CHAPTER 12
“Well, you did the right thing, Vanessa. I’m proud of you,” Ava said with a smile as we walked into school after being at the police station for almost two hours.
I smiled back at her. “Well, it was the right thing and the only thing to do. They said that they could quite possibly know whose DNA it is on the can and rose by the end of the day today since it could already be on file. When I said that we had to give our DNA at DNA Day on Monday, they said that it’ll take a few more weeks to get every one of ours in the database since so many of us go here and everyone, not just the students, had to give theirs. If it was someone who didn’t go here then I’ll conclude that it was just some maniac, but nonetheless, I’m glad I reported it.”
“Exactly. Even if you knew for sure that it wasn’t someone that went here, it was right to report it.”
We approached our lockers.
I looked at my watch. “Damn, it’s almost second period. I might as well tell you that Brad had me excused for this period, too.”
She grinned at me. “Did he really?! He had you excused and not me? Hmm . . . I wonder why!” she said with a chuckle.
I laughed. “Well, he said that he wanted to hear what I had to say about the report I filed.”
“Really? Is that all?” she said while she continued to grin at me.
“Yeah, that’s all,” I tried to assure her as I returned the grin.
“Okay, I want details about your little talk with him . . . or lack thereof.”
“Ava!” I said with a laugh. “Okay, he did say that he wanted to spend some time alone with me in his office because we haven’t done that yet, and just remember, we can’t be openly affectionate towards each other all out in the halls like this because of the obvious.”
“Yeah, I know. I swear he needs to be done with Lisa like yesterday!” she laughed.
“Well, I can’t do anything about that — it’s all up to him when he wants to end it with her since he did say that he’s not happy in his relationship with her.”
“Yeah, that’s because he wants to be in an open one with you.”
I smiled. “Well, he did say that, but all I can do is just wait and see if it really happens.”
The bell rang for second period.
“See you later,” she said with a grin.
“Okay,” I said as I returned the grin once again.
As I walked towards the administration office since that was where Brad’s office was, I passed Marie and Natalie on the way. Marie had her arm around Natalie as she cried; they didn’t see me. I had to wonder once again why Natalie seemed so upset lately, but it was really none of my business. I thought about this as I opened the door to the administration office, said hi to the secretaries, and then went straight to Brad’s office since he told me that he’d told them that I had an appointment with him.
I knocked on Brad’s door since it was halfway opened.
He was sitting at his desk; he looked up at me and smiled. “Hey, Vanessa.”
“Hi,” I said while I walked in. I shut the door behind me.
He got up from his desk. He walked towards me with a smile, and then walked past me towards the door . . . and locked it.
I looked at him with a grin. “Now what did you do that for?”
“I want us to have more privacy,” he said with a smile. He looked me up and down as he walked past me again. He went back behind his desk and sat down. “Have a seat.”
I sat in the chair right in front of his desk. “You have a very nice office; it looks better than Winston’s.”
He laughed. “Yeah, I hear that a lot. What were you doing in Winston’s office?”
“I had to drop off something for him from another teacher the first week of school. His office is nice since he’s the principal, but your office is fuckin’ nice!”
He laughed again as he sat slumped down in his chair. “Well, since I’m the school’s president, I do invite a lot of people in here to talk about various things and to have meetings in here as well, so I have to keep it looking nice.”
I nodded with a smile. I looked around his desk and saw pictures of him and Lisa together, as well as some with her by herself. There was also a picture of a very attractive older couple that were obviously his parents. I couldn’t help but stare at all of the pictures that he had of Lisa, and this assured me that he still had strong feelings for her despite him telling me that he wasn’t happy in his relationship with her.
He kept staring at me with that killer smile. “So, tell me about your trip to the cops this morning.”
I chuckled. “Well, I did what I said that I was gonna do. I told the cop at the front desk that I wanted to report an attempted hit-and-run because since the person didn’t hit me it was attempted, but I felt that they sure as hell tried to. He directed me to a cop who dealt in these incidents, and I just told that cop the story that I told you, Ava, and my parents. I gave him the can that the driver threw out of the car at me, as well as the rose that was in my vase — and I told him that this was the second time that I’ve gotten into my car and there was a rose in my vase that wasn’t there before. He asked me how often do I lock my doors to my car, I told him that I lock them all the time, but someone keeps breaking into my car and putting a rose in the vase. But he said that it was fantastic that I had the instincts to collect both items to give it to them — I told him that I’m thinking about pursuing a career in DNA so it was natural to do, and that he should be personally thanking you as well since you organized the DNA Day that was held on Monday. He also told me that I could find out as early as today the results of the DNA found on the can and rose.”
“Damn, that fast, huh? I hope we do find out once and for all. But if it was someone from here, it might take longer since everyone at this school just gave their DNA on Monday.”
“That’s what he said, so I won’t be surprised if I don’t hear from him until a few weeks from now if it was someone from here.”
