“Here, here.” Sindy called out. Everyone sipped their beverage.
“What’s space pizza?” Spar asked.
I got on tiptoes and crooked my finger for Daxx to bend a little and then I planted a smooch on his lips.
“Excuse us,” he said to everyone and led me up the stairs, “I did something slightly illegal,” Daxx said into my ear.
“Oh?” we were on the second floor now, “Will I have to bail you out?”
“What does that mean?” he asked.
“Read up on the American penal system later.”
“Alright,” he readily agreed, likely knowing that half the time when he asked me to explain an Earthism he wound up more confused than ever.
“What did you do, honey?” I asked.
“I had some of that herb that helps with dementia put into a supplement your grandfather takes in that elderly home. By the time he finishes the bottle, his dementia should be reversed.”
“Oh Daxx, how?”
“I’ll explain later. Let’s just say I had my father grease several palms.”
We were on the top floor and we were outside of his closed office door. He led me in. There was a large crate sitting in the middle of the floor and it was shaking.
“What the?”
“Meow?”
“Oh, my lord.” I fell to my knees, taking Daxx with me, since we were bound together, still. I looked in the crate on the side and saw a furry fluffy black face with big amber eyes.
“Tuh-tuck-tucky?” I started to bawl. I was blubbering. I could not believe this!
Daxx opened the cage, “So, this is your lost love, huh?” He scooped Tucky out of the cage. Tucky tried to squirm out of his hold.
“I enlisted father’s help to arrange not only that the kalefizshi plant be added to that supplement but that the pharmacist who arranged it, he tracked this guy down so that he’d be brought with Sindy’s group. Your roommate had moved in another friend of yours, Lara? Lara was having him cared for at her grandmother’s house. Her grandmother has 9 cats. We got him on the flight of what I knew would have Strom’s bride. He picked his bride and brought this guy home, too. Happy wedding day, beauty.”
Daxx put Tucky into my arms and he immediately put his paws on my shoulder and rubbed his head on my head and started purring loudly.
I squeezed him and wept. Not only did I have him back but he missed me. He wouldn’t likely be nice to me for long but he was obviously happy to see me.
“I told you I’d do my best to give you whatever you wanted. I had help but I managed.”
“I love you,” I said.
“He seems to love you, too. He doesn’t seem like an asshole.”
I looked at Daxx, “I was talking to you, silly. And give him time.”
“Come here,” Daxx ordered.
“I’m here. I’m tied to you.” I laughed, jiggling my arm that was bound to his.
“Put the Tucky cat down.”
I giggled and let Tucky go.
I hadn’t said that to him before today. I’d tried to show it and I’d promised it when I recited vows to him the night I decided to give in to my feelings, but I hadn’t said “I love you” until now.
I put Tucky on the floor and curled into Daxx’s arms, face-planting into his chest, “Thank you, Daxx.”
“Tell me again,” he whispered into the top of my hair.
“I love you.”
“And I love you, little beauty.”
Suddenly, there was the unmistakable sound of Banshee running into the room and I immediately heard a loud hissing sound. Tucky was standing there, his back arched like a scary Halloween cat and all his fur stood on end.
Banshee skidded to a halt in front of him and tilted his head in confusion.
Tucky took a big swipe at Banshee’s nose but it didn’t do a thing; he was clawless. Banshee followed suit and took a playful swipe with his own paw and sent Tucky sailing about four feet away.
“Eek,” I shrieked.
Tucky hissed and ran under Daxx’s desk.
“They’ll figure it out,” Daxx said and lifted the lid on a second crate and I saw cat supplies, two cases of Coca Cola, and a case of limes. “Let’s get back to the party?” he suggested, “We’ll serve this Coke and lime.”
I smiled. “How about we kick everyone out and drink the ‘not’ coke with lime?”
His brows shot up.
“And how do you feel about maybe having a chat about flipping that fertility switch and turning those swimmers on?” I suggested.
His face split into a huge grin, “Anything you want, my beautiful, precious little wife.”
