Jasper hadn’t expected his friends and pack to organize so quickly. The night before they’d all fought for their lives and pack. Now they were ready for their tasks. Pride swelled within him.
“Meet back here in a month. I’ll be holding a Marking ceremony for Sidda and me.” He grinned at Cole, who shook his head and walked off.
His mother clapped her hands together. “Good, but a month hardly gives us time to plan such a great thing. I’ve got to get with Scarlett, Angela, and Joy. Move, sons, it’s time to get to planning.” She strode forward but stopped to smile back at Jasper. “And in a few years, I’ll be planning a grandpup’s birthing ceremony.” Her eyes lit up, and she walked off, leaving Jasper near panicking.
“Grandpups?” His wide eyes met Russ’s, who merely shrugged. “She’s crazy.” But even as the words left his mouth, he knew he wanted them. He wanted to have pups with Sidda, to see her swollen belly, knowing they’d created a life together. But so much had to be done first. Still, they could always practice making them.
Happiness exploded within him. His mate was back, his family together, and he was Alpha over the North American Luna Nation now. He turned to Stephan, feeling a bit more forgiving.
“Thank you for saving her.” Jasper sighed. “Tomorrow, take one of the pack vehicles and Vivian.” He shook his head. “God help you. Have you looked through the files? Do we know how many you’re looking for?”
Stephan nodded. “There were six other females I know of. Those had between one or two babies each. Take away the ones Brockton had killed at the warehouse and we will be searching for six females and ten children who were Dane’s. But from some of the files, Dane had gifted Brockton with females also. There were another five, and if I know anything, I know Brockton took more than that.”
“Before you and Vivian leave, I want a report on where you are going, what you are going to do. Until you’ve earned free reign, you will be monitored every step of the way.” With that, Jasper strode into the room with Sidda again. He left his brother and Stephan in the hallway.
Scarlett and Vivian sat on the couch in the room smiling and hugging. Tears streamed down both their faces. Four teary eyes glanced at Jasper.
Vivian rose, dragging her mother up also. “Have no worries, Alpha, I will keep him in check. Now let me go help him with the report. I want to leave first thing to go find those innocent wolves.”
“Thank you for caring for my daughters. And I heard we are having a Marking ceremony in a month. It’s time to get busy.” Scarlett’s tears began to flow again, and Jasper shifted from foot to foot.
“Um, Viv, I expect you and Stephan to be here also showing support.” He wasn’t sure what to expect, but her laughing and nodding wasn’t it.
“Wouldn’t miss it for the world. Now come, Momma, let’s get my brother and go help Stephan.”
Doc smiled and shook his head. “Poor Stephan.”
Jasper nodded. “All right, tell me she’s going to wake up any second and be perfectly fine.”
Doc grimaced. “I can’t tell you that, but be prepared for her to be back in heat when she does. She needs to complete the cycle.”
Damn it, that was not what Jasper wanted to hear, although her still being in heat would definitely be a good thing. He couldn’t wait to mount her.
Sidda wanted to roll her eyes. All he thought about was “mounting” her. For fuck’s sake, she’d almost been killed by Brockton’s dumb ass, and all Jasper wanted to do was mount her. “Is that all you think of?” Her croaking voice flowed through the room.
An instant later, a rush of footsteps had Jasper on one side of her bed and Doc on the other. She shook her head, biting back a groan of pain. Dammit, her head still hurt.
She opened her mouth to complain but stopped short when another figure appeared at the foot of the bed. Tears began to pour from her eyes. She slowly sat up, holding her hands out to Zeke, sobbing as he eased his way to her. “Oh my god.” She grasped Zeke’s hands, tugging him to her. Sidda’s breath caught in her chest. She’d been so sure she’d never see him again, yet here he was alive with her.
“What happened? I saw what Brockton…” She shook her aching head, holding onto him for dear life. He’d saved her from Brockton. “I thought…I…”
“Yeah, he beat me up pretty bad, but Stephan got there.” Zeke smiled. “He’s a good guy after all.”
