  “Kaylee—”

“Good night, Blaze.” She unlocked the inner door and slammed it before he could say another word.

Well…that had been nice while it had lasted. He shook his head as he walked back to his car. Fuck it. Who needed a high maintenance chick anyway?

  Chapter Eleven

KAYLEE WAS UPSET that the evening had gone from the perfect date to the worst in a matter of seconds…and it had been all her fault.

She wasn’t sure why she’d reacted so strongly to what Blaze had said, and she couldn’t sleep thinking about it. Boy, she’d messed it up—and good.

She knew a good part of her reaction was thanks to her upbringing. A good Christian girl shouldn’t have sex before marriage and especially the kind she’d engaged in. The whole setup was noncommittal and laid back. Blaze was a guy she’d admired and lusted after for some time, but he wasn’t a man she was deeply in love with. Being in a committed relationship would likely be the only way she could get away with having sex with a guy and have it be okay with the church powers that be.

She almost laughed. She would never discuss her sex life (or even lack thereof) with her family or anyone from her church.

The problem, though, was that her thinking had been altered by her upbringing, and the guilt weighed on her like chainmail. She carried it with her everywhere, a cape draped over her shoulders. She was a young, vibrant girl and should have been having the time of her life…especially with a guy like Blaze, whether or not they were considering something permanent.

But no. Her past haunted her like a ghost, and her reactions and words sounded like the little Christian girl she’d been brought up to be.

She didn’t think that Blaze found her slutty, and even if he did, why would she care?

She knew why. Honestly, she cared because she liked him…a lot more than she would have expected.

So, by morning, she decided she couldn’t let it end—not like that anyway. In her head, she could still see the surprised look on his face when she’d told him good night. And she suspected he was trying to tell her, when she slammed the door in his face¸ that he didn’t think she was slutty at all.

  She needed to apologize.

She found her phone and started rifling through her contacts to find his number.

She hesitated, though. Maybe she should tell him how she felt in person…and if she wanted to do that, she needed to shower first. And do her hair. And put on makeup.

By the time she was done making herself look presentable, it was close to eleven. She sat on the edge of her bed and dialed his number. Oh, please answer. She didn’t know that she’d be able to find the courage to muddle through leaving a message. It wasn’t long, though, before he picked up. “Hey, Kaylee.”

She felt a little relief. He didn’t sound upset or angry. “Um…I just wanted to apologize about last night. I had a good time. I think I took what you said the wrong way.”

“What I said? Don’t you mean what you said? I was just trying to explain—”

“Yeah. Yeah. I, uh…I overreacted.” He was quiet. She hated that because she couldn’t see what he was thinking. It made her wonder if he was truly forgiving her or just giving her lip service. “Could we maybe talk in person?”

  “Yeah, sure.”

She remembered Wednesday morning he’d wanted coffee and she’d blown him off. Maybe he’d go for it now. “Wanna meet for coffee?”

  “When and where?”

  * * *

The only reason Kaylee had agreed to meet at the coffee shop where Rachel worked was because Blaze’s sister wasn’t working today. Her friend was, Kaylee hoped, enjoying a good time with the guy she’d gone to Boulder to see. Kaylee imagined Rachel would enjoy her date better than her failed attempt at OM earlier in the week.

Meanwhile, Kaylee was going to try to patch up the misunderstanding she’d had with her roommate’s brother. She had to admit to herself that she liked Blaze more than she would have expected.

She met him in the parking lot of the coffee shop. It was a cute little place, and it was in walking distance of her house. She had thought she would have to wait for him, but he must have lived close by as well. Blaze looked unbelievably handsome in the white long-sleeved shirt he wore. It clung to his frame, accentuating the musculature underneath. Why hadn’t she paid closer attention when he’d had his clothes off around her? She could remember…but just barely.

He looked a little on the sad side but smiled when he saw her. Then she felt really bad. She hadn’t meant to hurt him. No, but in a way, she’d been selfish, because she hadn’t thought past her own self. She hadn’t been considering what he was thinking and feeling, and now she felt guilty about it. But that’s why they were there now—so she could apologize.

