But there are a lot of unprofessional positions I’d prefer he put me in.

What is wrong with me? Why am I having these thoughts? I’m supposed to be here to interview for a nanny position for Pete’s sake. To take care of a small child, not to lust after their perfect papa.

I bet his wife is just as successful as he is. That’s why they need a nanny. They’re probably a power couple and I’ll be nothing more than the help.

I really need to temper my enthusiasm down right now, and thinking like that should be an easy way to do it.

But it’s not working. I’m just so attracted to him. Something about the way he carries himself makes me want to carry myself right over there behind his desk and then sit on his lap.

Was saving myself for the right guy the wrong move? I’ve waited my entire life for my first time and maybe all this waiting is just making me that much hornier now.

But I’ve never been this turned on. Ever.

I remember meeting lots of girls in college who just decided to “get it out of the way” first semester. They often regretted their decisions. I definitely don’t want to regret anything in life, especially not that.

Call me crazy, but I still think there’s one guy out there for me and I want him to be my first and my one and only.

I just never thought my body was going to react to a guy I met on a job interview on a morning I was chased by a bear.

Maybe the whole life and death thing is getting to me. The excitement you feel right after you have a near death experience. That must be it.

But that bear never really had a chance. Sure he was big and scary, but he never got closer than five feet to me. Five feet is awful close though. Except right now.

There must be five feet separating where he’s sitting and where I’m sitting and it feels like the deepest darkest ocean could fit in-between.

I just want to feel his touch again. To look into his eyes. To smell his deep, woodsy scent. He smells like success and he smells like a man.

And the way his broad shoulders fill out that Savile Row suit made of Italian fabric there’s no doubt that he’s all man. Or should I say beast?

Boys my age get big from lifting weight and eating tons of protein. He’s a fully developed man. This is simply him. At his age he is who he is. He’s not developing himself into something, which also means he’s not like the guys you see at university who use steroids, HGH, and whatever other drugs are out there to get big, only to return to their normal size a few weeks later.

And I definitely don’t have to worry about size with him. He’s not only big in the shoulders and chest, but that bulge in his pants and the size of his shoes tell me he’s big all over.

Just being around him makes me feels so feminine, so small. I could eat breakfast burritos, avocado toast, and Ben and Jerry’s ice cream everyday for a year and still look like a waify fashion model next to him. Like a twig next to a Redwood.

“So you like being around children?” he asks, snapping me back from my point blank stair.

  “I love kids, yes.”

  “What about babies?” he asks.

“Babies. Kids. Children of all kinds. I absolutely love and adore them.”

His eyes narrow so much he’s squinting in this room full of light as he looks at me.

Without taking his eyes off mine he reaches for a piece of paper on his desk. He wads it up and tosses it in the wastebasket, his eyes never flinching.

“Let me introduce you to Mikey.”

  CHAPTER 4

  Cash

I’d prepared a whole list of interview questions to ask her, but that plans out the window.

There’s no need for it anymore. I want her to watch Michael. She’s perfect. I can just tell.

Plus I know from years of experience that listening is one thing, watching is another.

I can ask her canned questions and listen to her replies, or I can have a real moment with her. Introduce her to Mikey and see her face and how she responds. That will show me everything I need to know. I’ve already seen her resume and checked her references. Everyone speaks highly of her and says she’s a great fit.

They were right. She’s right. Now let’s just see what Mikey thinks.

I stand from my desk and slide sideways to get around the edge. I don’t want to turn and give her a profile shot of me. My throbbing erection will be too obvious, not that it probably isn’t already.

She stands with me and I usher her towards the door. Instinctively I place my hand on the small of her back. It’s a common gesture, but my reaction is anything but common. I feel those goose bumps overtake my arm for a second time. Oh how I want to run my hand a little lower, or even a little higher, just to get that feeling of the curve of her lower back. Her breasts and legs and thighs are perfect, but it’s those subtle things, those often overlooked parts that I’m most interested in…especially when it comes to her.

Her lower back. The back of her knees. The lower neck and upper shoulders…the area that’s covered by her hair right now. Those are the areas that intrigue me so much it takes everything not to just swoop her hair to the side right now and put a soft kiss right there on her neck as my fingers fan out below on her lower back. Damn, I want to do that so bad, but I can’t.

I’m a private person to start with and I’m not about to invade someone else’s privacy, especially not hers.

We walk through my office door and over next to Bunny’s desk.

