  “And each other,” Ron echoed.

  “That is wisdom, my friend. The rest is up to God.”

  “Thanks, Maestro.”

  “The advice of an old bachelor on fatherhood cannot be worth much.”

  “I appreciate it, anyway.” Ron got up and headed for the door.

  “Oh, and Ronald?” the old man said.

  “Yes?”

  “Will you please take your infernal cat with you so I may watch my movie in peace?”

  Laughing, Ron went over and picked up the cat. “Come on, Nimrod,” he said. “I’ll practice on you for a while. If I can love a shoe-killer like you, a baby has nothing to worry about.”
