  Alpha Province: Sweet Miracle

Tamika Darnel’s life has turned upside down. Her father is suspected of committing suicide after allegedly embezzling funds from the company he’d built from the ground up. When she feels as if she’s being watched and someone breaks into her house, she’s scared. Tami runs from her home town of Las Vegas and ends up in Ambrose, North Dakota.

Zayn, Karter, and Jace Strike know that curvy Tami is their mate, but the wolf shifters are unsure how to go about courting her.

When the women of Ambrose find out that Tamika is a hairdresser, the three brothers, with the help of the other shifters in town, set up a hair salon for her virtually overnight.

Knowing she should be wary of such a generous gesture, Tami can’t help being attracted to the Strike brothers and trusts them more than she probably should.

Danger follows her to Ambrose and when she’s kidnapped, she’s not sure she’ll ever see her men again.

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

My name is Becca Van. I live in Australia with my wonderful hubby of many years, as well as my two children.

I read my first romance, which I found in the school library, at the age of thirteen and haven’t stopped reading them since. It is so wonderful to know that love is still alive and strong when there seems to be so much conflict in the world.

I dreamed of writing my own book one day but, unfortunately, didn’t follow my dream for many years. But once I started I knew writing was what I wanted to continue doing.

I love to escape from the world and curl up with a good romance, to see how the characters unfold and conflict is dealt with. I have read many books and love all facets of the romance genre, from historical to erotic romance. I am a sucker for a happy ending.

  Prologue

“Fucking cunt. Where the fuck are you?” Jeremy Browning shouted as he swept his arm over the contents on the desk, sending them scattering and crashing to the floor. He’d hired a mercenary to get that bitch, but she’d somehow managed to escape the stupid fucker’s clutches. He had to find her, or he’d never be able to maintain the lifestyle he was used to living.

He’d had to kill her father when the bastard had started asking questions, but he was smart enough to make it look as if the sanctimonious prick had committed suicide. Daniel Darnel was no more, and Jeremy had taken over running the company. He should have been able to take what he wanted, but he’d fucked up. He should never have made Daniel write that letter admitting to embezzling funds from the company, a real estate conglomerate, he’d built up from the ground. Now the IRS, feds and other law groups were going over the books with a fine-toothed comb.

Darnel hadn’t been innocent. He couldn’t prove it, but Jeremy knew the asshole had been skimming money off the top for years, but the fucker had been smarter than he’d been. Daniel hadn’t spent his money living the high life like Jeremy had but had hidden it away instead.

Now Jeremy was well and truly fucked. Both his and Darnel’s assets had been frozen, including their bank accounts as the fucking law tried to find out where all the cash had gone. They wouldn’t find any of that stolen loot in his name, but if they looked at his bank accounts and credit cards, he was going to end up behind bars. Every single penny he’d spent was recorded on his bank statements since the money he’d taken had been put directly into his bank account. He wished he’d been smarter and found another way to get his hands on that cash, but everything was just numbers in this day and age. If only businesses, banks and the like dealt in cash like they used to years ago.

He’d overheard one of the investigators saying that the stupid fucks thought Daniel was clean. Thank God they hadn’t seen him hanging around outside the large company building offices, or he might already be behind bars. He’d had the foresight to dress down and wear a hat to shadow his features.

Now here he was hiding in his sister and brother-in-law’s apartment, but from the looks he’d been getting from the pair, his time was almost up. The media had been in a frenzy over what he and Darnel had allegedly done. If his sister and her dweeb of a husband got sick of him hanging around, all they had to do was make a phone call and rat him out to the cops. Plus, it wouldn’t be long before the police came for a visit hoping to catch him.

Jeremy wasn’t about to let that happen. The only reason Daniel had to be coming up looking squeaky clean was if he’d hidden the cash in an offshore account. He’d also put a shit load of cash into a Swiss bank account under the bitch’s name. Since Daniel Darnel’s wife had died years ago, and he had only one living relative, the money the fucker had squirreled away had to be in his daughter’s name, too.

  But now she was missing.

He had no idea how she’d gotten out of that fucking mansion without the merc seeing her, but from what the asshole had said, she was in the wind.

That bitch was his lifeline. He needed to find her and get his hands on the money so he could skip the country. He already had a fake passport and papers made up, but he didn’t have more than a few dollars to his name.

