Tau's Miracle: Alien Destination: Scifi FantasyRomance

She walked out and followed him to the structure they had cleared for this feast. Walking into the wide room she noticed the room held more Kriers then the base actually housed. Kriers stood and talked with each other as they held a vial of something she knew was deadly to her. She looked around noticing maybe for the first time that there did not seem to be any female Krier present. How could that be?
“May I eat?” She hated the pleading sound to her voice, but she was hungry.
Gor looked her over. “Eat. You will need your strength.”
She nodded and eased over to the other side of the room where there was a small table with edible food on it. She reached out and picked up several pieces of fruit, hoping her stomach would hold them all. She greedily ate the first as Ruuna approached her.
“Tonight they will rejoice like we would at a binding ceremony.”
She stared at him as she started in on the second piece of fruit. They had not said much to each other since the first day. She wondered who among the Mians spied, reporting their actions back to the Krier. She thought maybe it was Ruuna.
“Maybe the Mians will have a night of peace.” He looked at her with an assessing gaze.
“Maybe or maybe they will enjoy a peace that will not end.”
Talia watched as he walked away from her. What was it about him that made her uneasy? She had no time to pursue the thought as Gor motioned her to come to his side.
Standing next to Gor was another Krier who was roughly Gor’s height, but who looked much older. He was dressed in an elaborate outfit that left no doubt he was the high leader of the Kriers.
Gor reached out and drew her near before introducing her. “Pet, this is the exalted prime leader of all. Exalted, this is my pet.”
She felt his eyes crawling over her, making her want to shiver in dread, but she stood still, not moving a muscle.
“She is in excellent shape, Gor. She must be a worthy pet indeed.”
“How do you like it here, pet?”
She looked down and refused to speak, knowing to do so would encourage Gor to punish her.
“You may address the exalted one as Exalted Prime.”
“It is my honor to serve Exalted Prime.”
“Gor, she is so delightfully obedient. I must have time with her tomorrow.”
“As you wish Exalted One. You are dismissed.”
Talia knew she was being told to leave. She moved through the room and out the door without anyone stopping her. All knew she was the perfect pet. She did what she was told and if she had no orders, she waited patiently for them. The walk back to Gor’s dwellings was accomplished in no time. She crouched in the corner that had become her home and waited.
How much longer could she wait? The voice she pushed away with all her strength asked. She looked at the weapon that still lay in the room. It had been a test. She knew it when he brought it in and left it there. She passed the test, never even looking at it. Finally, she had cleaned it and recharged it. Now it sat there, calling her name.
Forcing herself to stand, she slipped into the stretches Tau had taught her. As she stretched, she reached for that part of herself she had been denying. She could feel Tau’s concern, like she was standing in the room with him. She knew she couldn’t answer, couldn’t assure him yet.
Finished with her stretches, she walked to the gun. If it was a trap, she was dead. If the leader of the Kriers got his hands on her, she would be dead. She would take her chances with the weapon. Picking it up, she waited for someone to invade the room, calling out. No one came.
She used the big pocket of the dress to hide the weapon before she left the room, walking in the direction of the gathering.
“Stop.”
Heart beating, she stopped and waited.
“Where are you going, pet, to the prime?”
“I need to go back to the gathering.”
He walked up to her and looked her over. Touching her arm and then sliding his hand down her back.
“The prime is indeed lucky to have a pet of your caliber. I am sure you will become pet to the Exalted One. He shares at times.” He walked away calling out, “Soon, pet.”
Talia changed her course and went to the biggest structure in the middle of the compound, once the Krier was out of sight. She slipped in, nobody was the wiser. They never locked anything. Why should they? No Mian would come here. She walked into the room with the red pulsing machinery. It knew why she was there.
She felt the pain ripping inside her skull. It promised her death. It would use every fear she ever had and torture her with it before she was allowed to slip away into death. She crossed over to it on unsteady legs. The closer she got, the more intense the pain became. She waited for it to call out for help, to alert the Kriers, but they never came.
She fell to the floor and watched as it pulsed. It was not a machine. It was alive. It was tortured, the same as she was being tortured. What could do this? Was it a race of some beings who had been destroyed? She felt like the answers were right there on the other side of the pain.