They stood in line and bought their coffees. She offered to pay for his and he said, “No way,” and then offered to pay for hers. She laughed and repeated him, even lowering her voice so it was clear she was imitating him, and he chuckled along with her.

Soon, though, they were sitting down and she took a sip of her coffee. The silence was stiff, and she knew she needed to talk now or she’d avoid saying what she needed to say. “Blaze.” He looked up from his cup. His dark eyes were beautiful. She could have gotten lost in them forever. Not yet, though. She needed to spit it out. “I’m really sorry about last night. I, uh…I don’t have a lot of experience with guys…you know, in that way, and so…I’m a little sensitive about—”

“It’s okay, Kaylee.” She was relieved that he was stopping her. Not only was she having a hard time spitting the words out, she’d said mostly what she needed to say. He touched the bottom of her chin with his finger. “Do you like me or not? That’s all I need to know.”

She could feel her cheeks growing warmer, because she thought it was apparent. But the rest of her body started heating up too, wondering if he was asking because he felt the same way. She couldn’t make her tongue move, so she simply nodded her head, searching his eyes for confirmation that she wasn’t the only one. He moved his head closer to hers and she felt her eyelids flutter until they closed as his lips touched hers.

Wow. What a kiss. Warm, soft, and tender, full of promise. The kiss might have been sweet, but it aroused her just the same. She couldn’t help herself. Once their lips parted and he opened his eyes, she grabbed onto his collar and mashed her lips back into his. She could have kissed him all day long there, tasting the hint of mocha on his lips.

Holy shit. Her panties grew damp…and fast. She’d heard about that from other women and had laughed at the concept before. She’d never had a guy’s kiss do that to her—make her tummy knot up while her feminine parts revved themselves up into an excited state. Unbelievable and exciting.

When the next kiss ended, she felt breathless. She noticed his hand on her neck. It felt warm and strong, and she wanted it all over her body, not just her neck. Man, oh, man, having that orgasm—actually, those orgasms—had changed her. She imagined she was turning into a nymphomaniac, that now she’d never get enough.

Well, not of this guy anyway. She wanted him—badly.

She looked at him. God, his eyes were dark as they drank her in, and that look made her even more excited. “You have plans today?”

Aside from studying, which could clearly wait? “Not really.”

“Wanna come over to my place for a while?” She just nodded her head rapidly. He grinned. “Let’s go.” She grabbed her coffee and stood, relishing his hand wrapping around hers, leading her outside. “Your car here?”

  “No, I walked here.”

He nodded. “Then I guess you’re coming with me.” They walked to his car and got in. In less than ten minutes, they were at his apartment building. She felt herself growing more eager and realized maybe she shouldn’t get her hopes up. He invited her over to his place, but he’d never told her his intentions. Just because she was excited and hoped to feel good all over again didn’t mean that was what was on his mind.
r />   She had just opened the door to her side of the car when he got there and held out his hand, helping her out. They walked past a big garbage bin and he tossed his paper cup over the side and in. She still had half her cup, but he’d had a small. Hers was large.

When they got to the second floor, they walked a few doors down until he paused in front of one, inserting a key into the lock. Once inside, he said, “My roommate’s gone all afternoon. Work.”

She hoped he was telling her that for the reason she wanted him to. But they walked inside and he tossed his keys on the coffee table. So his apartment wasn’t the cleanest—it could use a good dusting—but it wasn’t filthy either. She was kind of impressed that guys lived here, and he hadn’t even been expecting her. If it had been hours before they’d met, she would have wondered if he’d cleaned first, but it wasn’t.

Blaze must have caught her looking around. “Want a tour?”

She couldn’t help but giggle. “A tour? Why? Is this place huger than it looks?”

He got close to her and his face turned serious. “Actually…” He seemed to be at a loss for words, but he took her cup and set it on the coffee table next to his keys and then cupped her cheeks in his hands, pulling her to him for a kiss. Her eyes closed as his lips took her breath away.

