Oh, my fuckin’ goodness!! I thought as I let out a big sigh of relief! He had no idea what I was so relieved about!! “Honey, I am so happy for you! I never knew a car could cost a million dollars! WOW! That sounds like one hell of a car!” I said, as I hyperventilated more over the fact that he didn’t say anything about me cheating on him with John last night than over the price of his new car . . . but he didn’t know that!

“It is, baby, it is! The dealership got it in last night. My parents told me they pre-ordered it for me last year. I didn’t think I was gonna to get it! FUCK YEAH!!” he yelled with pure excitement as he pulled into the school parking lot. He pulled into his spot. “No other guy my age is gonna have a car like this! I know it!”

We got out of the car.

He came over to me and held my hand as we walked up to school. “Oh, and by the way, you look very pretty today,” he said while he looked down at me with a smile.

I smiled back up at him. “Thank you, baby,” I said while I still tried to calm myself down. “Brad, I’ll be afraid that someone might try and do something to your new car since you’re one in only ten that’ll have something like that.”

“Don’t worry, no one is gonna do anything to it. Only very few out there know how much it cost. My parents said that they don’t want me to drive it that much; just when we’re out together and on other special occasions — stuff like that.”

“So when are you picking it up?” I asked as we entered school.

“Tonight!” he said excitedly. “Do you wanna come with me?”

“Sure! I would love to!” I said with a big smile.

He looked so happy. For a minute, I forgot all about what John and I did yesterday, but there was no way I could forget about the fact that it was a new secret that we had between the two of us. As we walked down the hall to his locker, I locked eyes with John as he stood at his locker as he talked to Marc and Ken.

“What’s up, gentleman?” Brad said, once we got to his locker, and then high-fived each one of them while he still held my hand with his other hand.

John and I continued to stare at each other as he smiled to no end; I smiled back at him and then looked down at the floor.

“Hey, congrats on that car, man. Are you picking it up tonight?” Ken asked Brad.

  “Yeah!” Brad replied with pride.

“Yeah, I couldn’t believe it when Marc called me last night and told me that your parents could’ve possibly gotten you got that car, and this morning I see how it’s true. Are you gonna drive it here tomorrow?” John asked.

“Of course, man! That’s if my parents let me. Even though I’m eighteen, they’re still overprotective about stuff like that,” Brad replied.

“Well, who wouldn’t be?! We’re all eighteen, but none of us will ever get anything like that!” Marc said.

We all laughed at Marc as we nodded in agreement.

“Never say never, man!” Brad replied with a smile.

I smiled as I looked around and saw Ava making her way down the hall. I smiled big at her and she smiled big at me in return since she saw that Brad and I were holding hands. She gave me the thumbs up; I nodded to her in response.

We hugged when she approached me. “So, how’s everyone this morning?” she asked.

  “I’m fantastic, Ava!” Brad said.

“He’s fantastic because he’s picking up his early graduation gift tonight — a car that’s a million bucks,” I informed her.

Ava gasped! “Holy shit, Brad! I’ll be scared as hell to drive a car that expensive around! But congrats — that’s some hell of a grad gift!”

  Everyone nodded in agreement.

“Thanks, Ava,” Brad replied with a smile.

Minutes later, I walked to my locker with Ava; I grabbed her arm tightly. “Oh, my God, Ava! I thought Brad was gonna break up with me this morning on the way here!”

She gasped! “For real?! How come?”

“Well, he first started asking me about what homework did I do last night because that’s what I said that I was doing when I was at John’s house last night. Right there, I just knew that he knew I was lying!”

“Oh, shit, Vanessa! I know you started to fuckin’ freak!”

“Ava, I did! And that was just the beginning!”

“Oh, shit!” she said again, as she looked at me with her eyes wide with curiosity.

“Yeah, that’s what I said! He then tells me that the reason why he wanted to pick me up was to let me know that it was gonna be the last time that I was gonna be riding in his car!”

