit in his bedroom skills.

He just hadn’t been trying that hard. Elisa, on the other hand, got an “A” for effort and an “A+” for execution. She wondered where he was.

She wandered down to the kitchen, hoping there was some breakfast in her future. Sadly the pots were cold. She’d have to make her own food. She enjoyed watching a man cook for her.

  “Where is he?”

She glanced at the open door to his basement. Surely she could go down there now. They were lovers. Didn’t that afford her certain privileges? Other than just for his body?

  “Hm.”

She pondered that for a moment. “Elias?”

He didn’t answer. She leaned into the doorway. He was down there. She could hear him. “Elias?”

She said it louder this time. All movement stopped. “Babs?”

  “Yes.”

“Don’t come down. I’ll be up in a minute. I’ll cook you breakfast.”

  So he could cook. Good.

She set places for both of them on the island. Then she turned on the coffee maker. He may not need it, but she did. She’d slept very well last night, but she wasn’t really a morning person.

His footsteps clomped up the steps, then Elia appeared in the doorway, a smile on his face. “Hi.”

He wore jeans and a t-shirt. Sneakers adorned his feet. Very sexy.

  “Hi.”

  “You sleep okay?”

  “Like a baby,” she said.

  “Good. Eggs? Bacon?”

  “Yes.”

Her stomach rumbled and he smiled. He kissed her then went to the stove. Soon bacon was sizzling in a pan and he was beating eggs for an omelet. She loved a man who could cook. Loved?

Strong word, but she already felt something for Elias. How odd. She didn’t believe in love at first sight.

A few minutes later, with a flourish, he put a late in front of her. He sat down, but only had bacon on his plate. He looked even better this morning than he had last night. Not so pale.

“How is your work downstairs coming?”

He frowned. “Not as well as I’d like.”

“Still not ready to tell me what you’re working on?”

“No, sorry. Not yet. I promise I will.”

  “Okay. I’ll respect your privacy.”

  ***

  Elias munched on the ba
con, but his thoughts were in his lab. He’d need some more test animals. He’d have to call his watcher today. One of these days he’d have to get himself a credit card and not rely on Cole so much.

The Rothschilds had been Watchers as long as there had been vampires. They were keepers of sorts. Protectors. He handled Elias’ worldly affairs, keeping him supplied with blood.

In this case, he’d find him some lab rats. Elias needed to make them vampires to see if he could cure them. He hated doing it to the animals, but it was better than doing it to humans. It had been more than one hundred years since he’d turned anyone.

He wasn’t going to start now.

Unless. No. He wouldn’t even offer it to Babs. That was not fair.

  “You’re deep in thought.”

“Just about the stuff I’m doing in the lab.”

“I see.” She finished her last bite and then stood. “I need to get to work. Despite sleeping with the boss, I still need to keep my job by doing my job.”

Elias laughed. “I still like a clean house.”

He wished he could tell her what was going on. Instead he was going to help her.

She left the kitchen and he called Cole.

  “Good morning, Elias.”

“Good morning Cole. I need more animals and then I have another favor to ask.”

“What?” He’d memorized Babs’ credit card number so he could do this. “I want to pay off someone’s debt. Can you cut a check please?”

  “Should I ask?”

  “No. It’s complicated.”

  “Complicated. Right. From a vampire.”

Elias liked Cole, but sometimes his sense of humor grated on him. He let it pass today. He wanted to surprise Babs. Would she then go?

That was a possibility. He’d have to take that chance.

And ramp up his efforts to cure himself. Either way he didn’t want to live for another three hundred fifty years by himself. That wouldn’t be fun.

“Let me know when you’ve sent the check.”

“The rats will be delivered tomorrow.”

“Make sure they go around to the back.”

“I’ll put that in the delivery instructions.”

“Good. I don’t want anyone to see.”

  “Babs?”

“How do you know her name?”

“Because it is the credit card that you’re paying off.”