If only he’d had the foresight to withdraw as much cash as he could before his accounts had been frozen. Now he felt as if he was a sitting duck with a target painted on h
is ass. He couldn’t even access the fucking Swiss Account. He’d failed to put his name on it so he could countersign. He couldn’t believe how stupid he’d been. He was getting more forgetful the older he got.

Jeremy pulled the cheap burner phone from his pocket and dialed his contact.

  “Have you found anything?”

  “No.”

“What the fuck have you been doing? I’ve given you my last dime. You promised you’d get me what I wanted. If you don’t find that cunt and the law catches up with me, I’ll be naming you.”

  “I’ll find her.”

Jeremy yelled out his frustration when the bastard disconnected the call. He could virtually feel the clock counting down to his demise. If that fucking merc didn’t find the bitch soon, he was going to be up shit creek without a paddle. There was no fucking way he was taking to the streets. He was used to comfort and the finer things in life, and he was going to have them again.

Failing to get his hands on that slut and on all that money wasn’t an option.

Once he had the information he wanted, he was going to kill that cunt just like he’d killed her old man.

  Chapter One

“Thanks.” Tami gave a tired smile to the bus driver just before getting off the bus. She glanced about the small town of Ambrose, North Dakota. It was a pretty town with what looked like freshly painted shop facades and clean streets. She just hoped that she’d be able to find somewhere to stay and a job that would pay cash.

Whoever had killed her father was looking for her, and while she wouldn’t have used a credit card if she’d been able to, she needed more cash. She was down to her last thousand dollars, and that wasn’t going to last for long. Thankfully, she’d had three grand when she’d escaped the house she and her dad had shared. Her tired gaze alighted on what looked like a surplus clothes and grocery store, and she started walking toward it. If anyone knew where the best place to stay was, surely the owner or employee working in that store would.

Tamika Darnel was running on empty.

She stepped over the threshold and blinked to adjust her vision after being out in the bright sunshine. It was spring, and while the weather was still cold, it was wonderful to see some sun after such a long, cold winter. Tami peered about the shop and almost gasped when she saw the huge man sitting on a stool behind the serving counter. He had black collar-length hair and very broad, muscular shoulders. The sleeves of the white cotton T-shirt he was wearing were stretched to the limit over his bulging biceps and pectoral muscles.

When she realized she was staring, she quickly lowered her gaze to the floor, drew a deep breath, and then walked slowly toward the counter. She lifted her eyes up to his, and when she met the sky-blue gaze watching her so intently, she felt as if she were drowning. He was one of the most handsome men she’d ever seen.

Tami cleared her throat and tried to remember what she was going to ask him, but the question slipped her mind when he rose. She stood at an average height of about five feet six, but he had to have nearly a foot on her.

“Can I help you? I’m Zayn Strike,” he said as he straightened and held his hand out to her.

She shivered when the deep bass of his voice sent goose bumps to race over her skin. She licked her lips and tried to get her brain to kick into gear, and finally remembered what she was about. “I was wondering if there’s a bed and breakfast or a motel where I could rent a room?”

When he leaned his hand on the counter, she couldn’t help staring at his flexing biceps and pecs. The man was the epitome of every woman’s wet dream.

Tami stared at his massive hand for a heartbeat or two before placing her smaller hand in his. “Tami Dar…Spencer.” His hand was so big, and hot frissons of heat raced up her arm and into her chest. Her heart flipped and then raced hard and fast making her feel breathless. Her breasts swelled, and her nipples hardened, but that wasn’t all. Her damn clit began pulsing, and moisture coated her folds after her internal muscles clenched. The man was a potent hunkalicious stud. She tugged her hand from his and wiped her palm surreptitiously over her thigh-covered jeans.

“Pleased to meet you, Tami.” Zayn’s deep voice sent another shiver racking up her spine. “There’s rooms behind the pub across the street, but I think they’re all already booked. There’s nowhere else to lease a room.”

“Damn.” She sighed and ran her fingers through her long brown hair, wincing when they snagged on a snarl. She’d been doing that a lot over the last few hours, trying to stay awake as she noted any and all landmarks as the bus traveled through towns, along highways and roads. Tami was a self-confessed control freak, but not to the point of being a bitch. She’d learned from her dad how to take control of her life and get where she wanted to go without taking any side routes or being distracted.