She gasped! “Shit, Vanessa! Fuck! I would’ve known that it was over with right then and there!”

I looked at Brad; he was still excitedly talking to his friends. “I know, huh?! I just sat there feeling so nauseated! I literally felt sick! I just knew he was waiting for me to tell him about me and John last night! I just asked him how come it would be my last time riding in his car, and it was like he was hesitating. I just knew he was gonna say because he knew what John and I did last night, but instead he said he was getting a new car!!”

She gasped! “Oh, my God! I know you were relieved!”

“Ava, you just don’t know!” I said while I stood at my locker with my back against it. “I feel like a ton of bricks have been lifted off of me!”

“Well, you know that I’ll never tell. And look at John — did you see how happy he looked? He had you for one last time and now it’s over. Trust me, Vanessa, he knows that it was a one-time thing and seems okay with it.”

“You’re right — he does. The only thing that bothers me about having sex with him one last time is that it’s now a secret between us, and it’s the one thing now that he’ll always have over me.”

She nodded. “I know. Well, just think of it this way, we all have secrets. But don’t worry, I’m not gonna spill your tea,” she said with a grin.

I laughed. “I know you won’t! Because that would be some fuckin’ tea to spill! Just think if Lisa found out?”

“Yeah, I know. That bitch will have a fuckin’ field day, but then again, she can’t say shit because she’s cheated on Brad . . . and she’s an attempted murderer, but unfortunately we can’t prove that,” she said as she got her books out of her locker.

“Exactly! I wish we could because I’m still not ruling out about going to the cops about her doing it so she better walk very lightly around me.”

“I know, Vanessa. Brad and I witnessed her incriminate herself, so I hope you still do think about telling the cops that it was her. See you later.”

“Okay,” I replied with a smile.

I was sitting in my eighth-period Calculus class when I looked down at my phone and saw a text from John. Hey, Vanessa. Can you meet me by the study hall in the west wing? I stared at the text. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to or not. I texted him back. Now? I sent the text and waited for his response. It came in seconds later. Yeah, if you can. I let out a sigh and texted him back. I’ll be right there.

I took the bathroom pass and headed to the study hall. I didn’t know why he wanted to meet with me right now, but considering what we did last night, I had to see what he wanted.

He was standing outside of the study hall as I approached him. “Hi,” he said with a smile.

“Hi,” I replied with a smile.

“I just wanted to see how you were doing today since I haven’t been able to talk to you all day.”

“I’m fine,” I said while I looked down at the floor; I couldn’t look at him. I let out a sigh and then finally looked up at him as he continued to stare down at me with a smile. “Honestly, John, I thought Brad was gonna break up with me this morning on the way here.”

  He looked shocked. “Really? Why?”

“Because I thought you told him what we did yesterday.”

He sighed. “Vanessa, I told you I wouldn’t do that. You need to trust me on this because I mean what I say.”

“I hope you do because I’ve been so on edge since yesterd
ay.”

“Yeah, I can tell that you have, that’s why I wanted to talk to you before the day was over with to let you know that you can relax. I know Brad has been in a good mood all day because of that new car he’s getting tonight. Marc actually called me about it minutes after you left, and no, I didn’t tell him what we did.”

“I know you didn’t because I would be getting strange looks from him if you did.”

He chuckled. “Well, what we did last night is the new secret that will stay between the two of us, and I mean it.”

“I’m glad you do because this is a secret that I want to remain a secret, even if Brad and I break up years from now.”

He nodded. “And it will. Oh, I also wanted to ask you something else.”

I looked at him. “What is it?”

“Have you found out who’s been sending you those secret texts and putting a rose in your car since I’ve been officially ruled out?” he asked with a slight grin.

I sighed. “Not yet. But if I do, I’ll let you know. And if you want, you can listen around to see if someone might mention them or something, even though I seriously doubt it.”

  He smiled. “I’ll do that.”

We stared at each other for a few seconds, and it felt very awkward.

“Well, I need to get back to class; I’ve been gone for almost five minutes. I’ll talk to you later,” I said.

