No, I needed to get out.

Panic started to swell and rise in my body. I needed to calm down and think straight. But it was difficult when I couldn’t breathe.

With a trembling wave of my torch, the beam landed upon an access panel a few feet ahead. If I could only make it there, open it and catch my breath, I’d be OK, I thought.

My thighs screamed in protest as I shuffled hurriedly along, ready to unlatch the panel the moment my fingers brushed the metal.

Finally, I crouched in front of it, ready to take a welcoming breath of air, as I helped open the panel quicker, my feet kicking out and forcing it free.

I spilled through the gap, falling breathlessly onto the floor. The air was cool, as I sucked it into my desperate lungs. My throat felt raw and I closed my eyes waiting for my pulse and breathing to return to normal. It had been like I’d been suffocated.

Once calm, I opened my eyes.

Above me green spirals glowed. And I closed my eyes again thinking I was hallucinating. When I reopened them, I blinked rapidly, squinting in a desperate attempt to figure out what I was seeing.

The whole room was glowing with a mixture of greens and soft pale yellows. The walls, everything, even the ceiling was covered with what looked to be some sort of living plant life. A dense moss that shimmered and sparkled.

The floor beneath me, my finger tips resting upon a plush canvas, was made of the same greenery. No wonder it had felt like I’d landed upon a pillow when I’d fell through the hatch.

Getting to my knees I took in the rest of the room. There was no way I was meant to be in here. But I couldn’t stop myself from looking and moving deeper within the space.

Ahead of me, calling to me, was a pulsing bright light that glowed from within a crystalline structure. It reached all the way to the ceiling, a massive stone, nestled protectively into the moss of the walls.

At the base I noticed smaller replicas of the clear stone. Tiny crystals that could easily fit in the palm of a hand.

And in a semi-circular arc before the towering crystal were several stone circles…

I gasped as I realized what the room was for. It was an altar. It had to be, the way the room was set up. Or at very least a sacred place for the Te’Vanians.

I should not be in here, my rational mind screamed, urging me to retreat. If I was caught in here, then I was sure my head would be served as punishment.

But the crystals, each one pulsing a rainbow of alternating colors called to me. I had to touch one. Had to see what they felt like.

I quickly removed my boots, not wanting to trample any of the underlying moss more that I already had, and tiptoed towards the center, placing a bare foot upon the stones.

Slowly my hand reached out and as my trembling fingers made contact with one of the smaller, glass-like, crystals a soothing sense of calm came over me. All the anger of the day, with Enner, dissipated in a flash. I felt connected, tranquil.

  My mind was quiet.

I’d never felt this relaxed in a long while.

I’m not sure how long I stayed like that, eventually palming the crystal, sitting peacefully at the base of the altar; it could’ve been hours for all I knew.

My eyes snapped open, the peaceful tranquility shattered, as I registered a familiar whooshing noise of an automatic door being opened and I scrambled quickly away to hide behind of the bigger crystals.

Fuck! I thought, as I kept my head bowed and attempted to make myself small, praying that whoever had entered the room would not notice me and leave.

  Three

No! No, don’t come any closer, I thought, as I saw a shadow elongate and stretch towards my hiding spot.

I held my breath and the unknown person moved a step closer. The rustle of their clothing filled the room. Hoping they wouldn’t spot the hatch panel that had been forced open… or my boots.

SHIT. My boots were off by the side, in the shadows, but with a passing glance they’d surely be recognised for what they were. And then I’d be found out; caught… and doomed.

  Then there was silence.

In my panic I’d lost track of where the intruder was. I couldn’t hear any breathing nor any more movement.

I waited. Not daring to look up or come out. Had they left? Or was it a trap? Numbers floated in the forefront of my mind as I started to count. I’d get to 100 then I’d let myself move.

  49…50…51…5—

“You!” a voice cried as my hiding spot was uncovered.

I shrieked and fell back, but still had my wits about me to keep a tight hold upon the small crystal I’d taken from the altar. It would do me no good to be found with that too. Stealing was an unforgivable offence anywhere in the galaxy.

“What are you doing in here?” the voice continued.

I looked up; the glowing lights illuminated his furious but handsome face. I would be able to tell those markings anywhere, I thought.

“You speak English?” I said surprised.

“Of, course. I ain’t some alien species from some backwater planet on the far side of galaxy. Te’Vanians and Terranians are distant cousins,” he replied a little defensively.

“Extremely distant,” I countered, “but you hardly said three words before.”

V’Aben shrugged as in answer. “Now tell me what you are doing. This is a sacred area. You are not authorized to be in here.”

Lying would get me nowhere, I thought, as I stood up and held my empty hand up to placate the security officer. “I’m sorry, Commander V’Aben. I was tracing the problem with the pipe, but it got so hot in there. I was about to pass out. I couldn’t breathe and I ended up in here. I didn’t mean any harm…” I said, the words spilling from my mouth in a rapid torrent.

V’Aben paused to consider my words, then tilted his head in suspicion. “What do you hold in your left hand?”

My eyes widened. “Just a tool…”

He forehead rippled again into a frown and I knew he didn’t believe me.

  “Show me,” he demanded.

