“Violet!” Jared shouted, attempting to break up the scuffle.

Grabby, strong hands pulled me off the woman where I’d been straddling her delivering my violent assault.

  “Violet!” James shouted.

More voices echoed from just behind me somewhere, wrenching my arms behind me, securing them tightly, while I kicked and flailed, desperate to have a go at Betty Boop again.

“It’s just me, Violet.” Kyle hissed against my ear. “I told you don’t come here.” He shouted. “I fucking told you, Jared!”

Kyle dragged me from the crowd. My breaths steadied when the sound of an elevator dinging alerted me that we were leaving. The night was over.

  Violet

After arguing with Brooke and Kyle on Park Avenue for half an hour, Kyle reluctantly agreed and dropped me to Rontom’s.

The car eased to a stop.

“Don’t bother.” I grumbled when I heard the driver’s side door unlatch.

  “Fine.” He muttered.

Taking a deep breath, I grabbed the door handle and opened it stepping out and inhaling the crisp Portland air, that I so desperately needed. Oxygen.

“This was supposed to be a good night, Violet. I’m really sorry Jared brought that girl along.” Kyle said, his voice sounding closer as he leaned across the seats.

I held a hand up, palm facing out. “It’s fine.”

“Well, it isn’t fine. Brooke is upset.”

  When isn’t Brooke upset?

“Would it have made it any better if I shot Betty Boop?” I forced a smile.

“Violet...” Kyle went on but I was already heading away from him before I could hear the rest of the bullshit that came from his mouth.

Before we made it here, I’d texted Elijah, nearly desperate for him to come and get me. Immediately, he called me back saying that he would.

I felt something knowing that he’d be here soon. Anticipation? Hope?

  15,14, 13, 12,11.

I counted in my head, listening for the thick chatter and noise that usually came from Rontom’s but it wasn’t there telling me it was a quiet night. I knew Ana would be on. Focusing on the sound of my four-inch heels against the concrete, I tried to push out the events of the night from my mind.

I don’t know why I was pissed but I was. I didn’t want Jared – not by a longshot but knowing that he’d decided to be with Betty Boop – that maybe even he cared about her – that she wasn’t blind just pissed me the fuck off and somehow made me feel small.

Betty Boop was normal. I, was not.

“Violet.” Marty called out, jerking me out of my daydream, his fingers curling around my upper arm. “It’s good to see you. It’s quiet tonight.” He said, pressing a kiss to my cheek.

“Yeah, I know. I just came for a quick drink and then I’m leaving. Is Ana on?”

“Yeah, she’s been here since eight.”

  “Okay, good.”

“I’ll take you in.” Marty offered.

  “Thanks.”

I plopped down into one of the heavy barstools, dropping my purse on the counter in front of me. A warm hand covered mine.

  “Ana.”

“Yeah hey, Violet. How’d the show go?”

I laughed a little to myself. “Good.”

  I hope.

  “The usual?” She asked.

“Yeah, please.” I let out a loud exhale, listening to the low sound of some indie rock band that sounded from the speakers.

  “It’s quiet tonight.”

“It’s nice. It gives me time to study.” She admitted, sliding a vodka tonic in front of me. “Are you okay, Violet?”

  “Yeah, I’m fine.”

Ana touched my hand softly. “You just seem a little upset.”

“No, I’m fine.” I said shaking my head, taking a sip of my drink.

“Are you waiting for Elijah?” She asked.

  “Yeah, actually.”

“Okay, I can ask Marty to let you know when he’s here. He can walk you out.”

“He may come in for a drink.” I said to Ana.

“Oh. He never comes in, Violet.” She said firmly.

  “Oh.”

“Elijah’s a good guy.” She said. “He’s just kind of shy. He’s helped a lot of people around here and down in Cannon Beach. He’s a brilliant doctor.”

  I smiled.

“And he’s had an amazing recovery.” She added.

I narrowed my eyes at her words.

  “You’re both dating now?”

