Then they’d done it again. And again. And again. A few more minutes each time, him moving a bit farther away from her each time.

By the fifth try, she’d been totally calm and in control, and when he’d set her loose, she’d asked for a break so she could eat. They’d done that, and then it was straight back downstairs for more. And more. And yet some more. And here they were, still at it.

He strained to hear through the closed door, but no sounds drifted up the stairs. She may have been crying down there, but she wasn’t hysterical and screaming, and she’d promised to call him if she needed him. So far, nothing. Yeah, she was as tough as hell.

A bit more relaxed now, Warren walked over to the kitchen, opened one of the low cupboards, pulled out six bottles of beer. He opened them all up and then, one by one, dumped the contents down the sink. He rinsed the empty bottles, then added them to the bottles already standing on the floor under the window.

He paused, mentally did some addition, nodded to himself. There were over sixty bottles now, and he thought that was about right, if you figured that he’d been up here for seven days. After all, when somebody showed up, they were going to be working on the assumption that Warren had been doing something while Shay was locked up downstairs. Warren figured that if it looked like he’d spent his time drinking beer after beer and watching porn, they’d be cool with that.

He glanced at his watch again, saw that three more minutes had passed. Cursing time, and the Fallen Angels, and most of all Kirk Fucking Jensen, he went to the fridge, peered inside, trying to decide what to make for a late dinner.

Deciding on salmon with a side salad, he started to prepare the food. Thankfully, that made time start to pick up, and he’d just slid the fish in to the oven to bake for forty-five minutes when his cell alarm went off, signaling that the hour was up.

Warren launched himself at the basement door, flung it open, dashed at break-neck speed down the stairs. What he saw stopped his heart.

Shay was lying there, eyes closed, totally still. Had she passed out from fear and strain? Maybe hyperventilated until her body gave out? If so, how long ago? Why hadn’t she called him if things were that bad?

  Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

“Shay!” He rushed over to her, saw her chest was barely moving. He fumbled with the key, dropped it twice, finally managed to get it in the cuff lock. “Oh, fuck… baby. Baby, talk to me.”

Slowly, her eyes opened, and she blinked up at him in total shock. “Warren?”

“Yeah, it’s me.” He got her other hand free, hauled her to his body, held her close. “You OK?”

“Is it – was than an hour?”

  “Yeah.”

“Oh.” She yawned. “I think I fell asleep.”

  “…You – what?”

  “Fell asleep.”

  “You’re kidding me.”

“Nuh-uh. I was so exhausted, and I remember just thinking that I should close my eyes for one minute. I think that was about forty minutes ago.” She stifled another yawn. “Maybe a bit more.”

“So…” He stroked her hair off her cheeks. “You’re really alright?”

“Yes. I’m sorry if I scared you.”

“Don’t worry about it.” He kissed her lips, a lingering, sweet kiss. “I guess this means that you’re a bit more comfortable with being handcuffed in place?”

“Yeah. I can’t believe it, and it took all goddamn day, but… yeah. I am.” She stretched, and her breasts pushed against his chest. Right away, his cock reared up, as unruly as ever when Shay was around. “Maybe we can do an hour and fifteen minutes now?”

“No,” he said, all growling and alpha, just as she adored him. Her pussy gave a jump at his bossy tone, and her clit was suddenly way, way too sensitive. “That’s enough for today.”

“You sure about that?” she purred, going straight in to the sex-kitten mode that she knew he loved. “You really, totally sure that it’s enough?”

Warren stared down at her, his brow furrowed. “Huh?”

Slowly, Shay lay down. She reached up, and before he’d quite twigged to what she was doing, she’d cuffed her left hand to the bed again.

“Cuff my other hand,” she said. “Please.”

“What… Shay.” He shook his head. “I said no, we’re not doing another hour.”

  “That’s not what I want.”

He stopped, tilted his head at her. “No?”

“No.” She lifted her shirt, and his eyes dropped to her breasts in that tempting purple lace bra. “I want something else.”

“But…” He swallowed hard, finally catching her drift. “You want it like this?”

“Yes.” She moved on the bed now, moved her hips in slow, grinding circles. “I want you to take me, just like this.”

“Shay, I don’t know. Won’t you – won’t you back there? To all that happened?”

“Not with you, I won’t.” She smiled, and he saw that she looked fine. Even happy. “I trust you, babe. Don’t you know that?”

Carefully, he lifted her right arm over her head again, slipped the metal around her wrist. Holding her eyes, he did it up, locked it. The click sounded very loud in the silence of the basement.

“You sure?” he asked one last time, needing to check. “Shay, honey… you completely sure?”

“I am,” she breathed. “Take me, Warren.”

And that was it: Warren was more turned on than he’d ever been. The idea of tying up a woman had never appealed to him much, and the few times that he’d tied his girlfriends to the bed with silk scarves had been only so-so for him. But something about Shay being the one who was all spread out before him, trembling and needy, begging and twisting, trusting him in her vulnerability, was hands-down the fucking hottest thing that he’d ever encountered in the whole of his life.

Barely holding on to his control, he managed to get the condom out of his back pocket, and she laughed.