I shook my head and stepped away from the big Te’Vanian.

“Show me!” he growled again, advancing toward me.

I tried to outpace him, but my butt hit the mossy wall and then he was lunging for me. There was no place to run, I was trapped as he took hold of my shoulders.

Using all my weight I tried to push against him, to break free. And somehow, using the leverage of the wall I surprised him. I sprang forth; he must’ve been off balance and we both tumbled to the floor.

While still holding onto the crystal, hiding it behind my back, we wrestled with me mostly trying to squirm away and V’Aben trying to pin me down.

His hand clamped upon my clothing again, ready to take me down.

I was panting, all my energy quickly dissipating. He was too big, too strong. I knew I wouldn’t be winning the fight, or getting away.

“Get off me!” I screeched, even though having his body pressed up against mine was causing all sorts of naughty thoughts to enter my head.

In the mayhem I managed to squeeze my hand into my pocket without him noticing, release the crystal and instead take hold of a small pocket wrench.

“Keep still,” he said as he finally got hold of my arms and pinned them away from my body on the ground, my cheeks pressing into the soft cushion of the mossy flooring. His legs straddled my waist, and with a quick pull he picked me up then pried open my hand.

“I told you…” I said as he claimed the small tool and inspected it.

“Whatever,” he said. I could tell he was furious, unhappy that he’d been wrong. “You have still broken several inter-galactic laws: breaking into a sacred room, disturbing the peace, assaulting a security officer—”

“Oh, come on! You pounced on me first, I was only defending myself.”

“Doesn’t matter I’m taking you to the brig. We’ll let the Captain decide what to do with you. Or even the ambassadors!” he said letting out a cruel laugh.

  “Pl
ease,” I said, “no one has to know. You know I didn’t mean any harm, be reasonable; I was just trying to do my job. Enner left me to fix it all by myself—”

“He left you?” V’Aben growled and shook his head. “I have a good mind to throw him in the brig with you.”

“No,” I pleaded. This was not happening, I thought, I’d just been trying to fix the bloody pipe and not die in the process. “No-one has to know. Let me keep working and I promise I won’t touch anything else.” I batted my eyelids, desperately hoping he’d let this little transgression slide. And for a moment I could tell he was considering it.

“Please…” I murmured again and stepped closer to him, pouting a little bit. The heat from his large body came off in waves, our little struggle together left me completely unsatisfied and I would’ve given anything to have his hands on me again.

He’s thinking about it, I thought, as his eyes travelled the length of my body, making no effort to hide the fact that he was checking me out.

His grips loosened a fraction and just when I thought he’d changed his mind, he leaned into me, his face getting closer and whispered, “No.”

  Four

V’Aben marched me down multiple lengths of winding corridors; his hand had a firm grip upon my arm. There’s no getting out of this, I thought. And in any case, where would I run to? It’s not like I could easily escape my fate.

He wouldn’t look at me anymore and even refrained from replying to any of his shipmates that we passed along the way. Definitely not an anomaly… they were all as big as him, and several shades of purple.

“Where are you taking me?” I asked, hoping to break the silence or at least slow him down.

I craned my neck to look up at him. V’Aben’s head was set forward, rigid and unmoving. He looked determined and I let out a sigh.

“Do you have a first name, Commander?”

“How old are you?” I kept asking questions; maybe one would get him to talk.

“Do you have a girlfriend?” I said, then tried to think of what the Te’Vanians might call their spouses added, “…a mate?”

His head snapped to the side and his gaze bore into mine. That got his attention! V’Aben quickly looked forward again and the pressure upon my arm was increased.

“Oh, so you do. Is she nice? How would you feel if it were your girlfriend that was in trouble… wouldn’t you want the person holding her to give her a second chance?”

“Do you ever shut up?” he growled.

“Not when I’m being led to my death!” I yelled back.

“Don’t be an idiot. You won’t be killed.”

“How do you know? Would you risk that with your girlfriend?”

  “I don’t have a mate…” he said softly.

“Oh,” I replied. So much for that tactic, I thought.

V’Aben pulled me along and turned a final corner. Then we stopped.

We’d reached our destination and all I wanted to do was kick and scream but I knew it wouldn’t do any good.

His free hand was in the process of rising, to wave in front of the reading panel to give us access, when I decided to try one last thing.

“Are you sure you want to do this? Think of all the paperwork, all the hassle.” V’Aben looked at me and I could tell he was not going to be won over. “If I gave it back will you let me go?”

He frowns, not understanding and lets his arm fall to his side. “Give what back?”

I tilted my head and give him the sweetest smile. “Let me go and I’ll tell you.”

His eyes widened, the sparkling blue expanding quickly. He yanked me closer so no passers-by could hear us. “You removed a Crynia from the altar?” he asked, his jaw tight and I began to think that my great idea had just gotten me into a whole world of trouble.

I squared up to him and reply, “Maybe.”

All of sudden he was pulling me in the other direction, away from the brig, and a life behind bars. The corridor was empty and V’Aben, with dark stormy eyes, almost threw me into an unoccupied room as soon as the doors slid open.