Sidda forced a smile for her brother. Her hand trembled, burning from the mark on her palm. It looked like a small scratch, but the hum of energy from the spot told her it was more.
She cleared the thoughts of Stephan from her mind. “I can’t believe you’re all right.”
“Yeah, I’m gonna be fine. Your mate said if I didn’t get better, he’d be forced to beat me back to health.” Zeke laughed.
Sidda smiled at Jasper, releasing her brother’s hands to pull Jasper’s head toward her. She kissed his cheek, and he winked.
“Gross.” Zeke’s lips curled. “I should not know what you are feeling, or him. It’s disturbing. Come on, Doc, I want to take these rags off my forehead.”
Zeke and Doc slipped from the room. Sidda grinned at Jasper and pulled the covers back so he could slide into bed with her.
He tugged his pants and shoes off, followed by his shirt. “I should be mad at you for running off, not trusting me to handle the situation, and going into heat while I wasn’t there. I really should be pissed, but all I want to do is hold you. To make sure you’re safe and all right.” Jasper wrapped his arms around Sidda, dragging her close to him.
Sidda sighed with contentment. She’d been so scared when Brockton had come after her, but here in her mate’s arms, she was safe again. “Just hold me. Later we can fight. Right now I just want to hold you.” She yawned against his warm chest.
“Whatever you want, babe.” His hands stroked her back, sending her into a blissful sleep.
Chapter Thirty-Four
Sidda smiled at her sleeping mate. She tucked the note beside his head and then ran from the room before he woke up. He’d be fit to be tied when he woke up and she was gone again. But she had no desire to be in that house when she did what her body was begging her to do. She’d woken in a cold sweat, a fire roaring inside her again. Every instinct inside her pulsed and prodded for her to take her mate in a screaming rush of passion. But Sidda knew without a doubt their first time together now had to be alone. She didn’t want everyone at the house knowing what was going on.
Sidda shook her head when the small town at the base of the mountain came into view. It’d taken her longer to get there than she’d hoped. If Jasper had already gotten up, he’d beat her there, but that would be okay too. She smiled at the tiny houses that sat close together, modest and in need of paint. The yards were full of toys, chairs, and other yard decorations. This time of year the grass had died, causing the yards to have a yellow-green tint.
The town centered around one small courthouse. On one side of the courthouse, the road lead to the residential part of town while the other road took you away from town to the mountain base. There she’d take the bumpy winding road to the cabin.
She pulled the truck to a stop at the end of the winding road. Her body flamed with need. She’d hoped that the heat would ease some, but instead it had grown stronger. Sidda had woken needing to be with Jasper but knowing she wanted him alone. The note would tell him where she’d gone, but she doubted he’d be very happy. His protectiveness had kept her snug against him all night. She’d waited until he’d fallen deep into sleep before daring to move away from him. The peace that had flowed from his sleeping form had told her he’d be out until morning.
She eased from the truck. An eerie silence fell over the forest when she stepped away from it. She put on her bright red jacket instead of the hunter orange jacket. She could have shifted to run a little, but the silent woods alerted her that a predator was nearby. Her wolf laughed. Of course there was a predator—her. Still, the unease that slid down Sidda’s back screamed
that it wasn’t just her. Maybe it’d been a bad idea leaving the comfort and warmth of Jasper and the house.
Sidda hefted her small overnight bag out of the back seat, brushing her hair from her shoulder. Her red stilettos dug into the earth, making her regret her decision to be daring. A few more steps into the forest, and she stopped to lean on a small tree. Awing him with her boldness didn’t seem like such a good idea now, especially as his anger seeped through the small link of the pack.
Pushing off the rough bark of the pine tree, she took a small step forward, her heels instantly sinking back into the wet ground. She glanced around the silent forest for any signs of wildlife. Nothing, not even a squirrel looking for a nut. The trees had lost their foliage, leaving only bare limbs in their wake. The calmness of the silent forest eased the tension that had weighed so heavy on her in the past days.
