“A’ight, let me get Mama settled and I’ll be over there tonight,” he said.

  “Okay, I love you.”

“Love you too,” he said, ending the call.

I sighed deeply as I hung the phone up. I was so blessed to have him in my life once again. There was something about that man that I couldn’t seem to get enough of. It still felt funny that we were a couple again after all these years and if someone would have told me that we would be together again I probably would have laughed in their face.

Now that Ronny’s crazy jealous ass homeboys were out the way we could finally live a happy life and not have to worry about anymore bullshit. As much as I hate to say it, I had to thank Denise for giving us the heads up. If anyone would have told me a few years ago that I would be cool with one of the hos Ronny cheated on me with I would’ve laughed in their damn face. But here I am, not only having some type of communication with her ass, I even let Niyah and Ni-Ni go over to stay the night at her house from time to time. I had to pat myself on the back because I had definitely grown up. I still let her know whenever I felt the need, that the first time one of them say she touched them, yelled at them, popped them, or anything, that would be her ass!

I walked out the salon just as my husband was pulling up. Getting in the car, I kissed his lips before turning around to speak to my kids.

“Hey, love bugs,” I said and they all smiled and spoke back.

“Your hair looks nice. Is all that yours?” Ronny asked, pulling off as I pulled the sun visor down to look in the mirror.

“That’s right,” I replied as I finger combed it. It was hanging bone straight, stopping at the middle of my back with a bang and honey blonde highlights. I really didn’t like hair on my forehead but I thought it was cute.

“Damn, I didn’t know it was that long since you’re always wearing it curly or in a ponytail.”

“Yeah, me either,” was all I said as I continued to look in the mirror. I was feeling the hell out of myself. It’d been a while since I’d worn my hair straight. I usually would let it air dry when I got out the shower or just throw it in a ponytail.

We rode in silence, just enjoying the music Ronny was playing. I noticed we were going the opposite direction from our home so I asked him where were we headed and he informed me that we were going to pick Destiny up. I smiled because it had been two weeks since I’d last seen my little chocolate drop and I missed her.

“When did she get back in town?” I asked, because she and Denise had gone to visit their family in Maryland.

“Today. Denise called me on the way to get you and said they’d just gotten home and Destiny wanted me to come at her.”

“Oh, okay. I can’t wait to see my baby,” I said.

Ten minutes later we pulled up to Denise’s house and Destiny came running out. She jumped right into Ronny’s arms. That child loved her daddy.

“Hey, mama Shan,” she said as she climbed into the driver’s seat when Ronny opened the door. It was a good thing we decided to take his SUV for the day.

“Hey baby, we missed you,” I said, pulling her into my arms and kissing her cheek.

“I missed y’all, too,” she replied then climbed over the seat to get in the back with the kids.

Ronny stood on the front porch to wait for Denise to bring Destiny’s bag out, and when she did they stood there talking before walking back over to the SUV. I really didn’t understand why she always packed a bag when Destiny had clothes for days at our house. She had everything she needed there, including her own bedroom that she rarely slept in.

“Hey, Shan,” Denise said to me.

“Hey, girl,” I smiled and spoke back. Denise wasn’t all that bad and I was slowly letting go of the grudge I held towards her for fucking Ronny behind my back. I mean, I might as well had. Shit, what was done was done and if I forgave his ass then why not forgive her, too?

“Hey, kiddos,” she said to my kids.

“Hey, Miss Denise,” they spoke all together.

“Well I’m gonna let y’all get going. Call me when she’s ready to come back home,” Denise said before saying her goodbyes to her child, then Ronny got inside and we headed home.

  Chapter 2

  Star

Since my near death experience I’d learned to appreciate life and the value of family a lot more. Just the thought of me not seeing my son again, I think it gave me all the strength that I needed to open my eyes that night in the hospital; and here I am now. It took me two surgeries and almost a year to recover from being shot it the stomach, shoulder, and chest, but now I could honestly say I was fully healed and blessed to be able to wake up every morning. Sadly, I was happy when I found out that Drea died from a single shot to the head, courtesy of herself.

My sister and I were at a great place in our lives right now and we were even close again. I knew deep down she’d never fully trust me around her husband and I didn’t blame her because I probably would’ve been the same way. Debbie had even accepted me again. We weren’t close like we once were but she dealt with me out of love and respect for her son. Things between Cornell and I were pretty good. I even let CJ live with him during my recovery and now that I was better I only hoped he’d let my son come back home to me.

“Hey,” I said, walking over to him as he sat on the bench watching the kids run around the playground.

“Hey, what’s up? How are you feeling?” he asked, getting up to give me a hug.

“Mama!” CJ ran to me in full speed before I could answer Cornell.

“Hey, Mommy’s man,” I said, scooping him into my arms, kissing all over his little face.

It was funny because we’d just seen each other two days ago, but we were hugging like we hadn’t seen each other during the whole year he’d lived with his father. Once I was done loving on my baby boy I lifted Kandice up and kissed her chubby cheeks. I’d really grown to love that little girl. She was just so cute and precious, how could you not? After I was done loving on them they went on their way.