He nodded with a smile. “Well, I’m glad you took care of your business, baby. That’s what I like, a woman who takes control of things.”
I nodded with a smile. “And that’s what I do.”
He continued to smile at me. “Come here — you’re too far away.”
I grinned as I got up out of my seat. I came over by him and stood in front of him as he continued to sit in his luxury leather reclining chair.
He took both of my hands and pulled me closer to him. “Sit on me, baby.”
I smiled as I sat on him. I laid my head on him as he held me. I felt like we were in his house. “Thanks for getting me excused for these first two periods — I needed it. My parents actually said that I could’ve stayed at home today, but I told them that I was fine and that I could come to school today.”
“I’m glad you did. I can’t go a day without seeing you here,” he said as he stroked my hair.
I looked at him as I smiled.
We started kissing.
I positioned myself in a straddle position on him as we kissed very passionately, and I could tell by the way that this was turning me on that our like for each other was genuine and not some hot, lustful fling. I was into him and he was into me, and I was hoping that one day we could show everyone that it was meant to be between us all along.
He looked at me. “You wanna do it in here, baby? Huh? I got some condoms in my drawer.”
I grinned. “Now I know why you locked the door.”
He laughed. “I knew you knew!”
“You know that I want it from you anywhere I can get it,” I said, and unbuttoned my jeans.
He pulled open one of his drawers and got a condom out of it; he laid it on his desk. “But first, can you gimme some of that good head that you gave me in my SUV at the club that first night?”
I grinned. “Sure, baby,” I said. I unbuttoned his jeans . . . .
And there was the sound of someone putting a key into the door of Brad’s office!
“F
uck!” I said, and jumped to the floor and underneath his desk!
The door opened!
“Hey, baby . . .”
It was Lisa!
“Lisa! How come you didn’t call me or text me to tell me that you were coming here? I could’ve been in a meeting!” Brad said with a clear sound of irritation and anger in his voice, as I could see him scrambling to straighten himself up.
“I did — you obviously didn’t check your phone,” Lisa said. She sat down in front of his desk.
He picked up his phone on his desk. “Sorry about that. What’s up? How come you’re out of class early? You know that I can’t get you excused from classes that you miss just so you can come in here to see me.”
“I haven’t gotten in trouble for missing any class — not one — so you know by now that you don’t have to try and get me excused because everyone in this school knows that I’m your girlfriend, so teachers don’t bother me or even report me as having an unexcused absence. I guess that’s the perks of being your girlfriend,” she said with a smile.
She certainly gets perks for being his girlfriend . . . but for how much longer? I thought. I tried to stay as quiet as I could as I sat very still underneath his desk. I couldn’t believe that this was happening. I had to wonder already was I degrading myself by being underneath the desk of the guy that I was secretly seeing while his girlfriend talked to him . . . I tried not to think that I was.
“Well? What did you wanna talk to me about?” Brad asked.
Lisa sighed. “Well, you know that Natalie is in my first-period class, and she was pretty much crying throughout it. I know that her and Marc broke up months ago, but has he talked to you about her? I mean, she keeps telling me that she’s trying to get him back, but we all know that he doesn’t want her back.”
Brad sighed. “Lisa, Marc hasn’t told me anything about wanting Natalie back. Since they broke up, he has never mentioned her to me, and I’m his best friend so he tells me everything, so you know that he hasn’t changed his mind in the least bit. Natalie needs to just move on because if it is Marc that she’s constantly crying about, she’s wasting a lot of tears.”
“I know. Marie and I have tried to tell her that there are so many other guys, but she’s still very stuck on him. I feel sorry for her that their relationship didn’t last like ours has.”
I listened very intensely to see what Brad was gonna say about this.
“Well, I don’t wanna talk about us, Lisa. You came in here to talk about Natalie, and you did that. The bell is gonna ring in less than ten minutes so you should be getting to class,” he said.
I heard her get up from her seat . . . and heard her walk over to him! He sprung up out of his seat as if it was on fire! I continued to stay underneath the desk as I was now paralyzed with fear that she was gonna see me underneath here! He slowly moved his chair backwards where it blocked the part underneath his desk so she couldn’t see me.
“I wanna quickie,” she said with a smile.
I put my hand over my mouth so I wouldn’t be heard gasping!
“Sorry, Lisa, I’m not in the mood,” he replied.
I took my hand off over my mouth as I smiled because this showed me that he was serious about not being happy with her since he wasn’t even interested in a quickie, because most guys would not have turned that down even if there was another girl hiding underneath a desk like I was.
“Oh, come on, baby! You’re usually always in the mood!” she said. “What’s that condom doing on the top of your desk?”
I tried not to gasp! I forgot that he had taken it out of the drawer before we were gonna have sex!
“I was looking for something in that drawer but I couldn’t find it and forgot to put it back in,” he lied.
She gave him a look of suspicion. “Well, since it’s out, we might as well use it,” she said with a grin.
“The bell is about to ring, Lisa, and I need to get to class myself so I’ll see you later.”
