This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, places and occurrences are a product of the author’s imagination. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, places or occurrences, is purely coincidental.

Stuck in a rut, Kyler’s friends drag him out to Big D’s Strip club and treat him to a private dance with big hunk of cowboy, Cody. Kyler finds himself talking to the sexy guy instead. The shelter Kyler volunteers at is in danger of closing and needs a little help to bridge the gap. Cody and the Big D put on a charity event but that’s not enough for the stripper/paramedic. He wants more of this caring guy. The men are both busy and want the other to make time for them. Amazing sex, hard work, and charitable efforts are a great mix for love but something has to give.

  Chapter One

“Why are there two entrances?” Kyler Burgard eyed the Big D’s strip club only a few blocks from downtown Vegas. While he wasn’t a tourist, he also didn’t frequent places like this.

Sure, he was used to gay bars, but strip clubs were a whole different animal. His friends had dragged him out. Brian and Joey thought he was getting too serious. Kyler just called it being a grown up. They were all twenty-six now, and while he’d consider going to a club like this for a bachelor party, he didn’t think it was something to do on a normal night.

“One is for women and one is for men. Trust me, it’s more fun that way,” Brian said.

“Why don’t we just go to the usual bar, and you guys can try fixing me up there for the hundredth time?” Until he laid eyes on the glitzy strip joint, Kyler had never thought he would miss those days.

His best friends had become a couple last year, making him the third wheel. They never let him feel left out, but they were determined to get him a man. Kyler appreciated the effort, even though it made him uncomfortable.

The trio paid the cover and passed by a burly bouncer into a classy setup with an old-style bar and plenty of tables and chairs. It was not as glittery and stereotypical as he had expected.

“I want you to forget about the shelter and work and everything.” Joey steered Kyler into a seat and patted his shoulder. “I’ll help Brian grab some drinks from the bar.”

Kyler didn’t argue. Instead, he turned and took in the massive stage and big curtain. The odd, pod-looking things to one side confused him but he figured they were some kind of extras. He grunted and sunk further into his seat. He just wasn’t in the mood for a lap dance or hunky men strutting around.

“What is making him so sad?” Brian asked to Joey as if Kyler wasn’t right there.

Joey set a drink in front of his friend and sat on the other side of Brian. “His parents visited.”

“Right. So they messed with your head. Forget them,” Brian said.

His friends weren’t wrong. His parents had had a hard time accepting his life choices. Kyler worked with Brian and Joey as a mechanic at a local dealership. He’d always loved cars—fixing and rebuilding them. They had always been his obsession so why would his parents suspect he was gay? Still, as the baby of four kids, Kyler had always been the misfit. When he dad retired, his parents had followed his two sisters with children to New Mexico. A wonderful relief.

“They just want me to grow up.” Kyler shrugged and sipped his drink.

“You have a good job. Great friends. You volunteer at a shelter for gay teens and you are a great friend. What? Do they want you to get married to Mr. Right and adopt a couple kids?” Joey teased.

Brian chuckled. “They want him to go straight and move to the same subdivision his sisters live in so they have a big play group for the grandkids.”

“Pretty much.” Kyler was in no danger of giving in on that score. He loved Vegas and his friends. He loved hot men, just had never met one that stuck. When guys heard mechanic, they thought big, tough, burly men, and Kyler just wasn’t one of those. He could work out like a madman to define his muscles, but he would never be that big.

Yet he wasn’t twinkish or feminine, which meant he didn’t fit into any of the usual gay labels. He still got plenty of dates but couldn’t find one who was willing to love him for who he was. Brian and Joey made it look so easy. They met on the job and bam!

“Oh God, he’s getting all quiet again.” Joey frowned. Just then the first dance was announced.

The MC was a silver fox who introduced the opening dance before the lights dimmed and a group of hot young men shook what they had. Looking them over, Kyler wanted to card a couple of them. He assumed they must be at least eighteen, but they looked so young. Working in a shelter for gay teens made him sensitive to that. The other dancers were firmly in their twenties and thirties, so he felt better staring at them.

Then a hunk in a cowboy hat moved to the front. He was big and muscled with abs so defined Kyler wanted to feel them. Licking his lips, Kyler followed the one man who captivated him. When the guy whipped off his hat, Kyler finally saw his face up close. Short brown hair and innocent blue eyes made Kyler want him more.

The MC announced their cowboy was “Cody!” and when Cody snapped his hips and worked his torso, Kyler’s jaw fell.

“I think he likes it here,” Brian said.

Kyler ignored the comment and forced himself to look at the whole group of dancers instead of staring at one like a damn stalker. He reminded himself physical attraction did not say a thing about a man’s personality.

Joey sighed. “He does have a type.”

“A what?” Kyler looked away from the hot strippers toward his friends who were grinning like idiots at him.

