He sends tendrils at Zack while I leap.
Everyone else is down. This is our last stand.
Music rises, racing us, racing time.
We lose.
On the final note, we’re pulled out of space and time.
Everything changes.
I sit at the center of the Vampire Court of Providence, bored out of my skull. The figures to my left and right are so familiar I don’t bother looking at either of them.
The line of waiting undead is longer than usual, and my patience shorter than ever.
Wasn’t I just doing something else? Feats of strength? The most important task in the world? Perhaps even saving it?
Before leaning my left arm on the throne’s cushion, I pause. Because my left arm is gone, torn off weeks ago. But how? I haven’t fought since my last night as a mortal. The elders wouldn’t dare put me in danger.
Fortunately, the night is young, and nobody will deny me time to find answers to these questions.
I am the vampire king, after all.