“Oh my god! He’s so cute!” Mary says, seeing him there inside his little crib for the first time.

I’ve got a kind of stroller / crib there stationed next to her desk. It’s kind of a hybrid that we use in the office. When it’s behind her desk clients can’t see it, but we roll it into my office when I’m not in meetings so he’s right there next to me so I can keep an eye on him. It works perfectly.

And out of respect for the interview I didn’t have him in my office. I didn’t even know if Mary would work out, until the moment I laid eyes on her.

I consider it a privilege to meet my child, and she has definitely earned that right.

I watch as her eyes light up and her pupils dilate as she leans in towards his crib. Her hands come up from her sides instinctively and she reaches towards him before stopping, remembering this is an interview and it’s also not her child.

She turns and looks at me. “Wow, he’s so cute.”

“I think he feels the same about you,” I say motioning with my head and eyes back towards the crib.

Mary turns to see Mikey smiling and laughing as he looks right up at her. His feet and hands raise and I watch Mary’s heart melt right there in real time.

She turns back to me. “May I?”

  “Of course,” I say.

She slowly reaches into the crib, making sure to get the proper support behind his head and body and then leans in, carefully lifting him from the crib and into her arms where she pulls him into her chest. It’s like he fits there perfectly.

  “Oh my gosh,” she says.

I can see Mikey’s face over her shoulder. He is laughing and smiling still as Mary bends her knees up and down slightly creating the kind of motion Mikey likes the most.

Mikey looks into my eyes and I feel something I’ve never felt before. It’s like we’re almost a…family. The thought of such a thing would have sounded ridiculous when I woke up this morning, and it kind of does even now, except that it doesn’t.

I make split second decisions based on the financial markets. My livelihood, and that of my clients, depends on it. I have to size up information quickly and act strongly based on my decisiveness.

And everything I’m seeing right now tells me she’s the perfect fit…not just to be my nanny, but a whole lot more.

Mixing business and pleasure is something I’ve absolutely never done. Even when the most beautiful actresses from Hollywood try and flirt with me I don’t respond. Everything in my office is about professionalism. It has to be that way, esp
ecially when we’re dealing with large sums of money.

And I should keep this entirely professional. The idea was to hire someone who I can trust in my home and with my child. That in and of itself is personal by definition, but I was sure the relationship would be one of complete professionalism.

  Sure was until her.

I look at Bunny who was already looking at me. I point at the stack of applications on her desk and then move my hand horizontally towards her trashcan. Bunny nods and quickly lifts the stack from her desk and throws them away.

There’s no need to look further. I’ve found my nanny…the perfect companion for Mikey.

And the perfect companion for me as well.

  CHAPTER 5

  Mary

  The next morning

I get into my car and open the location Cash sent me through WhatsApp. I click on it opening it up on my GPS.

I look down expecting to see a Woody Creek address, but don’t.

  Aspen.

  He lives in Aspen?

I didn’t think to check last night because I spent the entire night thinking of something else.

  Him.

Where he lived was secondary. I knew he must live around here somewhere, but I didn’t expect it to be Aspen. I’m not sure why though. Maybe just because he’s so understated.

But Aspen is only eight miles from Woody Creek so it won’t add any noticeable time to my commute. And I’ve been up since five anyway after only falling asleep around two thirty, so I figured it’s better to leave early anyways just in case.

I want to make a good impression, a really good impression. The same kind of impression he made on me yesterday.

And the incredible impression Mikey made on me too.

I can only imagine how lucky his mother is to have both Cash literally, and cash figuratively, and such a beautiful son.

I plugged Cash Guy into Google last night. It makes me laugh every time I see it. I can just imagine his clients talking.

  “Who’s your cash guy?”

  “Well Cash Guy of course.”

  “Really? Me to.”

Followed by a lot of laughter thinking they're pretty clever.

But I’m not as clever as I thought I was either as my results turned up zero results. I even tried to find him on social media and couldn’t. So Google and social media have nothing. This guy really is private.

Today I hope to find out his relationship status. I didn’t feel, or see, a ring on his finger yesterday when we shook hands. That doesn’t necessarily mean anything but it’s definitely an interesting start.

And when I pull up the small road that leads to his house I get a different kind of start, as in the kind that gets your heart beating real fast.

Cash is there in a pair of short jogging shorts hosing himself down next to the house.

  He must be freezing.

My eyes drift to his groin and…oh, no. He’s definitely not freezing.

He’s not as excited as he was yesterday, but he’s still sporting quite the package.

