Abby stared at her lap, “I am. I’m proud of you too, Aunt Jess. You’re kind of a bad ass!”

Jess turned her head to look at Jamison, who had stayed with them while they were waiting on the results of Chase’s surgery. They all broke out in laughter, including the surgeon, which was a welcome relief after having to tell Abby about the death of her mom.

“Your brother will need to stay with us for a couple days. You should probably go home and get some rest. We gave him medication to help him sleep. It sounds like you all have had a very busy day.”

Jess nodded and tried to stand up, feeling a little woozy. Jamison grabbed her under her arm. The pain medication they’d given her in the emergency room made her feel a little lightheaded. She frowned and looked up at him, “Could Abby and I get a ride back to her house? I don’t think I should drive.”

Roxie was barking at the door when Abby and Jess arrived home. Jamison followed them in. They’d stopped and picked up a pizza on the way back, not that anyone was hungry after the day they’d had. Jess had invited Jamison to join them. He said the department had assigned him to stay parked in front of the house for the next couple of days, just to make sure there weren’t any other repercussions from Walker’s crew or Colonel Foster. Jess was more than happy for the company. After a text from Charlie, Jess knew there wouldn’t be any. Charlie and the Secretary of the Navy were taking care of Zeta Tactical Consulting and the sketchy experiments going on in Building B at Trident Labs.

Exhausted, she slumped down on the couch, a piece of pizza on a paper plate, Roxie sitting patiently by her feet, waiting for a bite of crust. Jess stared at Abby and Jamison, who were gathering up drinks and napkins. Jess reached up to touch her eye. It was swollen and felt hot, but the doctors told her there was no long-term damage. The doctors said it just needed time.

  They all needed time.

  A Note from the Author

Thanks so much for taking the time to read The Trident Conspiracy!

After reading The Trident Conspiracy, I hope that you've been able to take a break from your everyday life and join Jess on her adventure to get justice for Abby. There are more stories to come! In fact, while there are more books coming in this series, you can jump right on over and take a look at Twelve Years Gone, the first book in the Emily Tizzano thriller series here.

  Enjoy!
