When Destiny Calls

We pulled into Ronin’s place with two uniformed police officers. Detective Rush asked that I stay behind in case things got a little heated. When Ronin opened the door looking confused, I couldn’t help but smile at him. His eyes narrowed at me as the realization hit him. The lightbulb went off as he threw himself past the officers toward me. He was running full speed at me before one of the officers tackled him to the ground. And me, I hadn’t moved an inch. All part of him looking guilty.

"I’m gonna kill you, you stupid bitch,” he yelled. “You won’t get away with this.” I smirked at him and turned to Detective Rush as I shook in fear.

“Get him out of here,” Detective told the cop who had Ronin pinned to the ground. He tilted my head up toward him. “Are you all right?”

“I’m fine. I’ve never seen him act like this.” I sobbed into his shirt. “This has been an awful day. Would you mind taking me to my father’s house? I don’t think I can stay here.”

“Of course.” He settled me in the back of his Ford Crown Vic before strolling over to the other squad car. I have no idea what he told the other officers, but it was very animated.

Before I knew it, he was getting back into the car with me “Ms. Summers, Mr. Delarose is being taken down to the station for questioning. I’ll let you know more as details emerge.” He winked at me from the rearview mirror. That was when I knew Ronin would indeed go down for my mother’s murder…

  EPILOGUE

  ONE YEAR LATER

  FAITH

It had been a year since Ronin was tried and convicted of my mother’s murder. I couldn’t have been prouder of my handy work framing him. The justice system gave him only ten years since he didn’t have any prior felonies. My performance on the witness stand was stellar as tears came up abruptly as the prosecutor asked me questions.

Where am I now, you ask? You remember Detective Rush. Well, you guessed it. We’re in a relationship.

I’m currently in his kitchen chopping up some onions preparing dinner for us. Ever since we started dating after the trial, Rush, as I call him, had actually domesticated me.

Never would I have thought I’d be happy living what one would call a normal life. I was now in college again in hopes to finish my degree while Rush and I live together so I could work through college. He has taken good care of me and I can’t thank him enough.

Would I ever love someone as much as I loved Ronin? The answer to that is probably not. There will never be another like Ronin. It’s just too bad that it’s going to be ten years before we can be together again.

As I cut into the last onion, the doorbell rang. Who could that be? Rush was at work and I wasn’t expecting anyone. I wiped my hands off on the dishcloth and moved to answer the door. I peeked through the peephole. There was a very attractive woman standing there who I didn’t recognize.

I opened the door. “Are you Faith Summers?” the woman asked.

“Yes, and you are?” Suddenly, I felt a small pinch on my neck and my eyes felt really heavy. I slumped to the ground eyeing the woman before I passed out.

I woke to a dark room with a pounding headache. The room was spinning in circles as I tried to make out where I was. As my eyes adjusted to the dimly lit room, I saw a figure walk across the room. This wasn’t the same woman who had been at my door.

He was standing in the shadows where I couldn’t see who he was, all I knew it was a man. As I tried to move my hands to rub my head, I found they were bound to the bed. I began to shake in fear. Where was I?

“Who are you?” I asked frantically as I tried to get loose from the bed. He moved out of the shadows and I locked eyes with the one and only Ronin. “What—How did you get out?” I stuttered trying to control my shock.

“I told you time and time again that you wouldn’t get away with it. Does the room look familiar?” His voice was husky and as sexy as ever. Only he could arouse me in such a terrifying situation. I looked around the room and was immediately taken back to the day Mr. Kirkwood had died. They never linked me to Mr. Kirkwood. At least my mother did one right thing before her death. It was the same room, same bed, and same angry Ronin.

“Now, Faith, I’m going to teach you a lesson for screwing with me.” The bed sank as he sat next to me. I smiled at him in anticipation of what he was going to do to me. “You won’t be smiling once I’m done with you.” He stood, unbuckled his belt all without his eyes leaving mine. “For the past year, all I could think about was getting to you and making you pay.” He pulled the belt from his pants eyeing the length of my body. He moved from the bedside and disappeared into the bathroom. He started the shower and returned to the other side where the phone was.

He looked at the phone and as if on cue, it began to ring. My only thought was who could that be?
