Rita Turner raised her glass. “To Divine Designs. Though I know there will be competition, I’m also excited about your ideas and the ability we’ll have to partner up together on projects.”
“Thanks, Rita,” Bella said softly, and they drank their toast.
“I just can’t believe that silent partner of yours can’t be here,” Rita said. “I’ve been dying to meet Mr. Reece Hamilton for years. Our circles always connected, but our paths just never really crossed—not that I know of anyway.”
“Of all the weeks for him to have to travel,” Christo mumbled.
“And where’s Connie?” Rita asked. “She needs to be celebrating her first paid position as a designer.”
“She’s probably just late,” Christo said. “Probably still trying to find something to wear in that dreadful closet of hers. First paycheck she gets, we’re getting her a new wardrobe. Second paycheck gets her an apartment. Nothing fancy, just away from her parents’ house.”
Suddenly, there was a commotion at the door, and Christo’s mouth and champagne glass dropped at the same time. Bella turned to see a tall, dark-haired figure in a mask, his body painted to look like a tuxedo.
“I hear there’s a celebration occurring,” Reece’s voice came across the room. Bella couldn’t believe her eyes. Her mind rushed back to their first night together—her in the body paint, and him in the real tux.
Reece strode over to Bella, took the glass of champagne from her hands, and threw the contents on himself. His chest dripped, and Bella felt herself moisten at the thought of what was to follow.
“Let me help you with that,” Bella said, and she grabbed Reece’s hand and led him back to her office. She shut the door behind her back and turned the lock.
“So, this is how you crash a party?” she asked.
“Who’s crashing? I was invited,” Reece replied.
“I guess I should have been more specific and indicated that clothing was required, not optional.”
“I have clothes on,” Reece said, and he looked down at the black g-string, the only true clothing he could claim. He backed himself against the door, turning the lock to insure they wouldn’t be disturbed while Bella crossed over to her desk. “I just wanted you to be clear on one thing.”
“What’s that—how beautiful your body is? Oh, I’ve been clear on that,” Bella said as she removed her high heels.
“No, I want you to be clear on the fact that when I say I’ll do anything for you, Bella, I do mean anything. I’ll go to whatever lengths I need to go to prove to you how much I love you.”
She removed the straps of her black cocktail dress and let it fall to the floor before she stepped out of it. Her strapless bra was next, and Reece was clearly aroused at the sight of the quick striptease.
“Now if I recall correctly,” she began, “I think it started with something like this,” she said, as she dabbed at Reece’s chest with a silk scarf she’d found in her desk drawer.
“You have nice eyes,” Reece recalled.
“I’ve thought the same about yours,” Bella responded before she pressed her lips gently up against his. Her body could feel his heat already, and her nipples had sprung up hard against his chest. Reece began to lower himself before her, but she stopped him.
“I thought we were reversing roles, here,” she corrected.
“Not yet. Let me relive that moment first,” he responded as he got down on his knees and placed his lips in just the right spot—the spot that sent her reeling and made her want more all at the same time.
“We can reverse roles in a bit,” she whispered as she gave in to the euphoria.
“That’s what I thought,” Reece said against her skin, and she felt him smile before he darted his tongue out again, tasting her sweetness.
Bella opened her legs wider, hoping his tongue would explore more, probe deeper. She let her head drop back as she rested her buttocks against the desk, one hand helping to support her, one hand on Reece’s head. She let her mind go—let go of her need to complete the scenario and replay the scene the way she had wanted to at first. Right now, this was all she wanted.
Except for more.
At the thought of more, she felt herself clench. Down below, Reece took advantage of the stimulated and heightened nerve center, and Bella felt the suction increase and his tongue concentrated on the very tip, the very brink of her ecstasy now had his full attention.
Her hands tightened in his hair, and she shifted her pelvis slightly as she lowered herself back on to her desk, her body vibrating and humming with both the sensation and numbness. She felt her chest heaving as she tried to catch her breath, one leg still flung over her desk, the other propped up, foot planted firmly on the desk. She wondered for a brief second how she ended up in that position as it was.
Feeling that the blood had finally begun to circulate again, she lifted her head from the desk. Reece was still on his knees below her.
“What are you doing?” she asked.
“I figured while I’m down here,” he said, his sentence trailing off.
“It’s going to be hard for me to repay you down there,” she began. “Of course, I guess it is new carpet that needs breaking in, so to speak.”
Reece laughed a light-hearted laugh. “You’re missing the point,” he said.
“Point?” Bella asked, now propping herself up on her elbows.
“I’m down here, on my knees,” Reece began. “Not to replay what just happened, but to ask you something in the most humble way I possibly can.”
Bella felt her eyes widen.
“Bella Ryan, if tonight has not shown you that I will do anything for you, anything to prove how much I love you, then I’m not sure what else there’s left to do . . . except for one thing.” He reached for her hand before he continued. His ochre eyes seemed lighted from inside. “Bella Ryan, I love you more than I have ever loved anyone, more than I love myself, more than I love even the idea of love. I want to spend the rest of my days making you happy, and if I make you half as happy as you’ve already made me, then I can die a happy man. Will you marry me, Bella? Take me as your partner? Spend your moments and days with me, for the rest of our lives?”
Her eyes were filling with tears. She made a lame joke about it being hard to say no to a fellow who had just done what he had done to her. He scolded her lightly, telling her how important this moment was to him, how serious he was.
Her heart was racing and suddenly she had a view of herself, in white, walking the aisle of a large, grandiose church, stained glass windows on each side, and she knew suddenly that Phara would once again be proven right.
“Yes,” she said solemnly but with a smile. “Yes, I will marry you.”
Reece rose to his feet and caught her in his arms, the two of them naked and vulnerable with each other, yet completely sure in their love and their future together. His lips engulfed her own, and Bella felt herself almost faint, swept away from the extreme emotion of the moment.
Suddenly they heard a sound they had not expected to hear.
The door.
Bella brought her head up and froze. Reece turned, his mouth still partially opened. There stood Connie, pushing her glasses up onto her nose where they had slid down. She laughed and hiccupped.
“This isn’t the bathroom,” she said.
“Connie!!” Bella and Reece called out in stereo.
“Oops,” Connie replied, then giggled and hiccupped again. . . but nothing could ruin this for Bella and Reece. Besides, they figured that in the morning, she wouldn’t even remember.
