“Just need a moment with you here first.” I kissed her again and held her close. I loved her so much, it hurt. “You ready to make your first appearance at the red carpet?”

“No, but with you by my side, I will be okay, I think.” She shrugged.

“You will be, I will be right beside you always.”

“Then let’s go.” She stepped out of my hold and took my hand in hers.

“It’s time,” Anna said behind me. I looked at her and smiled. It was time to do something that would decide my future. The night had been perfect, but I hoped it would be even more perfect in about fifteen minutes.

The red carpet walk went as I hoped. Evie was smiling and holding on to me and we made our way inside without her being scared off like that time in front of the restaurant.

“I know, just give me a second.” My brothers came over and stood beside me.

“You can do this,” Zane said.

  “She loves you,” Caleb added.

“I know, let’s do this.” I clapped my hands together. They were sweaty. I was nervous about what was about to happen. Cole walked out on stage first and we all followed him. He took the mike and smiled.

“Good evening, everyone. We hope you have enjoyed the food and that you all are having a great time… We are really happy to see so many of you here tonight and appreciate all of the money you have donated tonight.” He handed the mike over to Caleb.

“Tonight, we are here to support Happy Childhood, and for the first time we have all our family with us to one of these events.” He handed the mike over to Zane, who had a big smile on his face. He knew that soon Evie’s world would be turned upside down, mine too.

“And tonight, we have three new members of our family with us. I think you all know who I mean, but in case you don’t, I would like to introduce you to my girlfriend, Anna.” He held his hand out and Anna walked out on stage and stood beside him. “And then there is my beautiful niece, Alana, and her mom, Evie. Join us.” He smiled down to Evie, who shook her head. She was embarrassed about the attention, but she wouldn’t get off that easily.

I walked down from the stage and over to the table.

“Come on, Sunshine.” I held my hand out for her to take.

“Why?” she whispered, but she put her hand in mine and stood up. Alana was already up on the stage; Caleb had her in his arms.

  “Just come.”

She walked behind me and followed me up on stage. I stopped beside Caleb and looked at her. “Just stand here, okay?” She nodded, and I walked over to Zane to grab the mike.

This is it, I can do this. I took a deep breath before turning around and walking over to stand beside Evie. She was shaking, not much, but I could see it when I got close to her again. I kissed her on the cheek before looking out on all the people in the room. My eyes connected with my dad’s and he nodded.

“I want you all to meet my daughter, Alana… She and her mom have come rushing back into my life this summer… Long story short, Evie got pregnant just before me and the rest of the band got our first record deal three years ago… We have been together always, and why she left, I won’t tell you tonight—that story is for another time. What matters is that my two girls are here with me and my family tonight…” I took a deep breath before handing the mike to Cole, and then I took Evie’s hands in mine and looked her deep in her eyes.

“I think I fell in love with you the very first time we met. Back then I didn’t know what love was. I do now, and I did when you left. My heart is whole again. After you left, it was broken, but you being back here has made me whole again…and Alana is just another sign of our love. Sunshine, I want you in my life, not just today, tomorrow, or next week. I want you in my life forever. I want us to have a family, more children, and when the time comes we will hopefully be grandparents too. But what matters is that you and I are one. Always.” Evie had tears running down her face and I brushed them away. Then I went down on one knee and looked at her, taking the small black box, which had been burning in my pocket all night, and opening it. “I want us to be one, Sunshine. Make me the happiest man alive and marry me?”

“Yes,” she rasped, the tears still running down her face. “Of course I will marry you.” I put the ring on her finger before standing up and then I took her in my arms and kissed her.

“I love you,” I whispered when I broke the kiss.

  “Love you more.” She smiled.

“Mommy,” Alana said beside us, and held her arms out to Evie. She took Alana in her arms and hugged her close. I stood beside them and looked down at my family—my mom and sisters were crying. I smiled to my mom when she looked up at me and she smiled back at me.

“Give a hand to the happy couple,” Cole said. Then everyone in the room stood up and a big applause sounded in the room. “What do you say we play some music for you?” Cole asked before handing the mike over to Caleb.

I walked Evie over to stand beside Anna on the side, before taking the stage with my band, my brothers. Everything was perfect now. I was doing what I loved the most for a living and I had the most amazing daughter.