The bare underbrush slapped against her stocking-clad legs. She should have just worn pants then changed later. Still, the look on his face when he saw her would be so worth it. The jacket was the most clothing she had put on.
The crack of a limb snapping broke the silence in the forest. She glanced to the side. Seeing nothing, she turned in a circle looking for anything out there. Nothing, not even a bird. Chills swept down her body, leaving her shivering from the cold but melting inside with desire. She’d been in this forest hundreds of times and never had it ever been so still.
The loud beating of wings bursting into the air, the crack of tree branches and shrill screech of doves flying from the underbrush to her left caused her to stumble sideways. She bumped hard against a small shrub oak. The small, barely larger than a bush of a tree gave way from the force, and she landed on her back, legs in the air.
“So much for relaxing.” She eased up on her elbows, grimacing in pain. “Fucking birds.” The pain from the fall spread from her elbow to her shoulder in sharp zap. The ground covering was soft, but the tree stump underneath the leaves was not.
Her mind stung from Jasper’s anger. She grimaced and took off to the cabin. She’d had a clear plan of seducing him in the cabin again, but now that didn’t seem like such a good idea. His snarling thoughts showed he was a bit peeved.
Her mind buzzed with his thoughts. “Hungry for you, I could eat you alive. Do you really want to increase my appetite?” He took a step closer, slowly closing the distance between them.
The chase would only make him hotter, and she wanted him searing hot. “Fair warning, wolf.” She slipped her shoes off to lay them on the ground beside her bag and prepared for the run. “I’m not so easy to catch.”
Then, with a small lunge, the wolf was on her, knocking her to the ground. The wolf growled over her. His warm breath caressed her throat as he inhaled her scent. His tongue licked the side of her neck, causing her to bite back a desperate plea for more. His eyes swirled with chocolate and green.
“Get up, Sidda. The cabin isn’t far, and I want you there now. I skipped breakfast, and it’s time for me to eat.” His warmth spread over her, sending shivers across her skin.
“What’d you have in mind to eat?” She tried to keep her voice from shaking. She failed, and the quick glint of amusement behind his veiled eyes let her know he’d heard it.
The warm breath caressed Sidda’s skin, sending heat, fear, and a little disgust through her. When he stopped inches above her bare pussy, her breath caught. A predator with long sharp teeth and powerful jaws was inches away from one of her favorite places. The tingle of magic caressed her skin. In a blink the wolf in front of her shed its fur to become the man she loved. His smooth, hot flesh slid against hers.
Excitement and fear surged through her blood. He inhaled deeply, dragging her scent within. Seconds went by before he looked back to her face. Sidda panted, waiting for him to move, to speak, something, anything.
They were so close to the cabin that the smoke from the fireplace bellowed like a beacon, welcoming. Excitement roared within her.
“Jasper, inside now.” Her voice dropped to a low husky whisper.
His eyes glazed over. “Inside now.” He nodded towards the cabin.
Sidda barely managed to fill her lungs with air as she tried to heave the heavy door open. The force of her right shoulder slamming into it the heavy wooden door cause it to swing open. Her hands trembled as she rushed into the cabin and turned back to watch Jasper stride in behind her. His tall, thick frame filled the doorway. Her blood roared in her ears at the sight of him. His shift had left him naked and damp with a fine sheen of sweat. Her beast craved to lick him from top to bottom and every place in between.
Sidda’s breath burned her lungs with every gulp she took. Her throat, dry from the heavy breathing, begged for relief. The ache in her body spread from her core outward. Each step he took toward her sent a wave of desire to her clenching pussy. She pulsed as moisture seeped from her center. He’d had her wet before, but nothing compared to the dampness now. The heat cycle enhanced everything, including her body’s response to him.
“Well, well, well. You’ve done it now. I’ve been waiting to get you secluded and alone for years. Now I can do whatever I want, including spanking your ass for real.” Jasper’s low rumbling voice broke through the sound of her labored breathing. He strode across the room, circling her as she inched back to the door.
His eyes still burned bright green, no chocolate anywhere. His control was all but gone. She reached for the deadbolt, but Jasper cocked his head to the side, watching her.
