“You better be wearing your ‘getting laid’ jeans.”

I was mid zip of my favorite jeans when Danny’s voice stopped me short. “All my jeans are getting laid jeans.”

His imposing figure filled my doorway as he came into my room for an inspection. With disappointment in his eyes, he sighed heavily. “No, they aren’t. Take those off.”

“What’s wrong with these?” I buttoned the fly and took a few steps back to look at myself in the mirror. “I look good.”

Danny opened my pants drawer and pulled out a pair of black skinny jeans that I rarely wore. “Those are fine for grocery shopping, but not for the bar. These,” he held up the pants he’d pulled out for me, “will get you some ass. Change.”

Annoyed, I looked straight in his eyes as I unzipped my jeans and shoved them off my hips until they pooled at my feet.

He glanced down at my naked dick and rolled his eyes. “Dude, a little warning next time.” He held his hand out in front of his eyes as if he were trying to shield himself from my nakedness.

I shrugged. “What can I say? These are my getting laid underwear.”

Danny laughed as he tossed the jeans to me and left my room so I could finish getting ready. Part of me didn’t really want to go out, but an even bigger part of me knew Danny was right. I really did need to get laid. For the past six months, I’d been in a bit of a dry spell. Not for lack of opportunities but just because I hadn’t been in the mood. But whether my mind was in the mood or not, my body had needs. An alpha needed to blow his knot on a regular basis or tension began to build up. If I didn’t find the energy to bury myself inside an omega soon, I’d be a surly asshole to everyone I crossed paths with. That’s the real reason I agreed to this little get together Danny planned at The Fallen Nut.

He’d invited all of our buddies out to get me drunk and laid. Of course, those two things didn’t always go together, but I was game to at least try.

It was my birthday after all.

We got to the bar early enough to secure two large tables in the middle of the room. There were six of us, but we left a couple chairs open in case one of us met someone and wanted to invite them to join us. Of course, if I met anyone, having them sit down with my buddies would be the last thing on my mind. I had a few goals in mind and making a new friend wasn’t one of them.

As expected, Danny put me at the head of the table, so I had a full view of my friends as we all downed our first two shots. But I also had a clear view of every person who came in and out of the bar. There were a few groups of omegas lingering near the bar and at tables, but none really stood out to me. At least, not enough to get me out of my chair and on the prowl. Not until I locked eyes with a sweet ginger as he passed by with a mean-looking alpha.

The omega was wearing a green polo that fit his lithe body snugly and brought out the green hues in his eyes to the point that they almost glowed, even in the dim bar lighting. I could tell he was trying not to look at me as his alpha dragged him across the bar to a table in the corner.

But he did look at me.

And it wasn’t just a passing glance. He actually did a double-take when his eyes met mine. A shiver raced down my spine and my breath hitched at the intensity I saw reflecting back at me. Before I could stand and move toward him, he was whisked away by his alpha.

A rock formed in my belly when I realized he had an alpha. This beautiful man with citrus gold hair was taken...but he was still looking at me with eyes that just wouldn’t quit. And when he licked his lower lip, I had to press my fist into my lap to keep my cock from poking right through the damn skinny jeans Danny made me wear.

“Roll your tongue back up or see if they’ll take a third.” Mikey slapped my shoulder and slipped another shot in front of me. “Cuz this is just embarrassing.”

I forced my eyes away from the omega I wanted to look at and back to the group of alphas trying to support me for my birthday. “Yeah, you’re right. Let’s do this.”

The shots went down smooth, and then I was on my feet with Danny on one side and Jason on the other, dragging me to the dance floor to shake my ass while trying to forget about the one that got away before I ever even had him.

Dancing when I’m drunk is a great distraction.

Two cute omegas wrapped their tight little bodies around me for three songs before I had to kiss their cheeks goodbye to visit the little alphas room. And no, that’s wasn’t me being cute. That’s what the sign on door said. Little alphas room and big omegas room. It was some kind of inside joke between the two owners of The Fallen Nut that I never bothered to ask about. I’d been going to this bar since I turned twenty-one because it was the only place in Oak Grove that had twenty-five different beers on tap.

Usually, I could get through half of them in a night, but I was on a strict shots-only diet for the evening. That was the tradition for birthday boys with my group of friends, and I wasn’t about to trample tradition. On the way back to my table, I took a detour so I could pass right by the ginger omega who I’d caught watching me all night. Of course, the reason I caught him watching me was because I couldn’t stop myself from watching him.

