“Bajoc and Marcie’s fault. That Bajoc does look like a watcher,” Virginia agreed. “Probably how he got that scar on his face.”

“I imagine so,” Joy said sadly. “Well, I’m off to the bath. I need plenty of time to pick the perfect sexy outfit for tonight.”

Mostly because it would be harder than ever to entice Rojan to take her virginity now that he was being so uptight.

  * * * * *

What if he decided not to pick her up for their date? Worse, what if he sent one of his men down to tell her they were cancelled? Oh, the humiliation. Joy sat up in the tub quickly. Time had gotten away from her as she relaxed in the bath.

Plus, she’d lingered longer because if she had any bugs from sitting on the same toilet as Virginia, she wanted to make sure they were good and drowned.

“Joy? It’s been an hour since you’ve been in the tub. And you have a visitor.” Tris called out.

“I’ll be right there.” Quickly, Joy toweled off and dressed, and then headed toward the living room.

“Oh, good, your hair is wet. I’m here to fancy you up for your date,” Raine said, setting her teacup down. Titi sat on her lap, waving excitedly to Joy. “Don’t mind Titi. I promised Lara I’d keep an eye on her for just a couple hours.”

“Of course I don’t mind. Would you like to come to my bedroom?”

The three of them moved back there, where Titi promptly rolled on the bed. “Do not tell your mother I allow you to jump on the bed,” Raine warned. “Remember the monkeys?”

“Three little monkeees, jumping on the bed. One felled off and broke up her head.”

“Yes. So stay in the middle and mum’s the word.”

  “Mum!”

With her hand in the small of Joy’s back, Raine seated her in a small chair near the vanity and began brushing out her hair.

“Raine? Can I ask you something personal?”

  “Of course.”

“I’ve been getting these sex lessons from Jannie, and I don’t really know if I understand them completely.”

Titi’s tuneless voice started, the pitch moving up and down. “S-E-X. X-E-D. Find out what you do to me. Just a lil bit. Just a lil bit.” Sang Titi as she jumped. She squatted, pointed her index finger at them and waggled it a bit as she waggled her rear. “Just a lil bit. Just a lil bit.”

“What are you confused on, honey?” Raine asked her. “Don’t beat yourself up about not understanding. I’m not saying anything bad about Jannie’s lessons, but she’s a bit distracted with trying to get Chautles into the sack all the time. But the other person who offered to teach you all was Anita, and well…she’s a little extreme. Doesn’t have a lot in the tact area, so I think they were afraid to let her go at it.”

“Well, Jannie says the men think we’re loosy goosy and are afraid we have diseases.”

  “Oh, wanton women syndrome, huh?”

“I-I’m so looonesome, I could cry. The moon just went behind the clouds. To hide her face, before she dies. I’m so lonesome I could cry.” Titi’s voice wailed in the distance.

“Honey, there are different standards for men than there are women. Especially on your planet. If a man is…what did you call it? Loosy goosy? If a man is loose, he’s considered experienced. If a women is…well, suddenly she’s the bringer of disease. So what you have to do is manipulate the male mindset. Appeal to his primal instincts. What is the base need every man has? To own his own woman. So as long as you pledge to be his, all the past falls away.”

“That’s it? That’s all it takes? Because he would hardly look at me earlier.”

“Trust me. On your date tonight, you tell him he’s the only one in your life. Watch as he walks through fire for you. He’ll defend you against the entire planet.”

“That’s what I want,” Joy said. “I don’t care that I’m gonna die. I just want to experience life first. I don’t want to die with this disease, virginity!”

“Of course not, honey,” Raine soothed. “None of us do. Some of us get rid of it at fourteen.”

  Joy’s eyes widened.

Titi broke out in a new song. “You’re the one that I want. Yoo, hoo, hoo, honey. The one I need. Yes, indeed.”

Joy began to tap her foot. That one was a catchy tune.

“Well, maybe Anita did,” Raine confided. “I was more like—eighteen.”

