Taking in Seamus’ smooth, rippled, bare chest, I exhaled.

He did the same and after a whistle, said, “Goddamn, you’re gorgeous, Star.”

“I could say the same about you. Anyone ever tell you that you look like a young Brad Pitt? Like when he was in Thelma & Louise?” I wasn’t lying. Seamus looked exactly like him.

Seamus chuckled, “No! At least not to my face.”

  “Well, you do.”

“Well, if I’m Brad Pitt, you’re Sophia Vergara.”

I stepped up to him and unbuckled his belt. “Talk like that’ll get you laid.”

Seamus moaned and tipped his head back when I pushed his pants over his hips and cupped his cock over his black boxer briefs. He was already semihard. Something had to be done about that. I sat back on the chair in front of him and pulled him toward me. I was in process of looping my finger around the elastic of his briefs to “get more familiar” with his cock, when he put both his hands over mine.

“No, ladies first,” he commanded, his green eyes burning with want. He dropped immediately on his knees in front of me. He leaned forward and planted warm, wet suckles across my collarbone, down my cleavage and over the tops of my breasts. I raked my hands into his hair and took in all the sensation. Somehow he divested me of my front closure bra without any effort on my part and his mouth laved my nipples, causing them to erupt into tight points.

I brought a leg up to his lower back and slid it down his ass and thigh as a long moan escaped me. My thought was to pull him up and slide my now needy core against him, but he moved further down, kissing all the way down my stomach.

When he reached the top of my panties, he slid his tongue between the material and my skin and stroked me all the way to the left and then back to the right, before grabbing the sides of my panties and ripping them down and off in a single movement. I heard them hit against something as he tossed them away.

In the next second, Seamus’ flattened tongue delivered firm pressure to my already pulsing clit. He didn’t stop there. He swirled his tongue, then lapped, then swirled. I rotated my hips in response. It was as if he couldn’t get enough, and soon he had my thighs on his shoulders as he worked me over ever more fervently.

I grabbed that back of his head and my thighs throbbed as he sent me into a rolling orgasm.

“Oh! Oh my God! Oh my God! YESSSSSS!” I bellowed.

Seamus just kept going, drinking up everything I gave. I was out of breath and grinning like a Cheshire cat when he lifted his head and smiled.

  “Delicious.”

I never blushed, but I did then. I’d never had a lover who was quite so appreciative. I wanted to please him right back.

I sat up, stood, took him by the shoulders, spun him and then pushed on his chest so that he fell backward into the chair I was just in. My police training came in handy for getting anyone into any position I wanted them. Seamus was completely compliant.

This time I succeeded in getting to my knees in front of him. Seamus’ erection was now fully hard and peeking out of the top of his briefs. I shimmied them down his legs and his cock sprang up. I could not wait to taste him. I ran my thumb across his taint before using my whole hand to cup his balls. With the other one I fisted his shaft before bending to take the crown in my mouth and sucked off a bit of pre-cum.

Seamus hummed and chanted, “Star, Star, oh my God, Star.”

I tuned him out to concentrate on taking as much of him in my mouth as I could. I shifted between sucking his whole shaft and rotating and power sucking his crown.

My mouth vibrated and my lips were numb, when Seamus lurched forward, grabbed a fistful of my hair and groaned loudly. His balls, which I had continued to massage while sucking him off, tightened and he came spectacularly. I swallowed as quickly as I could, gobbling up all of him. Talk about delicious.

We helped each other locate our articles of clothes that were strewn around the room, laughing that my panties had landed on top of one of the bedposts.

“The bed. We never got to the bed.” Seamus pouted with mock sadness.

I checked the clock over the door. “We only have five more minutes in here.”

“I don’t want to leave, Star. I want to spend more time with you.”

I’d usually end my sexual encounters at ANON with a handshake and a thank you, but something about Seamus felt different. He took such care to make sure I was pleasured first. And nobody had ever asked to spend more time with me outside of the club.