When the kiss ended, she opened her eyes. She couldn’t believe she was with Blaze Donahue…still couldn’t believe it. He was gorgeous, amazing, and he was kissing her of all people. He asked a question but she didn’t hear it; she’d been too busy admiring him. “Hmm?” She imagined she had a dreamy and possibly stupid look on her face.

  “Wanna shower together?”

Oh. She didn’t give a crap that she’d already showered just a couple of hours before. The idea of being in a shower with this guy was more appealing than she ever would have thought. She could feel her panties get wet again as she nodded. “Yeah, sure.”

He grinned and took one of her hands in his to lead her down the little hall in his apartment toward the tiny bathroom. They were barely inside when he kissed her again. She couldn’t loosen her grip from his clingy shirt. She felt almost desperate, panicked, and yet fully alive. She wanted to experience him again and again, but part of her still felt a little shy and naïve. The way she’d had sex in the past had been as a recipient, not as a giver, and she knew there had to be more to it than that, but she wasn’t sure how or where to start. All she knew was that this incredible guy had awakened something inside her, something that wanted to explore and continue to be fulfilled beyond all measure.

But whatever had been stirred inside her was guiding her movements, and she pulled at that shirt that had hinted at what was underneath. A grin turned up his mouth on one side and he helped her pull it up over his head. His lips were back on hers as he threw the shirt to the floor.

Somehow, that made her feel empowered. She allowed her fingers to touch his chest and explore the muscles there that he’d worked on. His kiss felt deeper then, as though he appreciated her attention, and he wound his fingers through her hair. She’d never felt so desirous before, and she couldn’t wait for him to touch her again. When the kiss ended, he said, “Let me turn the shower on.” He turned around and started the water, holding his hand under the stream to check the temperature.

She bent down and pulled her boots and socks off, but when she stood and saw him looking at her, lust in his eyes, she froze. Having him look at her that way made her feel self-conscious. “Don’t let me stop you.” She swallowed. He didn’t understand. She wasn’t a sex kitten. She felt awkward in her body, hadn’t fully embraced her sexuality yet, and this was hard for her. “Would this help?” He bent over and pulled his sneakers off and then stood and began unbuttoning and unzipping his jeans.

She was still frozen, but this time for a different reason. She couldn’t take her eyes off him. Her breathing was shallow, anticipating what was to come. She bit her bottom lip and brought her fingers to the button of her jeans too, but she was moving slowly. He was down to his underwear then and looked at her, grinning. “Would you like my help with that?”

Kaylee couldn’t help but smile back. Then she nodded. It would be less uncomfortable if he was helping her. He closed the gap and grabbed her zipper, pulling it down as his mouth assaulted hers. Hearing the water pour out of the tub faucet distracted her. She could hear her dad’s voice in her ears telling her to stop wasting water, and that too reminded her of exactly what she was doing, and she knew her father would not approve. She let herself be drowned by Blaze’s kiss, because she knew he was what she wanted. Her future was not with her parents—it was with herself, and she had to figure out who that was. She knew Blaze was helping her discover that.

Her jeans were off in no time and she grew brave, grabbing the bottom of her shirt to pull it over her head. Blaze grabbed her ass and pulled her close as she threw the shirt to the floor and he consumed her in another kiss. Then he moved his lips to her neck and she thought she was going to turn into a puddle. She reached behind her back to unsnap her bra. She was as ready as she was going to be.

He kissed down her front as she finished unhooking the bra, and he tugged on her panties to get them down her legs. His lips continued moving down her torso as he bent at the knees. She could feel the wetness between her legs now, the panties no longer able to absorb it, and it was growing worse the more he touched her. She heard a loud sigh spill out of her mouth. She wanted to be with him again more than she thought she’d ever wanted anything. So when he stood up and looked in her eyes, she leaned into him to touch his lips with hers. He kissed her back and it was slow, probing, and she felt him pulling his underwear down at the same time.