“I swear to you, if you touch that door again, I will take you against it. I will clutch your throat in my jaws, squeeze until you can’t move and fuck you. My balls will swell, and my dick will grow so thick and hard I won’t be able to withdraw until I’ve had you for hours. Then I will spill everything I have into you.” His eyes glowed brighter than she’d ever seen them before.
“Jesus, Jasper.” She stared in complete disbelief. He’d gone from being kind of mad about something to full-fledged pissed. “What the hell is wrong with you?” She eased from the door toward the fire that she’d instructed one of the pack members to start before she got there.
“Well, let’s see. First, you leave the protection of our home to come out here while you are in heat. Second, you drive all the way out to the secluded cabin, alone. And you hike a half mile, alone, with Dane still out there and your scent so fucking strong it makes my dick throb.”
Sidda bit her tongue, trying not to smile at his reasoning. She was a big wolf. If she wanted to walk naked in the forest so be it. She really didn’t need him to protect her all the time.
“Yes, you do.”
“Stop. Don’t get all Alpha Wolf on me. I had hoped to surprise you. Plus, I didn’t want the entire house full of wolves to know how bad I ache for you.”
“At this point, I don’t give a fuck. Jacket off. Do you even realize what that red says to a wolf?”
She nodded. Why the hell else would she have worn it? It made him see white, white searing passion. She wanted to hear him say it though. To hear his voice shake with lust. To see his eyes in their bright green haze flare with desire.
His eyes bore into hers. The intensity of his desire, his passion for her, made her gasp.
“Take the fucking jacket off now.” He growled.
She didn’t want to push too hard. He was too close to giving over to the animal in him. Sidda wanted to push him just enough to for him to bend her over the couch and take her hard and fast.
He lunged forward, this time stopping inches away instead of on top of her. His fingers twined in the fabric and snatched, ripping it from her body. She squealed in shock then laughed at his roughness, which only fueled hers.
“That was my favorite jacket.”
He tugged the rest off her body. Sidda’s arm pulled toward him as he jerked at the remnants harder. Stitching tore, and the sound of ripping fabric drowned out her breathing, his growling, and even the fire seemed to hush when her jacket was ripped off her body.
Sidda g
rabbed onto the oak fireplace mantel for balance. Her fingers gripped the hard wood so tight her knuckles turned white.
“Sit your sweet tanned ass in the chair. Legs spread, thighs on the arms of it.” He nudged her right leg with his knee, pointing her toward the old, large pine rocking chair.
Silently, she did as he said. She needed him inside her. Hopefully the burning would ebb some with whatever he had in store.
The rocking chair had no pad, but it was old, giving it years of comfort. She settled into the chair, her back against the chair. Her bare ass slid against the bottom.
“Legs over the arms. Now.” He sat down a few feet directly in front of her.
Sidda hesitated. He cocked his head to the side, growling. She had to scoot her ass down toward the edge of the chair to get her thighs up and over the arms. Her recently waxed pussy was bare and open for his viewing pleasure. The heat of his stare, combined with the warmth of the room caressed the bare damp flesh. It shouldn’t be turning her on, but tonight everything he did stoked the bonfire within her.
“If I were any other Alpha, I’d have you on all fours with my dick inside you, and no, I wouldn’t change back. You’d be fucked and fucked hard pure wolf, me in my wolf form. Your body and mind would be repulsed, yet I wouldn’t let you go. I’d thrust so far and so hard into you, your heart would skip. Would you like that? Would you like for me to drag you out of that chair and do that?” He watched her eyes.
She wanted to scream “Fuck yes,” but she wanted him as human. “No. I wouldn’t want you to do that, unless you shifted back. If I could feel your warm smooth skin sliding against mine, slick with sweat, and burning hot against me, then yes, I’d want that. I’d want you to do all of that” He leaned forward, his mouth so close to her pussy his breath blew against it. Cream, thick and hot seeped from her. He inhaled, his eyes glazing over. She stared in wonder. The need to have him touch her nearly overwhelmed her.