“You like hunks. Hot, big muscled guys like that cowboy.” Joey shrugged. “It’s not a big deal.”

“I’m attracted to sexy, in-shape men who are good-looking. You could say that about any man here.” Kyler blew it off.

“They’re all in shape, and most are good looking. You like him.” Brian looked right at the man who had captured Kyler’s attention.

“Did you bring me here to torment me or cheer me up? Because I was happy going to the normal gay bar and hanging out.” Kyler was not in the mood to be teased.

Brian turned to Joey. “He so needs to get laid.”

“Well I’m not paying for that. But a lap dance does seem in order.” Joey leaned back and watched as the dance
concluded.

A couple of men started their own routine and some others mingled. Kyler cringed when he saw Cody working the crowd. Brian waved him over.

“No,” Kyler said softly to his friend.

“Come on.” Brian turned to the dancer. “My friend here needs some cheering up. Private lap dance?”

Cody nodded and smiled at Kyler. Before he knew what was happening, Kyler found himself in one of those pods. He sat on a loveseat inside, and there were only a few feet in front of him for the dancer to move. Cody closed the door and gave Kyler a sexy grin.

“You don’t need to do this. My friends are just being smartasses.” Seeing Cody up close made Kyler want to do some very dirty things, but only in his fantasies. He didn’t like the setup of a strip club romance. It’d be better if he just went home.

“It’s okay. I noticed you from the stage.” Cody set his hat on Kyler’s head.

“Sure you did.” Kyler couldn’t suspend his reality to buy into the lie. It was paid-for time and a job. Kyler was a bit lonely, but he could always find a hookup at the bar. He didn’t need to go this far.

“You’re not one of those holy people who paid for the time to try and convert me from my wicked ways, are you?” Cody sat on the loveseat. “They’ll kick you out, and you’re too cute to be a judgmental jerk.”

Kyler smiled. The fake veneer of stripper god was broken. Cody was acting like anyone else in the situation might.

“I’m not one of those, no. I don’t do strip clubs often, and I’m not really into the fake thing. Buying the fantasy only works if I can pretend. Sorry.” Kyler shrugged.

“Well your friend did pay for my time. I should at least give you what he paid for.” Cody stood up and moved in closer as he gyrated.

The guy was hot as hell, but he was a real person, not a piece of meat. Kyler couldn’t help himself as he started to laugh. He felt terrible about it. Cody probably needed his job, and he moved well, but Kyler felt like a creep. The laughter was a nervous reaction.

“That bad?” Cody stopped and adjusted his tight briefs.

“No, not bad. It just makes me feel dirty.” Kyler reached for money in his pocket to tip the guy. “Let’s call it enough.”

“No, look this is paid for. If I don’t give you the whole thing my boss will be annoyed. I’d have to explain that I couldn’t get a guy who liked me stripping.” Cody frowned. “You’re not straight.”

“No, I’m not straight. I can explain to the boss or whatever. My friends are trying to shake me out of my rut and cheer me up. But faking it doesn’t work for me. I’m not dumb, and odds are half the guys on that stage are straight.” Kyler tried to stand up.

“Please, wait. I’m not straight. You’re right some of the dancers are and some go both ways. That doesn’t mean we don’t like to dance. I don’t hate what I’m doing, and I don’t work extras on the side like some of the guys. So your friend can’t hire me for a one night stand.” Cody sighed.

“Glad to hear it. You don’t need me bumming you out.” Kyler tried to change his attitude to get through the time.

Cody sat next to Kyler and swung his legs over Kyler’s lap. “If you don’t want me to dance, I can listen or talk.”

At the drop of the stripper act, the arousal factor jumped in Kyler, and his mood lifted as well.

  * * * *

As Cody settled in close to the cute guy, he pressed tight and felt the muscle underneath his polo shirt.

  “What’s your name?” Cody asked.

“Kyler.” The man blushed and tried to look away. “This isn’t necessary.”

“Why do you need cheering up?” Cody could talk to anyone and had a good feeling about this man.

Kyler was hot. He had dark brown hair, brown eyes and looked like the boy next door whom you would trust. He stood about five-foot, ten-inches and was not a big guy, but he wasn’t girly either. Cody was intrigued and turned on.

“My parents were in, and they don’t get me. Plus, the charity that I spend time volunteering for is struggling. Lots of little issues but nothing major. This won’t fix it.” Kyler looked down at Cody’s abs.

He was used to men drooling over his body, but Cody got the feeling Kyler was avoiding eye contact rather than objectifying. “That sucks. My parents aren’t thrilled I do this on the side, but it helps pay the bills.”

  “On the side?” Kyler asked.

Cody hadn’t planned to share personal info. The stripper rule was ‘give them the illusion’. Ken, the MC, wouldn’t be happy, but he wasn’t here. “I work as a paramedic by day. I do this for extra money to pay off the student loans and get ahead. I tried regular college, and it didn’t quite work out, but I’m good at jumping into things—like emergency work.”