As if he knew I was coming, his back straightened and his head whipped around toward me. His alpha had been holding his hand in the center of the table, but the cute omega yanked his hand free as he watched me walk by. That pull in my gut almost drew me directly to his side, but Jason appeared beside me before I could take a step, slipping his arm around my waist and steering me back toward the bar. “Okay, birthday boy. Now it’s time for a blow job.”

I let Jason guide me away, but I strained my neck to keep my eyes on my omega until a group of people behind me blocked my view.

“Blow job. Blow job. Blow job.” The crowd chanted as a hot bartender in barely-there booty shorts slipped a full shot glass inside the waistband of his shorts and leaned back against the counter.

This was another one of those birthday traditions I couldn’t get out of. I turned back toward my omega one last time before my friends started singing Happy Birthday to me. Before they got to the last line, I placed both hands on the hips of the bartender, dragged my tongue down the center valley of his washboard abs, and sucked the full rim of the glass into my mouth.

Grabbing a drink with my lips and swallowin
g it down without using my hands wasn’t exactly the kind of blow job I’d planned to participate in on my birthday but the only omega I was interested in was already spoken for, so this would have to suffice.

  Who needed birthday sex anyway?

“Try a dating app,” Joaquim said.

  “It’ll be fun,” Brent said.

“The internet was how we ended up married,” Joaquin said.

What Joaquim and his husband had failed to mention was that there was no dating app involved when it came to them finding true love. It was shit luck paired with a bunch of sappy viral posts. Unlike my shit luck.

  Which was just that—shit.

I knew better than to drive an hour and a half to meet someone who I only sorta kinda thought was interesting. I mean he had a cool sounding job, and he liked the same television series I did, and he was attractive enough, but that was about as far as it went. If I wanted anything more than just getting off on my birthday, that was far from enough.

When we first agreed to get together and see if we were a potential match made in heaven—or at least worthy of a date or two, I thought meeting halfway between our two towns in Scottsdale might be the best route to go. He gave me some song and dance about work, and I caved almost instantly. It wasn’t as if Oak Grove was that far from Mapleville.

So I drove to town and met him at the restaurant we had agreed on, Michelle’s. According to my friend Lucas, who owns the best restaurant I’d ever been to, Michelle’s was an amazing steak house with even better desserts, but wrapped in a casual dining experience. It sounded perfect. Shit, it smelled perfect when I climbed out of my car.

Truth be told, it probably was perfect, but unfortunately, it wasn’t where I was going to be dining. Nope. Because that meant the date had gone well and it so very much had not.

“Are you Thad?” a man sorta resembling the profile picture of the dating app asked. He was taller than me, which as a rule I liked. He was also broader than me, which was another preference of mine. But there was something in his eyes that ruined his face, which in and of itself was perfectly adequate. I couldn’t quite place it, but the gleam in his eye was off—almost creepy.

I shook it off. First impressions might be first, but I’d driven a long way and wanted to at least see the date through.

“I am. And you’re John?” I asked, holding out my hand.

“Obviously. Let’s go.” He grabbed my hand instead of shaking it...right as his scent hit me. Freaking anise. Of course, the one scent that brought me barreling back to a memory of a horrible stomach flu thanks to the awful medicine my dad was sure would help but only exacerbated it—the medicine that smelled like anise.

Any chance I had of this date going beyond this one was completely destroyed. Between his scent, his rudeness, and his lack of personal boundaries, as evident by the way he took hold of my hand, the odds of him and I making it past the restaurant were slim to none.

We walked toward the restaurant door as I tried to figure out the best way to reclaim my hand without being as much of a prick as he was, and then we walked past the restaurant.

“Isn’t this it?” I asked, perplexed.

“We’re going to The Fallen Nut.” He tugged me across the street, and as soon as we reached the other side, I pulled my hand away.

“But you said Michelle’s.” I had no idea where this Fallen Nut was. I sounded like a whiny omega, which was fine. My goal of stopping us where we were was for me to get my bearings more than anything else as my unease built with each passing moment.

“No, I said we would meet at Michelle’s parking lot. It’s free.” Cheap bastard. Oddly, that made me feel more at ease. He was frugal not a serial killer. “The Fallen Nut is just another block up.”

I nodded and followed him. The street was crowded enough, and I could see groups of people going in the direction he had indicated so I felt safe. Groups of people were good. I originally planned to bring Brent and Joaquim with me since the blasted date was their idea, but their baby had an ear infection, and they had to cancel at the last minute. It was a shame too because the two of them were looking forward to their date night and had even booked a private room at Michelle’s for the occasion.

