As I came closer, Noah stopped wrestling with the ushers and he smiled. There was nothing but triumph all over his face. I took a deep breath, and then, with as loud a voice as I could muster, I said, “I don’t love you! I don’t want you! I don’t want to be married to you.” I pointed to Trent. “This is the man I love, because he loves me. He always has, and he always will. Just get out of my life.”
My words stunned Noah, but I didn’t care. A second later I turned around and ran into Trent’s waiting arms.
“Oh, God,” he breathed into my ear.
“I love you,” I said over and over and over and over.
It was as if it was just the two of us, but my father’s voice brought us back to reality. “Get him out of here,” he said.
I didn’t dare turn to look, but from the applause, I imagined that Noah was being dragged away. I knew I had some explaining to do to Trent once this ceremony was over, but when I looked into his eyes, Trent told me without words that it was okay. Whatever it was, we were going to walk this road together.
Then my father said, “Does anyone want to see a wedding today?”
Again, the crowd cheered, and my father went through with our vows. Just minutes after Noah tried to destroy my life, I became Mrs. Trent Hamilton. And my heart sang!
After we kissed, we turned to the crowd, who were standing on their feet, applauding our first introduction as man and wife.
To the left, I heard Devin say, “Nothing but drama!”
I laughed. He had some nerve, but he was right. My life had been nothing but drama right up to a few minutes ago. But now there was going to be a new song in my life.
I looked up at my husband as we hurried down the aisle, and I knew that I’d never have a love greater than his. Except for the Lord, no one would love me more.
And, really, isn’t that all any girl ever wanted?