“Eighteen! That was so long ago. It seemed like I sneezed…and suddenly I was twenty-eight and never been kissed.”

“On top of spaghet-Titi…all covered with cheeeese. I lost my poor meatball…when Joy-sie sneeee-heeezed.”

“There. Hair fit for a princess about to be queen.” Raine whirled her chair to see the stunning sight in the mirror.

“It’s absolutely regal,” Joy breathed. She’d twisted small braids coming from Joy’s temples, forming a crown across the wavy tresses. It was simply glorious. Raine was definitely the best at what she did.

“And so are you. Listen, it’s all about attitude. You go into this date with attitude. Rojan will sense it and want it. That’s all you have to do.”

“But I don’t exactly know how one loses the disease of virginity,” Joy said, glancing at Titi, afraid she was picking up on too much of their conversation.

“Leave it up to Rojan. He’ll know what to do. You just be a willing partner and tomorrow, after this date, I’ll bet you you’ll be one of us.” Raine gave her a sure smile.

One of them. A human. No greater honor existed.

“I shall be honored,” Joy said, bowing her head regally.

“Come along, Spaghet-Titi.” Raine scooped the purple toddler off the bed and swung her onto a hip. “Let’s leave Jo to get dressed.”

  Chapter Ten

“Jo? Baub’s here,” Virginia called out. Why in the world would her sister be telling her? She popped her head into the living area to ask.

Baub and Virginia were staring at each other with lovesick eyes.

Baub cleared his throat, but barely broke contact. “I’m here to escort you to the ship. Rojan has reserved the dining space.”

  “Oh. Okay.”

  “I’ll see you tomorrow, Baub.”

“You will,” he promised, kissing Virginia. Joy all but sighed. There didn’t seem to be any issues in their relationship. Why couldn’t she get hers right?

Baub walked her through the narrow path in the woods to get to the ship. She hoped she looked all right. She wore a loose black skirt, layers of sheer fabric hiding her form. She paired it with an emerald-green, long sleeved top that tied into a knot just under her breasts, leaving the pale skin of her stomach exposed. She thought she looked sexy, but more importantly, the outfit allowed easy access. He could easily push aside the material of her blouse to get to her breasts and the gauzy panels of fabric would part to tantalize him with another secret.

  She wasn’t wearing panties.

The other two crew members were standing at attention outside the ship, guarding the doors.

“This way,” Viktel said, holding out an arm. The doors swooshed open and she was on the ramp that approached the inside. “Go down the hallway and to the left. A door at the end will open for you and Rojan will be there.”

  “Thank you.”

She walked down the long hall he’d indicated, and sure enough a door opened. Rojan had been seated on a loveseat, but he jumped to his feet as the door opened.

“Hi.” Rojan’s blue eyes darkened slightly as he stared at her.

“Hi.” Her voice was soft as she took in his magnificent physique. After years of having men who lined up with your crotch, it was a welcome change to be able to look upward toward the large Freijians. Even his horns were sexy—large and protruding—with what looked like a smooth texture, marbled in various shades of blue. His face was lean, his neck thick with muscle. The ropes of muscle bulged into his shoulders and down his beefy arms. His waist was trim and lean, but yet his chest was massive. She’d love to look at the entire form of him completely nude.
r />   Her heartbeat quickened with her naughty thoughts and her breath caught. Her tongue wet her lips, and she noticed his eyes glued to the pink tip where it licked.

“Thank you for coming. You look beautiful.”

“Thank you.” She did think the soft green complimented her hair. Her dingbat sisters—thoughtful as they were—had done well with the surprise of retrieving Raine. She felt like a completely different person from the frumpy Puritan she had been before. Plus, she had the great advice from Raine. “I—I have a proposition for you.” Now that she had to voice it, it was a little difficult to spit out. She took a deep breath. “I’d like us to take the next step in our relationship. I mean, who knows how long we have before you close your case and find what you’re looking for.” She gulped. For all she knew, closing his case could mean having to wipe her from existence. “I’d like to enjoy what little time we have left. So far we keep getting interrupted…”

Rojan was staring intently at her. “Anything you want.”