“So what’s up? You wanted to talk to me about something?” he asked me.

I didn’t know why I was so nervous. He’d always told me that once I was fully healed and felt I could care for CJ again to just let him know. Now that I was completely healed I was scared to tell him.

Fidgeting with my hands nervously I said, “Well you told me that once I was healed and felt I could take care of my son again I could get him back.”

He blinked a couple of times but didn’t respond. That only made me even more nervous as I stared him in the eyes.

“I’m even moving into my own spot tomorrow,” I let him know and he nodded his head in approval then smiled at me.

“I know you haven’t been around him alone since the incident so if you feel it’s too much, I’m only a phone call away,” he said.

I looked at him with teary eyes then hugged his neck.

“Thanks so much, Cornell,” I said. I was pretty sure he would take me through hell and back when it came to getting my son back but he didn’t and I was truly thankful.

We sat and watched the kids run around playing before leaving. I let CJ go home with his father and I was going to get him once I got settled in my new crib. I was thankful I no longer had to worry about Drea’s crazy ass anymore so I knew my baby boy was going to be safe with me.

  **********

The day had arrived for Cornell to bring my son home and I couldn’t have been happier. My house was fully furnished and the only thing that was missing was my son being home. I sat on the couch anxiously waiting for Cornell to bring him. Just as I was about to head to the kitchen to get something to drink I saw Cornell’s car pulling up.

Smiling from ear to ear, I walked to the door, opened it, and my son ran right to me with opened arms. My heart skipped a beat at that very moment.

“Hey, Mommy’s man,” I said kissing him as we walked inside, followed by Cornell. I showed them around the place and he adm
ired it with a smile on his face. I had no worries about if he approved of my place or not because my shit was laid.

“Where’s Kandice?” I asked him as we sat down.

“She’s at my mom’s house,” he said and I just nodded my head up and down before giving all my attention to my son.

“So are you happy about moving back in with Mommy?” I asked CJ.

“Yes, but can I still see Daddy, too?”

“Of course you can, baby.” I kissed his forehead. I loved that little guy so much and just the thought of me almost missing out on seeing his face again gave me chills.

“CJ, go to your room so I can talk to your mom,” Cornell said to him and he did as he was told. I had to admit, Cornell was a damn good father and was raising our son and his daughter good.

“So are you sure you’re well enough, Star? I know you missed CJ and all but I want to make sure you are completely healed. He can be a handful at times,” he said to me.

“I know, Cornell, and trust me, I’m good,” I assured him. My last surgery I had on my shoulder was three months ago and I’d recovered from that.

“Okay, I’m just making sure,” he said as he hugged me. “If I haven’t told you before, I’m happy your big head ass is feeling better,” he said.

“Yeah, I’m happy too,” was all I said.

He called for CJ to come back out then hugged him, told him to behave for me, and then left. I decided to make it a movie night with my main man. I was leaving everything up to him, whatever he wanted to eat and whatever he wanted to watch. I was going to do whatever I had to do to make up for the year he’d lived with his father. Though he’d spent nights with me at my parents’ house, it just wasn’t the same as him living with me.

  Brooke

I sat on the back porch watching my kids run around. I couldn’t believe I’d almost aborted my baby because I didn’t want to go through the whole baby stage again. I thanked God daily for bringing me back to my senses. Bino was a good ass man and I’m honored to have his Jr. Having five kids living under the same roof might’ve be tiring but I wouldn’t have traded it for anything.

I was glad Shan talked me into moving down here with them because they were the only family I had, and since my divorce my mom had disowned me. I still wondered how I was ever born into that dysfunctional ass family. They never had to worry about me or my kids again because I had a family now that loved us unconditionally. So whoever came up with ‘blood is thicker than water’ can go to hell with that bullshit because it clearly wasn’t true.

I felt a pair of arms ease around my neck, bringing me out my thoughts. I smiled.

“Hey, my love,” I said as I leaned my head back and looked up at Bino. I loved that guy! He responded by leaning down to kiss me passionately.

“I missed you,” he said as he walked around and sat in the lounge chair.

“I missed you, too. You could have told me you were stepping out.”

“I wasn’t planning on being gone as long as I was, but since I was I’m spending the rest of the day with y’all,” he said as he picked our son Brandon Jr. up out his bouncer. At five months he was the spitting image of Bino’s ass.

“What’s up, little man?” Bino said as he kissed his forehead.

“So have you heard from your baby mama yet?” I asked Bino and he shook his head no.

Amber was a poor excuse of a mother. She called Kelly the first two months when she moved away and that was it; Kelly hadn’t heard from her ass since. Sometimes Kelly would ask about her and most days she wouldn’t.

“I don’t know what to say about her ass,” I said, shaking my head. “How could you just stop calling your daughter like that?”

Bino didn’t say anything back and I continued.

“I wonder if she’s okay. Do she have a Facebook page or something? I mean, this shit is crazy for her to not have any kind of relationship with her daughter.”