It was such a straightforward question but I couldn’t answer it. I had no clue what Elijah and I were doing. Maybe it wasn’t even important. I liked him, a lot. Maybe that was all that mattered.

  “We’re just friends.”

“That’s nice.” Her voice trailed off. “Everybody needs friends.”

I huffed and finished my drink in less than five sips, desperately wanting another but the last thing I wanted to be tonight was drunk. I’d had enough of those days.

Marty’s heavy hand landed on my shoulder. “Elijah’s here.” He said, helping me out of my seat. “It’s cool, Violet. I don’t mind.” He rattled out, before I could ask the very question that I was certain was etched all over my exhausted face. Quickly, he ushered me towards the door. “It’s easier so he doesn’t have to park.”

  Why won’t Elijah come inside?

  Elijah

Pulling up the handbrake, I slouched deeper into the custom leather seat feeling completely exhausted. Violet slept. Her hand was curled underneath her chin and her mahogany locks fell in waves around her shoulders and face.

The bare skin of her long legs was exposed that lead down to four-inch Christian Louboutin heels. Sexy-as-fuck.

  God.

She was beautiful, especially when she slept. I feared waking the monster, wishing it could always be like this with her – peaceful and serene. This woman was the one and only reason for the frequent, if not, annoying hard-ons I had as of lately.

Dropping my head back against the head rest and letting out a breath, I stared out at the beach. The white full moon that was out that illuminated the black water. Haystack Rock a looming figure that sat just underneath the twinkling stars. The smell of the salty sea and the sound of the waves crashing against the shoreline relaxed me.

Exhaling, I closed my eyes, taking another deep breath, allowing myself to inhale everything Violet that filled the cab of this truck. Her perfume, the lingering scent of shampoo in her hair. It was a feeling I hadn’t had in a long time. Hell, I hadn’t been with a woman in a long time and I didn’t think I’d missed it until this one had come along and had weaseled her way into my life – or semblance thereof.

She stirred, shifting where she lay, dragging her fingers up her thighs, hiking the hem of her blue dress up higher. Her eyes opened and immediately stared in my direction. I kept my focus on her. She removed the thin blanket that covered most of her and undid her seatbelt without saying a word.

I didn’t move, only watched her – impressed by her intuition and her lack of hesitation. Fixated by the way she felt my presence, thick and heavy around her.

She cants forward, reaching a hand out, placing it in the center of my chest. Taking a deep breath, I accept that my heart is beating a little harder, a lot faster when she’s around. She eased across the seat and into my lap, without saying a word. Her hands are everywhere, touching, feeling, caressing me. I leaned into her small hand, appreciating the affection that to most people, might seem like nothing, but to me it was everything.

  Touch.

I shifted, holding her waist by the sides while she unzips my jeans pulling my cock that’s been painfully hard all day. I groaned when her fingers wrapped around it. Her other hand shreds away her panties, destroying them completely, while I pulled off her dress, eyeing the pink lacy number that covered her plump breasts. Her mouth crashed down onto mine, stealing my breath away, while I scrambled to unsnap her bra. She leaned away from me, while I reached a h
and out, stupefied by the glorious vision in front of me. All tangled long hair, curves for centuries and pale skin dusted by the moonlight.

In the last few weeks, I’d felt like I lived for this – breathed for this. Being with this woman gave me something no one else could. I was with her. We were together – man and woman. I was free from the judgments of others, free from the opinions and the scorn, outright disgust and the jokes. I could be myself and it was fucking priceless.

I controlled the kiss, causing her to squeak, holding her hair by the roots, warring with her tongue with every thrust I made with mine into her sweet mouth.

Dipping down, I drew one of her nipples into my mouth, sucking on it teasingly.

This woman loved the control but she wouldn’t have it with me – she’d have to do with the little I allowed her. She eased deeper into the crook of my body. Running my hands up her soft thighs, my breathing hitched in anticipation of being inside of this woman, deep and unrelenting, filling her with me, leaving my mark. Her fingers raked through my hair and I shut my eyes at the sensation, allowing myself to become drugged up on the scent of her and it couldn’t be more perfect.