“And I don’t want any more interruptions. I’d like to plunge ahead with you.”

“Jo, I have to know…are there any others? I know the Citrine Seven crew has landed…”

“What? No. Why do you think that?”

“No reason,” he assured her. But suddenly it dawned on her. The STD rumors. He thought she was loosy goosy, just as Jannie mentioned. Of course! She felt proud that she was finally figuring out all these sexual innuendos.

“I guess I wasn’t clear in my meaning of relationship,” she said. “I meant, by the next step in ours, is I’d like for us to be exclusive.” She leaned in closer. “You are the only one that I want. You, hoo, hoo, honey.” She couldn’t help but tap her foot a bit to the beat.

“Even though you know I’ll be leaving?”

She nodded sadly. “I’ll enjoy the time I have left with you and hope one day your path returns you this way for a visit every now and then.”

“Jo, are you sure about this?” He brought both of his hands up to frame her face as he kissed her lips tenderly.

She kissed him back. When he pulled away, she said, “Very sure. I’m ready.”

He led her to the small loveseat where he had been sitting and he sat down, rather uncomfortably. The hard bulge between his legs already seemed prominent. He pulled her to him, and she straddled his lap.

“I missed you,” she said. “I missed this.” Her small hand reached down between them to caress it. She felt like she owned it. It was hers, this bulge that arose whenever he was around her.

“Jo, I want you so bad.” His voice was thick with need. “You have no idea. If nothing else, I’d like to at least pleasure you.” His breath caught as she lowered her pelvis and began to grind on top of his sex.

“I have dinner prepared,” he gasped out.

“We’ll eat afterward.” No more interruptions. She was ready to become a human, wanton woman. She loosened the silky black shirt he wore from his pants, unbuttoning it slowly, and then pushing it open. The artificial lights from the ship danced over the smooth, glowing skin, caressing the tightly muscled planes of his chest, and rippled over his ridged abdomen before they disappeared into the waistband of his pants.

She placed her hand right over the tattooed number displayed across him, and his warm skin flexed underneath her palm.

“You’re so beautiful,” she said. Perhaps he would think she was just as beautiful? Because if so, she wanted him to feel the same pleasure she was feeling. So she reached down and unclasped the knot between her breasts, releasing the fabric. It fell away, leaving her naked to the waist.

Rojan pushed the fabric off her shoulders and down her arms. Then he placed a large hand on her breast, and rubbed his thumb over the nipple.

  She gasped.

Rojan leaned forward and kissed the expanse of her neck. She tilted her head, baring her throat for him.

A beep came over the loudspeaker. “Captain.”

He continued to press kisses along her neck, so for a second she thought she imagined the voice.

“Captain.” Vaguely her brain registered the second incoming message. But Rojan didn’t seem to be stopping, so neither did she.

And the bulge felt magnificent where it pressed against her pleasure-spot. She began to rotate her hips over the spot, dipping and releasing, teasing and pleasuring them both.

  “Captain Rojan.”

  “What!?” Rojan barked.

She winced and froze in place.

“There is a couple on board the ship who says it’s urgent that they speak to you and Jo. It’s Chautles and Jannie.”

“We’re in the middle of our date.” Rojan sounded frustrated.

“They are aware of that.” The voice responded. “They say this is urgent.”

  “We’re coming.”

He turned his attention back to her. “We just can’t seem to get this planned properly,” he said ruefully. “Even on board my ship. We may need to blast into the skies next time.” He planted his hands firmly on her waist and stared at her naked breasts, but did nothing more than lick his lips. “You are so beautiful. I don’t dare touch you again. Not until we see what the hell it is they want. But I can give you a promise for later.”

He bent his head and placed a kiss on each nipple. Joy felt a shiver run down her spine and she arched her back.

“So responsive,” he murmured. “My Jo.”

The voice cut in again. “Captain, they said they’ll wait just outside.”

  “We’re coming!” he snapped.