“Hey! There’s no need to be so rough,” I said as I almost stumbled into a table.

The doors behind V’Aben closed and he stalked towards me. His whole demeanor had changed and my knees started to involuntary tremble. I moved around the table, thankful that it could have held him off for a few more seconds. But he was fast, moved quickly around the table before I could even register his movement, and he snatched at my work clothes.

“Where did you put it? It has to be returned immediately.”

  “I—”

“Do you have any idea what you have done? This is far worse that sneaking into the sacred room… They’ll have both our heads for this.”

  “I didn’t sneak!”

“Tell me where it is,” he snapped, his face closer than it had ever been before. His lips barely a breath away.

“Only if you promise to let me go.”

“No… wait a minute. You still have it on you, don’t you?”

I bowed my head and broke eye contact.

“You do!” he yelled and started to pat me down. V’Aben explored the pockets on my arms, the pockets on my chest, finding nothing of interest. Then his strong fingers skirted down towards my waist and for a second I almost wanted him to find it.

Even though I knew he’s searching for the crystal I momentarily closed my eyes and enjoyed the sensation of him touching me.

My breaths came out like pants, and I licked my lips as his hands slipped down my thighs to the next available pocket.

I broke out of my spell and jerked my hips backward just as he was about to put his hand into the pocket.

He looked at me and smiled, knowing exactly where the hidden contraband was. But before he could explore further I smacked my lips against his, tasting for a second his sweet breath, catching him off-guard.

“What are you doing?” he gasped, pulling away.

“Distracting you,” I replied nonchalantly and then used the leverage I’d managed to get from scooting my butt up the table to bend my legs and slam them into him again. Pushing him away.

But I should’ve known it wouldn’t have worked as he was on me again in seconds.

His weight crashed into me and we tumbled to the floor, much like we had in the altar, but this time it was different. This time I wanted him to touch me. We were fighting but not really fighting, he was just trying to keep me still.

I managed to rip his glove off, though it didn’t really help me. But I thought if maybe I could bite him he’d let me go. It’d probably only make him angrier though, I thought.

“Stop it, you’re not making it easy on yourself,” he said, once again trying to claim my moving arms. “Just give it up… we have to put it back.”

“Fine!” I said. His body was pinning me but I retrieved the crystal from my pocket. I shoved my hand forward and placed the crystal into his palm. “Here! Have it! Just let me go!”

All of a sudden I couldn’t pull my hand away. At first, I believed that V’Aben was keeping a tight hold upon it, trying to not let the crystal slip between us, but then I saw the shock in his eyes.

“What have you done?” he muttered, his gaze traveling from my eyes down towards our bare clasped hands. It was like our hands had been magnetized and he couldn’t free himself either. A glowing light shone from within our grasp, our now translucent flesh illuminated from the inside out.

The wave of tranquility that I’d experienced earlier from holding the crystal shot through me, altering as it went and my heart started to beat fast and hard. The feeling was as if I’d taken too many stimulants; my skin was heating up and no matter how hard I tried, I could not tear my eyes away from V’Aben’s.

It seemed like he was experiencing the same. His large chest rose and fell violently, pressing against mine, and gusts of his sweet breath escaped his parted lips onto my face.

The pinkish glow pulsed once, then again, getting faster and faster till af
ter a few seconds it just stopped and our hands returned to their normal colors - mine a peachy cream and his a dusky lilac.

“You shouldn’t have done that,” he said in an almost whimper.

“Done what?” I said, gasping in shock as he pulled me closer towards him.

His head dipped getting closer with each breath and the thought of him kissing me flashed in my mind for a second. To taste him again, to feel his tongue in my mouth… I wanted it so bad. More than ever.

Almost at the same time as the thought, his lips claimed mine, taking my breath away. He pressed them hard up against my soft flesh, eager, wanting. I had a mind to pull back but knew in that moment there was nothing I craved more. With every single molecule in my body I needed him.

I could hardly understand it. Before, there was no doubt that I was attracted to him, but this, this was something completely different. But it didn’t matter; all that mattered were his lips, and his hands on me. His rough tongue parting my lips, exploring and entering my mouth as I moaned into his.

There would come a time when I would have to think about my actions, but the time wasn’t now. Everything else faded into the background. The work order, the pipe, Enner, all but forgotten. A distant memory.

Instead my body, my very flesh, screamed out to be touched by V’Aben.

His free hand travelled up and down my waist, then skirted around to my back, yanking me close as if he were trying to fuse our bodies together. And heavens above, if I didn’t want that too.

I wrapped my leg around him, bringing my sex close, his thigh instinctively pressing against it, rubbing, grinding, making me want to strip naked and have him touch me all over.

It was as if he read my mind because he started to pull at my clothing, yanking the zipper of my boiler suit down to reveal a flimsy t-shirt beneath.

Our kiss continued, deep and unyielding, as V’Aben slipped a hand in through the gap he’d made and under my t-shirt.

His thick finger, leaving sparking trails of delight behind them, as he traced them up towards my breasts.

I moaned as his thumb found my hard nub and teased it, roughly pulling and rolling it. Fuck, I’d not been touched like this in months… and even then, it never felt as good as this.