And I had the love of my live back. We still had some things to figure out, but still, she agreed to marry me. And that just made me the happiest man alive. I looked over at Evie. She smiled at me and mouthed I love you.

I had her and our daughter in my life, what else could I possibly want?

  Epilogue:

  Evie – ten months later

“You ready?” Dax asked. He was standing by the door with Alana on his arm. It was my wedding day. I was marrying the love of my life, Liam.

The guys were almost finished with their next album and would be going back on tour soon. The last had have been full of special moments. We went on tour last year just after Liam proposed to me. And Alana loved it. She loved being with me backstage when her dad and uncles were on stage. At the same time, Anna and I had grown very close. She was always supportive and tried to help every time I had some doubt about this life with Liam and how it affected Alana.

When the tour was over, we had a great vacation just the three of us, away from home, responsibilities, and most of all, away from the press. For some reason we were able to avoid the press, most of all because we were on a private island where Logan, the band’s manager, had a house we rented. Being with Alana and Liam alone for three weeks was amazing. After our vacation, the guys worked on finishing the recording studio on the ranch. They were done with it just before Christmas. And since then they had been working on their new album.

I’d been home with Alana, helping around where it was needed. Most of all I’d just been a stay-at-home mom. And I loved it. Liam and I had talked a lot about what I wanted to do. Did I want to go back to school and get an education? At some point I might. But for now, I enjoyed being at home, raising our daughter. Liam told me not to worry about getting a job, and if I wanted to stay at home, then that’s what I should be doing. It gave us all freedom that I didn’t have a job, because I could go with Liam when he had to travel or go back on tour. That way he and Alana didn’t have to be away from each other, which would devastate them both.

“I am.” I smiled back at him. He was walking me down the aisle today. I talked to Liam about it and if he thought it would be okay for me to ask Dax to do that. Dax had been helping me a lot the last year, and he had kept his promise to keep Alana safe. I saw him as the uncle I could go to about everything, and he would do anything in his power to help me. And the look on his face when I asked him to walk me down the aisle was priceless. He looked so surprised, like he hadn’t heard me correctly, and I had to confirm to him more than once that I wanted him to that. I also asked Harlow if it was okay with her—Dax was, after all, her dad. She told me that of course it was okay with her, she was just happy that I trusted her father to do the honors.

“You look beautiful, Evie.” He smiled at m
e. “What do you say, girl, doesn’t your mamma look amazing?” Dax asked Alana.

“Mommy is pretty. Me pretty too, right?” Alana asked him with a big smile on her face. She was wearing a white princess dress, with a pink belt. Her dress was a mini version of mine. My dress was designed by a designer, so it was one of a kind. I wanted that more than anything, and when I told Liam I wanted to spend money on a designer to get a dress designed for only me, he told me to do it. It didn’t matter the cost, he just wanted me to have the dress of my dreams. The designer made my dress, Alana’s dress, and my bridesmaids’ dresses. The bridesmaids’ dresses looked a lot like Alana’s, the only difference was that they were light pink with a white belt.

“You look so pretty, baby girl. You ready to get out there?” I walked over to her and Dax and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

“Yes, Gia waiting for me,” she said. Alana was walking down the aisle with my bridesmaids. Amy was my maid of honor, then there were Anna, Gia, and Harlow. Alana was walking beside Gia.

“Let’s go, then.” Dax smiled at me before opening the door. “We don’t want him to think you ran away.”

“That would never happen.” I smiled. We were getting married on the ranch, in Brent and Coleen’s backyard, which Coleen had transformed into the most beautiful scene I’d ever seen. There were flowers everywhere, mostly pink and white, which was the whole color theme for our big day.

When we got out of the house, the girls were waiting on me all with big smiles on their faces.

“You look amazing, my brother is going to cry when he sees you,” Amy said when she hugged me.

“Thank you,” I whispered back to her. I hoped that Liam wouldn’t cry, but in reality, I knew we both would be so emotional that tears would be unavoidable. And what was a wedding without tears, anyway? Moments later, I heard the music playing. It was go time.

Amy was right about Liam crying. The moment our eyes met, we both had tears in them. Walking down the aisle with Dax, I only had eyes for the man I was about to marry. When we reached Liam, he walked over and took my hand and gave me a small kiss on my cheek.

“You look absolutely stunning, Sunshine,” he whispered before turning around to look at the minister.

