We live in Carlotta’s house, because, as it turned out, she left to me in her will. Matt is very good with his hands, and an excellent carpenter, so the house is slowly beginning to look like a real house, and not the public dump. Monica Howard and Luke Thatcher sold out last year and moved to a new place where they could visit her father regularly—in prison, but Regina still lives next door. She didn’t move away, as she had wanted to, mostly because the property values at Encantada took a real hit for a while. I think about Carlotta often, and every time I see Regina’s roses doing so well, I smile.
The neighborhood is quiet again, and most of the photographers stopped hanging around after the Fab Couple, Monica and Luke, moved away. There was no excitement for a long time, until the big drug bust, of course. Matt went down and pulled a few strings to bail Regina out, and I’ve promised to go to court when her case comes up, to explain about her thriving pot crop to the judge. With a bit of luck, she may not even go to prison.