Seamus shrugged on the suit jacket he’d carried in with him. He looked just as delicious in full attire as he did naked. “I know a place we can go. Away from here. That is, if you trust me.”

For some reason I did and I had to admit, I wanted more time with him, too. I wasn’t worried about being alone with him. I was a police officer for God’s sake and maybe I didn’t have a sex toy in my clutch, but I did have my revolver and a pair of handcuffs.

“A hotel?” I guessed. “It’s New Year’s Eve. There’s no way there are any available tonight.”

“Don’t worry. I got you, girl.”

Girl? I guess someone else besides Kirk called me that now. Looks like my bad decision to venture out on New Year’s was turning into a good one.

Seamus asked if it was okay if we walked, since we were going only three blocks away. I agreed, even though I was wearing three-inch Manolos. The walk was quick, and soon we were at a luxury apartment building right off the west side of Central Park on 72nd.

  “Seamus, this is the Dakota.”

“Yeah. Some people I know live here. They’re out of town and asked me to watch the place.”

The doorman let us right in, simply saying, “Sir.” He tipped his hat at me.

We took the elevator to the sixth floor. The Dakota was legend in New York. Home to celebrities and where John Lennon lost his life to a maniac stalker. I could barely believe I was inside.

Seamus held my hand for the entire walk and in the elevator. Even more surprising, I let him. Intimacy was’t something I did well.

When we entered the apartment, I was fairly sure my jaw dropped to the floor. It was beautiful. An Architectural Digest photo shoot in real life with an eclectic mix of antique furniture and mid-century modern elements. The fabrics on the furniture, walls and windows were heavily embroidered and obviously expensive.

  “Want another, drink?”

“O-okay.” Damn, did I just stutter?

As Seamus was clinking around with the glasses and ice, I took a self-guided tour of the living area. Once I reached the grand piano covered with photographs, many of Seamus himself, I realized this was his home. He’s rich. Like, rich rich.

I yelled into the kitchen, “Is this your apartment?”

“No, it’s my parents,’ ” Seamus said as he came back in and found me at the piano. He handed me a scotch on the rocks.

  Hmm, he paid attention.

  “Your parents?”

“Well, my mother and stepfather actually. I’m just watching it while they spend New Year’s in Gstaad. They left the day after Christmas. I just check in every couple of days.”

“Wow!” I spun in place and took in the whole place.

  “Yeah, it’s something else, huh?”

Was this guy for real? Hot, funny, and could hold his own with me. And that suit. Jesus, it was like Porn by Hugo Boss for me. I needed more of him and soon.

“It’s a really nice place. Why don’t you show me the bedroom?”

“Okay. Direct. To the point. I knew there was a reason I was attracted to you immediately. I mean, beside the fact that you look like sin in a cocktail dress.”

We both took one more swallow of our drinks. Seamus grabbed my hand, and we practically sprinted to the opposite corner of the apartment. My heels flew off after the first few steps. Seamus spoke in rapid fire narration, giving me a tour on the way.

“That’s the kitchen, dining room, there’s the bathroom, over there is my stepdad’s office…” Then
we stopped in a doorway. “And this…”—He pushed the double doors open—“is the bedroom.” It wasn’t just a bedroom. It was a suite with a huge king-size four-poster centered along the far wall.

He stepped in and offered me a hand to follow him.

The grandfather clock in the room struck twelve.

We wished each other a happy New Year, and everything after that was a whirl. We were fully naked and glommed onto each other in mere minutes while traversing the distance to the bed.

When my backside hit the edge of the bed, Seamus pulled down the comforter, swiftly lifted me and threw me into the center of the thousand thread-count sheets. Then he straddled me, pulled both my hands over my head and SNAP! I was captive! Seamus had handcuffed my hands to the headboard! His technique was excellent. He’d had training at some point.