“You’re carrying condoms around the cabin now, babe?” she teased.

“Fuck, yeah. I am.” Roughly, he yanked her ugly, gray sweat pants and hot purple panties off, hauled his t-shirt up and off, kicked his jeans and boxers down and off. His erect cock sprang out, and she licked her lips as she stared at it. “You make me crazy, Shay.”

“Come here,” she whispered. “I want to taste you.”

He froze, not at all sure about that. “You sure?” he asked, for about the ninetieth time since she’d come to his bed and gotten naked. “Really?”

  “Come. Here.”

He got on his knees on the bed, shuffled forward, and she lifted her head to meet him. With one hand he supported her neck, with the other he took his length and gently guided it to her waiting mouth. She opened to him, opened wide and fully, and he watched as she sucked him in to her sweet, snug warmth.

And he was lost. Lost in that way that means that you’ve finally been found.

“Oh, fuck,” he groaned, rocking his hips back and forth slowly. “Jesus Christ, baby…you feel so good…”

Shay made a small sound, and Warren cursed again as the vibration added a layer of feeling against his hardness. Needing to give some pleasure back, he opened her thighs, delved between them with his fingers. He stroked her lower lips, circled her clit, slipped a finger inside her. Over and over, he spread her arousal all over her, and she loved it, loved his tender touch. Unable to stop it, she gasped and moaned, and his cock jumped in response.

“Not gonna last,” he said brusquely, pulling out of her mouth. “Enough, honey.”

She protested, but he wasn’t listening. He didn’t want to come that way – he wanted to come inside her. He only ever wanted to come inside her, for the whole rest of his life.

Shay watched as he put on the condom, her whole body ready to take him. When he moved between her spread thighs and lifted her long legs straight up
, she strained against the handcuffs, loving being at his mercy. She’d never let another man do this to her, but with Warren, it was all kinds of hot.

“You ready for me, hellcat?” he growled, on his knees and gripping her thighs. “Gonna come hard?”

  “Yes,” she gasped. “Yes…”

He guided his length to her slick folds, probed gently. She arched up, her whole body begging, and then he slid in all the way, in one glide. She froze, stunned at the ease with which her body had just let him in, and then she exhaled, hard.

“Yes?” he asked her softly, not moving yet. “Say ‘yes’ to me, Shay.”

The word fell from her lips as naturally as her own breath. “Yes.”

“That’s my girl.” Carefully, Warren hooked her legs over his shoulders, turned his head and pressed a kiss to her injured leg. “You are mine, right?”

“Yes,” she whispered. “All yours. Just yours.”

Warren withdrew slowly, almost all the way to the tip, then thrust back in. He thumbed her little button, watching the pleasure as it moved over her face. “And is this mine, too?”

“Yes,” she moaned, trying to push back against his finger, needing that dizzying pressure. “Yes, yes, yes. It’s all yours.”

“Say it again.” He withdrew, surged back in, harder now. “Say you’re mine.”

“I’m yours!” she cried. “Oh, God, I’m yours!”

“And this sweet pussy?” He thumbed her faster, made love to her faster. “Whose is it?”

“Yours!” She was almost crazed with the need for him to just fuck her now. “Warren, please…”

He plunged in to her as quickly as he could, didn’t let up on her nub even one little bit. Using her feet on his shoulders for leverage, she came right up off the bed, and he cupped her ass in both hands to hold her in the air. In this position, her hips tilted in a whole new way and his cock went deeper than anyone had ever been inside her. She gave a wild cry, stared up at him with hungry need.

“Feel me, baby.” He slammed in to her body without pause, ground his pelvic bone against her clit with every thrust. “Feel every inch of me.”

“I – I…” She shut her eyes, bit her lip. “I feel you. I’ll always feel you.”

At her words, he froze, just totally stopped moving. Stunned, her eyes flew open again, and he pinned her with that intense blue stare that she loved.

“Promise me you won’t forget,” he said quietly.

  ”Forget what?”

“None of it. This. Me.” He withdrew a bit, stroking her sex as he did, slid back in. “Us.”

“Never.” Tears were threatening, and she forced them back. This wasn’t the time for crying. This was the most beautiful moment of her entire life, and she was damned if she was going to remember it with any sadness at all. “Never, babe.”

“Now come for me,” he grated out. “Come hard, and you scream my name.”

Helplessly and bang on cue, just like he’d pushed a button or flipped a switch, her body did as Warren commanded it to do. Shay shook, shuddered, called his name over and over. She was still coming when he thrust deep and held himself there, his release so strong that he saw stars and lost himself completely.

“Shay,” he rasped. “Shay… I love you, baby. Love you so fucking much.”

“I love you, too,” she said brokenly, her pussy still fluttering around him, grasping him like gentle, loving hands. “I’m yours, Warren… don’t let me go. Please.”

“Oh, Christ,” he groaned as he came down. “I can’t let you go, kitten. I can’t.”