The ceremony went on so fast that I almost forgot to enjoy it. The moment the minister pronounced us husband and wife, I looked at Liam and smiled.

“I love you,” I said just before he kissed me. Our first kiss as husband and wife.

“I love you, Sunshine,” he said before he looked over at Alana. “Come here, baby girl.” She ran over to him and he lifted her up in his arms before the three of us walked through the cheers from our friends and family.

We walked into the house to have a moment to ourselves. We were a family, the three of us, officially bound together.

“I can’t believe we are married,” I said to Liam with a big smile on my face. I was married to the love of my life, to my soulmate. I rested my head against his chest while he still had Alana in his arms.

“Me neither. I love you so much,” he said, kissing me on the top of my head.

“Me loves mommy too,” Alana said, making both Liam and I laugh.

“I love you too, baby girl. You did so good today,” I said to her.

“Me love daddy,” she said, looking up at Liam.

“I love you too, baby. You and your mommy. I love you both so much.”

  This was our perfect moment.

But I still had one little surprise to tell him. But that would have to wait until we were alone tonight at the hotel in Colorado Springs. Liam had booked us a hotel room for the night. I told him our house would be fine, but he wouldn’t hear any of it. He just told me that he wanted us away from everyone. We had agreed to not go on a honeymoon right away. We would do that when the band was finished with the album and just before they went back on tour. And our honeymoon would be the first time Alana would be away from us for more than one night. She would be with Zane, Anna, Cole, Amy, Caleb, and Gia in Disneyworld. They would be there the two weeks Liam and I would be in Europe. I knew she would be fine, but I would miss her. But at the same time, I wanted our honeymoon to just be about us. So this was the solution. Alana would have a lot of fun with her aunts and uncles, and Liam and I would have some one-on-one time.

“I have something to tell you.” I looked at Liam. We were lying in bed at the hotel, after the most amazing day ever. We had celebrated our wedding with all the people we loved, our friends and family. I was tired, and just wanted to sleep, but after we just had made love I wanted to tell him my secret. I just hoped he would be as excited about it as I was.

“Are you okay?” Liam looked at me, worried. We were facing each other, and Liam took my hand in his.

“Of course. This has been one of the best days of my life.” I smiled at him before taking a deep breath. “I’m just so happy that we’re finally a family, but think that something is missing.”

“What? You are making me nervous, Sunshine.”

“We have talked about more kids, and that might just come sooner than we thought.” I smiled at him, waiting for him to understand what I was saying.

“Are you pregnant?” I nodded. “You’re not kidding, right?”

“No, I’m pregnant. I found out the other day. I’ve been so tired and then I took a test.” I smiled.

“You just made me even happier than I was before, Sunshine!” He pulled me close and kissed me. “We are having another baby?”

“We are. Are you sure you are happy about this? I know you guys have the tour in the fall, and I might not have the energy to go with you. At least not in the end.”

“I love you, Sunshine, and I’m so happy that I don’t know how to describe it to you. I want this with you. Like you said, we talked about this, and maybe it isn’t the perfect time.” He sat up on the bed and pulled me over into his lap. I sat with my side to his chest and rested my head on his shoulder. He held me close and pulled the sheet around us. “But we will make this work. Anna and Logan’s team haven’t finished the tour schedule yet, so we can make some changes and maybe start sooner and then have a longer break in the middle. Don’t worry about it. I want to be there this time, all the way. It’s you and me together.”

“Okay. I think I’m about two months pregnant. But we will know for sure when I go to the doctor. I booked us a time Monday morning.”

“Then we will see what the doctor says and then we talk to Anna, okay?” I nodded in agreement. “Other than being tired, is there anything else bothering you?”

“No, at least not yet. I hope this will be an easier pregnancy than the last.” I shrugged.

“This time you will have me by your side no matter what. I hope that will help you, and we have people around us who will be more than happy to help in any way they can,” he said before kissing me. “I love you, Alana, and our peanut more than you will ever know, Sunshine. It’s us together always. Just like it says right here.” He pointed at his new tattoo and his chest. He had that made a week before our wedding.

It was a family tree, with mine and his initials in the roots. Alana’s full name was in one of the branches, and there were more branches without any writing in them. Then in the trunk of the tree there was a quote we wrote together, describing our journey and love for each other.

  We were teens together

  We are adults together

  We have kids together

  We will grow old together

We are soulmates in love together