When the kiss ended, he broke away, but his smoldering stare enveloped her, made her feel more like a woman than ever before. He turned around and moved the knob so the shower turned on. He pulled the curtain forward to keep the warm water from spraying on the floor, but he extended his arm toward Kaylee and said, “Ladies first.”

He held her hand as she stepped into the tub and then followed suit. He got close to her and then placed his hands on her lower back, pulling her close. The water sprayed her right where his hands were, and she wondered if she wanted to get her hair wet, but he was pushing against her. She didn’t have much of a choice. In seconds, they were both under the spray, water pouring down their faces, her hair clinging to her head. She found it exciting, though, that water was streaming around and in their mouths while they were kissing. She had no explanation for why she thought it was hot. She could feel his cock pressing into her belly, just above her mound, and it made her tingle.

He pulled away and grabbed a bar of soap. She allowed her eyes to look over his beautiful body as she began to feel a little bolder. Her eyes stopped at that cock, though, because it was fascinating. It was long and stiff and stood at attention. She could barely hear his voice when he said, “You can touch me there.”

Her eyes snapped back to his. He wasn’t smiling; no, he was desirous, and she knew he’d like it if she did his bidding. Well, no, it was more than that. She did want to touch him. She didn’t know that she’d ever touched a man’s penis before. If she had, it hadn’t been anything spectacular. No, that wasn’t true. She remembered she did try giving her last boyfriend a blowjob. She hadn’t failed miserably, but it hadn’t gone very well. He’d said he enjoyed it, but she had her doubts, because he’d wound up slamming her against the wall and fucking the shit out of her. It had been frustrated fucking, and it hadn’t been enjoyable for her at all.

Blaze, though…she wanted to try it again with him. Not necessarily today, but she wanted to see if she could do it well this time, and she gathered from their previous times together that he might have the patience needed to help her through it. For now, though, he’d invited her to touch him, caress him, stroke his length, and she was going to do just that.

She thought she might have a small smile on her face as she took the bar of soap from him and twirled it in her hands for
a few seconds before handing it back to him. Then she took his cock in her right hand, massaging it down its length, following with her left. Wow. It was hard. She’d known it would be, but she hadn’t known exactly what to expect. When she looked back up at him, his eyes were closed, but he was feeling for the recess in the wall so he could place the soap back in its dish. As he got closer to her, his hands touched her breasts, the soap suds allowing them to glide against her flesh. He pulled his fingers down the swell, meeting in the middle at her nipples, where he teased them into hard peaks. She couldn’t help but gasp, and her hands clenched around his cock.

She forced her mouth back on his and felt relief when he responded, his tongue tickling her mouth. He let out a moan as she stroked him more firmly and he said, “Maybe we need to move this party to my bedroom.”

Biting her bottom lip again, she smiled and nodded her head. She didn’t trust herself with words. Letting go of him, she moved to the side so he could shut the water off. Once out, he grabbed a folded blue towel off the shelf and handed to her while he grabbed a matching one off the rack. She patted her hair and then ran the towel down her body. She was chilly, and his apartment wasn’t as warm as she would have liked, but she suspected he’d warm her up soon enough. She wrapped the towel around herself and his was around his waist when he took her hand and said, “Come on.”

They left the bathroom, a blast of cool air chilling Kaylee again, and then Blaze opened the door to one of the other rooms in the tiny hallway. It was bright inside and she noticed his room looked more lived in than the parts of the apartment she’d already seen. In here, there was more clutter—books piled on the desk along with papers, notebooks, and other student items, clothes piled in a chair, things like that, but the bed was mostly made and there wasn’t anything on the floor. She wasn’t horrified.

She liked the sun streaming through the window. It made his room feel warm and inviting, even though she was shivering. “You’re cold,” he said. “Come here. I’ll warm you up.” He walked to the bed and pulled the covers back. She lay down and he took off his towel and got next to her, pulling the blankets up to her neck and holding her close, rubbing her arm. She almost laughed because her teeth were chattering, but he did a great job of making her feel warm in just a few seconds.