Still deep inside her, he lowered her trembling legs to the bed, unlocked the cuffs, then stretched himself on top of her, balancing most of his weight on his forearms. He took her mouth in a kiss so sweet and tender, Shay blinked back tears again. These tears weren’t tears of impending loss, though. They were tears of the most pure, perfect happiness; tears of finally knowing where she belonged, and with who. To who. They were tears of rightness.

No, nothing had ever been right in this whole mess… nothing but him. And now things were going to get seriously fucking complicated. More complicated.

Or maybe they were finally going to be simple. Maybe it was all going to make sense, for the first time.

Maybe she was coming home at long last.

Cradled in his large arms, Shay felt his heart beating against her own chest and she searched his eyes for any sign that he was sorry for what he’d said, or that he’d changed his mind about not letting her go. But all she saw when she looked at the man that she loved was that he loved her in return. No backing down, no waffling or wavering, no damn take-backs.

God. We’re really going to do this.

“How are we going to do this?” she asked him.

Warren didn’t even hesitate. “We’re running from all of it, Shay. We’re running together.”

  **

The next morning, right after breakfast, Warren and Shay went back down to the basement. Without any hesitation, without an ounce of fear, she reclined on the bed and raised her arms above her head.

Warren locked her left hand in the cuff, then gave her face a hard, quick caress. “OK, kitten?”

  “Yes.”

  “Sure?”

“Yeah. I’m OK, I promise you.”

“Good.” He pressed the handcuff key in to her right hand, and she closed around it, gripping it hard. “Now. Tell me one more time what you’re gonna do.”

“I’m going to stay down here, just in case someone comes while you’re out making the call. If someone shows up, I’m to hide the key under the pillow. You’ll unlock me when you get back.”

“And if something happens, and I don’t come back?” he asked, his face and voice both hard.

She swallowed. “I wait for one hour. If you aren’t back by then, then I…”

“Say it, Shay. Say it all.”

“Then I have to assume that something’s seriously wrong, and I have to get the hell out of here. I unlock the cuff, and I grab the extra gun in the bedroom, and I run.”

“And you don’t look back,” he added.

  “Yes.”

  “Say it.”

  “I – I don’t look back.”

“You don’t go after me. You don’t wait for me. You don’t look for me, ever again. You figure that something bad’s happened, and you figure that I’m gone. We don’t know if my calls are being monitored, or if we’re being watched. I may go out there and get shot down, and if that happens, you need to get the fuck away. You take all your guts, and all your rage, and all your smarts, and you go out in to the world, and you make a good life for yourself.”

Shay took a breath. The thought of trying to build a life without Warren was painful, to the point of death. But no way she was going to go that way. Not this time. If she lost him and then just gave up and took her own life, or wasted away rejecting love and living alone, it’d be nothing but a slap to his face.

If he was going to die saving her, then the least she could do for him was live. Really, really live.

Even if it was a shadow of the life that she wanted, a faint echo of the life that she craved. She’d do it; she’d do it for him.

He carried on now. “If someone comes here intent on harming you, you get free and you do your Ninja shit and you hurt them. Hurt them bad enough to get to the gun, and then you kill them. No doubts and no regrets, baby.” His cold blue gaze bore in to her like a drill of ice. “Clear?”

  “Warren…”

  “Clear?” he snapped.

  “Yes,” she whispered.

“One last thing,” he said gruffly.

She nodded, her throat too tight to actually articulate words.

“You’re trusting me to call for help, to call someone you don’t know, who I say can get us to freedom,” he said. “You’re
also trusting me to come back and get you, and I get that that’s a lot of trust. But I’m trusting you here, too. I’m trusting you to not run the second I walk out that front door.”

Stunned, her mouth dropped open.”I’d never –”

“And I believe you.” His face gentled. “I do. I’m also trusting you to save yourself, if that’s what it comes down to. Can you promise me that?”

  “Yes.”

  “Say it again.”

  “I promise.”

“OK, then.” He stared down at her for a few seconds, then planted his hands on either side of her head. He lowered his lips to hers, and he kissed her. He kissed her like this may be the last time this ever happened, and she felt it.

With a gasp, she pulled her mouth away, clung to his t-shirt with her free hand. “Warren… don’t do that.”

  “What?”

“Kiss me like you’re never going to do it again. You will.”

He smiled, and she saw that it was a half-smile, one designed to soothe her fears, but not one that made any promises. He stood up then, gave her one last, long look.

“I’m going now,” he said. “You stay here and stay calm. OK?”

  She nodded.

“I love you, Shay. You know that, right?”

“I do.” She smiled through her sudden tears. “I love you, too.”

  “I know, baby.”

  “Come back to me, alright?”

“I’ll do anything that I have to do to make that happen.” His eyes were the eyes of a killer, and she shivered. “Anything. And I won’t ever feel bad about doing any of it, if it means getting to you, and keeping you safe.”

  “I know.”

Warren touched her soft cheek one more time, then abruptly – before he could start to feel any worry or doubt – he was heading up the stairs.

  And then he was gone.

  **

Warren shrugged on his heavy leather jacket, headed out the front door. He turned left, knowing that there were cabins and businesses in that direction, so the chance of getting a cell signal was semi-decent.