I held onto her tight, listening to her whimper, when she sheathed my cock with her tight, wet heat.

  Violet

The loud creak of the leather filled my ears, along with Elijah’s heavy panting and my own moans. I steadied myself in his lap, gripping on the head rest behind him, sinking into the feeling of his large warm hands squeezing my breasts and teasing my nipples, wrapping around me.

Each rise and fall that I made on his cock, left me panting, desperate for more. I was covered in sweat, bouncing like a pogo stick, listening to the sounds of wetness in between us.

Warm hands encircled my waist. I buried my face in Elijah’s hair, taking his earlobe between my teeth and nibbling, before I bit hard. He groaned loud and his cock twitched deep inside of me. The head of the monster hit that special spot deep within me that made me fucking scream, while rocking on top of him in a frenzy.

“Fuck.” He hissed, burying his face between my breasts, then taking a nipple into his mouth.

He locked me in a grip, so tight I thought I’d shatter. We settled into a movement – a dance that had the shocks of the truck squeaking as it rocked where it was parked in Elijah’s driveway.

I whimpered and screamed, impaling myself on his thick cock that was splitting me wide open, feeling my pussy clench and throb around him.

“That’s it.” He whispered into the shell of my ear, cupping my head.

My mouth opened in a silent scream at first. Then it unleashed. A series of screams left my throat. Before my own orgasm could subside, a growl left Elijah’s mouth, primitive and loud enough to frighten me. He pulled me into a death grip, nearly smothering me into the crook of his neck as he came, stilling completely. My orgasm still playing through, still wringing me out – every clench and throb around him like sweet agony that left me breathless and covered in sweat. His cock jerked deep inside of me hard, claiming me, marking me, filling me with his cum.

I collapsed against him, still panting, burying my tears in his soft T-shirt. I had a feeling he knew they were falling but he didn’t speak on them, he only held me tighter, just like I needed to be, like I desperately wanted to be.

What the fuck was wrong with me?

“I like you.” He whispered into my hair, running his fingers down the line of my spine, caressing me.

  “I like you too.”

  Violet

I wanted to curl up here forever. It was morning and light outside, which I knew since it filtered in the room. The birds sang and the sound of the ocean in the distance was incredible. Elijah was snuggled against me, his heavy arm draped across my waist, pulling me against his chest.

Easing out of his grip, I felt around on the floor looking for Elijah’s T-shirt. I’d been here twice already, so I was certain I could find my way around – at least to the kitchen, without any help. Standing, I stretched before hesitantly making my way to the door. I padded down the hallway, holding my arms out on each side for balance. I swallowed down a swear word when my foot banged into something, followed by the low jangle of metal. Reaching down, I clutched it in my hands standing straight again, fiddling with the item and listening to the sound again.

  It was a Slinky.

Placing the toy back down, I continued towards where I knew the kitchen was, certain about it when I felt the cool tile under my feet. As soon as I made it to the center island, the sweet smell of perfume invaded my nostrils. I stood frozen to the floor, in a complete panic for a second, realizing that someone was here. Slowly, I began to retreat.

“I’m sorry.” The soft voice said, chuckling.

Something slammed and then the chugging sound of a washing machine came on. Gripping the hem of the shirt I wore, I searched for the soft voice again. I was completely naked underneath this T-shirt that barely hit below my ass.

“You are absolutely stunning.” She laughed with a sigh. “I didn’t mean to scare you. I guess I should’ve called first. I just came here to check on Elijah and to use his washing machine. Ours is in the shop.”

  Still, I didn’t speak.

  “I’m Maira. Elijah’s mother.”

“Hello.” I said nervously. “I’m Violet.”

The woman stepped closer, likely to get a better look.

“Oh my, I’m sorry.” She exhaled, placing her hand in mine, which made me believe she’d had it out for a while, hoping I’d shake it.