Joy slowly rose from his lap, and bent to retrieve her lost top. It felt different now, dressing in front of him. So intimate.

He shifted the beast in his crotch, and took her hand as they walked out the hall and down the ramp to the outer doors. Chautles flagged him down as soon as they got outside, and took him to a corner of the ship to whisper.

Jannie was waiting for her. “There you are! I spoke to Raine who told me what happened earlier. I’m not sure how you misunderstood the whole STD thing. It could be because I’ve never actually had one myself—“

“You haven’t? But Jannie, I thought you said the others wanted you to give us lessons because you were so worldly?”

“I am, I am,” she assured her. “But I’ve never given lessons to one as innocent as you. And I am rather mysterious. It appears we’ve had some miscommunication. So while I’m sorry to break your tete-a-tete with Rojan, but Raine and I felt that you needed help before plunging ahead with something unknown.”

“Again,” Joy sighed. “You’re right, of course. Both of you. I should have canceled tonight until I had another lesson. No, you did the right thing in interrupting the date.” Though with the frustration level, it certainly didn’t feel like it.

The mysterious Jannie of Arc seemed to know. “Plus, Chautles really needed to relay some information to Rojan. Business related.”

Joy gulped. “Is it regarding the Puritans?

Jannie looked away. “I don’t think so, sweetie. I think it has something to do with some news of their home planet. Chautles would have mentioned something otherwise. But the good news is”—she leaned in to whisper—“Echo Nine will have a mission to run. Hopefully Rojan will want a hot date with you before he goes.”

  “Do you think so?”

Jannie nodded. “I heard that much. Shh, now.”

Chautles began to make his way toward them, so Joy moved to where Rojan stood. He clasped her against his rock-hard body in full view of the other couple.

Joy felt her heart pitter-patter. He was taking her up on her offer of exclusivity. They were officially a couple.

“I’m sorry, Rojan. I can’t believe we had yet another interruption.”

“I know a place to resolve the interruption problem.” His voice was soft, and deeply sexy.

  “How?” she whispered, enthralled.

“My ship still. But this time in space. Tomorrow my crew and I are going to check the galaxy, a few space stations,
make sure the Puritans haven’t been seen anywhere nearby.”

“I’ll be on the ship with your entire crew?” Not that she didn’t feel safe with him, but she’d never—not once in her life—had ever been alone with one male, much less four. Dear Green Goddess, did she dare plunder into the realm of an orgy?

He looked surprised. “I wouldn’t separate you from your sisters. I thought we could all go. They’ll have their own rooms. But you…I thought you could stay with me. If you want to.”

Her breath caught in her throat. Orgy nixed. “I’d—I’d love that.”

He nodded and looked relieved. “Let’s get you packed up tonight, after dinner. In the morning, we’ll take off.”

She’d never been so eager to end a date.

He smoothly turned her to walk her home, but instead Jannie still waited. “She’ll be fine.” Jannie assured him. “I’ll help her pack for her weekend getaway in the morning.”

  Rojan’s face froze.

Joy wondered briefly how Jannie knew about the getaway, but Jannie of Arc did assure her she was rather mysterious on her home planet.

So she turned her face up to Rojan for a kiss goodbye. It felt so familiar now. He whispered against her lips as he pressed something small into her hand. “Late at night, when you lay in bed thinking of me, you can text me a message.”

“I thought communications weren’t allowed on the planet? Aren’t the electrical waves what allowed the babies to be kidnapped?”

“Yes, but this insta-text is the plug in to my communication device. The only place it links is that device, where I have a duplicate screen. Think of it as your old-fashioned human walkie-talkies, but without voice compatibility. Written word only.”

“Okay,” she said eagerly, kissing him again. She had no idea what walkie-talkies were, but she couldn’t give that away. She slipped the small square device into her pocket, and headed out with Jannie.

Her stomach and her lady bits growled painfully, reminding her of her ruined date. Ah, well, at least she could look forward to this lesson to untangle her sexual miscommunications.
