Broken Kingdom

They looked intently into each others’ eyes for a moment, and I was certain a silent communication had occurred. The next second, Avra’s lips gently closed over hers, kissing her as though his existence depended on it. My eyes shifted to Nyx, who was once again wiping tears from his eyes, being the only one that understood their exchange. Oh, who was I kidding, even Kyr was crying.
“What did they say?” We both asked Nyx.
He turned to us and slowly shrugged. “He asked her to wake up for him, and they called each other my eternal love.”
Damn it. Here came the tears again.
My gaze returned to Father, as he carried Mother in his arms. He placed another soft kiss on her lips, turning around, and walked away from us in silence, disappearing with her into the temple.
Kyr cleared his throat and turned to stand in front of us imposingly, very much like the king he now was. “I have a feeling each of us has endured different hardships since we last saw each other, and we will talk about what we have uncovered, as well as what it means for our future, but now, in this moment, I need you. I must ask you, as my brothers, to stand beside me and lend me your strength, for my quest has barely just begun.”
Nyx and I exchanged a glance, intrigued and confused. “Of course, Kyr. Always,” I vowed.
Nyx nodded, agreeing as his gaze returned to Kyr. “But why?” he questioned.
Kyr let out a heavy breath and straightened before us, resolve filling his eyes. “I have decided to wage war against the Dark King. I will bring forth the kingdom our people deserve. I shall honor our grandparents, and rule this realm without hatred once more. I hope you are ready, brothers, because this won’t be easy, and we may very well die in this endeavor. Nevertheless, I will bring peace to our people once and for all, even if it is the last thing I ever do.”
His vow resounded around the temple while power exuded from him, seeping through us, just as Avra’s energy wave had a moment before. The walls trembled around us in response. Kyr stepped closer.
“I will build the Everlasting Kingdom, even if I have to do it upon Laeroth’s corpse.”
To be continued…