He nodded with a smile. “I look forward to it. See you later.”

I walked back to class as I was very happy that I’d talked to him. I was nervous all day as I thought constantly about the possibility that he was gonna say something to someone — not necessarily Brad — about what we did and it would get back to Brad somehow. I mean, after all, he did not have a good track record with me about keeping something a secret. But I had a feeling that since this was a new secret that we had formed between us that it would stay between us.

It was the end of the day and I was standing by Brad’s locker with Ava as I waited for him to get his stuff out for the day. I locked eyes with John. He smiled at me; I smiled back. I knew that he loved the fact that we had this new secret between us because it was all in his smile.

Brad shut his locker and then held on to my hand. “Let’s go, baby. See you all tomorrow!” he said to his friends as we walked off.

Several minutes later, Brad and I sat in his car as we waited for the traffic to move out of school. He looked at me. “You seemed upset and nervous about something today. Is everything okay at home?”

I looked at him and smiled. “Yes, it’s been fine lately. They’re not arguing as much as they used to. I think they’re more happy for me since I have you.”

He smiled as he held on to my hand. “I’m just very happy that I was able to get you this year,” he said, and then lifted up my hand and kissed it.

I smiled at him. “Brad, if it wasn’t me you were interested in, you still would’ve been able to have any girl you want; admit it, you just have it like that.”

He grinned. “Well, I don’t like to say all that.”

“Well, that’s why I’m saying it for you.”

We looked at each other and laughed.

Several minutes later, he dropped me off at home.

“What time will you be over to pick me up tonight?” I asked.

  “At seven o’clock.”

  “Okay, see you then.”

We kissed, and then I got out of the car and walked up to my house. I felt so relieved that the day turned out better than I thought it would. Brad was getting a brand new, million-dollar car, but John and I had a brand new secret between us — but since talking to him, I finally felt some trust that he wouldn’t tell anyone. But there was someone out there that was sending me these secret texts and roses and I was still determined to find out who this was because whoever it was, they were very upset about me being with Brad, and I felt that because of this, I had a problem with someone else other than Lisa when it came to him.

  CHAPTER 24

I felt that enough time had passed since John and I had formed a secret that I thought would never form between us, so I officially felt comfortable in the fact that he was gonna keep what we did with each other a secret. We hadn’t talked to each other that much at all since then, but we did smile and say hi-and-bye to each other every time we did see each other at school. On the flip side, I still wasn’t any closer to finding out who was sending me the secret texts or roses, but one thing I’d noticed was that I wasn’t receiving nearly as many as before, so I concluded that the person who was sending them to me finally grew up and decided to mind their own fuckin’ business or unfortunately started secretly texting and putting roses in someone else’s car. I thought about all of this as I sat in my second-period class when suddenly, a text came in . . . . from that secret person! Listen, I know it’s been a while since I’ve texted you, but I wanna tell you who I am in person and why I’ve been doing this to you because I just can’t take any of this anymore. Please meet me next period on the basement-level floor in room B110 as soon as you can. I’m gonna assume that you’ll be there so you don’t have to respond to me because as you know, I won’t receive it.

I tried very hard to not to gasp! I couldn’t believe that I was finally gonna see who this was! And not only that, they were gonna tell me why they were doing all of this to begin with because that’s what I wanna know almost as much as I wanna know who the hell they are. I picked up my phone as I was about to text Ava to tell her that I was finally gonna see who this secret person was, but I put it down because I wanted to talk to this person first because she wants to know who it is just as much as I do.

My focus was now completely off of what was being discussed because there was no way that I could concentrate now. I stared at my phone as if my life depended on it, and alternated from looking at the time on it to the latest message that this secret person had sent me — I couldn’t take my eyes off of it because I knew that I was finally gonna find out who this person was and why they were doing this, and it was gonna finally be an end to all of this bullshit.