“If you’d like, my brothers and I have a spare room in our house you could use.”

Tami didn’t want to accept that invitation from a strange man, but she had no idea what she was going to do if there were no other options. The bus was gone and wouldn’t be back for another week. She didn’t have a car she could get into and continue her meandering journey. However, she wasn’t sure staying with a man, or men, she didn’t know was a good idea either. Nonetheless, she didn’t want to end up living on the streets either. Although it was spring, the nights were still cold enough to freeze the nipples off a witch’s tit. She didn’t have any blankets, tent, or anything else she could bunker down in. Even if she did have any of that stuff, she’d never been camping in her life and wouldn’t know the first thing about putting up a tent.

  What choice did she have?

  * * * *

Zayn was fucking glad he’d been sitting when the woman entered the shop. If he hadn’t been, he might very well have fallen to his knees when her intoxicating scent drifted to his nose. She was the sexiest damn woman he’d ever seen, with her lush curves, soulful brown eyes, and long brown hair. His inner wolf was going crazy, leaping at his guts, pacing and growling with excited anticipation. She’d literally blindsided him when she walked through the door, but thankfully she’d been too busy looking around to take any notice of him.

When she’d turned her gaze his way, his heart had stopped beating. His flaccid cock had engorged with blood so quickly he’d been lightheaded. It had been hard to keep his breathing deep and even when all he’d wanted to do was inhale her delectable perfume over and over again. He had and was still breathing her in through his nose, but he made sure she didn’t realize what he was doing. She smelled so fucking good his mouth was watering.

The second he realized he hadn’t contacted his brothers telepathically to let them know the woman of their dreams was here, he did. “Mate. Here. Now. Bring one of the other women with you. Hurry!”

“Are you for real?” Karter asked.

“I’d never joke about something so serious,” Zayn snarled.

“We’re on our way,” Jace said. “We’re bringing Kenzie and Pixie.”

“Isn’t there anywhere else I could stay?” Tami asked.

Zayn eyed her sexy body over as she shifted from foot to foot. She was so fucking perfect for him and his brothers. Tami wasn’t thin like the other mates, although Dusty was filling out because of her baby bump. Tami had to be a lush size fourteen with plenty of meat on her bones. Zayn and his brothers had always liked a woman with curves. They loved to be able to hold a woman while making love with her with no worries of hurting her, as well as feeling her softness against their harder bodies. He just imagined gripping that sexy ass while he pounded into her from behind as he claimed her. When she cleared her throat, he realized he hadn’t answered her question. He sniffed the air and felt a little guilty when he smelled how nervous his mate was.

“Sorry, I was just thinking about possible options, but I’m coming up blank. The motel behind the pub is the only place you could get a room. There are no B&Bs in Ambrose. If you’d like, I could call over and ask if they have anything.”

  Tami
shook her head. “That’s okay. Thanks anyway, but I was going to head over there to get something to eat.”

Zayn’s immediate response of “no” almost made it onto his tongue. He sighed with relief when his brothers, as well as Kenzie and Pixie, entered the shop.

The two women immediately smiled at his mate and hurried forward.

“Hi, I’m Pixie, and this is Kenzie. Welcome to Ambrose.” Pixie held out her hand.

His mate looked uncomfortable with all the attention, but she shook first Pixie’s hand and then Kenzie’s as Pixie introduced her. “This is Karter and Jace Strike,” Pixie said as she pointed at Zayn’s brothers. “You’ve already met their brother, Zayn.”

She nodded and swallowed audibly before responding. “Tami…Spencer.”

“It’s great to meet you, Tami. Are you touring the area?” Kenzie asked.

Tami glanced away before meeting Kenzie’s gaze again. The smile she gave the other women was forced. “Yes. I’m on…vacation.”

Zayn glanced at his brothers to see them frowning at his mate. They all knew she’d just lied, but there was no way they could call her out on the fib without giving away their shifter status.

“What do you do?” Pixie asked.

  “Uh…I’m a hairdresser.”

“You are?” Pixie practically squealed, bouncing up and down as she clapped her hands. “Are you looking to make any extra cash while you’re in town? I so need a haircut. It’s been months since I had my last trim, and I did it myself.”

“Me, too,” Kenzie said. “I’ll bet Dusty and Emmy would love it if you’d cut their hair, too.”