“So you go from saving lives to this?” Kyler put the cowboy had back on Cody.

“I’m a man of mystery. What do you do?” Cody asked.

  “I’m a mechanic. Dull.”

Cody smiled. “Dull? Try essential. Sexy with a little grease in the mix.”

Kyler didn’t elaborate. The conversation was a bit tense, but so far the man hadn’t pushed Cody off his lap. The physical part felt comfortable. Cody had to try not to get hard over this shy mechanic.

“Okay, fine. What’s the charity drama?” Cody asked.

“The time isn’t up?” Kyler asked.

“Your friend was overly generous. It’s more like three lap dances. Don’t leave me hanging.” Cody ran his hands down Kyler’s chest and shifted his weight.

“Fine. I volunteer at a shelter for homeless GLBT teens. Funding is drying up, and it might have to close if we can’t get some quick cash. The managers are trying to get some celebrity sponsors, but they won’t be in for a couple of months. I don’t make enough to give more than time,” Kyler said.

“At least the kids won’t freeze in the Vegas spring.” It might have been the wrong thing to say, but Cody tried to look on the brighter side when he couldn’t fix a problem. He’d had patients die in his hands, but he always knew he’d done everything he could and arrived at the scene as soon as possible.

“I know. People think because it’s warm here there’s no reason for shelters. These kids need someone to talk to, someone to try to get them home. If their parents kicked them out, there are volunteers who reach out to them to see if their attitude has changed.” Kyler frowned.

“I don’t know if I could do that. How do you talk to the parents?” Cody was admiring this guy more and more. It wasn’t just sexual chemistry.

“I don’t. Usually that goes to the older ladies. People are more receptive to a grandmotherly type. If the teens can’t go home, we try to find another family member to take them in. It’s better than foster care. Vegas gets runaways from everywhere so the kids will just continue to run rather than going into the system. We get some donations of stuff, but the shelter needs cash to keep the lights on and water running.” Kyler ran his hand up Cody’s back.

It felt amazingly good. Sexy yet comforting. “Wish I could help. I’ve got two jobs so I’m not exactly flush.”

“I wasn’t asking for help. You wanted to know why I was bummed. That’s it.” He shrugged. “I was lucky I didn’t end there. My parents weren’t thrilled when they caught me with a guy in high school.”

“But they didn’t kick you out. Good family. We’re lucky. You’re such a nice guy. You don’t belong in a place like this. Some of those dancers will try to take you home,” Cody warned, switching topics.

“That won’t happen. I can get a free hook up at a gay bar. I’m not one to pay for that.” Kyler tried to slide back.

Cody held on. “I’m sure you can get tons of men in bed. I can feel all the muscle under your clothes. You could probably be a stripper.”

“That’s really not a goal of mine. My plans involve clothing and a little charity work.” Kyler smiled.

“I’d like to help, if I can,” Cody offered just before the time was up.

  Chapter Two

The guy was good at seeming genuine, but Kyler wasn’t just going to fall for any good stripper doing his job. He didn’t seem like a liar so maybe the paramedic thing was legit, but Kyler was not looking for compliments to stroke his ego or a date with a stripper.

“I’m sure the time must be over now.” Kyler stood up, forcing Cody to stand as well. “Thanks for the muscles and sympathy.”

“No problem. It’s nice to feel like a person…not just a tight ass.” Cody grinned.

Kyler remembered the tip and slipped a twenty along Cody’s side, tucking it under his briefs. “Thanks.”

When Kyler turned, strong arms tugged him back. Cody’s superior physical presence sent a thrill through Kyler. Cody tossed the cowboy hat aside and kissed Kyler. It was playful at first, and Kyler relaxed. Then Cody deepened the kiss and pulled Kyler in closer.

Cody had to be six-two and felt like a wall of seduction as Kyler gave in. The sexual attraction was white hot, but when Kyler felt the rhinestones on the white costume briefs, he backed off. It was a joke. A stripper?

“Sorry. I think this was weird enough. I don’t think we should complicate things.” Kyler stepped back and reached for the door.

“Wait.” Cody put his hand over Kyler’s. “Go talk to the bartender. The owner here is really serious about supporting gay rights and helping causes. We have plenty of gay men on staff and obviously as customers. Maybe there’s a fundraiser we could do or something.”

Kyler nodded. “Okay, thanks. I appreciate the tip.” He exited the pod and saw Brian and Joey smirking.

Cody went back to his crowd-pleasing activities. On to the next customer as if nothing had happened. Kyler knew that for Cody this probably was just another night at work. Nothing special. Pushing away the swirl of desire and confusion, he focused on the potential that could come out of the “lap dance” rather than the longing he felt for more of Cody’s kissing skills.