She reached into the pocket of the dress with shaking hands. Her fingers found the weapon, but trembled to violently to gasp it. Whatever it was wanted to live. It was fighting for its life. She pushed past the pain to feel it. It was not good or bad. She realized it felt no hatred towards her people. It simply did what it was created to do. Another alien, one they were never meant to interact with.
Forcing her fingers to grasp the weapon, she pulled it out. Silently, she apologized to the being in front of her and pulled the trigger. The cry it gave was loud and sharp as its body pulled in the light before splintering. She felt intense pain, before she felt nothing. The silence in her head was deadening. Slowly, she became aware that hers was the only voice she heard. She could now move with ease.
That’s when she heard the yell and the voices of the Mians attacking the Kriers. She pushed to her feet and went to join the attackers. She could see Zymar and the others she had met at his compound attacking. She watched as the Kriers staggered out on unsteady feet, meeting the attack head on.
She stayed to the edges of the fighting. There was only one person she wanted to find and she knew where he would be headed. She walked over to the ships that were still sitting on the ground and the one hovering. Aiming carefully, she fired on the hovering ship. It was the one they would most likely try to escape in. Ignoring the others for now, she kept searching.
She found Gor at the entrance of the last ship. It was the furthest away and the one that had the best hope of lifting up.
“Pet.” He called out when he caught sight of her. “I knew you would come. I am leaving. Hurry, before we are found.”
Talia walked up to him with a smile of relief on her face. “What happened?”
“Someone destroyed one of our slaves from a distant planet. This will not affect you, hurry.”
“Gor.”
“I said move pet.”
She raised the weapon. “This is for the living creature I killed tonight and for every Mian.”
She fired the weapon, then walked away never looking back.
Chapter Eighteen
“Everything is over except the celebration,” Zymar told Tau when he came back to Azure. He came back without the one person Tau wanted, Talia. It had been hard for the male to look at him when he said no one knew where she was. They checked every body, freed every Mian and placed them somewhere they could recover, but Talia had not been with them.
When they finally recovered the body of the leader, the Mians identified him. He died from the same weapon as the machinery that had been blown to bits. Talia had done it. So where was she? One ship escaped that night. It hadn’t been located with the others. It was thought to be the one who led the Kriers. They had been close.
Tau stood and watched as every Mian in Azure celebrated. They worked hard for this victory and suffered many traumatic blows. They deserved this. If Talia was by his side, he too would be celebrating. Looki
ng around, he decided to leave.
“Where are you going?”
He gave a half smile, but never turned around. He could always count on Tarek to have his back. “I need to go home. I crave the solitude.”
“Tau, I am concerned. You need to be looked at.”
“Tomorrow will be soon enough. I need tonight.” It was as close as he could come to a plea.
“Tomorrow, but if you’re not here for breakfast, I will come collect you.”
Tau nodded his head and walked off. The loneliness he was experiencing was crushing him. He could feel Talia’s fear and disgust with herself. She thought she didn’t deserve him. How could she, after what she had been through? No matter how he tried to assure her, to ask her to come home, she resisted.
After all the assurances and the cajoling. After all the ‘I love you’s’ and ‘don’t hide from me, Lia’s,’ he had left it at three simple words. I. Need. You.
Now he walked home alone, feeling his heart breaking. He missed her and really didn’t care who knew it. Taking a misstep, he stumbled. Tarek was right. He needed to be looked at.
“You never stumble.”
Tau raised his head to see her standing in the distance. “Lia.” His voice broke and he was sure he now knew why females cried.
She was at his side in a minute. He relaxed as he felt her slip her arms around him, helping him reach the dwelling. He did not need much help, but he would never tell her that. She was home.
“I leave for a couple of days and you celebrate until you can’t walk straight.”
“Never that, Lia.” He gave a rusty chuckle. “I have had no reason to celebrate until now.”
They walked in going directly to the sleeping space. Tau stopped her when she wanted him to sit. All he wanted to do was look at her.
“You are so beautiful, Lia.”
“Tau, you don’t understand.”
“Then make me understand.”
“The leader, Gor. He treated me like I was a pet. He felt like he had a right to touch me, feel me. He did it to humiliate me. The voice in my head felt so real, like it was mine telling me I had no rights. I was just something to be owned.”
He watched as she never raised her head. Her shoulders were slumped and the air of defeat seemed to cover her.