I hit the breaks, but it’s too late. The hose lowers from above his head and his head moves down looking straight at me.

He doesn’t smile. He doesn’t flinch. He doesn’t move at all.

A few seconds pass where he stares at me staring at him. Then his arm raises and he motions me over with all the fingers of his hand. It’s the same motion I wish he would do to me somewhere else on my body, not that he’d be able to fit all four of those fingers…well.

I slowly accelerate up the last bit of the small road and into his driveway. I pull up right in front of the house and he’s already there to greet me when I arrive.

  “Good morning,” he says.

  “Morning.”

  “You’re here early.”

  “I’m sorry. I hope it’s not a problem.”

“Not a problem at all. I like people who are anxious to get to work. I’m that way myself.”

He’s already got my car door open and offers me his hand when I get out of the car. He’s standing back a bit making sure not to drip on me though.

  “Come on in,” he says.

I walk up the steps to his palatial estate. It’s understated like his office yet still massive and absolutely breathtaking. It doesn’t scream gaudy or attempt to show off at all.

He grabs a towel the minute we step inside and towels himself off in the entryway.

“Get your run in…oh,” the woman says. “Hello I’m Carrie. Nice to meet you.”

“Nice to meet you too,” I say. But it’s absolutely not nice to meet her. This must be his wife. All that tossing and turning not being able to sleep last night was for nothing. Rats!

“Mikey’s still sleeping,” she says to Cash.

“Great. I’ll just grab a quick shower and be gone. That way you two ladies can get acquainted without me here getting in your way.”

“Nonsense,” she says. She’s right. It would be better if she left and he and I stayed back with Mikey. What’s wrong with me?

Cash walks down the hallway and I hear a shower turn on.

“Thanks so much for agreeing to watch after Mikey.”

  “My pleasure.”

“Can I get you anything to drink? Coffee or tea, maybe?”

“I’m okay, but if you’re having a coffee I certainly wouldn’t mind one as well.”

“I always start the day with a cup. Two coming right up.”

I follow her into the kitchen where she prepares the most delicious cappuccinos. We sit and chat for a minute and I start to feel bad about my initial thoughts about her. She’s very nice and a wonderful listener. I guess it must be this easy to be happy all the time when your life is like this.

Not more than ten minutes later Cash is standing in front of us in a suit and tie looking incredible.

“Okay, ladies. Sorry to leave so quickly but I’m off,” he says. “Good luck on your first day,” he says to me before quickly making his way to the front door. I notice he doesn’t give his wife a kiss, but then again we’re all busy these days right? He might be in a hurry to meet someone this morning.

Over the next few hours Carrie gives me the rundown on everything about the house and everything about Mikey.

The house is absolutely gorgeous. She’s done a great job decorating it. The living room has a button you can press and a panoramic glass window slides to the side and the fresh air comes right in. I can only imagine how much that costs. And what is even more unimaginable is the view. Sitting in the living room you can see right out across the valley and look at the snow capped mountains. There’s not much snow to speak of this time of year, but still just enough to make them absolutely postcard worthy.

This is life at a whole other level, one I’m not familiar with. My grandparents bought a home in Woody Creek before it got popular. Our family has done all we can to keep it, working hard to keep up with the rising property values in the area and the taxes due on them. There’s no way we’d be able to afford living here now. It’s priced way out of our league.

Right at noon the bell rings and Carrie rushes off to answer it. She’s back in a flash with lunch. I didn’t even know she ordered it.

We dig in and I can tell right away that it’s five star restaurant quality, which I confirm when I see the name on the bag. I just can’t fathom this kind of lifestyle at all. I mean I only live eight miles from Aspen, but I never really come here. Everything is way out of my price range and as a kid I spent most of my time in Woody Creek just running around by myself making up games with my imagination. Sometimes I forget how close this kind of life is to where I live.

As soon as we finish lunch we feed Mikey. He’s easy to feed and not fussy at all. That’s a welcome surprise for day one on the job.

“Okay. Do you have any questions?” Carrie asks.

  “I think I’ve got everything,” I say.

“Great. Well it was nice meeting you. I’m sure I’ll see you again.”

  “You won
’t be back before your husband gets home?” I ask.

“My?…Oh my gosh,” she says laughing so hard she bends at the waist and places her hand on her chest. “My husband? I can’t wait to tell Cash that.”

  “You mean he’s not…”

  “Heavens no. He’s my brother!”