“I didn’t realize you were…” Her voice trailed off, as she stopped herself from saying the rest.

  I shook her hand.

“Mom.” Elijah said, coming up behind me, startling me with his deep voice, which held a hint of irritation in it.

“I’m sorry, Elijah.” Maira babbled out. “I didn’t realize you had company. I’m going to get out of your hair right now.” She said quickly, scrambling around.

He touched my shoulder softly. “Don’t move.”

“I’ll get it, Mom.” He said making a heave, lifting something. Then the screen door across the room slammed.

The two headed outside, still talking.

  “Who is she?” Maira questioned.

“A friend of mine. She’s nice.”

The compliment made me smile. I’d heard many people talk about me and nice wasn’t one of the words they usually associated with my name.

“When are you going to pack that stuff away, Elijah? Dylan’s things are all over the place. If she can’t see, what if she falls over something and hurts herself?” Maira pointed out.

“Mom, please not right now. Can you keep your voice down?” He hissed.

“The last of Jennah’s things went out to the charity auction last week but you need to get a start on Dylan’s stuff. It’s not healthy, keeping all of that stuff in your house after so long.”

“I’m the doctor remember, Mother.” He said.

“Well, I am your mother and I know what’s best for you.”

It was beyond uncomfortable overhearing the exchange between Elijah and his mother, that sounded like they were on the cusp of having a full-blown argument. Something told me they’d had this conversation many times before. Nervously, I leaned against the counter hugging my middle, feeling the cool breeze from outside, skate over the bare skin on my thighs.

  Who were Jennah and Dylan?

  Eljiah

“Sorry about that.” I muttered when I returned, feeling more than put off from my mother’s unexpected presence. “She can get into the house through the garage, which is usually locked. I don’t usually have a lot of company.” I sighed. “I’ve locked it. It’ll stay locked. My mother will have to knock from now on.”

Violet gave me a slight nod, while she still stood leaning against the counter. I approached her slowly, pushing my fingers into her thick hair.

“You look pretty this morning.” I whispered.

  “Thanks.” She said, movin
g closer to me snaking her arms around my sides in an embrace.

She was warm and soft in my arms. I held her to me for a while, nuzzling my nose into her hair, inhaling the fresh scent on her locks. “Let me make you breakfast.”

  “Okay.”

Guiding her to sit at the small round table just off to our right, I ambled across the kitchen to the fridge, pulling out a carton of eggs, milk and bacon. Occasionally, I glanced at Violet over my shoulder, finding her unease slightly amusing since I knew everything she was doing with me now, was out of her norm. She fiddled with her fingers, staring in the direction of every sound I made while I quickly made us breakfast.

Setting a cup of coffee in front of her, I placed her hand on the spoon.

  “Thanks.” She said shyly.

Sliding a plate towards her and placing mine in front of me, I waited.

“I hate eating in front of people.” She murmured.

Placing a hand over hers. “It’s okay. It’s just us here.”

She nodded and fiddled around with her fork. The corners of her mouth quirked up into a smile. “I usually eat with my fingers when I can.”

“I understand.” I said, digging into the scrambled eggs with my fork.

We ate in silence for a while, while I sat fixated on Violet’s exquisite features and her mesmerizing eyes. Her nipples grazed against the soft cotton of the white T-shirt she wore, which belonged to me. Each time, she leaned forward, I stole a peek down her shirt, staring at the soft mounds that I’d become so accustomed to squeezing.

“My mother lives in Nob Hill.” She blurted out. “I found out last month.”

I froze looking at her, while she fiddled with the handle of her coffee cup. “Oh?”

“Yeah.” She said taking a breath. “She has a new family and everything…normal kids too, three of them, all girls. One is just a year younger than me.”

  “How do you know this?”

“I hired a private investigator to look for her a few years back. I didn’t know what I would find. I thought maybe she might’ve been dead but what I found was actually worse.” She sighed.