Looking down at me, he ran a single finger across my jaw and down my neck. “Star, you have the right to remain silent,” he informed me in a deep growl. He was actually reading me my rights! “But I’d rather you scream.”

  “You are a cop.”

“Nah, I just watch a lot of Law & Order. Dun-Dun!”

I couldn’t help the belly laugh that escaped. Seamus stopped it with a toe-curling kiss as he aligned his hardened cock with my slick core and drove in hard. He filled me completely and began thrusting, hitting all the right places. I met him thrust for thrust but wanted him deeper.

“Can you let me out of the cuffs? They’re sort of digging into me.”

  “You haven’t screamed yet.”

  “Oh, I will. I promise.”

Still thrusting, he removed them. The moment my second hand was released, I snatched the cuffs and flipped Seamus on his back. He let out an “Oof” and began laughing uncontrollably.

  “You’re a switch.”

  “Yup.”

Seamus scooted up, so his back was against the headboard. I took one of his hands and cuffed it tightly to one of the bedposts.

“Just one?” he asked, smirking at me.

“Oh, I need you to have the other one free.”

Then I mounted his erection and rode him furiously. I didn’t have to tell him what to do with that free hand. He grabbed my hip and thrust even farther into me, and then he slipped his thumb down to apply deep, rotating pressure to my throbbing clit.

After long minutes of thrusting, changing tempos several times, a shiver grabbed ahold of me, starting at my toes and climbing to my thighs, ass and core. Everything contracted. I screamed, a tight, near voiceless scream that evolved into a low, rumbling groan as I flooded Seamus’ cock. He thrust two or three more times and then joined his voice with my garbled exultations.

I pulled myself off Seamus with a huge sigh. Then I curled into his side and began bawling. Tears. Big, fat tears. I’d not shed tears in years. At least ten.

“Hey, Star, baby girl? Why are you crying?”

It all came out in a torrential word vomit. Yadi. 9/11. No relationships since. Why I went to ANON. All of it. Except my real name and my job.

“Seamus, I’ve never been with anyone more than once since then and never outside of ANON. I’ve never had sex in a bed in fifteen years. My work, my family, my sex life—they’re all compartmentalized in little boxes in my head and heart. I only open them one at a time. Tonight, I just upended one of them.”

“Shh, Star. It’s okay. I don’t know anyone that lost someone that day that doesn’t do that to some extent. Maybe not as strictly or specifically as you, but, yeah, I get it.”

  “Did you lose someone?”

“Yeah, my dad…” I lifted my head from his chest to see his face. Seamus was turned away, looking out the window. “He was a broker… at Cantor Fitzgerald.”

I sat up and held him tight.

  “Oh, Seamus.”

  “Yeah.”

“Yadier was a chef at Windows on the World.”

“My dad used to take me there. I was thirteen when he died. My mom was a wreck. I’m so glad she met Sid, my stepdad. It helped her. But I still miss my dad, every day.”

A single tear slid down his face. I reached up and wiped it away.

Seamus swallowed a couple of times and shook his head as if to chase away his thoughts. Then he changed the subject. “Star, I like you. I want to see you again. Can I have your number?”

I thought for so long that Seamus had to ask again.

  “Um, Sure.”

I gave it to him and told him to call me in a couple days. He said he would and that a couple of days was perfect because he was starting a new job after the holiday and needed to focus.

We talked for a few more hours, avoiding sad subjects and the few things I hadn’t revealed about myself, but it was getting to be the wee hours of New Year’s Day. I knew my parents would worry. I sat up and slipped out of bed.

  “Hey, don’t go.”

“I have to.” I called the car service, dressed and left.

I spent all of New Year’s Day during our family dinner and football watching thinking of Seamus. Of his hands and mouth and how they felt on my skin. Of his smile and laugh. And the feeling of him on me, in me.

I was not at all engaged in the football games. I kept checking my phone for a call or a message, even though I knew it would be a day or two before I heard from him. At one point, a text came through from Kelso at the station:

Hey, we got lucky with these new detectives that started today.

