Seriously Shifted

An especial thanks to everyone who hosted me on tour or for talks this year—the bookstores (Powell’s, Mysterious Galaxy, Seattle Mystery Bookshop, the Raven, the Kansas Union, Reader’s Guide, B&N Tanasbourne, B&N Clackamas), the libraries (Ledding, Stayton, Redmond, Hillsdale, and North Plains), the cons (Orycon, WorldCon, World Fantasy), and the et ceteras (Cascade Writers, Willamette Writers). I am also tremendously grateful to everyone who came out to one of those stops, as well as those who helped me bypass the limitations of my ancient phone by doing cool modern stuff like taking pictures and tagging me. (Jenna! Tracy!)

Many thanks to Tinatsu again for the addition of the Seriously Wicked bracelet to my event fabulousness (also, Desirae supplied cupcakes to the Powell’s event and Danielle brought homemade sandwich cookies—so it was pretty amazing and I’m sorry if you missed it). I also want to particularly thank Kate Ristau and Dale Ivan Smith for their help this year in connecting me with many great events. And now I have to stop listing all the people who helped me at events this year because otherwise I will leave too many people off and then there will be guilt. So much guilt. Let me just say that I appreciate all of you, so much.

The usual big thanks to my family, particularly my parents for watching the darling little irrepressibles last summer while I wrote that first draft. A special thank-you to Uncle RJ (who helped me with the Thai name for Pops), and in memory of Uncle Rick. I am sorry you didn’t get to see this one—I always loved reading your stories, and I had hoped you would like this one.

And finally, an apology (for failing to stop Cam from foiling the witch’s plan) as well as huge thanks to Eric, without whom none of this could be done. I suppose that last bit’s grammatical, and yet it sounds fishy. Alas, we’ve already passed the copyedits stage. You see? I can’t do this without my team! Did I ever tell you how they stopped me from saying “spring solstice” in Ironskin? Also, they know the difference between sank and sunk. Let me tell you, without them, I would be.

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

TINA CONNOLLY lives with her family in Portland, Oregon, in a house that came with a dragon in the basement and blackberry vines in the attic. Her stories have appeared all over, including in Strange Horizons, Lightspeed, and Beneath Ceaseless Skies. She is a frequent reader for PodCastle, and narrates the Parsec-winning flash fiction podcast Toasted Cake. In the summer she works as a face painter, which means a glitter-filled house is an occupational hazard. Learn more at www.tinaconnolly.com. Or sign up for email updates here.