“Whatever!” she said.
I heard her practically stomp off from him, and from the sound of dangling charms, I could tell that she snatched her bag off of his chair. I heard the door open, and then surprisingly close gently. I heard the door lock again.
Seconds later, Brad moved the chair out of way where I was hiding. He bent down and smiled at me.
“Hey. As you heard, she’s gone.” He grabbed on to my hands and helped me out from under the desk.
“Wow. That was close. So you really weren’t expecting her, huh?”
“Not at all. Otherwise, I would’ve told you to come here at another time.”
“I guess she’s pissed about your pass on the quickie, huh?”
He laughed. “She’ll get over it!”
“I didn’t know she had a key to your office,” I said with a grin.
He grinned back at me. “Yeah, she does. I gave her one because she pretty much begged me for one. She’s had it since I became president this year. She’s surprised me a few times by decorating in here for special events and stuff, that’s why she said that she wanted her own key. But I think she wanted one to come in here like the way she did, that’s why I always tell her to call or text me before she comes and she did, but I didn’t see it this time since we were getting it on.”
I grinned back at him. “And if you’d seen that she said she was on her way here, I would’ve been able to get out of here without her seeing me, even though she didn’t see me underneath the desk.”
“Yeah, you would’ve been able to!”
We laughed, and then embraced each other.
“Brad, I don’t want another close call like that,” I said.
“Neither do I,” he replied with a smile.
The bell rang for third period.
“Well, I gotta get my things out of my locker, then I’m off to study hall,” I said.
“Okay, see you later.”
I walked out of the administration office and Lisa was standing here! It was as if she was waiting for me!
“Hey, Vanessa,” she said with a smile.
“Hi, Lisa,” I replied with a smile as I tried not to show how panicked I got because I felt as if she was waiting for me.
“I didn’t see you in the administration office; I was just in there a few minutes ago. I was in Brad’s office so maybe that’s why we missed each other,” she informed me.
“Yeah, that’s why. Well, I just stopped in there to give one of the secretaries my excuse for being late this morning,” I lied.
She nodded with a smile as she still stared at me. I had a strong feeling that she didn’t believe me.
Brad walked out of the office; he looked shocked to see us talking to each other. “Hey, Vanessa.”
“Hi, Brad,” I replied with a smile as if it was the first time that we’d seen each other today.
“Well, the bell is about to ring so I gotta get to class,” Brad said.
“See you later, Vanessa,” Lisa said with a not-so-genuine-looking smile.
I nodded with a smile as Brad and I stared at each other. Suddenly, Lisa grabbed Brad’s hand and pulled him away from me as they walked to their next class. I stood in the same spot as I watched them walk off as they still held hands. I sighed as I walked in the opposite direction to my locker. There was no more doubt in my mind that Lisa was definitely on to Brad and me, and I didn’t need any proof to believe it.
CHAPTER 13
“What is she doing in this lunch period? Everyone knows that she doesn’t have lunch this hour,” Ava said.
“I know. She’s on to me and Brad, and this is proving it. I’m seeing it now that she doesn’t want him alone anywhere when she knows for sure that I’m gonna be around,” I said.
“Well, she can’t be around in your seventh-period class that you have with him.”
“Yeah, that’s the only exception. But as you see, she’s gonna try very hard to be with him whenever she can, even if it means skipping class so she can have lunch with him even
though she has it next hour. Like I told you in my texts that I sent you during my study hall, she mentioned the perks that she has because she’s his girlfriend, and that she didn’t get in trouble at all for unexcused absences.”
“Well, she may think she’s all that now because she’s still with him, but she’ll never know when she can become a regular student like all the rest of us. I told you she thinks she’s God’s gift because she’s Brad’s girlfriend; she’s thought that since freshman year.”
“Yeah, I know she has, but who wouldn’t if they were Brad’s girlfriend?”
“True!”
We sat at our designated table for two in the upperclassman cafeteria as we watched Lisa feed Brad his lunch of tender chicken strips and fries as she sat on his lap like she was doing at Sparkle that one night. She laughed as she alternated from flinging her head back and laughing — even though I didn’t see anyone really laughing at anything at their table — to feeding Brad as she obviously had Marc take pictures or videos of it with her phone as their other friends watched. I couldn’t help but notice that out of all of Brad’s friends, John wasn’t sitting there.
“I wonder where John is? He seems to be missing lunch a lot lately,” I said.
“Well, maybe he has it off campus like the way we do at times. I mean, Brad and Marc aren’t his only friends,” she said.
“Very true,” I said. I continued to stare at Lisa and Brad. “Like I told you, Ava, while I texted you about what happened second period, I really think she’s on to me. I can’t believe that I was underneath his desk almost fuckin’ hyperventilating about whether or not she was gonna see me under there! I couldn’t believe it, though, when I walked out of the administration office that she was waiting there! I just knew she was gonna tell me that she knew that I was hiding underneath his desk!”