The bell finally rang and I jumped up out of my seat as if it was on fire. I walked in a fast pace towards the stairs and down to the basement-level floor and straight to B110. I’ve never had a class in this room, so I didn’t know what type of room it was because I wasn’t so sure now if it was even a classroom at all. Everyone around me looked like a blur as I frantically searched for this room . . . and found it. The door was closed, and I didn’t wanna dare open it because I didn’t know what was possibly inside. I was now very scared to go in it since I was unsure if there was someone in it. I knew I was supposed to be meeting this secret person here, but now I wasn’t sure if I wanted to be all alone in a room with them because this could be some sort of trap. I looked around as students talked and socialized while going to their third-period class. Luckily, this was my study period so I didn’t have a class to get to, but if I did, I would’ve skipped it today for sure.

I looked around the hall as I continued to stand in front of this room since I was still afraid to go inside because I didn’t know if this secret person was already inside waiting for me, or they had yet to get here. I continued to stare at every student that walked towards me because everyone was a suspect to me, but it was clear that they weren’t the one because they would just look at me as they kept walking.

I took a deep breath and decided to go into this room. My hands were instantly sweating as I put my right hand on the doorknob and slowly turned it to the right . . . it opened! I took another deep breath as I slowly opened the door. All the lights were off as I continued to stare into this cold, dark room.

The blast of the first bell for third period scared the shit out of me!

I calmed myself down as I closed the door behind me as I turned on the lights. “Hello?” I said, as I looked around this small, empty room, which consisted of a small table, one desk, a computer, and a bunch of books stacked up on the shelves. This looked like a
teacher’s office since it was too small to be a classroom, and didn’t seem occupied by anyone at the moment. I walked around the room to make sure that no one was hiding anywhere; there wasn’t anyone in here but me. I let out a deep sigh as I waited for this secret person to show, and as I did, the second bell rang for third period. I could hear people running to class as I waited for this person to show up here, and I was gonna wait here all day if I had to. Since the second bell for this period had rung, I knew that they would probably be here in a minute. I checked my phone to see if they’d sent me any texts to say that they were gonna be late; they hadn’t.

Ten minutes had passed, and this had me concerned because if they weren’t coming then they could’ve told me who the hell they were through a text since that was the way they were talking to me to begin with. I didn’t wanna be caught in here, so I slowly opened the door and peeked out of it to see if anyone was on their way here; there was no one in sight. I sighed as I shut the door. I checked my phone again to see if this person had texted me; they hadn’t. I knew I couldn’t text them back so I didn’t even try. I continued to pace around the room in hopes that they would show up so I could see who they were and they could explain to me why they were doing this to me, but it’d seemed to me as if they decided that they didn’t want me to know who they were after all.

Another twenty minutes went by, and I grabbed my bag and decided to leave. It was obvious that this person had no intentions on telling me who they were, and was probably laughing at me while I stood in here waiting for them. I felt like shit, and if they wanted to make me feel that way then they succeeded because I really believed them that they would be here to come clean with me, but it was obvious that I was the one getting played.

I slowly opened the door as I turned off the lights. Since there were only five classrooms on this floor and they were all on the other side of this floor, I didn’t expect to see too many people in this area. I looked both ways, and then walked out of the room and down the hall towards the stairs. Suddenly, I heard a loud, crashing sound! I quickly turned around to see what it was. I heard no sounds after that, so I assumed that it was a janitor that had dropped something since most of them are stationed on this floor . . . but I was curious. I turned around and walked towards the room that the sound could’ve come from. I stood in front of the door, but couldn’t hear a thing. I listened very closely to see if I could hear anyone in this room since the sound was so loud. I was about to put my hand on the doorknob when there was another loud, crashing sound! I panicked as I practically ran from this room and down the hall. I quickly looked back to see if anyone was gonna walk out of that room, but no one did. I wanted to go back and see what caused those horrific sounds, but I didn’t wanna get caught by a teacher or some brownnoser hall monitor since I was supposed to be in either the library or in one of the lecture study halls since that’s what I have this period, and these places were on the other side of this school from here.