“I need a shower.”
“Alright.” He would have loved to have gone with her, if only she would have welcomed him.
Sitting on the bed, he wondered what to tell her first. He sat remembering his past until she walked in.
Smiling, he patted the area beside himself. He took her hand and pulled her closer when she sat.
“Talia, the thing about strategizing is no matter how good you are at it, something can always go wrong.” He stopped to stroke her stiff shoulders. “The Kriers are some sort of parasites. They live off of other living hosts. They also seem to be closely related to insects; highly evolved insects. You may have noticed all you saw were males. That is because they are asexual. They lay eggs in the bodies of other warm blooded beings. It’s is how they reproduce. When they found out we were different, two sexes, they seemed to become envious.”
Tau drew her further onto the bed and cradled her in his arms. “They watched us mate in the beginning and found a way to try and humiliate us, both male and female. They took great pleasure in it. Talia, you did not stay because you took pleasure in it. You stayed because you had a job to do. I always felt your desire to do what you had given your word to do. Even when you thought you were done and helpless, you held on. I look at you and I am honored that you are my mate.”
She rolled over and buried her head in his shoulders. “You gave me strength, even when you could not afford it.”
“I will always support you, little warrior.”
He watched the smile that came to her lips and the sudden brightness that came to her eyes. She was in no way healed, he knew that, but he would walk this path with her. He would bring her out of the darkness.
He felt her hand exploring his abdomen.
“Tau, why are you so soft?”
“Lia, remember when we talked about having young?”
She nodded her head and said nothing.
“When I said I would carry them, my body began to change so I could hold them. Then one night when we were together, we made a young one.”
“You carry our young? Why didn’t you tell me?”
“You were going to war, Lia. I wanted you focused on what you needed to do. Besides, Tarek nags like an aged female. I knew I would be cared for.” He stopped and waited. “Are you upset, Lia?”
“No. I am amazed at your generosity. You love me.”
“Yes, Lia. I do.”
“Make love to me, Tau. Chase away the horrors I have seen.”
***
Tau presented himself for breakfast the next day with Talia in tow. He ate, silently encouraging Talia to remember she was among friends. There was no need to hide, he reminded her.
He smiled when he looked at her. She cried out so sweetly the night before chanting his name as she held onto him like she might lose him any second. He had made love to her until she had dropped into a peaceful sleep.
Zymar walked in and took a seat.
“Talia, we are in your debt.”
Tau watched her eyes come up to meet Zymar’s.
“You have freed the whole region. The Kriers have been dealt a critical blow and the chances of us taking our planet back have just increased. All because you were willing to let us use you in an unpleasant way. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
Tau smiled at his Lia. He was not supposed to be where he was when he had spotted her. He had been grappling with the fact that they were losing the war, although no one would acknowledge it. He had known if Azure fell, the Kriers would wipe the rest of the planet like a plague. He had seen no way for Azure to survive once they mounted an all-out attack.
He had walked deeper into the woods, knowing that if he should be captured the end for Azure would come sooner, but he couldn’t ignore the compulsion to move. He had known the minute he saw her stand up on shaky legs. He knew he was connected to her somehow.
How quickly his life has changed. He was now with the other half of his soul. He carried their young proudly and Azure was safe. The Mian now stood a fighting chance.
Talia was his own personal miracle and she didn’t realize it.
Epilogue
“Report.” The Voice of the Exalted one rang out.
“The planet has been lost to us.” A voice strong voice carried over all the confusion. “Our weapon was destroyed. We have nothing as effective to use against the people from Aylon.”
“Where is Gor?”
“He was murdered on the planet, by his pet according to those who were approaching when it was done.”
“I will need a new Prime.”
The room went totally quiet. The position of the Prime was envied and feared. The Exalted one was known to kill his Primes on a whim. It had been amazing that Gor lasted as long as he did.
“I volunteer for Prime.” The same voice spoke up even as he moved from the back of the control room to the front.
The Exalted one looked over him before nodding he would do.
“Find the next planet for harvesting; once we are there find me a pet. I feel like reproducing.
Shudders went through those present at the thought of the exalted one reproducing.
“Prime, what is your name?”
“Layke.”
“Layke is the new commander of this vessel as well as the Prime. Do not fail me Layke or you will not be as fortunate as your predecessor.”