This one guy, James, seems really capable. I think you’ll be happy.

Well, at least things on the job were under control even if I wasn’t. It didn’t matter. What happened over New Year’s didn’t have to affect anything at work. Once I slipped on my suit and glasses, I’d be the same old ball-buster captain I was on December 30. I texted Kelso back.

  K. Good to hear.

I walked into Precinct 69 on Monday in my usual “all business” manner. Messenger bag over my shoulder, revolver under my jacket, bun up, glasses on, and ready to solve cases. I went straight to my office. No sooner did I flip on the light and walk to my desk than there was a knock at my office door.

Behind me, Kelso said, “Hey, Miranda, welcome back.”

I didn’t turn around. Kelso liked to chitchat. Me, not so much. “Come in, but make it quick. I’ve been out for two days and I got a lot to catch up on.”

“Always, working, Cap. Just wanted to introduce you to your new people.”

  “OK.”

I turned and behind Kelso to the left was a short dull brown-haired woman with the same JCPenney pantsuit I was wearing. Kelso introduced her as Detective “something or other” Sutton, but I barely comprehended his words because to Kelso’s right was Seamus!

What in the hell was going on! Shit! No! This was a joke. Seamus looked as shocked as I felt. Could Kelso make out that I recognized Seamus?

It didn’t seem so because he just kept talking. “Detective James McAtee, this is Captain Estrella Miranda.”

I schooled my expression and walked over to Sutton, shook her hand, and shook Seamus’s or James’s—or whatever his name was—hand.

“Good to meet you both.” An idea shot into my brain just at that moment. “I’d like to speak with you both individually. Get to know you. McAtee, why don’t you stay? Sutton, I’ll be with you in a few.”

“Sure thing, Captain.” Sutton agreed in a rough, low voice that didn’t match her small size.

I dismissed Kelso, too. “Thanks for the introductions, Kelso.” Then I added, “And for covering for me the last couple days.”

  “Hey, no problem.”

“Yeah, Just close that door on the way out.” Ever compliant, Kelso did just that.

  “Star.”

  “Seamus.”

We spoke simultaneously as we rushed toward each other, but stopped just short of embracing. I checked to make sure all the blinds in my office where down, which they were.

“This is your new job?” I questioned, trying to cover how truly stunned I was.

&n
bsp; “Yeah, I said I was in law enforcement.”

“I thought you were kidding because you thought I was kidding.”

“I did think you were messing with me, but I figured what the hell. Nobody ever believes I’m a cop. It’s why I’m so good at undercover.”

I smirked, thinking of the two ways that could be taken.

Ever the administrator, the department’s anti-fraternization policies jumped to the forefront of my mind.

“We can’t. We can’t date. I’m your superior.”

  “In every way.”

  God, he was so perfect.

“Before you say anything more, I’ve already decided. Just now. The second I saw you standing there. Star, I’m transferring out to vice. Kelso’s already in love with me. I seem to have a way with management.”

  “Don’t be cute.”

  “Can’t help it.”

“You don’t have to do that. What about your career?”

“You mean my job? ’Cause that’s what it is. It’s a job, and frankly, I’ve just spent six months undercover investigating homicides by the Five Families. I could use a little time hanging out with hookers and going to casinos—”

“Seamus,” I said, interrupting and imploring him to be serious.

“Girl, I was going to call you tonight and if you didn’t answer, I was prepared to go back to ANON every night until you came back.”

I let him pull me to him, so I could feel the body I’d enjoyed so much just two nights ago. We’re face-to-face, studying each other as if we’d been apart for years.

“Now, I don’t have to. I know where to find you. I need to tell you, Captain. New Year’s Eve? I had the best night of my life. I can’t stop thinking about you. And this? This is the last place I thought I’d find you, but here you are.”

I couldn’t let him leave his job. It wasn’t right. “We can’t.”