“I don’t know if she has a page or not. I’m not worried about it, Kelly isn’t, and you shouldn’t be either,” he said, finally looking up from Brandon.

“I was just saying,” I said.

“Just let it go, Brooke. If she wanted to talk to Kelly then she would call. Evidently she doesn’t want to talk to her being that she stopped calling. Kelly is doing just fine without her.”

I just nodded my head because he was right. Kelly wasn’t stressing over Amber not calling so I shouldn’t be. But I’m a mother and I just couldn’t see how she could go for damn near a year without talking to her daughter.

  Bino

Things had been crazy in my life since Brooke came into the picture but I was glad shit was back on track with us now. To say I was happy when Amber’s baby ended up not being mines would be an understatement; but I couldn’t have been happier when she signed the papers for me to have full custody of our daughter and moved off to Atlanta.

I knew Brooke was a little upset but I couldn’t understand why she was stressing it so hard that Amber wasn’t calling to check on Kelly. Shit, after all the bullshit Amber had put us through you would think she would’ve been happy that she was out of our lives. I didn’t care one way or the other if she called or not. That was her ass missing out, not me! Now that she was out the picture I could finally make Brooke my wife. I hadn’t told her yet but I was getting out the drug game and making things official with us. I was planning on meeting with Ronny and the rest of the niggas in a couple of months to let them know who I was turning it over to.

I looked over at Brooke texting away on her phone. “Who you texting?” I asked.

“Shan. Her and Ronny is having a barbecue Saturday and invited us.”

“Oh yeah? That’s what’s up,” was all I said as I got up with my sleeping son in my arms. “I’m about to go lay him down,” I let her know.

“We right behind you. Shit, it’s hot out here,” Brooke responded as she rounded up the kids and we went inside.

I took Brandon straight to the nursery and laid him in his crib before going to my bedroom I shared with Brooke. I stretched out on the bed, laying on my stomach and Brooke came in shortly, laying on my back.

“Where the kids at?” I asked as she kissed the back of my neck, turning me on.

“In their room playing.” That was all I needed to hear as I flipped her over and positioned myself between her legs.

I began kissing her passionately and just when I was about to take off her shit we heard Brandon crying through the baby monitor. I cursed under my breath because it seemed like that li’l nigga knew when I was trying to get some pussy because he would always cry.

I smiled to myself and shook my head as I watched Brooke’s ass jiggle through her sundress while walking out the room to get him. As the days went by I fell in love with her more and more and now that she had given me a son, I was more than ready to wife her ass up. Hell, if my boy Ronny could do it then anything was possible!

  Chapter 3

  Ronny

A nigga was actually loving the married life, and after all the bullshit I’d taken Shan through I’m glad she still married my ass. Most women would’ve ran far away from a nigga like me, but my baby has always held me down and never turned her back on me no matter what. She was my rider, my down ass chick, my goonette, my backbone, and so much more. My whole worlds revolved around my wife and kids!

“Hubby, get up! Everybody will be arriving soon and we still have to go to the store.” Shan walked out the bathroom with a towel wrapped around her body.

“I am up.” I smiled as she sat on the edge of the bed and began to apply her Sheer Love scented lotion by Victoria’s Secret. She knew that shit did something to me every time.

“I see that you’re awake. I mean, get up out this bed,” she said but I wasn’t trying to hear all that.

I pulled her down and into my arms as I kissed the back of her neck. She giggled and tried to break free.

“Move, Ronny, I’m not going there with you this morning,” she said.

>   “Why? You already know that’s how I get my day started. Then you smelling all good and shit,” I said as I tried to remove her towel.

“No, Ronny, because I’m gonna have to shower again and we don’t have time for all that. Plus you know the kids will be busting in here in a few,” she said, trying to make up all kinds of excuses.

“Why must we go through this shit every morning? You already know you can’t win with me.” I laughed as I got off the bed to lock our bedroom door.

“You make me sick.” Shan giggled as I removed my boxers then her towel.

I began kissing down her body until I came face to face with my favorite meal. I smiled before feasting. Hearing her moan while rubbing her hands through my short curly hair turned me on and made me go harder. Once she creamed all in my mouth and I licked it right up, I was more than ready to dick my wife down.

Since we had to be quick I laid on my back. I didn’t know what Shan ass did to a nigga but she always rode the hell out of my dick and had a nigga busting quick. She already knew what was up because she climbed right on top and went to work. When she got her nut she placed her hands flat on my chest then begin bouncing her ass up and down on my dick. Just like that, I was releasing all my seeds inside her.

“Fuck, girl. I don’t know what the fuck you be doing but, shit…” She had a nigga speechless.

She smiled shyly. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, baby,” she said to me as she kissed my lips then rolled off the bed while giggling.

“Yeah, I bet your ass don’t,” I said, getting off the bed and as on cue there was a knock on the bedroom door.

“Daddy!” We already knew it was Niyah. I had that child so spoiled that it wasn’t even funny.

“Your child wants you,” Shan said before disappearing in the bathroom. I slipped back on my boxers followed by a pair of basketball shorts before opening the door.
