  They made a great team. They worked together to keep the apartment clean. They liked the same movies and music, and both enjoyed Dallas’s cooking. They argued frequently, of course—they still couldn’t agree on a name for the child they were planning to have as soon as finances allowed, for example—but they made up spectacularly.

  Dallas smiled up at him, her brilliant eyes glowing in the artificial light. “About that pick-me-up I’m offering...”

  Sam quirked an eyebrow. “I’m interested,” he assured her.

  She looped her arm through his, careful not to dislodge the mountain of textbooks. “It’s not something I want to go flashing around the streets,” she told him as they walked together toward the apartment. “I’ve got it well hidden. I’m afraid you’re going to have to search me for it.”

  Sam chuckled. “I’m looking forward to it. But I warn you—it might take quite a while.”

  She hugged his arm. “We’ve got the rest of our lives,” she said huskily, happily.

  As he entered the building at his wife’s side, Sam felt like the luckiest, richest man in the world.

  Dallas had taught him how to dream again.