We got to The Fallen Nut, which from the street looked like a hole-in-the-wall and made me feel comfortable. It was totally my kind of place. As he opened the door and walked inside, not even holding it open for me, an alpha leaned over and said to me, “I like me a ginger.” And all of a sudden, John had his freaking arm around me all possessive like.

It was a double shame because the alpha in question was hot as sin, and while I like me a ginger isn’t generally the beginning of a long term relationship, I probably could’ve parlayed it into a quicky birthday blow job easily enough.

We crossed the bar, and it was exactly as I had imagined it from the outside. Small, dark, and filled with people laughing and drinking, and in some cases, getting a little heat on. Under normal circumstances, I’d have loved it. This wasn’t normal circumstances. I just needed to figure out the best way to salvage the evening. There was something not right about John, and pissing him off didn’t feel like my best option. I just hoped he proved me wrong, and he was one of those “get to know him and then you like him” guys—minus the scent. That was something I could never get past.

We wound our way through the crowd, or more accurately, John did with me in tow as we passed by one of the larger tables filled with laughing people.

It was the person at the head of the table who caught every bit of my attention. He was laughing when I first caught a glimpse of him, and the carefree way about it was what first drew me to him, but then it quickly became his jaw. There was something about a strong jaw that just did it for me, and my mind immediately flashed to wanting to nibble the darn thing. When his eyes caught mine, I held them as long as I could before I was yanked away by the alpha I now referred to as caveman in my head. He was taking me to a small booth.

The date wasn’t half as bad as I dreaded initially. I listened to him tell me about his job as a graphic designer, and he asked me a random question here and there, pretending like he gave a shit about what I thought. It was a familiar dance, and while not great, still acceptable.

I stuck with cola as he drank some fancy local beer they had on tap. Normally, I’d have wanted to try it, but I planned on making it an early night, and drinking and driving were never in my plans.

As we sat there, I tried to focus on John and not the sexy man dancing with “not me” and then doing blow jobs off the bartender’s body. Nope. Not focused at all and not even close to being jealous.

  Except I kinda was.

And that was when I realized my potentially fatal mistake. I stirred my cola, a habit that my friends often teased me about, and hit a little resistance at the bottom of the glass, only to look up and find John trying to school his face unsuccessfully.

Grabbing a spoon, I fished out the resistance, and it was a mostly dissolved pill.

  Fuck that.

I stood up, and at the top of my lungs, I screamed, “Bouncer!”

I had no idea if there even was one, but it was the first thing that came to mind. This asshole was going down.

The alcohol was starting to get to me but not so much that I wasn’t keeping my eye on the cutie who kept stealing glances my way. He wasn’t smiling a lot, so I had a feeling his night wasn’t going as well as mine, but that didn’t stop me from ogling him from across the room.

I was on my way to the bathroom again when Danny intercepted me near the jukebox. I really had to take a piss, but I was only a few feet away from my little omega and had a perfect view of his sultry eyes from where I was standing, so I let him keep me there.

“So, there’s a group of five omegas who are about to leave for another bar.” He tilted his head so it was in front of my face, blocking my view. “Are you even listening to me?”
<
br />   “Hmm?” I inched to the left and saw a small smirk on my omega’s face, even though he wasn’t looking at me. “What was that?”

“Dude, pay attention. This is important.”

I tried to focus on Danny even though he was the last thing I cared about right at that moment. “Okay, sorry. What?”

“There are some omegas who invited us to go with them. I told them it’s your birthday and it sounds like they’re open to letting you have a go with each of them if we keep buying them drinks.”

I raised an eyebrow, not liking where he was going with his plan. “They want me to get them drunk and fuck them? Five omegas who haven’t even met yet?”

Danny gave me a guilty grin. “They said we can buy them drinks. I don’t think we need to get them wasted or anything...but they don’t want to spend any money tonight and they’re horny. What’s the problem?”

I rolled my eyes and pushed past him to go to the bathroom. “They’re all yours, dude. I’ll wait for the next one.”

There was a line to get into the bathroom, so it took me ten minutes to get a glance of my little omega again. But as soon as he came into view, he was on his feet and screaming for a bouncer. I rushed forward but a crowd materialized out of nowhere, separating me from the screaming omega with a wall of alpha flesh and muscle.

Not able to get close to him, I walked around the perimeter of the crowd and waited near the exit. Within a minute, two huge bouncers were dragging the alpha who had been with my omega out the front door. He was flailing and trying to hit them, but they kept him subdued until he was out on the street.

I turned back and saw my omega standing near the coat check with a terrified expression on his face. Without considering the consequences, I went straight to him. “Are you okay?”

He looked into my eyes and his breath hitched before glancing away. “Yeah, I’m fine.”
